  • Two once again

A PAX of two posted for the last Punisher scheduled during the RVA school year.  Sonny and YHC arrived separately at the AO.  After a warmup with the usual in the southeast corner of the school grounds, we completed a Beast with Carolina Dry Docks, Squats, Freddy Mercuries, Shoulder Taps, Forward Lunges, and Mountain Climbers.  We relocated to the Bus Loop for 13 reps for 13 exercises with Merkins, Side Lunges, Hello Dollys, Wide Grip Merkins, Back Lunges, Rosalitas, Decline Merkins, Step Behind Lunges, Flutter Kicks, Close Grip Merkins, 13 count Squat, Box Cutters, and LBCs.  We finished with some additional Mary and stretching and YHC took us out.

  • Well, it’s not that hot

Not sure where the PAX was running this morning till all were at The Gloom! Gumbo and Crayola present upon arrival with Rosie quickly following. YHC was still smoked after yesterday’s impromptu 1/2 Marathon for Father’s Day!! PAX agreed to Tarrington Loop and 0530 down James River Drive the PAX went.

By the first hill, Rosie and Gumbo took lead with YHC and Crayola caboosing the run!! This morning’s run was all about introducing Crayola to Tarrington and getting an “early morning moral victory.” Rosie and Gumbo blazed ahead with 5 mile route around James River HS and circling back to check on YHC and Crayola= 4 mile route.

YHC has forgotten the streets that we traversed so “Tarrington Loop” sounds good to YHC!

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Annoucements……Puppy Pile this Saturday, July 4 convergence at Tredgar. Rosie and Shakedown are running at 50K in 2 weeks.

NMS-Crayola, it was great to run with you this morning. Just what I needed to shake some stiffness out of my body!! Keep posting and YHC promises that workouts get easier. Great to see you in the gloom right after your virgin workout!

Rosie and Gumbo–way to push this morning. It is always great to see SOJ regulars before the work week begins!!

  • No Idea Who Has The Q

2 Davillians arrived at Atlee this morning to continue their June Challenge with some miles. Since the Q was a no show, YHC to the lead.

YHC headed out down to the trails and through Honey Meadows. Stopping a few times to get in some Merkins and WWII sit-ups for a total of 4 miles

MudFace stayed back a little while to see if No Idea would be a LIFO then heading out on his Ruck. He got in some overtime and covered 3.5 miles

    MOLESKIN

YHC finally made it back out for a morning run in hopes to have some summer tourists present. Non took the call today so a solo run was put into place. Good to have Mudface back after his trip last week. YHC and Mudface did cross path at one point confirming No Idea’s fart sack got him today.

Next Week YHC has the Q as long as 2.0 #2 hasn’t arrived.  Vinny is planning to make a visit in hopes to see others on their summer tour come out as well.

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Old Glory Meets Four Corners

Twelve fart-sack escapees convened at Hoedown for a Slurpee replacement Q.  Actually, there were 9 of us and three tricklers.  Today was not the day to be late to the AO.  Huddle up then off we went, north on Forest to the church parking lot for…

    COP
    SSH – x25
    Burpee – x1
    Russian Soldiers – x20
    Burpee – x2
    Imperial Walkers – x20
    Burpee – x3
    Copperhead Squats – x15
    Burpee – x4
    Don Quixotes – x10
    Burpee – x5

    The Thang
Slide over about 10 feet to start 4 corners with Old Glory exercises at each corner.  The first time through we bear crawled to the first corner, 20 merkins, crab walk to second corner, 20 jump squats, bear crawl to third corner, 10 burpees, crab walk to fourth corner for 20 WWIIs.  Al Gore.

Second round included the same exercises but the distance between the corners increased.  This time it was the perimeter of the parking lot around the church.  Backwards run when you are on the roads and forward run otherwise.  Al Gore.

Third round was all running, same exercises at the corners.  Run out Rock Creek to Baldwin, Baldwin to Stuart Hall, Stuart Hall to Forest, then back to Rock Creek.  Plank-o-rama.

Mosey back to the school via Paris and partner up for a modified catch me if you can.  Partner 1 bear crawls sideways on the incline hill in the parking lot while partner 2 completes 10 merkins then runs to catch up.  Down to the end and back.

Same partners, partner 1 holds 6″ while the other runs the bus loop.  Repeato x3.

Circle up for some quick mary which included American Hammers (x20) and LBCs (x20).

Numbers, names and YHC took us out with some advice that may not pass the HR muster.

    Moleskin
YHC was pinged by Slurpee yesterday indicating he couldn’t take the Q today so YHC stepped in.  YHC has not done an old glory in quite some time but Hoedown is not very conducive for said routine.  Thus the modification with 4 corners of escalating size.

Vinny was very thankful for all the running today as he has been lacking recently.  Also, great to see Sabotage out there for the first time in a while.  Kudos to Ponch who just notched his 4th workout in his first 8 days.  Keep it up!

Celebratory toast of the day goes to Sugar Sock who hit his 100th workout today.  BT had the nerve to ask him how he knew how many times he had posted.  Silly BT.

Great to see the variety of faces today.  Summer challenge is in full effect.

  • Let’s get this done!

YHC, Upchuck, Hardywood spoke at Dogpile about meeting at Off The Books for a quick 3 mile run. EF Hutton was there and Labrat showed up!! The idea was a quick out and back route that allowed for 3 miles run! Being the only SOJ PAX member present, why not run the Mid-Lothian Mine Park.

0530…off we went!! Hardywood, Upchuck, and YHC to lead with EF Hutton and Labrat conversing in the rear. Through the mine trail we ran and into a subdivision. At 1.5 miles, Upchuck knew where he was, so audible called. Instead of out and back, we ran through a subdivision and back to Woolridge. L at Woolridge for approx .4 miles up to Charter Colony and back to Urban Farmhouse. 0630. DONE!!

    Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements (nothing new)!!

    Upchuck took us out!!

NMS-EF Hutton was not following to Sunday Funday!! Quick work which was good because he was laying some heaters!!

Hardywood’s car does not do 50mph with a canoe and kayak on top!!

Happy Father’s Day to all PAX members!! More importantly, keep being awesome dad’s and husband’s!!!!!

Part 2 was awesome….impromptu 1/2 marathon!! way to go Shakedown, Rosie, Upchuck!! Upchuck thank you for pushing YHC at the end of part 2!!

ET ‘s awesome as usual except 0700 is way better for ordering!

  • Father’s Day Trails

3 Field Day victors and 4 other runners hit the trails for a variety of distances on Father’s Day.  YHC and Shakedown launched at 0600 and did the Carillon route and made it back by 0700 to meet up with 5 other dads.  A few, Flatline, Hardywood, and Upchuck?, had already hit OTB to make it a Sunday Double Dip.  Lots of discussion prior to starting about the distance and route.  Let’s get started and figure it out on the way.  Start out on North Bank, all the way to Brown’s Island where Hardywood turned around to make it back for some Father’s Day festivities.  The remaining 6 hit the pipeline to the Flood wall and Buttermilk.  Lab Rat was the only one to make a stop for a dip in the river.

A quick COT and then Flatline, Upchuck and YHC took off for another mile or so to hit some nice round numbers.  Flatline and Upchuck got a half marathon with the Double Dip.  YHC got a little jolt of adrenaline near the end when a tree fell about 10 yards in front of me coming down Pump House Road to the parking lot.  Luckily the dog walking tomato ahead of me and YHC heard and saw it and were able to get out of the way before it hit the ground and powerline.  Vinny was a little worried he would get left behind but he pushed through and realized that no man left behind is the F3 way but especially on the trails.

Thankful to be a father and have a couple of wonderful kids.  Happy Father’s Day men!  Give your kids some extra hugs, give your own father some love, and remember those that have lost their fathers.

  • F3 RVA Field Day 2018

Thirty F3 Elementary School 4th graders showed up for F3 RVA Field Day 2018, and history was made.

    This Year’s Theme: 80’s / 90’s TV Shows/ Music & Games

The bell rang. To much fun to be had. No warm-ups. Count off by 4s and mosey to the Carillon Field. Line up behind team captains Rosie, Handshake, Swirly and Hardywood. Let the games begin:

    Relays – 3 points for 1st / 2 points for 2nd / 1 point for 3rd

Wheelbarrow Derkins – Two PAX members at a time from each team wheelbarrow towards their team cone. Every fifth step, stop and perform a derkin. Repeat to the start/finish line. Switch-a-roo and repeat until each PAX member completes the exercise. Waiting PAX performed Jump Squats

Sack Race – PAX competes in the age old sack race. Out to the cone, out and back. Waiting PAX performed American Hammers

Tunnel of Love – PAX sets up in the tunnel of love (bridge tunnel) while each PAX member, one at a time, Army Crawls through the tunnel. Repeat until each PAX member of a team is across the starting line. (Set a distance that requires each PAX member to Army Crawl at least three times)

Merkins – One at a time, PAX bear crawls to their cone. Performs maximum of 20 merkins. Crabwalks back to the starting line. Repeato until the team finishes a collective 260 merkins.  Waiting PAX performed invisible jump ropes

Out and Back – All together, each PAX member performs 100 single count crab cakes. Run to cone at end of the field (75 or so yards away) then returns to starting line. Switch to 100 single count flutter kicks. Run to cone at the end of the field. Switch to 100 SSHs. Run to cone at end of field. PAX members were allowed to donate extra SSH’s to their teammates.

    Tug-o-War – Semifinals x 2 / Consolation round x 1 / Championship round (worth 5 and 3 points)

Water Balloon Toss – PAX lined up across from each other and tossed on the whistle.

Round 1 – toss and do 10 merkins   Round 2 – toss and do 10 werkins    Round 3 – toss and do 10 knuckle    merkins    Round 4 – toss and do 10 diamond merkins    Round 5 – toss and do 10 wiper merkins. (Add rounds as necessary)

    Mary: Superman

    The PAX took us out

    NMS

The inaugural F3 RVA Field Day went off without a hitch, I think. YHC and Kubota arrived on the scene at 5:05 and made two observations. First, we managed to bring all the supplies needed, not an easy feat. Second, Swirly was already holding down the fort. After field set-up, Kubota and YHC joined Swirly for a pre-battle strategy session. Slowly but surely the PAX arrived.

6:00 circle up and count off by 4s. Teams were pumped to leave school and find out about the mystery that awaited them. After skipping the disclaimer entirely, YHC set the table for the first relay. On the whistle we were off. The pace was fast and furious from the jump.. YHC heard Swirly lodging a merkin count protest at some point. Kubota may have called foul. Who knows. Competitive juices were flowing fully. Team Rosie won round one.

The sack race was an absolute show. Hardywood won’t be stopped. Nothing can contain him, not even a fancy hipster burlap coffee sack. YHC has no idea what was going on down the field, but according to Kubota, we had a spy. Watch out men, someone was hiding in the bushes taking notes. Loose Goose, what did you do? Round 2 also went to team Rosie. The fix was in.

Tunnel of love proved to be a test of will and very little grace. I don’t know about y’all, but YHC’s knees won’t be presentable for a week or two. No TYA shorts for me. Team Swirly said what fix, and took Round 3 going away.

The out and back relay proved to be another battle of will. At some point Gumbo became the jockey, and YHC became the horse. “Go! Vinny! Go! Vinny!” Thanks for riding me hard brother, I needed it. Again, team Rosie took the round.

Tug of War was the highlight of the day, other than perhaps the HUGGS, more on that in a minute. It was Team Hardywood’s time to shine. With Callahan leading the way, it was over before it started. Flashdance had to leave early to set the table for coffeteria, forcing team Handshake to operate down a man. They lobbied YHC and Kubota for an extra man to regain even strength. Nope. This ain’t 4th grade field day. This is F3 RVA Field Day. As Flashdance famously said about an hour later, “sounds like y’all need to suck it up.” And suck it up they did, digging deep, and fighting hard, Team Handshake showed real grit in the consolation round, and won down a man. Way to pull men. T-claps. With minimal effort however, Team Hardwoody took round 5. YHC isn’t even sure his feet were ever on the ground after the first pull. Also, Flatline fully recognized the strength of Team Hardywood and immediately dropped the rope and walked off the course. Your team may not have known that. Now they do. Love you brother, your shirt was fantastic!

Team Hardywood also posted nicely in this battle at water balloon-loo. With a former DI VMI athlete on our side, it was over before it started. Not sure who took 3rd, but Team HW took 1 and 2. Yeah Boooooy!

Back to the flag for Mary. YHC figured there was only one way to close out F3 RVA Field Day 2018. Super Man!

Since not everything can be about Old Milwaukee and some crab legs, YHC served HUGGS post-battle, to which Upchuck commented that the expiration date must be May 5, 1987. YHC sure hopes so.

Great shirts men. Way to bring out your inner child, even more than normal.

Welcome FNGs Baby Spice, Borat and Crayola. Love you.

Major T-claps to my captains, Hardywood, and Kubota for doing work. Kubota, you are a true team player. Can’t thank you enough.

Finally, congratulations to Team Rosie (ABBA, Fudd, Rosie, Spit, Sabotage, Shakedown and Flatline) on winning the Ghost Flag. Y’all figure out who gets it and let us know when we’ll see it next. It was a good flag. Mostly house broken. Nano region Richmond Proper set y’all up right. Take good care of it.

    -Vinny, out!

  • School’s Out

Four dedicated scholars arrived at Twin Team to celebrate the end of the school year. YHC took the PAX through the academic journey of a K-12 education in just 45 minutes – here’s how it went:

Mosey around the track to the playground. COP (SSH, DQ, helo, IW, hand-release merkins), then it’s time for class. One of the first lessons of elementary school is, “how to make new friends,” so today’s events were mostly partner exercises. First up: 5 pullups, followed by 15 derkins atop the back of your planking friend. Three rounds through, then mosey over to the parking lot at James River HS.

PAX was disappointed that there was no middle school to visit, but YHC assured them they’d smell like a middle schooler by the end, and all was well.

Parking lot: science class in high school was often about counting things, so we counted poles. Partner 1 does WWIIs while Partner 2 touches one pole (switch), followed by two, up to four poles – no repeating allowed, 10 poles in all. PAX had a fairly licentious idea of what constituted a “pole” at times, but we made it nonetheless.

At times in high school, we all got to a point where we felt overwhelmed, and couldn’t make it alone. It was then that we needed a friend the most, one who could ‘carry us’ through…time to mosey over to the track for a lap of partner carry. Whenever a switch happened, partners did six booyah merkins.

Mosey back towards Bettie Weaver, and time for a tribute to the junior class, who have done nearly as much schooling as the graduating class, but with nothing as yet to show for it. 11’s for the 11th graders: squats, bear crawl up the hill, merkins, crawl bear back down.

As time was running short, PAX finished in true 11th grade style: cut corners in order to make that deadline! First the crawl bear turned into a run downhill, then Q removed the parking lot portion of the bear crawl, shortening to the hill alone. Finished just under the wire, in time for dogs & kids.

    MOLESKIN:
It’s been a great school year for this teacher, but I’m glad to see the end of it. Thanks for being such an important part of keeping me fit, sane, and in community!

  • The 2.0 That Lead Us All

6 Davillians that were not participating in the summer tour stormed the ground of New Highland Baptist for a Hot Potato Q (or in this case a 2.0 Takeover).

    This how it went down:

    Spit’s Q

Mosey around the church one lap stopping 8 times to complete 5 merkins

    COP
    • Invisible Jump Rope
    • DQ
    • Imperial Walkers
    • WWII Sit-ups
    • Arm Circles
    Slash’s Q

    Four Corners – 5, 10, 15, then 20 Heels to Heaven

    Mosey to the field

Decline Ladder – 10 WWII Sit-ups, Run across the field, 9 WWII Sit-ups, run back. Rinse and Repeat till down to 1

    Mosey to the Pavilion

Partner Burpees – As partners complete 50 Burpees. One partner works on Burpees with other partner run up and down the gravel road. Switch and repeat.

Mosey back to the parking lot.

4 Corner Escalator – 5 2ct American Hammers and 5 Merkins, increase by 5 at each corner till completing 20/20. Short 10 count rest then repeat going down 20/20, 15/15, 10/10, then 5/5

1 MOM – Merkins (IC) and 10 Heels to Heaven

Polar Bear Tracers – using the side lot bear crawl and complete one Merkin at each parking line (10 total)

    Moesy back to the SF

Ring of Fire – 5 Squats then  1 Burpee

Numerama, Namerama, Announcements, YHC took us out.

    MOLESKIN

This was the first “official” day of summer for the kids in Daville. With that being the case YHC noticing the Q was vacant for today proposed that we make today a 2.0 lead workout. There was no response on FB Messenger other than a thumps up from Pick 2. Well scratch that idea, Plan B normal Hot Potato.

With it being the first day of summer and RAMM special ride, YHC wanted what the numbers would look like. Yard Sale and Emoji pulled in early giving us some good ol pre-workout mumble chatter. Just after 5:25 Spike pulled up with Slash (his 2.0) and our newest PAX member Bulkhead (2nd post). It seemed that Slash was excited about leading some this more. Ok then Plan C!

YHC got things started and passed it Slash who pulled a Swirly and didn’t give it. He crushed it! YHC has never seen the PAX so spent at the end. Slash had the PAX moving non stop.

Glad to have Bulkhead out once again. Hope to see him as regular soon.
