  • You go that way and I’ll go this way

3 Davillians climbed out of their fart sacks on a warmer but rainy Monday morning for another addition of the Tomato.

This is how it when down:

    ROUTES

YHC headed in an nontraditional way to the front of the schools, down into Honey Meadow, hit the access road to Kings Charter, headed to the front of Kings Charter, across Atlee Station down the sidewalk into Chickahominy Oak and through Summer Duck subdivisions. Back across Atlee Station to front of schools for 4 miles. Completed some parking lot sprints to get in another 1/2 mile.

Mudface and No Idea headed the traditional way down the Atlee HS service road and in/out of Honey Meadows to get in about 3 miles

    MOLESKIN

YHC arrived around 5:25 to find Mudface already waiting. The two of us talked a bit about how NO Idea “said” he would be showing up early around 5:10. Mudface who originally planned not to show up that earlier did. At 5:30, No Idea still was no where to be found. YHC headed out but was advise later that No Idea finally showed up around 5:35.

Trails were closed another week for Mudface and No Idea. Hopefully we will get a non-rainy Monday soon.

YHC had to shorten his run today due to some sore knees but enjoyed getting some sprints in at the end.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hope to see some others out soon now that the weather is warming up. Keep EHing fellas!

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Missed Text

YHC missed an early morning bailout text canceling the other half of the planned participation in the Off The Books run.  YHC showed up early anyway with a new route option in mind.  The new route took me into Salisbury and some old haunting grounds.  Looking forward to showing that one off soon.

OTB will be on most weekends leading up to the CSAUP for those SOJ or anyone that wants to get started earlier.  Check with YHC or Honeymoon to verify.

    Have a great week.

  • Ticket for 4 on the Rollercoaster

4 River Run regulars purchased tickets for the River Downs Rollercoaster and started the morning by destroying some hills SOJ…after LugNut nicely moved his vehicle to clear space for the concerned bus driver…

Route was around the loop by the high school, right on Robious Road (on the walking path), take a left and cross over onto Riverdowns South, 2nd left onto Queens Grant Drive – up the killer hill – right on Royal Crest and down the hill to Gumbo’s house (or into Cross Creek for an extra mile if you are Rosie and you have a rocket strapped to your feet).  Then the worst part – turn around and return up the shorter, steeper hill and then down the long hill and back around by the high school to the Flag.

5 miles for Flatline and Gumbo; 6 for Rosie and 4+ for LugNut.  Way to work men.  Great run.  There will be more rollercoasters in the River Run rotation coming up.

COT – number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • CSAUP – sign up, commit, train… I’m looking at you Wilson

    NMS:

Rosie took off like a bat out of hell and left Flatline to drag YHC’s sorry but up and down the Rollercoaster.  It was great to run with Flatline this morning and great to see him in the gloom this whole week and especially after what I know was a draining day yesterday.  RESPECT!!

LugNut, as usual, did his thing and logged the miles.  Way to work LugNut.

    See you in the gloom.

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Just a Walk in the Dog Park

12 redwoods and a FNG showed up for perfect beat down weather.  As typical for Hoedown, it was dark and a little rainy, but 70 and sunny when we started.

Commence with 6/10ths of a mile run around to Dogwood Park.  Chase the owl away, scan for dogpiles, and a quick disclaimer as well as welcome FNG Jim.

    COP

    • Don Quixote
    • Helicopters
    • Arm Circles
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Invisible Jumprope

    Dora

    • Partner 1 – 100 Monkey Humpers, 200 LBC, 300 Flutter Kicks
    • Partner 2 – Bear Crawl up the hill and come down the hill anyway you want as long as not on two legs.

Lindsays in the playground – Derkins off of the benches/toys and American Hammers.

Those with headlights illuminated safe passage across the creek as none of the Pax fell in the water nor fell on the rocks.  This puts us out at the bottom of Lindsay Court.  Partner up.

    • Partner 1 run 4-5 driveways up and back.
    • Partner 2 does standing broad jump up the hill.  Reverso
    • Repeat with Lunges and Russian Soldiers to the top of the hill.

Mosey over to VSF for Mary:

    • Hello Dollies
    • One Legged APDs (sounds redundant, right?) – left leg and then right leg
    • Rosalitas

    Quick ring of fire.

    Honey Do took us out.

    NMS:

It was great to have a FNG out today.  The Tuckahoe nano-region was pretty nice with the names today.  Plush lives directly across the street from the AO, which is a good way to continue to join us or have to listen to us in the early morning hours outside his house.  We hope to see him out again soon.

So it turns out it wasn’t just one owl in the park.  It sounded like several.  While YHC was doing LBCs, I thought about how easy a target we would be for an owl attack.  They were certainly vocal and wanted their park back.  Perhaps Saab can tell us about his owl encounter sometime.

Nothing much to report on Lindsay other than an overwhelming smell of fruit loops in front of one drive way.  Either we stumbled across a hidden stash of the fine cereal or something else.  After consulting google, Sassafras produces a strong smell similar to fruit loops.  Now we know.

We returned to the AO and came across a refreshed Keymaster.  It was as if he was impervious to the effects of the workout and it showed in the ring of fire and mary.  #showupontimeorbeleftbehind

CSAUP is upon us.  Still not to late to join a team.

    ABT,

    Lockjaw

  • Breaking Bread and BBQ

YHC along with Oyster and Spike visited the Medical Respite this evening and had a bit of fellowship and faith with some of the less fortunate among us in RVA.  There were eight wonderful people there that we blessed and fed a meal of BBQ (beef and pork), coleslaw, baked beans, rolls, dessert and beverages.  Everyone enjoyed themselves and we had great conversations with them.  YHC’s 2.0 asked him if he could go help, but due to age restrictions, he could not.  I’m just glad that my 5 year old son knew that I was going to help feed some people that have been down on their luck and that maybe one day he would do the same.  It was also nice that most of our nano-regions were represented tonight!  If you have not helped with this program before, please be sure to volunteer.  The Q sheet is blank for the next few months, so please be sure to sign up.  You will not regret doing this!!

    Thanks!

  • A humid February morning

7 studs posted on a gloomy Sunday morning for a trail run.  Route was buttermilk to forrest hill and back.  Upchuck and Shakedown opted for to go back on the north bank, logging 10 miles. Saab started around 545 and battled the fog and heat…

  • Saab on the MTA

Six, maybe seven (Saab, Sight-un-Seen), hombres herded onto the trails together for this week’s version of Sunday Funday.  The RTD ran the following story:

    Route:

South Bank to Reedy Creek.  Pick up Bootleg, who was on the service road.  Continue on Forest Hill Loop.

7 milers re-trace steps on South Bank.

10 milers head east to New Bridge, then back on North Bank.

    NMS:

Good mumble chatter all around today.  YHC signed a non-disclosure agreement, so see the PAX for details.

Sugar Sock continues to make strong progress.  Dropping 25 lbs. in 7 months or so is no joke.  Well done.

Always good to catch up with the regulars…Hardywood, TYA, Shakedown (thanks for your advice while running 10 today).

Nice to pick-up Bootleg along the way.

YHC does wonder about Saab.  Two weeks in a row that the Saab-Mobile has been parked in roughly the same spot at the Pump House lot…no Saab in sight.  YHC wonders whether anyone has seen Saab since last Sunday.

Did he ever return?  No, he never returned?  Is his fate still unlearned?  What a pity.  He may run forever on the trails of Richmond…he’s the man who never returned.

And, someone may have stolen his car between 7 and 9 a.m. today.

    Or, maybe he returned.

YHC apologizes to The Kingston Trio.

YHC also apologizes to Lab Rat for taking his thing of apologizing.

    Announcements:

Lots of good stuff coming up.  Each Saturday until the Monument Avenue 10k there will continue to be a need for volunteers to help with The Healing Place’s Training Team.  4 miles this Saturday.  The PAX have shown up strong so far…come out and run with the group.   Kudos to Lab Rat for Q-ing the Healing Place warm-up yesterday.

Make sure to pat TYA on the back this week…he’s trying to cram in the last few long training runs prior to Saturday’s 100 miler.  Swirly, Saab, and Circle K round out the support team.

    Bel Monte March 10.

CSAUP in April.  Anyone looking for a team?  Lockjaw, Honeydo, Swirly, and some PAX from the Southside all bringing folks together.  Miss anyone?

Welcome back Earthworm!  Good to have our brother back with the PAX shaking off some rust.  White Deer and Johnsonville were present in all of their glory.  White Deer’s mouth never stopped moving, while Johnsonville motor never stopped.  He beat down his lower body with burpees and 2x squats, and then pushed his arms with 55 jerkins.  He also did high volume LBCs for the Dora (with ease).  Solid work J-ville.  Actions speak louder than words.  Thank me for the soreness later.  Finally, Byproduct is the textbook example of how to do a jerkin.  Instructional video to come.  It was Mona Lisa meat noble warrior!.

God is good all the time!

    NMS:

YHC understood this AM that Kubota had revealed a “cone preview” via twitter last night. Spit said to “bring it”, while Wilson apparently was going to opt to Fartsack….. YHC then received an email from Splinter (Swirly copied) that we would likely have an F3 brother visiting from North Carolina… Being that this was to be YHC’s first Dogpile Q, the nerves started to slowly creep in. YHC could only imagine in his own mind that one of the F3 founders would be showing up.  Managed to get to sleep, however, YHC awoke at 4:30 a.m. instead of 5 a.m. without a chance of falling back to sleep.

The PAX was lively as usual upon arrival, then 6 a.m., BOOM time to roll….It was a blast Q’ing Dogpile today, thanks for all of the encouragement and assistance along the way. Welcome to FOUR FNG’s, credit to Hitchhiker for some major headlocking!

YHC would like to sincerely thank the PAX for your recent thoughts and prayers concerning something my family just went through. I am very grateful for the support, friendships, and many other things I get out of F3.

Thanks for letting me lead, have a great weekend boys!!

  • Rain and Rainbows

14 strong ventured out to help YHC with his VQ at the Creek.  It went down like this.

    Mosey around the church

    COP-7 reps each, IC

SSH     arm circles (small, big and reverso)      Helix squats       Imperial Walkers      LBC’s          Helicopters     Don Quixotes

Mosey to picnic table pavilion for Proper Dora

    100 sets:   1 Split Jack        2  2-count Mountain Climbers       3 LBC’s

The PAX crushed this so went into Derkins and Dips, start at 7 reps and work down.

Mosey back to the SH, did a little stretching, and YHC took us out.

    NMS

This was YHC’s first time Q’ing The Creek, and couldn’t come up with a theme, so asked his 2.0’s for help.  Rainbow suggested “unicorns and rainbows,” and after a search came up with nothing numerical etc. about unicorns, YHC decided that a rainbow having 7 colors would be it.  YHC knows—-very inspiring.  The PAX was very happy this was the number when it came to the Derkins/Dips combo, as 10 might have been fatal after the Dora.  Also very glad the rain had stopped prior to commencement, as YHC is really sick of rain.

Thanks for allowing YHC to lead and try out a new Q, will definitely be back.  Big salute to all the 2.0’s for their work this morning, and to the PAX for the assist when YHC forgot an exercise name (this may become YHC’s trademark).
