The Easter Bunny hit a couple SOJ houses a day early due to travel plans so two runners hit the streets of OTB to get some early miles in. A loop through the Grove, Mines and Village and 5+ miles. Honeymoon, after nursing a sore calf for a few weeks was back close to full strength and hitting a good pace through the last half of the run. Both of us were hitting the road later in the morning but had enough time before the families arose to get a few miles in.
Hope everyone had a Happy Easter with their families.
With spring break upon us, YHC knew Rosie and Gumbo were not posting. So, would this be YHC first solo Q and work out…..nope. YHC arrived to see Wedding Singer waiting and right on the heels of Lugnut and his 2.0 and FNGal. YHC claimed the Q and explained the route. Up Twin Team and R on Ellesmere. R on Brigstock running to Twin Team. L on Twin Team and back to Betty Weaver=4 mile route. 5 mile route planned for Wedding Singer and YHC if needed. At the end, 4 miles for all 4 PAX members this am. Great work men and young lady! Perfect way to start our Monday.
Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements. YHC took us out!!
NMS-Great to see Wedding Singer this morning. Circle K-chalk up a kill with your tire workout several weeks ago. Singer has been battling a back ailment ever since then! AND, Congratulations to Wedding Singer and his family for the birth of his new son, Sebastian! 2nd 2.0 is 2 1/2 weeks old, healthy, and family is settling in! YHC partnered up with Singer and our run was all about the 2nd F! At Brigstock, YHC and Singer decided on 4 miles and finished with a loop around JRHS.
YHC looped back to pick up Lugnut and FNG as they moseyed down Twin Team. As YHC and Lugnut crossed 711 at the light, we heard shouting from a car. YHC thought, who is pissed at us at 0614 in the am. Aaahhh, it was Singer off to tend to family duties! Awesome to see Lugnut and his 2.0 at River Run before heading back to Highpoint today. Some explanations required for FNG as PAX headed to COT. And DK, in spirit this morning, YHC and Lugnut took approx. 5 minutes to name our FNG. Welcome, Lagoon!! YHC is reminded this morning that 2nd F is equally as important as the other F’s!! Great work Wedding Singer and congrats on your family news!! Lugnut, YHC hopes that one day his 2.0, in college, will post with her dad for a morning run before returning to school. RESPECT!!
Only those who post understand!

Four Batteau regulars, plus one from far away places gathered for a quasi-hot potato workout. Weather was a touch windy, but otherwise pleasant. Lab Rat offered to take the Q, but Vinnie had a plan to try out so we stuck with the hot potato…Sippy jumped in at the end to make it official.
COP- SSH, IW, Helicopters, DQ, arm circles, hand release merkins, LBC.
THANG-
John Merkinroe- 4 corners on the tennis courts, 5 hand wipe merkins?, 15 werkins, 30 merkins, 40 hand release merkins (ouch). Then partner up, 1 partner does tennis court tracers while partner 2 does excercises: WW2 situps, and hello dollies.
Love Hill of Ill Repute: Partner up and run the hill/do exercises while making your way up: Lt Dans, Broad Jump Burpees, and walk out merkins.
Rock planks: Grab a rock and partner up. Partner holds plank with rock on back, other partner does 20 WW2 situps. Switcheroonies.
Pass the baby: everybody on their sixes side by side. Pass the rock from one person to the next and back. Repeato slowly.
NMS-
Lab Rat is off work this week for kids’ spring break so decided to travel this morning. Batteau is a really cool AO that normally is just too dang far to make, but it was an easy decision this morning with no rush to be anywhere until later.
Vinnie has been perusing the exicon, presumably getting ready for a VQ. He wanted a taste this morning, and thoroughly thumped YHC’s arms with a buttload of merkins. The snot wipers…..or whatever they call them….where tough. Also, 40 hand releases brought out the groan machine!
Great way to start the day. Breathe deep and be thankful.
Apology of the week goes to the Forest Hill neighborhood residents. Sorry that I rode around looking like a prowler this morning looking for the AO instead of using a smart phone and actual directions. No harm, no foul though.
Lab Rat apologizes…
Eleven Hoes came out for a special Spring Break edition of Hoedown. The story began as follows.
Mosey up to the blacktop for COP:
Head up to the field for the Beast:
Over to the parking lot with 12 spaces for 11s. Each parking spot represents one progression of 11s with Al Gore in the 12th. Exercises were Copperhead Squats and 4-Count Mountain Climbers.
Make our way to the grassy infield of the horseshoe and partner up. Each partner does 25 PLT and then 8 Boo-Yah merkins. Cycle through three times until there is smoke from fatigue.
Over to the school wall for Triple Check – donkey kicks, flutter kicks, and run the horseshoe.
Head back to grassy infield for Mary – Rosalitas, Hello Dollies, American Hammers.
YHC took us out.
NMS:
Ah, Spring Break. The quiet in the air without the ambience of kid’s preparing for another week in the school. No teacher’s rolling in early nor the Monday milk truck tearing down the horseshoe unloading its precious contents of assorted dairy products. The AO is truly ours.
Spring Break – Time to work on those guns and abs for beach weather, which is where we focused today. Safe travels to the Pax on the road this week.
There was a fair amount of mumble chatter from Saab and about Saab during the COP regarding the usual aspects of his form and so forth. Mumble chatter ended with the Beast and resumed post workout.
Some good discussion about CSAUP. Less than two weeks to go. Time to train or taper depending on the individual. Either way, its coming. Come ready.
Pucker is taking point on the Tuckahoe Party Zone. Are there a couple of others (Plush, Keymaster, Ronnie, Two Can….) who can join Pucker?
Always Be Tapering,
Lockjaw
Following informal polling of Punisher regulars and candidates, we will pilot a shift to an increased run orientation during the warmer months – making loops in the Northside around Linwood Holton Elementary School. YHC completed a solo loop through the Laburnum and Sherwood Park neighborhoods for the last Punisher in March. Will rotate through different routes during the warmer months.
Seven posted for the next to last Gridiron of March, including six regulars and special guest Lip Sync visiting from Wake County, NC. Warmed up with Invisible Jumpropes, DQs, IWs, Arm Circles, Russian Soldiers, and a couple few Burpees.
Moseyed through Pouncey Tract Park to a point near the volleyball courts and completed another round of Burpees. Entered the woods via the trail and alternated Walking Russian Soldiers and Walking Imperial Walkers, switching at each creek crossing. Exited the woods and made a slow mosey around the baseball fields to the path intersection at the side of the tennis courts. Starting there, moseyed following the path headed east around the tennis courts and through the trees to to the trailside manhole cover for 50 x Merkins. Head back trail to the intersection and then north on the other trail to the edge of the woods for 50 x Freddy Mercuries. Return on the trail to the intersection for 50 x Squats. Complete 4 more rounds of this same circuit with 50 reps of different chest, ab, and leg exercises, including Wide Grip Merkins, Close Grip Merkins, Carolina (Wake County) Dry Docks, Scorpion Merkins (alternating legs), Hello Dollys, Box Cutters, Flutter Kicks, and LBCs (150 of these), Side Lunges, Back Lunges, Captain Morgan Squats, and 50 count Air Sit.
Jog back to the parking lot via the wooded trail. COT and Attila took us out.
Nice work fellas. Apologies for the late backblast.
Four posted for the March 19th Punisher. The warmup period was extended a bit as we rolled through some LIFOs. Completed some of the usual startup exercises along with sets of LBCs in between.
Moved to the front parking lot, picked a starting parking space and completed 30 LBCs followed by 5 Merkins and 5 Squats in each parking space heading in the direction of the main lot entrance. Near the western edge of the lot, stopped and completed another LBC round, then worked back completing the same.
Moseyed to the school gym wall for Quadruple Check with People’s Chair, Plank, Flutter Kick, and jog to the Laburnum Avenue sidewalk and back. Jog around to the bus loop for Plank walk sideways for a couple of rounds along with Seated Leg Pull Ins at each stop. Return to the front of the school for Mary and some stretching. COT and YHC took us out.
Apologies for the tardy post. Nice attendance for this one.
Three April Fools, a pup, and a Saab were on the trail this Easter Morning, the first day of the month.
No jokes. Small group today I presume due to vacations and Easter, etc. It was really nice weather to get out and we nearly had the trail to ourselves.
Offshore, EF Hutton, Sally (K9), and YHC decided to cross the bridge and take Buttermilk down to Belle Isle and return on the North Bank.
Some good conversation and a Saab sighting. YHC appreciates the team accommodating his slowness and Sally for always keeping an eye on me to make sure I’m not lagging too far behind.
Short and sweet. Thanks for the run today guys. Have a good rest of your weekend and start your week off well.
32 gloom warriors and 2 FNGs fiercely met the break of day this morning at Dogplie. It appears that Spring has sprung; new guys, Cotters welcomed back (good to have you back Posh), lots of Pax – hopefully today’s turnout is a harbinger of good things to come.
Today was YHC’s virgin Dogpile Q and it went a little something like this:
COP: 25 SSH, 15 Don Quixote (bombed a joking jab at Flatline’s helicopters instead of windmills from No Toll – guess you had to be there ?), 15 Helicopters, 15 Russian Soldiers, 15 Coplerhead squats, 10 2 count Merkins, Wilson’s wife, Fudd’s wife, knees to elbows, lots of mumble chatter, done
Micro mosey to the top of the irregular quadrilateral (Wilson said it is decidedly not a triangle – he called it a rectangle but that’s not quite right either) for The Cooper: run a lap then back to the circle for 10 Burpees, 10 squats, 10 Merkins – run a lap then decrease exercises by 1, repeat on down to 1. This was what YHC thought was a good way to handle the volume of men but it went a little long so when most of the guys were done we scooped the six to move on to the next…
Form 2 lines for weaving Indian Run to the bottom of Love Hill. Cluster. However it served the intended purpose of transportation to the mission objective while keeping the Pax generally together.
Grab a guy roughly your size for partner carries to the stone steps. Go as long as you can then switch. Transition is 5 Booya Merkins. Audible to scoop the six. We were running out of time.
No time for the planned pull-up / burpee 11’s at the Rusty Cage so straight to the amphitheater…
Box jumps to the top. 1 on first step, 1 on second. 2 on third, 2 on fourth – on up to 9/9 – regroup – mosey to the flag. Good times.
No time for Mary so numberama, namerama, 2 FNG’s – nice. Welcome woodworking FNG Rob Baker (Gepetto) and acountant FNG Bill Davis (Beansie). Lots of dissent and discussion including the realization that YHC is apparently not appropriately familiar with the required F3 film canon and hasn’t seen Caddyshack since he was an adolescent and had a vcr. No regrets but I will remedy and revisit that cinematic classic soon.
Anouncments – final weeks of Healing Place 10k training. CSAUP is coming so plan accordingly.
YHC took us out with St Francis’ peace prayer.
Thanks guys for letting me lead this morning. Happy Easter.
