  • Hoedown year in review

12 strong decided to send off the 2018 gloom with a tour of Westham and a review of the year of Hoedown.  5:25am and Phonics appears and surprises everyone with the “cross-town” trip.  5:28am and Mr. Holland arrives one minute early.  5:30am and it’s time to mosey to the front of the school for:

    COP:

    Don Quixote x 12

    SSH x 31

    Copperhead Squats x 20

    LBC’s x 18

    12/31/2018

Mosey down Ridge Road to the Trinity Methodist parking lot.  There were two VQ’s at Hoedown this year.  Fireman Ed had one of them.  Fireman Ed is a J-E-T-S fan and their record this year was an improvement on last year’s 3-13.  They went 4-12 this year.  So Fireman Ed got to choose 4 sets of 12 of something.  They were merkins with a burpee in between each set, so you had to get up in between the sets.  Well done, Fireman Ed.

Mosey down Rock Creek Rd to a right on Baldwin Rd and come to a halt in front of Marv’s house.  VCU won last night and have improved their record to 9-4.  So Marv got to choose 9 reps of something and 4 reps of something else.  They were 9 burpees and 4 hillbillies.  This stop had nothing to do with the Hoedown year in review.  We just stopped because it was Marv’s house.

Mosey down Baldwin to Westham and stop at stop sign.  Hoedown had an FNG this year that has really stayed the course and has accumulated 168 posts in 2018.  It was Handshake.  Handshake was not present, so Phonics got to choose the exercises because he came the farthest distance this morning.  16 2-count mountain climbers and 8 2-count Freddy Mercuries were performed.

Mosey south on Westham and stop at Beechwood.  The other VQ at Hoedown for 2018 was YHC’s.  YHC is a Reskins fan and at Hoedown we usually perform burpees equal to the number of points the Redskins score the day before.  Well, you can’t do ZERO burpees, so YHC went with their record of 7-9 and we performed 7 hand release merkins and 9 WW2 sit-ups.  One burpee for Mr. Holland being one minute early this morning.

Mosey down Westham to a right on Hillsdale and approach Lockjaw’s house.  Lockjaw had the most Q’s at Hoedown this year (9) so we did 4 sets of 9 box cutters with a burpee in between each set in front of his house.

Mosey to a left on Lakewood and stop at Westham.  YHC did not know this, but we were at Pucker’s house.  Pucker was still inside in the fartsack.  The average attendance at Hoedown this year was 12.  So we partnered up and performed 4 sets of 12 plerkins each partner.

Mosey north on Westham to the other Hillsdale intersection and stop in the median to complete 25 Tron jump squats in honor of Fudd who finally moved out of his house down the street.  YHC wanted to make it down to his old house and perform them in the yard, but time was not in our favor of making it that far.

Mosey up Westham to Lindsay Dr. and stop.  There was a CSAUP earlier this year that Team DRM (Tuckahoe) won in blowout fashion.  Hoedown in Team Tuckahoe’s home base, so PAX lays down and with legs straight out spells “COMPLETELY STUPID AND UTTERLY POINTLESS”  One Burpee for Gomer Pyle breaking his foot at Hoedown earlier this year.

Mosey back to TES and get in teams of three for a favorite of many Q’s at Hoedown, a triple check using the bus loop.  P1 runs loop, P2 does flutter kicks, P3 does donkey kicks on cafeteria wall.

COT, Numberama, Namearama, Announcements and Gomer Pyle took us out!

    Announcements:

Convergence at Heartbreak Ridge tomorrow at 7am!  YHC voted for 5:30am but was overruled.  Now YHC cannot attend because he has to leave at 7:00am to go to Williamsburg for the day and go shopping with the M.  5:30am would have been better!  Who cares if you are still hungover.  HA!

Gomer Pyle is going to Honduras in a couple of weeks for a mission trip.  Please donate if you can to help his team out.  If you would like to donate, shoot him a message and he can tell you how.

Swiper’s Birthday is today.  HBD Swiper!

    NMS:

What a great first full calendar year at Hoedown.  The darkest AO in RVA has drawn some great numbers and has had 16 different PAX members Q during the Monday morning beatdown.  Even Lab Rat has Q’d Hoedown.  YHC felt like running this morning, so we got in 2.5 miles during the tour and stopped to get in the appropriate exercises at safe areas of the streets (the intersections).

There are plenty of possible FNG’s living near TES, so let’s make a better effort in 2019 of EH’ing those guys and getting them back out after their first post.  Everyone be safe tonight.

    See ya in the gloom!

    Kubota

    keep posting!

  • A rucking bloodhound

4 men clambered out of the fartsack and rucked/walked on the final day of 2018.  Spit and Pinky put in 3 miles at a 17:30 pace, Mudface and No Idea meandered around for about the same, not sure of the pace.  And then there’s this…

Well, you see, this is how the gang got on the case–there was an old man, Lab Rat I think is his name, who kept telling everyone “there’s a sand volleyball court around here, I promise!”  People in these parts normally don’t pay much attention to his ramblings, as some think he’s a bit touched in the head, if you know what I mean, but the gang and YHC thought “maybe he’s on to something this time, let’s try to find it.”  Mudface and YHC walked all over tarnation 2 weeks ago looking for it, with nary a clue as to it’s location after our odyssey.  Today Spit and Pinky joined the search, and faster than the Carpenter can produce the 4th F, Spit, part bloodhound perhaps, found not just one, but two courts right near the baseball field.  The courts are rather disappointing, covered in as much grass as sand, but now we know where they are.  Perhaps part of DaVille soon?  Time will tell.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • RIP Dick Clark

Four Time Square Goers hit the city streets of Batteau for a Rockin New Years Eve Beatdown. The countdown:

Dr. Try Hard took us out. Great message. Well said.

Announcements: NYD Convergence tomorrow at HBR. 7:00 start. Honeydo may have Bloodies afterwards. Bring coats for Marmaduke. 100 is in sight.

NMS: Today was an important day for all of us. It signified the completion of the 2018 year. It signified the beginning of the 2019 year. As YHC looks back on 2018, by no means was I unhappy. But by definition, I was a Sad Clown. That all changed on 2/24/18 when I posted at my first F3 beatdown, a Dogpile. I could spend all day on here thanking each of you for all that followed. We’ve shared awesome moments of triumph. Never failure, but many, many moments of pushing through and giving it all, when we didn’t have it all to give. Words do this group no justice, truly. Brotherhood isn’t strong enough. Inspirational isn’t worthy enough. Support is demonstrative enough. YHC is sincerely grateful for each of you, and cannot wait to further the bonds in 2019. Happy New Year men!

  • One Last Visit in 2018…

5 RiverRun regulars posted for some miles this morning.  YHC called for the traditional Tarrington route and off we went.  Just before crossing through the BUSH, YHC heard the call of nature and one last visit to YHC’s favorite small deposit facility called for an audible and YHC headed straight down Robious Road crossing the finish line just in time.  The rest of the PAX continued on the route.  LugNut crushed his own route.

COT, Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • New Year’s Day Convergence 0700 at Heartbreak Ridge.  Questions abound as to whether NoToll or SpiderRun or Daville will host 0530 beatdowns for opportunities to start the year off with a double-dip.  Consensus around the circle was that none of us would be at NoToll.

Great running with Rosie, Doozy and Flatline while it lasted.

Some great 2nd F at Starbucks with Rosie and Flatline.  We solved all the world’s problems.

    A great send-off to 2018.  Here’s to a great 2019 ahead.

No More Gumbo For You…in 2018!

  • A trail run and a rucking good time

Five runners and four ruckers posted on a beautiful Sunday morning.  The five runners headed over the nickel bridge and did a loop around forest hill park.  Flip dog took the buttermilk back, the rest of the crew opted for the buttermilk to T. Pottersfield, the north bank and back for a ten miler.  The ruckers headed over the bridge as well, all went to the spur and back for at least an hour and 20 minute ruck.  Shakedown, headed back out the trail to meet the guys at the two mile point and ran back to the parking lot. Rosie put in a few extra miles pre workout logging a total of almost 15.

  • The Young Bucks at the Boneyard

Nine of the faithful posted on a wet, but relatively warm late-December morning at the GridIron. Johnsonville (YHC) took the Q, and this is what went down, more or less:

    50x SSH
    20x Arm Circles
    12x Merkins
    20x Adderal’s Prom Dates
    50x Imperial Walkers -> Hillbillies

Hearts — Merkins x2 face value
Diamonds — Mt. Climbers x2 face value
Spades — Squats x2 face value
Clubs — LBCs x2 face value

Burpees and Suicides were normally followed by a round of planks, wall sits, or Al Gores.

COT with YHC taking us out. Coffeeteria.

    Moleskin —

Now that Chum Bucket and YHC have crossed into our 50s, GridIron undeniably the “boneyard” of F3RVA (“I can Kick; I can Stretch”). Vanilla Ice and Cheetah, however, being teenagers, are helping to push our average age down into the mid-forties. Thanks guys!

Vanilla Ice tore up the pickleball court suicides. Cheetah and Touchma gave chase to Vanilla Ice several times, but when they got within 10 yards of Vanilla Ice, Vanilla Ice shifted into another gear (without even breathing heavy) and dusted them.

Attila complimented YHC’s choice of 21 burpees, stating that “I pulled that number out of my *ss.”

The workout ran over about 5 min with the consent of all. Sorry about that …. The last 2 Aces happened to be within the last 4 cards. That was good clean fun …

I believe we had 100% participation at the Coffeeteria.

    Happy New Year. Jville

    MOLESKIN

2018 is almost in the books and it has been a great year for F3RVA. Today was just a small fraction of some of the stats for first full year of Big Data.

As always there are some great highlights from today but as the Q, YHC always seems to have a hard time remember whats going on. YHC ask that you share moments in the comment but here is what comes to mind:

    • TClaps to both Sippy Cup and Opus who kept in mid the six. Sippy Cup loop us back during the Indian run to grab Bone Thug at the beginning. Opus noticed he fallen behind near Love Hill and stay back to wait.
    • Swirly made sure this workout would need with a BANG with the V Ups
    • Bone Thung got his VQ but leading the search for his keys post workout
    ANNOUNCEMENTS
    • Marmaduke is still collecting coats. Up to 98 now. Let’s get him to 100!
    • Shakedown and Honey Do leading a Ruck during Sunday Funday.
    • New Year Day Convergence at Heartbreak Ridge @ 7am

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Turn around, right now!

14 strong gathered in the rain for a new hill to explore.

Directions.  Reverse Carillon route to the edge of Windsor Farms.  Then deviate and turn right on Douglasdale road to go down the hill.  4 milers–go down Douglasdale to the end,  turn around and head back.

5 milers–Run down Douglasdale, but turn right on Loch Lomond, go to dead end and head back to Douglasdale.  Turn right on Douglasdale, go to end, and on the way up the hill turn right to go on the other side of Loch Lomond to the end and back, then head up Douglasdale to the starting place.  Then run down and up Douglasdale one more time.

6 milers–Same as 5 milers but do an additional Loch Lomond loop.

    COT-Sippy took us out.

Moleskin.  YHC has explored these hills before as they are a short distance from his house.  It is about a 1/3 mile from the bottom of Douglasdale to the top, and the full loop with the Loch Lomond spurs is about 1 mile.  Having not run these in the dark before, YHC was not aware of the aggressive security guard stationed at the bottom of Douglasdale.  We all got yelled at and made quick turn-arounds at the bottom.  Someone should post what they are guarding down there!  At least we gave them something unusual this morning.

YHC was not planning on running this morning due to some Plantar Fasciitis, but when Guiness showed up late, he decided to be a good host and join him for a nice jog, and the foot loosened up. We also had a nice conversation about dealing with injuries, F3, faith and disillusionment, etc.  The banter kept YHC’s mind off of the pain.  The foot feels better still! Just what I needed Guiness!

A few of the PAX ran the regular carillon route, while others got a little bit lost on Douglasdale.  Par for the course for a new route.  Those that did stay on course were treated to a nice dose of hills that some appreciated, while others (Upchuck) did not.

  • Twin Team Lindsay

6 Warriors and 3 Ruckers arrived on a mild and raining Friday morning for another edition of Spit-mania.

Numberama, Namerama, and Announcements. YHC took us out

    MOLESKIN

This marks YHC 5 Q of the week and 2nd AO VQ. Also YHC was happy to see “The Murph” was completed last week so it open the door to use Twin Team today. Having traveled to this AO on several occasions, YHC had ever been on Twin Team and you can’t come to this AO without using it. YHC has to say that this is one of the hardest hills in all of F3RVA.

Glad to have all the SOJ regulars out this morning and congrats to Ollivander who is attending his 4th Spit Q of the week!

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Marmaduke is still collecting coats. Up to 96 now. Let’s get him to 100!
