  • A Post-St. Patty’s Day 6 Pack for River Run

6 River Run regulars posted this morning to run off the green beer and start the week right. No Q, no route, no problem…

Consensus was up Twin Team, right on Brigstock, out 23, back in 22…YHC asked for a loop around by the high school first to “build momentum” for Twin Team (i.e., delay the pain)…and off we went.

Twin Team never disappoints. In fact, it kicks you in the gut and lets you know the weekend is over real quick.

Great running with Orange Crush – strong partner work as we each took turns pulling and being pulled. Thanks brother. No way I hit that pace this morning without your help. Our man Doozy was either offended by our conversation or just out searching for Rosie ahead of the pack where he always is – either way, Doozy was on a mission and cranked through the miles this morning. Roper stuck with OC and me for the first half-mile to share his adventure of driving home from Denver, then dropped back to tell the story to Lug and Singer. Lug and Singer enjoyed the story as well, I’m sure. Lug Nut continues to crank out the miles and keep our six clear — almost didn’t stop Doozy from t-boning a deer, but luckily crisis was averted.

Well done fellas. Thanks for posting because I freaking hate running alone.

    Have a great week.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Crawl bear what?

13 strong at Hoedown this morning for a crisp workout to start the week off right.

    COP:

Quick warmup jog to the rear office lot followed by 10 Don Quixotes, 20 SSH’s, 20 LBC’s, and 10 HR Merkins.

    The Thang:

Start up – Mosey to the back church lot and partner up. Run to far end, partner one does 15x Squerkins, return & 15x for partner two. People’s chair for the six. Repeat with 30x PLT’s, 45x Willson’s Dying Cockroach and 15x BooYah Merkins.

The hammer – Mosey to the asphalt hill at Tuckahoe and enjoy a Dora. 100x squats, 200x box cutters, 300x flutter kicks. Trigger partner is crawl bearing up the asphalt hill and jogging back down. Good times. Plank for the six.

On the road – Several stops on the way to the back Tuckahoe field: 30x inclined WWII and 15x Alabama prom dates on the Tuckahoe map. Mosey to the rear playground rings. 4 rounds x 8 each of jerkins on the rings.

Finale:  Wrap-up with a burpee suicide across the back field, 7x at each stop. Plank for the six. Mosey back to the flag.

    Announcements:
    – Go Ruck shadows needed for this weekend; no exercise, just support. Get with Honeydo for details.
    – Dogpile this Saturday later start time of 7a and guest leader. Pre-work starting at ET’s; watch the pre-blast for information.

    Moleskin –
Thanks for the chance to lead such a fine group this morning. Mumble chatter was low & effort was strong. PAX put up a solid showing and crushed it. Nice work gentlemen! Peace – GP

  • Shamrock Shoulder Day

Seven leprechauns came for all the green Batteau had to offer. Here’s what we found at the end of the rainbow:

Vinny Q: SSHs x 20. Imperial Walkers x 15. Russian Soliders x 15. LBCs x 15. Merkins x 10. Stay on the tennis courts for Crab Walk 11s. One exercised per side. Doubles line to doubles line. LBCs and Squats.

ABBA Q: Mosey to playground. Partner up for 5 by 5s. 5 Pull-ups timed the dips. 5 rounds each. Mosey to the grassy knoll for more 5 by 5 fun. 5 Flutter Kicks at the bottom and 5 Merkins at the top. Repeat x 5. Back to the playground for, you guessed it, 5 by 5s. Partner up. 5 Pull-ups and Squats.

Flange Q: Mosey back to the grassy knoll for Touch a Dora. 100 LBCs. 150 Freddy Mercurys. 200 Jump Squats. Touch a different tree when running out. Back to the flag for 2MOM. Merkin ring of fire. 7 dealers choice. Non-yoga, yoga to finish.

    Flange took us out.

Announcements: Grow Ruck comes to town this weekend. See Pre-Blast. Dogpile launches at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast Club launches at 6:30 a.m. from ET’s. If you are planning to hit DP, we need you to join us for Breakfast Club as well. There will also be an early bird at ET’s on Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. leading up to the 6:30 launch. Join us for that as well if you’d like.

Moleskin: Spring and Spring Break are in the air. The Joneses are in full swing. Who can go on the most impressive spring break trip is a well known Richmond tradition. Flange went to Radford. YHC is staying put. The Joneses we are not.

Great morning for a beatdown today, and maybe a little non-yoga, yoga for Shakedown. YHC spilled some merlot, and can’t even say I had any green beer or otherwise yesterday. Gotta love Richmond in the spring time (and in the fall for that matter). Enjoyed it, as always.

  • What’s In A Name

With the time change firmly in our past, 34 warriors and 1 FNG were greeted with sunny skies and 70 degree weather. With 3 minutes to spare before go time, YHC hastily arrived and we headed out in the gloom for a beatdown that went something like this:

COP / Warmup: Imperial Walkers x10 IC (which I mistakenly started out doing Imperial Squat Walkers until corrected). Cherry Pickers x10 IC. Russian Soldiers x10 IC. 10 Burpees OYO.

4×50’s. Run 1 loop, do 50 merkins. Run a 2nd loop, do 50 squats, Run a 3rd loop, do 50 LBC’s. Run a 4th loop, do 50 Monkey Humpers. Plank until done with Swirly leading.

Burp-n-Pull at the Rusty Cage. Mosey to the Rusty cage where it was a little darker than I considered. Yet like brave warriors, we pushed through. Do 1 pull-up, run to the fire hydrant, do 1 Burpee. Run back. Do 2 pull-ups, run to the fire hydrant, do 2 Burpees. Pyramid up until you reach 5 and then pyramid back down. Hardywood led us in some Mary as we waited for the PAX to finish.

Dora at the Amphitheater. After a lot of mumble chatter from Wilson about the amount of running, we went to the Amphitheater for a Dora. The running part was up and down the Amphitheater, with the exercises being 100 Merkins, 200 Squats, and 300 LBC’s. Plank until done with Swirly leading.

Burp-n-Merk at the Carillon. We wrapped up our time at the Carillon where we ran across the field and did 1 traditional Burpee with 1 push-up at the bottom. Run back and a do 1 Burpee with 2 push-ups at the bottom. Pyramid up until 5. Plank when done.

Mosey back to the flag for 60 seconds of Burpees OYO. Number-a-rama. Name-a-rama. Gomer Pyle took us out. SOJ won the Ghost flag.

Announcements. This coming Saturday’s DogPile workout will start 1 hour later at 7am. There is talk of a pre-workout launching from ET’s. Look for a preblast for details. I think there were other announcements, but I forgot. So add them in the comments section.

NMS. This was my first DogPile queue and I was grateful to lead you fine men on a running heavy beatdown. I like to keep my queue’s simple: Run, ground-n-pound, repeat. I appreciated the friendly mumble chatter, especially from Wilson. So I partnered with him on the Dora so we could suffer together. Thanks to Swirly and Hardywood for helping me out at the end with Planks and Mary while we waited for the PAX. You guys are great leaders. It was great seeing Greenbow back after the birth of his son.

We also welcomed an FNG from New Market, also named Wilson (real name). I apologize to all as my naming leadership is pretty poor and today was no exception. It didn’t help that Wilson kept yelling at me to hurry up and choose. With no good names flowing out, I postponed the decision until we had a more fruitful discussion at ET’s, where we discovered that FNG is a dancer. This led to proposals like Swayze (Dirty Dancing), Carlton (Fresh Prince of Bel Air), Danny Kaye (Christmas Vacation). Hardywood lobbied for Carpetbagger (Northerners who come to the South). As a fan of Christmas vacation, I’m going with Danny Kaye.

The time at ET’s was full of laughs, hot coffee, and tasty (albeit slightly overpriced) food. The new CSAUP challenge was also issued at TYA’s table to anyone who could row 2000 meters in 7 minutes. Circle K is 0 for 5, but Swirly is ready to step up to the batter’s box (in more than one way) next.

Have a great weekend and see ya in the gloom!

  • Breakfast Club: 3/23/19 – All Hands on Deck. 6:30 Launch

Dogpile on Saturday March 23rd launches at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast Club will launch at 6:30 from ET’s. We want all the guys posting to Dogpile to post to Breakfast Club so we can roll in to Dogpile as one unit. It’s less than 2 miles at a joggers pace. Please bring your shovel flags.

Anyone interested is also welcome to join us at 6:00 in the ET’s parking lot for some light stretching and exercises called leading up to the 6:30 launch.

  • Time to make something up

8 Davillians came out to embrace one of the first mornings of spring, 63 and sunny. Here is what we did..

COP SSH, merkins, invisible jumpropes, DQ, LBC’s, arm circles, more SSH

Mosey to end of parking lot by tower, partner up. One partner runs to first island, other does HRM, switch, run to second island, Bobby Hurley’s, switch, run to end, Freddie Mercury’s.
Mosey to picnic shelter, OYO, 16 each of dips, box jumps, derkins and LBC’s. All warmed up, time for some fun. The field’s right there, let’s do partner carry! Forward 10 steps, both do 10 merkins, bear crawl back, switch, 20 steps, 20 heels to heaven, bear crawl back, 30 steps, 30 box cutters, lunge back, switch, 40 steps, 40 squats, lunge back. Head over to parking lot for 11’s, calf raises, lunge between, HRM. Head over to the flag, hold canoe for 60 seconds. Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS-YHC agreed to swap Q’s with The Carpenter, who is under the weather, and 2/3 of the way through today realized not enough was planned, so audibled to 11’s, which the PAX just love, especially Mudface. It was great to see Wild Thing out again, and hear that his M is doing better–keep her and their family in your prayers. There was plenty of the 4th F this morning, that’s okay, just helps move the PAX along. Kudos to Chewy, who YHC asked to give an exercise for the last 60 seconds, “But not boat/canoes” so Chewy just said, “Okay, canoe.” Well done sir.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Luck of the Irish… a day early

    MOLESKIN

    • Back by popular demand (you can thank Rosie), the Lucky Horseshoe continues to be a crowd pleaser. Glad to be able to bring it on the road to the south side of the river, it will be back at Heartbreak next month. Perfect timing to have it a day before St. Patty’s Day, but due to the gloom I have no idea if anyone was wearing kelly green or not.
    • Good work this morning, everyone. This is a tough one and it was clear everyone did a great job of pushing themselves. Congrats to Rosie and Tobit on your completion of the victory lap, that is no small accomplishment! I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead today, it felt good to get back in the Q saddle after some winter germ-induced months of being unable to regularly put in a ton of posts.
    • Hopefully nobody lost any shoes on our shortcut to the track, the Q almost did…
    • Results (last lap completed) for those who wanted to keep them for future reference:
      Orange Crush – 8
      Don Draper – almost 9
      Mr. Holland – 8
      Tobit – VICTORY LAP
      Rosie – VICTORY LAP
      Loose Goose – 8

See you again in the gloom very soon, and enjoy your green beer this weekend!

    Loose Goose

  • Extended Bootleg Track

25 Strong showed no concern for the Ides of March and decided to Run, Ruck, and Bike in the gloom.

The Carillon route was called and off we went. The ruckers enjoyed carrying a small body bag through the streets attracting various looks from the early morning crowd.

Congratulations goes to Bootleg who completed an Ultra this past weekend with snow no less. Well done sir! It was great to hear the details of your adventure.

    Announcements:

The GrowRuck team is looking for volunteer shadows to assist for a few hours throughout the event. See Shakedown or Honey Do if you want to drink beer and watch them workout.

Too much time tapering, time to run.

    Lockjaw

  • Beach time is right around the corner.

13 Gentlemen arrived to 45MOM this morning in hopes that a workout would start their day in the most positive of directions….0529 50 secs….time to mosey.

The PAX took off with the Q right in the middle…..um, maybe they can read minds. Within 200 yds, Q kept running down the sidewalk with PAX looking for direction. 3/4 mosey around the block of Mary and to the blacktop for COP= x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 20 SSH, x 15 Seal Jacks, x 15 Copperhead Squats, x 15 Box Cutters, x 15 Flutter Kicks, x 10 Merkins, x 10 Booyah Merkins. Done…and mosey to the field.

Red Barchetta= PAX lined up for instructions. Run 100 yds and perform 100 SSH, back to the line. Run 75 yrds, perform 75 Mountain Climbers, back to the line. 50 yd run, 50 LBC’s, back. 25 yd run, 25 Merkins, back. 10 yd run, 10 Burpees.

Partner up and each partner performs 100 Wilson’s Dying Cockroach. Any increment you want but gotta finish 100.

Super 21……Q favorite. 1 WWII situp, 1 Merkin. 2 WWII situps, 2 Merkins…..and so all the way to 21. IC too. Due to time constraints. audible called for situps at 20 and 21 to LBC’s AYO but Merkins were IC. Had to finish. Mosey back to the flag.

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Honeydo needs assistance with logistics for Growruck next weekend (driving the supply wagon) in one of the later shifts. Next Friday night is Happy Hour somewhere in RVA. Watch for preblast. Dogpile is 0700 on Saturday, 3/23 with Dredd leading. Breakfast Club will leave ET’s at 0630. ALL F3 MEN INVITED TO BREAKFAST CLUB!

    YHC took us out!

NMS: Light crowd today but it is Spring Break for some. Great work today men and beach season is right around the corner. Q really likes Super 21!! TYA has a way newer watch than the Q so he helped keep time this am. YHC illumination no longer works. Thank you TYA.

Upchuck, sometimes I overestimate and sometimes I underestimate and fractions were a long time ago. Sugar Sock great to see you out this morning and hopefully, the funk has left your crib.

Thank you for following this morning men! Every day I thank the Lord for the ability to breathe and experience my life. And those days that start at the Gloom, my day is just a little bit sweeter! And we are all blessed!

    Only those who post understand.

    Loud and Proud,

    Flatline

  • 4 for a Swirly-esque Hot Potato of M’Dukes Favorite Things…

4 men broke the silence at Timberwolf. No Q was listed so YHC grabbed the reins and professed to be only the opening act for a Hot Potato…but along the way something changed and YHC devoured that Hot Potato all by himself…it went something like this:

Long mosey down to the entrance and over to the bus lot for COP, including:

    • SSHs
    • Imperial Walkers
    • DQs
    • Copperhead Squats
    • Alternating Shoulder Taps
    • Plank Jacks
    • Flutter Kicks

    THE THANG:

Lightpole 11s around the bus lot with HRMs and Ball Dippers

The PAX remembered it was Marmaduke’s 40th birthday today, so over to the school wall for 40 Donkey Kicks (and this is where the Hot Potato got cold and hogged by YHC)…time for one of M’Duke’s favorite things….Light Pole Alley Suicides

Light Pole Alley Suicides – start at the first light pole with an exercise – run to last (10th) lightpole and do the same exercise, then run back to the 2nd light pole and Al Gore for the six and for identification of the next exercise. Continue until we end up at the 10th light pole. It was dealer’s choice in rotating fashion (hey, that’s kind of a Warm Potato…right?). Exercises included:

    • 10 Burpees (Gumbo)
    • 15 Monkey Humpers (Honeymoon)
    • 20 Plank Jacks (Rosie)
    • 10 Diamond Merkins (at the 4th light) – 10 Werkins (at the 10th light) (Bullseye)
    • 10 2-ct Crab Cakes (Gumbo)
    • 40 1-ct Mountain Climbers (H-moon)
    • 15 Bobby Hurley (touch the ground) Jump SHOTS (Rosie)
    • 10 walk-out merkins (Bullseye — his super power BTW…and, OUCH)
    • 40 APDs (Gumbo)
    • 20 Carolina Dry Docks (you’re welcome Duke) In Cadence (H-moon)

Ring of Fire – Mosey over to the concrete pad by the parking lot for 2 rounds of Ring of Fire – holding six inches (or Elbow Plank for Bullseye) and doing 10 Hello Dollies (or Merkins) when it comes to you.

Hold Six Inches (Elbow Plank) for last 30 seconds.

COT – Number-Rama, Name-A-Rama and YHC took us out.

No new announcements – see previous BBs about Grow-Ruck 3/23 and 0700 Dogpile led by Dredd 3/23. I believe some folks are Rucking at RAMM tomorrow. Good luck to Pullout riding 100 miles this weekend.

    NMS:

YHC has no intentions of Q’ing and then had all intentions of passing the Q off after 11s, but the reminder about Marmaduke’s 40th left no question what had to be done so YHC just made it happen. Thanks for going along gents. Great suggestions on the dealers’ choices…well, except those walkout merkins, Bullseye. Those sucked.

Missed ‘ya Duke. Hope you are nothing but Fairways and Greens today. Happy Birthday brother!

Good job fellas – way to work.

    No More Gumbo For You!
