  • Hill Repeats and Pilsner Repeats

Some ran, Some ate, Some drank, Some ran and ate and drank.

The Route: Palani Drive parking lot to Granite Ave south to Cary Street. Crossover to Tempsford/Kennondale. Complete as many hill repeats as you like. Mosey back to Palani Drive.

Apologies to Upchuck. He didn’t realize we were meeting behind the restaurant and didn’t see us when we took off. He ran his own route, though. Chum Bucket hit the trails and then met us for HDHH. He is training for a 50k with Johnsonville that will happen at the end of April. EF Hutton, Greenbow and his new 2.0 joined us for HDHH. Good times!

We may try to do this again in May and June and July….stay tuned! Good BRR training.

    Enjoyed it fellas!

Saab Q tomorrow at 45MOM and DTH Q at the new AO The Forge tomorrow.

Back to the flag for COT, Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Continued prayers for the Nicolette family and the community at South Anna Middle School. Tragic.
    • THE FORGE new AO begins tomorrow. DTH has the Q. Form up in the parking lot at the South end of Huguenot High School.

    NMS:

YHC arrived with the thought of maybe breaking out the 20-minute timed Nicole workout that Rosie introduced 3 years and 1 month ago at YHC’s first workout, but with 4 PAX members, an audible was called for some good old fashioned partner work. As promised yesterday, SOT was Burpee free this morning. Enough of those from Tobit yesterday.

Great work guys. It was great partnering with each of you this morning.

Doozy – have a great trip to Luray. Hope you find some good Geo-Cache along the way.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Aunt Bunny is Coming to Get Me.

A lucky 13 jumped on stage and grabbed the mike to celebrate Eddie Murphy’s 58th birthday. Here’s, more or less, how the street performers, mimes, and hippies in Times Square would tell the tale.

Mosey to the Small Stage for COP

    Circle up.
    SSH’s x58
Split into two teams by counting 1-2-1-2-1-2…then, forget which team you are on. Do over. Each team member takes a turn to recount a moment, skit, or scene from Eddie Murphy’s career. PAX judges. If PAX approves, choose an exercise. If PAX (or Q) disapproves, 5 burpees for everyone.

    Exercises were (roughly), all x10:
    DQs
    Mariah Carey’s (xEach leg)
    Chuck Norris Merkins
    APDs
    Hitchhikers
    Some other stuff
    And a bunch of burpees

Mosey to side of the Carillon for Trading Places:
“I can see…and I have legs!” Both good qualities when running in the dark, so let’s Touch a Tree…partner up…
    10 and 8…monkey humpers
    6 and 4…Lt. Dans
    2 fire hydrants

Mosey to the Amphitheatre for Beverly Hills Cop
Rosewood (Beverly Hills Cop) was always pulling out a bigger and bigger weapon, so let’s work on our guns.
5 incline merkins on each step

Staying in the Amphitheatre for Shrek
Partner up…partner 1 runs the Amphitheatre steps while partner 2 does Donkey Kicks (with some PAX adding Donkey noises)

Mosey Over the Stone Wall to the Grassy Knoll for The Nutty Professor
Time for the Klumps to work the abs…
    Hello Dolly x30
    Flutter Kicks x30
    Reverse crunches x30
Q calls time, then uncalls time
    LBCs x30

    BTTF

Number-a-ma, Name-a-ram-a, Bodo’s volunteered (was volun-told) to take us out (well done).

    Announcements:

Tonight: 5:30 p.m. Roller Coaster starting at Palani Drive (on Libbie across from Joe’s Market), followed by HumpDay Happy Hour (HDHH) at 6:15 p.m. House Party at TYAs after HDHH early until ??? Come early, stay late, and sign up for Uber.

Tomorrow: Shake off the HDHH with a new AO…The Forge at Huguenot High School. DTH has the Q. The World’s Largest Shovel Flag is scheduled to make an appearance along with the Ghost Flag.

    NMS:

Flatline likes to say,”Only those who post know.” Fair enough…so YHC will just say that Vinny sang and danced.

And, whoever was doing those donkey noises was a little too realistic.

  • The lights are on Spring Break

It’s April but winter seems to be holding on. Ten SOJ’ers broke the strong hold of the fartsack this morning (and it was strong) for a cold and dark beatdown that went something like this:

    COP:

    DQs x 10

    Helicopters x 12

    SSH x 25

    LBCs x 20

    Alternating shoulder taps x 20

    Long mosey around all fields

    7 of Diamonds

Round 1: 7 burpees at each corner of field

Round 2: 14 merkins at each corner

Round 3: 21 2-count flutters at each corner

Round 4: 28 monkey humpers at each corner

    Mosey to another soccer field.

    Bearpees

Cross field by performing 1 burpee followed by 4 count bear crawl

Repeat with 2 burpees and 8 count bear crawl

Repeat with 3 burpees and 12 count bear crawl

Repeat with 4 burpees and 16 count bear crawl

    Mosey back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, J’ville and Ollivander took us out.

    Announcements and Prayer Requests:

The Forge starts this Thursday at Huguenot High School

Lots of prayers needed for the Nicolette family (known to Shakedown and family) who were hit by a truck while on spring break in Kitty Hawk. Mom and Dad did not survive the crash and have left behind their kids. This is really hard to imagine…take a moment to hug your family tight today. https://www.wavy.com/news/north-carolina/2-pedestrians-die-child-hurt-after-being-hit-by-truck-in-kitty-hawk/1893342891

    NMS:

YHC was looking forward to this April Q thinking (naively) that it would be both warmer and maybe a little lighter. Big giant “NO” on both fronts this morning. For some reason, all the lights have been off recently at No Toll making for a very dark entrance. As Gumbo noted, they must be taking off for an extended spring break.

The Bearpees were a huge hit with the PAX this morning. If it’s mumblechatter worthy, then it’ll be worth bringing back.

Great to see Dr. Tryhard back out this morning after his lengthly bout with the plague. Thanks for posting the shovel flag. Sorry the PAX was unable to deliver a crowbar after you locked your keys in your truck while putting away said shovel flag. YHC trusts Ollivander got you home safe and you were able to get the spare keys.

The entire New Market crew was noticeably missing this morning…it wasn’t because YHCs name was on the Q sheet was it?

Gentlemen, thanks for allowing YHC to lead this morning…always a pleasure. Make today a great one!

    Peace…I’m out!

  • Touch ‘Em All

7 Northeasters eased into the gloom for a full body workout. This is how that happened:

Warmup with parking lot tracers and a pretty standard COP. Warmup them muscles, then start using them.

Legs: Mosey over to benches in front of CMS. Step ups, X10 each leg. Jump ups, X20. Happy Feet for 1 minute. Partner up for calf raises….X25. 1 legged calf raises X10 each leg. Deep slow squat for a 10 count down, then 10 count back up.

Arms: Mosey to field at CSES. 11’s with dips on the bench and good form merkins on the other side of the field. X10 pullups for everybody.

Abs: Mosey to big tire. X25 situps with feet on the tire…try to touch your elevated toes. Back to flag for Mary: Freddie Mercury’s, hip raises (both sides), heels to heaven, and 6 inches.

NMS: Glad Emoji made it out, as he was travelling until late last night. He claims he came out just because I had the Q, but I think he was just being nice. Big PROPS to Bulkhead for running the mile and change to and from the AO this morning….something he laughed off doing not even a month ago when Spike invited him to join. Keep coming out, and watch yourself change. The legs concentration had at least a few of us feeling it! Proof you dont need to do huge reps if you concentrate on doing good form. Plan on seeing something similar to that again real soon. Im talking to you, Dogpile.

Apology of the week goes out to Spit for flying by him on the way to RAMM last Friday. Sorry I drive better.

    Lab Rat Apologizes…

  • Stellar Starting 5

Some mighty men remain in RVA this week while the masses take a week of R&R.  For those that remain, the challenge is significant and the rewards are great.  Five noble warriors posted at Heartbreak this morning.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • 20 SSH
      • 15 Russian soldiers
      • 15 IW
      • 10 DQ
      • 15 helicopters
      • 20 hand release merkins
      • 20 Suzanne Somers, each leg
      • 20 2x flutter kicks
    • Mosey to the black top for a bearimeter of massive landscape with intermittent exercises totally
      • 50 burpees
      • 125 WWII sit-ups
      • 100 APDs
    • Mosey to the track for a Lindsay at the bleachers – dips and bench kicks
    • Mosey around the track back to the jerkin gym for 3 sets of 8 jerkins
    • Mosey to the edge of the track, finishing with a series of 6 Bernies
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Great job by the PAX today.  Seymour and Garbage Plate led a strong effort, with Ponch executing perfect burpee form.  Grateful for the fellowship of these men in an otherwise quiet and uneventful workout.  Honeydo, this workout was for you. We were a series of donkey kicks short of the Q being confused for you. Looking forward to reuniting with the rest of the PAX next week as folks get back in town.  Should be a quiet week at many of the AOs.

Goes without saying, but Go Hoos this weekend.  YHC double dipped on Saturday if you count the pacing and constant nervous movement during that epic Elite 8 victory.

God is good all of the time!

    Attila

  • First time for everything; The Hogan

There’s a first time for everything… first Q, and first time the PAX did more burpees than miles on a Spider Run day. Spirits were high for the mystery workout in memory of a dear friend (and Handshake’s old roommate!), on what would have been his 35th birthday. To learn more about the inspiration for today’s festivities, see here for the link. Here is how it all went down.

The PAX moseyed on over to the rally point near the bottom of the biggest hill Spider Run has to offer. YHC previously marked out 12 spots on the Bostwick hill, each with their own mystery exercise. The magic number was 35, as in The Hogan would have been 35 years old today. Run up the hill to the first point, read mystery exercise, come back down to the rally point complete 35 reps of said exercise, then run back up the hill to the next mystery exercise, and get to as many as you can. Bro Code was in place for the first hill, and the PAX ran up to the number 1 spot together, and there it was, 35 Merkins.

After that it was, 2.) LBCs, 3.) Squats, 4.) Burpees, 5.) Flutter Kicks, 6.) World War Twos, 7.) Mountain Climbers, 8.) Side Straddle Hops, 9.) Lunges, 10.) American Hammers, 11.) Burpees, and 12.) Burpees.

It was a best effort day so as the PAX neared the end time YHC moseyed everyone back to the COT.

COT: Numberama and Namearama. Prayer requests go out to a family close to Shakedown for tragic accident in the Outer Banks.

Great job today everyone, it was a good time remembering a good friend.

  • Y’all Know What Happens!

11pm Thursday, Twin Team has no Q. Y’all know the rest of the story…

Mosey to the summit of Twin Team (dropping flower pots and cones along the way) for a quick COP: DQ, Russian Soldiers, Helicopters, Cotton Pickers. Then run to each successive cone, do an exercise, and return to the summit.

1 – Bear Crawl back to summit
    2 – 30 derkins
    3 – 30 uphill WWIIs
4 – partner relay: one run to previous cone & back while other alternates hand-release merkin and 5-count plank
    5 – 20 burpees

As YHC has moved farther from the AO, this is likely the last time Sisyphus shows up during the school year. Thanks for putting up with it one more time, and for tolerating my late blackblast!

    YNWA

  • Change of Plans

Spring Break and the cold weather seems to have kept a few of the regular RiverRunners away for the morning. The three that made it discussed YHC’s original plans to do some hill repeats but decided to wait for another day with more PAX to get that done.

A flatter yet still repetitive route was chosen, the River loop. Down into the park around the loop and back to the school loop – repeato until 0615. 1 loop is slightly less than 2 miles. Some extra or adjustment here and there to get the time to work out right

Great job today guys, some gastrointestinal discomfort led both Doozy and Wedding Singer to adjust their routes. Doozy was happy we were running the river route so he could use the park facilities, much nicer than Singer’s choice of Gumbo’s Blue Box.

Talks of warmer weather and lighter days led YHC and Doozy to the future consideration of trail runs through the park. We got a glimpse of the sunrise over the river, in a few weeks it should be in full form and a TwinTeam field trip may be in order.

  • Book-End Burpee Beast is no ABB

Seven suspects came out on April Fools day to see if it indeed might be an All Burpee-Beast. Turns out only Toga would do that to the PAX but we did do our share of Burpees.

COP – Invisible Jump Rope, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys. Head over to bowl field for the Beast:

Round 1 Burpees, R2 Merkins, R3 WWIIs, R4 JumpSquats, R5 LBCs, Round 6 Burpees Again. Then head over to playground to introduce Batteau pax to:

Chazz Michael Michaels: 3 Rounds of 8. Then 3 sets of 25 Boxing Dying Roaches. Then set of Pickle Pounders. Mosey over to maintenance vehicle lot: Various animal transportation forms up the hill.

Over to Tennis courts: Suicides of Backwards run, side shuffle, forward, then Wheelbarrow across. Back to field for hill sprint up and back. Another set of Pickle Pounders then back to flag for RoF and COT. Sugar Sock took us out.

NMS: YHC took pity on the PAX and saved the 2nd round of Burpees in the Beast for the last round. The original intent was to do round 2 of Burpees and let the PAX ponder whether we might actually do all 6 rounds as burpees. Turns out starting and ending the beast on the hill with burpees was plenty. The only one disappointed by us not doing ABB was Sippy Cup.

The Chazz Michael Michaels traveled SOJ and the Batteau pax seemed to enjoy them.

Faceplant has a $50 off tattoo coupon if anyone is looking to get Ink’ed up for Spring Break. Great to have 7 out in the 30 degree temps. Mother Nature was the one with the trick this morning.
