    MOLESKIN

It was great to get in the first Q at DaVille in the new year. YHC arrived at 5:20 to an empty parking lot. While planting the SF, Emoji pulled in. Viral decided to make the trip up for SOJ to join us this morning, missed the turn into Atlee since he was following the address listed on the website which shows the MS as the AO. Hey Corporate can we get this fixed?

During 11’s it was asked why it was called Bernie Sanders. After the 2 set there were no more questions. The PAX was “feeling the burn” by the end.

The Carpenter henceforth will be know as Crab Man. Like a flash he came out of nowhere to front of the PAX while crab walking nearly taking out Hutton on his way.

Glad to have some visitors from other nano regions this morning. Viral making his first trip to DaVille and E. F. Hutton making his return. Happy to have you guys this morning.

Glad to have Pick 2 back from his trip and Helix back from illness!!

  • MLK Day Run

Three PAX of varying speeds joined up in the gloom at River Run to enjoy the freezing cold weather.

The thang: OG Run – into Tarrington back up to Robious, across road and down Twin Team. Circle back to pick up the six. YHC did 4.5 total, Rosie a little more, Lug a little less.

Good catching up with Rosie, who eventually left YHC in the dust on the long climb to the top. Was a little chilly at the start, 15 degrees or so. Keep up the good work PAX.

CSAUP April 13th. Everyone is a buzzing with this as the word is getting out, should be a great time.

See Honeydo for details on being a coach for the Healing Place Monument Ave 10K training team.

It was an honor to lead this group this morning.  It was very cool to see frozen fog falling this morning.  I won’t touch where the Pink on the Inside comment came from, with this group i’m sure you all will figure out the context.  Hats off to Flatline for waking up for an abbreviated post, way to get in what you could brotha!  Also great to see Big Blue back down at No Toll.  YHC had a great time running with Gumbo and DK, great convo as always, and appreciate Gumbo pointing out that Flipper smoked right past us, way to push Flip Dog!  Lastly, way to lead the sprints Rosie and Tobit, there was a third up there but YHC couldn’t see that far so I apologize, but strong work by all!  Make it great day gents!

  • If Fudd understands and you don’t… what does that say about you?

Twelve Spiderlings gathered by the commons to witness a series of perfectly clear instructions.  The majority were able to follow (including Fudd), were you?

    Route
There was a basic 4 mile loop with two offshoots, each one adding an additional mile.  4 miler loop included navigating out the south entrance, towards the bridge, right on Westham Station, up south ridge, across to Westham, right on Baldwin, right on Wood, left on Lakewood and back to the start via a pass by the baseball field.

5 milers were <<supposed>> to add on Ross.  Half-way up S. Ridge instructions were to take a left and go to the bottom of the hill and come back up.  Only 29% of the 5 milers followed directions, the others followed Lab Rat?

Six milers first took a right on Old Bridge then right on Hillside.  Up to River and back down.  Then also do the Ross hill.

    Moleskin
Fudd reveled in the clear directions this morning.  Hitting every turn (1) correctly.  Others need some self reflection on this realization.

Marv inexplicably consumed mexican, wine and Stella Artois last night and thought that would go well on his run this AM.  Saab forgot his banana which will likely screw up his entire day.

Great to see Sugar Sock on his first Spider Run jaunt.  Don’t be discouraged by your fellow runner’s inability to listen to instructions.  There are some good routes around UR.  Complicated but good.

    Announcements
    – Double dip opportunity for the CSAUP for those that want to run the monument 10k.  Run your 2 legs early and be primed for the run up and down monument

    Splinter out

  • There are things out here

A PAX of one reported this morning for a cold run. 3.5 miles were done with a large dog sighting that almost initiated a mid run pants change requirement.

See you all in the gloom

  • Three Bean Salad

Following another satisfying Friday evening thread of text messages amongst old guys (but most not yet worthy of Respect), seven posted for Saturday’s GridIron under comparatively (compared to last week) balmy conditions.  YHC pulled a cinder block out of the yard and a kettlebell out of the basement and placed these on the pavement without a firm idea of how we’d use them for the morning.

At 7 AM sharp, we started with Invisible Jump Ropes, Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, and Arm Circles.  We then strolled to the nearby playground with one guy holding the cinder block high, another guy hoisting the kettlebell and doing whatever, and the other guys starting with Walking Imperial Walkers – completing 5 with a two count and then jogging to the guys carrying anchor.  We traded off weights and kept moving until we reached the playground.  We took turns completing 5 x Jerkins (on our own), 5 x Shoulder Presses with the cinder block, and 5 x Upright Rows with the kettlebell.  One round involved 5 sets of Jerkins and one each of the other exercises.  We did another full round with an underhand Jerkin (not as bad as it sounds).

We hit the pine straw under the nearby pine trees for 5 minutes of Burpees that included 5 Merkins within each Burpee.  Targeted 5 Burpees per minute, or 125 Merkins over 5 minutes.

We began another team stroll over to the school’s covered bus area.  We traded off block and bell carries while starting with 5 x two count Lunge Walks, then jog to the guys carrying anchor.  Continued Lunge Walks until all had carried each weight once, then started another round with Walking Imperial Walkers.  Upon arrival at the bus shelter, we shifted to the nearby grass and completed another round of 5 minutes of Burpees with the Merkins.

We moved to the bus shelter to complete 10 x Pole Smokers, along with 10 x Lat Pullovers with the bell and 10 x Curls with the block, until all have rounds with both weights.  We completed a second round of with 10 x Box Cutters, along with 10 x Skull Splitters and 10 second Straight Arm Block Hold.  We moved back to the grass for our final round of 5 minutes of Burpees with Merkins.

We worked our way back to the start with the block and bell stroll, initially with 5 second Bear Crawls until all have carried the weights, then Walking Imperial Walkers until we reached the parking lot.  We circled up for a quick few rounds of Ring of Fire involving rotating 5 second Straight Arm Holds of the cinder block and kettlebell.  We stayed in position for COT and Attila took us out.

Nice work fellas.  Byproduct kept up his near perfect winter attendance and flashed the Marionette during warm ups – or the Russian Soldier, but with lifting the arm and leg on the same side.  Attila reported (several different meanings) that it was Kombucha Friday at the Hun house the evening before.  Cecil sporting the Peru home jersey as his second layer.

    Get better Earthworm.

  • Backwhisper

Two posted for the after-snow, rainy Punisher last week.  YHC met Nightcrawler in the Holton parking lot and we did a short mosey to the Laburnum-facing school yard for a COP with Invisible Jump Ropes, Imperial Walkers, Don Quixotes, Russian Soldiers, and Arm Circles.

We moved to the covered porch outside the school gym for LBCs x 200 and APDs x 100.  We then began a jog through the Laburnum Park neighborhood stopping near the beginning and end of the grassy median strips along our route for 15 x various chest/arm exercises (including Merkins, Wide Grip Merkins, and Carolina Dry Docks) and/or 15 x various leg exercises (including Squats and Forward Lunges).  We completed a loop east down Laburnum, right on Gloucester, right on Palmyra, and right on Hermitage Road back to LHES.  We finished with another round of LBCs and APDs followed by a little stretching.

Quick C(?)OT and YHC took us out.

  • The Cat Burglar Returns

Five warriors rose to greet the dawn of a new day.  With the forecast for 70 and sunny, the air was ripe for success.  According to legend, it went a little something like this.

Bear Pawtastic Dora – Exercises are 50 burpees, 100 merkins, 150 squats, 200 SSH. While one partner exercises the other partner bear crawls uphill to the first light post then runs back down.

B.A.R. Crawl (Burpee Animal Run ) – Native American run setup.  Pax does exercise up the Hill of Ill Repute.  The last pax does a burpee and runs to the front.  Exercises were lunges, bear crawl, revers bear crawl, lunges, bear crawl to top.

A flu free Up Chuck took us out.

    NMS:

It was nice and chilly to start the week off.  No fear, YHC and Honey Do kept the knees bare.  The pole smokers and box cutters gave us at least two opportunities to observe shooting stars.  Always a sight of wonder no matter how old you are or how many times you see one.

Mumble chatter through the COP centered around Marv’s dream about Fudd.  Yes, Fudd.  In this dream Fudd is the Q and as the Pax completes an exercise, Fudd would evangelically shout “Glory to God!”.  Eventually, the Pax turn on Fudd and beat him down mercilessly.  Marv takes Fudd to the hospital.  (Marv, did I get this right?)

There is certainly some dream analysis to be explored…..

Starbucks provided great 2nd F for about half of the Pax.  Coffee and great conversation post workout makes the day!

I will leave you to comment on that dream sequence.  Someone in the Pax clearly has some insight here.

    ABT,

    Lockjaw

  • Pick your own distance

10 determined woke up and decided to hit the trails this morning.

4 Routes were run. 1. Northbank to T.Pottersfield to buttermilk and back to pump house, 2) Northbank to Belle Isle to buttermilk and back to pump house 3) 1+ add Forest Hill loop 4) 2x route 1.  Whistleblower took us out (thanks to YHC for giving her absolutely not prewiring).

A little chilly this morning, but the PAX is totally used to the cold temperatures.  Really the only place that it totally sucks is coming across the Nickel bridge.  As the morning got later, the wind got heavier and those running longer got rocked coming over that bridge.

Great to have upchuck back at the Sunday runs…he has been battling the flu for a couple of weeks and is finally well enough to hit the trails.  Bootleg hit the trails for the first time with the PAX.  Offshore volunteered to take him on a 4 mile jaunt.  When the majority of the PAX finished the first loop, no sign of Bootleg or Offshore. TYA and Labrat ran the same route the second time around so we could find them on the way back.  Upchuck texted that they arrived back at the pump house shortly after lab rat and YHC left for our second loop.  The had completed route two, just under seven miles.  Great job by Bootleg on his first trip out with us.
