  • Welcome to BRURUCK!

05:00 on this chilly Wednesday, 5 HIMs gathered for the BRU VQ. Since it was still pitch dark and relatively unfamiliar territory, YHC decided to keep things close to base so we wouldn’t get lost in the woods.

Warmerama – Getting the blood flowing with a brisk hike around the strip mall. When rounding the corner, the PAX were thinking they were in for a walk down monotony-lane, but leave it to YHC to get things complicated quickly.

The BRURUCK: With a bit of imagination and concentration, the BRURUCK started to take shape. On Each letter the PAX did a fitting exercise using their rucks:
    – B: 5 x Burpees
    – R: 10 x Rows / arm
    – U: 15 x Up-and-downs (Calve raises)
    – R: 15 x Squats (Because YHC didn’t want to take off his pack for Rows again)
    – U: Same as above
    – C: 15 x Crunches
    – K: 10 x King Merkins (Like normal Merkins, but with a “K”)

We finished off with a Quick “RVA” and then set out to explore the lake. On return the PAX completed two rings of fire and closed off with a COT.

Announcements: Chili Cook off, Daddy Daughter Dance.
Coffee and Chapter 9 of Atomic Habits.

  • Finally Race Prep Run

3 Davillians including a FNG arrived in Ashland on Saturday morning to help YHC get in one last long run before the Half this weekend.

We ran on the newly completed 5 mile straight of the Fall Line Trail going from Carter Park on Ashcake run in Ashland down to Woodmen Rd in Henrico.

BAM and our FNG got in a 10k while YHC got in 10 miles

    Great morning for a run

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Sausage casing weather at FW

Eight PAX answered the early call to First Watch and started a few seconds early. We did:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks.

Mosey to back lot of RRbC for a “basic 4 corners” as Handshake called it: 10 Burpees, 20 HRMs, 30 Jump Squats, 40 SSH. Go over to front of church and find some grass for PLTs: 3 rounds of 20.

Over back to parking lot to retrieve some coupons, then over to HCSP for a Dora: 100 Block Thrusters, 200 Block presses, 300 Squats. Keep same partner and add 4 rounds: Swings, Skull crushers, SitnPresses, more block presses. Mosey back to flag, drop off coupons, finish up with few seconds of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Solid PAX this morning and great to see Lockjaw back out in the Gloom. With Kubota and Gomer with us YHC chose to not venture out too far from the AO center. Not a ton of mumblechatter this morning besides the PAX being supportive of YHC taking the Q.

Just like all things Christmas encroaches earlier in to November the SZN of GVN at First Watch kicks off next week.

  • No Wood in The Woodshed!!!

Due to an unforeseen illness that took Excel (the original Q) down, the studs of New Market rallied to save the day! Six New Marketeers showed up ready to roll—only to find no wood in the woodshed! The cold temps and the looming Richmond Half/Marathon scared off the rest. What followed was a hot potato-style beatdown that went something like this:

Hermey Q – Warm up mosey followed various IC exercises, followed by a few minutes of Dojo Dan. Man Down!! Nancy Lopez failed to turn the hip over enough during sidekicks and suffered a minor pinched nerve injury. Despite the jolting pain, he lifted his head high and carried on!

Futon Q – COP 1: Mosey down to the newly lit street that has a sneaky incline for a little pyramid – Starting at the bottom of the hill perform 10 Squats, run to the top for 10 Squats, 20 Carolina Dry Docks, run down the hill for 10, 20, 30 Double Count Flutter Kicks, run up the hill for 10, 20, 30, 40 Hand Release Merkins. Quick rest and run back down the hill for 40 SSH, run up the hill for 40, 30 Double Count Mountain Climbers, run down the hill for 40, 30, 20 B-Girl Rayguns (named after the Australian Break Dancers), run up the hill for 40, 30, 20, 10 Alabama Prom Dates.

Heist Q – COP 2: Triple Check from the entrance to the parking lot to the stop sign at the main road. P1 performs Squats, P2 performs WW2s.

Globetrotter Q – COP 3: Short side 11’s in the parking with incline and decline merkins

Time called, Numbers, Names, Announcements – The Bridge 11/15, SOJ Chili Cook Off 11/23, Daddy/Daughter Dance 12/6, Prayer Requests – Hardywood and the F3 Pax lifted up for the great work to donate athletic gear and getting it shipped to PAX in Kenya, Wildcat and Gal for recent quarterly cancer scans – some changes seen and awaiting further testing for treatment options. Keep praying, but we know God has it in his control and Wildcat’s mental and physical power is truly amazing.

Pleasure taking part of the hot potato workout. There is a lot of sickness going around, so hope everyone stays well. Have a blessed day!

  • It sounded fun in my head

SOT is back or at least YHC is trying to will it back to life. As the first back open SOT YHC thought it would be good to do the doors.

5:30 and the runners are off so YHC Mosey’s to door #1 for a quick warm up.

    Doors:

1 -17 Merkins and LBC’s the number equivalent to the door you are at

    17-20A Squats and WWIIs – 20B Mekins

    21-33 Squats and WWIIs

    BTTF – stretches and V-ups

Meet up with the runners Numbers / Names DD took us out (see MOT BB for his report)

NMS: A good beatdown is never as good when you don’t have people to share in the misery. Hopefully word will get out about SOT being back in business and this once great AO will be great again.

  • Over 5 miles

2 runners and 4 ruckers gathered at Atlee High School on this cold and windy yet sunny and 70 morning.

    The Route

The runners ran into Taylor Farm, Honey Meadows, Kings Charter, Madison Springs, Chickahominy Oaks, Summer Duck, back into Taylor Farm, and back to the VSF for a little over 5 miles. It’s rare that DaVille runners break the 5 mile barrier. The ruckers walked somewhere for likely a little more than 2 miles.

COT: Numberarama, Name-O-Rama, Annoucements, Yard Sale took us out.

    NMS

It was great running with BAM! this morning. The wind definitely woke us up but we kept a fairly strong pace througout the run. Well done ruckers again with 4 of you posting.

    Announcements

    • Thanksgiving workout – 7 AM at Mary Mumford
    • DaVille 2nd F – This Thursday at PBR. Time TBD

    Gotta Run!

    Phonics

  • YHC and a Bunch of Rabbits

One nocturnal man and uncounted rabbits launched at the stroke of 04:00 in the latest edition of The Clinic. Conditions were 70 and sunny with dense fog and intense blackness. According to the rabbits silflaying, the following may quite possibly have happened.

Mosey to the edge of the golf course for the COP.

SSHs x30 (4 count, unless otherwise noted)
    Imperial Walkers x20
    LBCs x20
    Flutter kicks x20

Mosey about 200 yards, pass the Dana Point Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and perform 20 HRMs.

Continue moseying another 200 yards, stopping for a variety of squats, LBCs, WWIIs, merkins, and so forth, generally following the fall-line of the trails towards the beach. Ignore the darkness. Embrace the isolation.

At the top of the bluff, continue right / downward to the beach path, then down the steps to the sand, forward 50 yards to the water line. Turn 80 degrees right / north, until intersection of water / sand, then proceed 6-10 feet west of intersection of sand / water (i.e., run in the water).

    Note: Water temp 66 degrees.

Proceed to intersection of rocks / water / cliff. Find appropriate sized rock. 20 merkins. Find different appropriately sized rock. 20 boat / canoe. Do so without ingesting water / sand.

Proceed south on beach, repeating 6-10 feet from water’s edge, always on the water side. Approximately 1 mile run. Glorious.

Repeat rock exercises at south end of beach.

Proceed north / east to beach road and follow road uphill. Grade as much as 14%. Unforgiving. Lower speed, force continued run. Do not walk.

At top of hill, repeat exercises.

Continue east / northeast through city park and back to golf course, repeating exercises 3-4 additional times. 3 MOM at edge of golf course.

Number, name, and YHC took himself out.

NMS: YHC finds this workout to be the pinnacle of experiences, approximately 2x per year. Few things like exercising along the beach anywhere in the world. With the time change and the jet lag, YHC did this a bit earlier than normal. Good for the soul.

Announcements: EF Hutton leading The Bridge this weekend. No finer person to help our fellow men. Sign up, join up, and experience all 3 Fs in one morning.

  • Welcome to Club L Woods

On a frigid, blustery Veterans Day, YHC kicked things off with a simple prompt: name someone, military or not, who has made sacrifices in your life.

Before the beat even dropped, Scram, hearing the low hum of YHC’s generator, asked the question of the morning: “What’s that sound?” Moments later, the PAX would learn exactly what it was as the playground at NoToll transformed into Club L Woods, complete with a generator-powered karaoke speaker and flashing lights.

After a friendly reprimand from Rosie to not disturb the neighbors, YHC introduced Scram to his playlist, including some Rage Against the Machine. With power cords, flashing LEDs, and guitar riffs echoing through the cold, the PAX pushed through four-minute stations with 20-second breaks.

It all wrapped with a final sprint from the playground to the basketball court. As the music faded, each man called out the name of his one, someone who had sacrificed for him.

    WARM-O-RAMA (10 MIN)

    • SSH, Don Quixotes × 10 IC, imperial squat walkers, mummy kicks, merkins, lbcs, alabama prom dates

Thank you all of our service-members, active and non-active, and for the sacrifices you have made.

  • Pounding in the cold

15 of Westhoe’s greatest braved this cold windy Tuesday morning and tried to keep warm with a lot of movement. This including 3 teenagers in shorts: Joey Chesnutt, Mariner and Handshake. According to Handshake’s rock hard nipples, we did something like the following:

13 of us went to the football field at 5:30 and soon were joined by Fudd and Full House. We did some warmups of SSH, Uranian Soldiers, Copperhead Squats, LBCs, WW2, Merkins and maybe some other stuff.

We then went for a preview of everyone’s favorite Christmas Movie Die Hard and hit the Ridge. We did 2 sets of exercises at the bottom, ran to the top and did SSH until the six reached the top. Then we went back down for some more. 1st set was 20 HRM and 20 WW2, 2nd was 20 Merkins and 20 Heals, 3rd was 20 Wide Merkins, 20 Dollies, 4th was 20 Chuck Norris and 20 Rosalitas and the 5th was ten burpees. The hill won’t fully transform into Nakatomi Plaza until late December.

We walked down the hill one last time and then moseyed back to the football field. There we did my favorite Double Quarter Pounder. First set was 25 HRM at the 25, 50 LBC at the 50, 75 single count Mountain Climbers and 100 SSH, bernie back to the goal line each time. Second set was 25 Merkins, 50 Hammers, 75 Squats and 100 single count Freddies.

With a little time left, we hit the benches and did a Lindsey of 30 dips/10 bench kicks, to 20/20 and then 10/30. Then back to the flag for some Mary of LBC, Suzanne Sommers and WW2. 1.2 miles today which is about average for this AO.

Announcements: The Bridge this Saturday with EF Hutton, Thanksgiving at Mary Mumford. Joey’s hotdogs for lunch today at noon.

Big thanks to all who served and currently serving. Prayers to the Correll family and all those fighting cancer.

“Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone.” But I am grateful that is not the case with this group.
