  • Time to check out the new sidewalk

6 men arose from the slumber to ward off a case of Mundays and to log a few miles.  YHC wanted to test out the new sidewalk on the southside of Robious Rd.  The plan was as follows:

Left out of BWES and circle around by JRHS to Robious Rd.  Right on the Northside sidewalk heading West and first right into River Downs North.  Loop around (with a slight left near the park and a left onto Lennox Forest) back to Robious Rd and across to the Southside.  Then the fun begins…first right, first left, first right  to get onto Post Mill Drive (easy peasy, right?  Sorry for not clarifying which Post Mill).  Follow Post Mill Drive around and up a short but steep climb to River Downs South – 4 milers go left and back to the flag; 5 milers go right, then left at onto Royal Crest and up the roller coaster hill and down the long Queens Grant hill (otherwise knows as Aisle 5 Hill), then right on River Downs South and back to the flag via the new sidewalk.

Here is the 4 mile route:  https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/2248376716

COT, Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • CSAUP is Saturday – see TYA’s pre-blast for details
    • Healing place runs on Saturday – see Swiper
    • Bring your coats and winter clothes out for shelters and get them to Marmaduke

Great running with Rosie as always, especially watching him kick it into that extra gear a few times, including up the roller coaster hill.  We had a few opportunities for flying EHs but those guys were moving.  Rosie could have caught them if he wanted to.

Great to  have Mr. Roper back out after his best Terry Tate office linebacker impression on a tree in Pocahontas State Park.  Way to push.  Hope those ribs are healing.

Have a great Monday and a great week men!

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Variability

Nine folks showed up yesterday to run all kinds of different routes.  One was a Fun New Gal, and didnt have the entire pax to really nail down a name, so she was Christened several names to match all the different routes run by the pax.  If she returns, we will pick one.  Saab joined a few of us at ET’s, which made me want to stay there all day….we almost accomplished that.

A beautiful sunrise greeted us as we crossed Nickle Bridge.  These are the glory days.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Little Breakdancers

9 strong PAX gathered at Hoedown for a perfect 60 degree morning workout.   A Conspiracy sighting was confirmed at 5:26a.  Mr. Holland arrived way early at 5:28a.  Warmup at the Tuckahoe ES flagpole with 25 SSH, 15 IW, 15 HC, 15 Merkins, 15 LBC & 20 plank to Merkin.  Mosey along Forest Ave towards the corner and happen upon a stack of bricks on Silverspring Dr. – line up for American Hammer time, passing the bricks down the PAX line and back.

    NMS:

Anticipation was high today as most of the PAX were expecting this to be Fudd’s last Q in Richmond.  Rumors have been swirling for some time now as to when Fudd would actually be moving.  Now that he has a contract on his house, the rumor mill has picked up in its intensity.  Is he moving next weekend or waiting until next summer?  Is this his last Q in RVA or just his last Dogpile?  No one seemed to get answers that satisfied so instead we went to watch Kubota do 15 burpees with Vinny closely observing.  Time quickly evaporated and 6am was suddenly there, and off we went.

YHC had never done a COP in the Amphitheater, and it did not disappoint.  Swirly is right……there’s nothing quite like hearing the PAX in cadence calling out SSH’s to start out the day.

Fudd’s first F3 workout was on Oct. 2nd at 45MOM……1,472 days ago.  In honor of this being Fudd’s last (?) dogpile Q for a while, the workout theme of 1,472 carried the day.  Both the amphitheater evolution of 1,472’s and the Burpee Lake 1,472’s lasted quite a while so that by the time the PAX started to mosey back towards the flag from Burpee Lake, there was only 10 minutes until 7am.   Just the right amount of time for a quick tunnel of love and bridge of hate on the field.  Fudd made sure the PAX did the tunnel of love “by the book” which involves having each PAX face another man across from them and lock arms, and then assume the squat position.  Each man pairing up down the line in this fashion creates the tunnel that the PAX each takes a turn or two crawling through.  We made it to about the 50 yard line before YHC called an audible because we needed to do a bridge of hate.  Fudd was the first Q to bring the tunnel of love to RVA as well as the Bridge of Hate.  The tunnel of love was a success but the initial BOH was not.  YHC heard many complaints for weeks after that and it has not made another appearance since, until today.    After hearing of F3 Hampton Roads having success recently with the BOH, YHC couldn’t let this opportunity pass to give it another try.  This iteration seemed to proceed with more success, and it was truly hilarious to watch each of the PAX get transported down the line via each of their brothers raised hands while listening to the colorful comments being thrown about.

YHC has been blessed beyond measure to have been a part of F3, mostly because of the friendships he has made but also because of some awesome experiences along the way.  Regardless of whether it happens next week or next summer, Fudd and his family will indeed by leaving the RVA area to settle somewhere else for another adventure.  In recognition of that transition, YHC wanted to leave the PAX with something special to remember him by, other than just the BOH.  So he read his favorite quote of all time to the PAX just prior to the BOM today.  It was spoken by an Indian Chief, Tecumseh, who was a warrior chief of the Shawnee nation:

“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.  Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.  Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.  Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.  Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.  Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place.  Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living.  If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.  Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.  When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.  Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.”

Peace be with you my brothers.

    Fudd out

  • A Royal Hurricane Flush

6 Davillians arrived at New Highland Baptist on the one side of town that had power. The weather was much cooler but as always it was sunny and 70. The SF was planted and the PAX got to work

This is how it went down:

Mosey around the church to allow for any LIFO to show up

    5 Burpees OYO

COP (ALL IC) – SSH, DQ, Helicopters, LBC’s, Split Jacks, Merkins, Arm Circles

    Mosey to the pavilion

    THANG

The “official” F3 workout deck (Spit style Round 2).

Rules: Per the official F3 Workout Deck rules card, the first rule is, THERE ARE NO RULES. Do your own thang!

The way it was play today:

    • Pull a card, perform the exercise and reps = Card # +10; Face Cards 25, Ace 100
    • If a plank exercise is pulled preform that per the card time
    • If a run is pulled the PAX ran down the gravel road then back (or twice for longer distance)
    • Modify if a card that was pulled isn’t one the PAX knows

One person would run a lap around the school while the rest of the PAX completed the exercises pulled from the deck. Switch runners, rinse, and repeat till YHC called time. The PAX was able to completed 3/4th of the deck

    Mosey to the SF

    5 Burpees OYO

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements, Emoji took us out

    MOLESKIN

With all the crazy weather from TS Micheal the night before, YHC wasn’t sure who would show up. Glad to have who we did.

10/12/18 marks YHC’s and his M’s 5th wedding anniversary. To celebrate the PAX completed 5 burpees at the beginning and 5 more for well wishes over the next 5 years

This deck of cards has turned into a solid beatdown. YHC learned that the creators of the deck most really like merkins. In all we pulled at least 6 cards with 5 different styles of merkins for a total of over 100.

  • Cool Air and Rucking

6 made it through the storm and could make it out of their neighborhood to post for a cool autumn morning in the gloom of TwinTeam.  It was especially gloomy in the parking lot since none of the lights were on.  The Q had no power and trees down in the neighborhood and asked YHC to take over.  YHC was happy to fill in since I was on standby yesterday but didn’t get the call.

3 ruckers headed out early for some hills with some extra weight.  The remaining 3 did the following:

Mosey to the bus loop for a warm up then slide over to the blacktop behind the school for 4 corners, prostitute style.

    Corner 1 – 10 Diamond merkins, Run to Corner 2 – 20 Monkey Humpers, back to 1 for 10 Diamonds. Corner 3 – 30 Freddie Mercuries, Corner 4 – 40 Mountain Climbers.

Back to the bus loop for a triple check – Run the loop, Alternating shoulder taps, flutter kicks.

Pass to Tobit – Head to the high school where there are some lights on.  Since they are on, might as well use them.  Light pole 1 – 1 burpee.  1 burpee – Run to light pole 2 – 2 WWII back to 1 for 1 burpee.  1 burpee – 2 WWII – Light Pole 3 – 3 merkins – 2 WWI – 1 burpee.  Continue with 4 American Hammers.  5 Rosalitas.  6 Plank Jacks and finally 7 burpees.  Mosey back to the flag to meet the ruckers (Not Darius’s family).

Numbers/Names/COT – Marmaduke took us out with prayers for those affected by the storm here and throughout its path.

Marmaduke, Wilson and Honeymoon showed up early and hit the roads, including Twin Team with their ruck sacks on.  Honeymoon and Marmaduke are the instigators of this and Wilson is game for anything that doesn’t involve running.  Which is good since that seemed to be the theme of the beatdown today.  Reasonable to small exercise counts with lots of running in between.  Tobit continues to fly around at blazing speeds and Doozy is becoming a consistent SOJer.  He also learned that we really mean it when we say rain or shine.

I hope everyone made it out of the storm without too much damage or trouble.  If you need help, do not hesitate to reach out.  Michael brought plenty of rain, wind and damage but left behind some nice cool air.  Seems like that might be here to stay for at least a week or so.  It was nice to be able to breathe and not be sweating before we start.

Have a great day men, help a neighbor in need if you can.

  • Honking At The Tree Won’t Move It

17 Hurricane Warriors decided to hit the streets post storm.  Temperature was great for running.  Just perfect.

    The Route

North on Commonwealth and east on Monument.  4s turn on Boulevard, 5s on Meadow, and 6s on Harrison heading back south to Grove.  West bound on Grove to the VSF.

    YHC took us out.

    The Moleskin

With rumors of a final Fudd sighting before he heads West, YHC called a Fudd friendly route with only a couple of turns.  Only slightly more complicated than an out and back.  Unfortunately, there was no Fudd.  Saab and YHC took a tour down Fudd’s road on the way to the AO this am to dodge a downed tree and his car was there, but no Fudd today.  Interesting.

The backblast title originates from a motorist who came upon a tree down across Grove in the front of the AO and came to a complete stop and then hit the horn during COT.  Eventually he yielded to the tree and made a prudent detour.

Our thoughts go out to those who did not weather the storm without issue.  Let the Pax know if you need assistance in any way.

  • Never Hurts to have Rosie & Swirly Deployed as Backup

With the remnants of Hurricane Michael promising to clear the summer humidity and bring a cold front for the foreseeable, 28 regulars and 1 FNG enjoyed the last humid morning of 2018 at 45MOMM.

YHC has been experiencing pain since tweaking his back throwing around some kettlebells at SOT last week…and had secured Q backup from both Rosie & Swirly. It was a last minute call, but YHC took the lead and the beatdown went something like this:

Mosey 3/4 of the AO perimeter. treehug Al Gore waiting for 6

COP: 28 SSHs, DQs, Copperhead Squats, Imperial Walkers, Tempo Merkins, Hello Dollies, Crab Cakes

Mosey to tennis courts: Bear Crawl across 4 tennis courts, plank-o-rama, Forward lunge across 4 tennis courts, plank-o-rama, Plank Shoulder Taps in cadence, Polar Bear across 2 tennis courts, Backwards lunge across 2 tennis courts, plank-o-rama

Mosey to main field: 11s Variation – run to 1st tree, perform 1 monkey humper, run back to start, perform 1 burpee, run to 2nd tree, perform 2 monkey humpers, run back to start, perform 1 burpee, repeat-o through all 10 trees

Audible to all run back to starting line

    Traditional 11s: merkins + sshs

Mosey back to flag for 3.5 minutes of Mary: Crunchy Frogs, LBCs, Freddie Mercuries (slowed down), Boxcutters 1 way, Boxcutters the other way, American Hammers

    COT, Olivander took us out

    Naked Moleskin:

It was great returning to 45MOMM after a 6+ month hiatus. Good to see so many familiar faces.

YHC did not explain several exercises effectively (polar bears, boxcutters)…and for that he apologizes. The first set of 11s was also a bit disorganized.

Welcome to Slumlord! Thanks for the excuse to organize a Clown Car from Midlothian, VA!

    Announcements:
