  • Dispatch from the wilderness

YHC posted for The Punisher solo.  Nightcrawler and Sonny each sent messages before post time indicating unexpected obligations with Ms and or 2.0s.  The notice was appreciated.  YHC took a run through Ginter Park that consumed the 45 minutes, mixing in some Merkins and Squats along the way and completing some Burpees in the parking lot adjacent to Zacharias Ganey.  COT including silent namerama and numberama and took myself out.

Sticking to the evening time slot.  Send your Night Owl neighbors.  Do your Merkins.

  • 400 merkins divided by two is 200 per day

20 men came out to see if we could really go 45 minutes and do ZERO merkins.  The short answer is….well no.  Lab Rat kept his end of the deal though, and none were on the Weinke.   And now, for the rest of the story:

    -Modified parking lot tracers

-COP: SSH, IW, DQ, Arm Circles, 5 burpees OYO (while yes, it does contain a merkin, it is actually not a merkin.  The 5 do count towards the challenge though, so your welcome.), LBC’s

-Human Steeplechase:  In teams of ten each, leap frog down the soccer fields jumping over each pax member to the other side.  Al Gore for the six.  Going back, go under each pax to the other end.  Al Gore for the six.  One last time, alternating over/under to the end.  You guessed it, Al Gore for the six.

-Big Ass Lindsay:  Around the block stopping at each corner for ascending/descending exercises:  Monkey Humpers (Marv) and Russian Twists (Goldberg).  Start/finish at Cary and Commonwealth.

    Mary:  Freddie Mercury’s and Rosalita’s

    NMS:

-You know what the worst part of Q’ing is for YHC?  When people start making fun of the Q and I cant be in on it because I have to call cadence!  A rowdy COP this morning that Lab Rat would totally have loved to be in on…and I missed most of what was said….bummer.

-Much groaning was heard during the Human Steeplechase….which is funny, because I personally LOVE this routine.  Rarely do I get to make it all the way thru because it takes so frigging long to complete.  We did this first this morning to make sure we got thru all three rounds.

-The term “Steeplechase” comes from the origination in Ireland, where the races would be run from church steeple to church steeple across the natural and man made landscape.  Just a fun fact.

-Marv was up near DaVille for some VCU business last night, so Lab Rat, Toro and M went up to drop in on him.  We started kicking around some merkin-less ideas and he threw out the monkey humpers idea.  Lindsays was a perfect way to work them in.  Sunday when you are still feeling those, please think of him.

Upon completion of the Lindsays while in plank, many pax members started doing merkins.  OK, reverse plank it is!  Now all you can do is dips.  YHC did his best, but people are going to do what they are going to do.  Of course, it was a joke saying that no merkins done during 45 MOM would count for the challenge.  Lighten up, people!

Sugar Sock in the dark looks like a very buff Doner Kebalb.  That’s all.

Flashdance needs a recommendation on a weather app that will recommend workout attire.  I think he was wearing mittens and galoshes.

Announcements:  Be thinking of how the men of F3 can serve our community next year.  Breaking Bread, Sportables, food banks?  What can we do that will draw out the pax in order to serve?  Contact Lab Rat with your ideas.

Apology of the Week goes out to the poor soul in your family has to clean out the nasty showers from the steeplechase.  For that, I sincerely apologize.  #Gross

YHC hates to run. He would rather have a root canal done with a rusty fork by an angry badger with incontinence than run farther than it takes to get to the flag at the end of the workout. So the looks of shock and surprise when a run was called were interesting and got even better when the realization of what was about to be done. This was the quietest Q that I have ever been to.

The graduation walk was to celebrate No Idea finally getting a KB that doesn’t have PLAYSCHOOL stamped across it. This might become a tradition at the MANNDate.

A discussion broke out on what the German word for sadist was. The PAX was little help, apparently all the German words that we know are beer and food related. Helix the word you were looking for was schadenfreude

    Thanks for letting me lead

  • Pre blast Wed Night Run

This evenings run will be @ 5:30 @ the pump house – 7 mile trail loop!

  • Holy Merkins Batman!

13 brave men attacked WDOG in the gloom and here is how it went down.

COP: Regular Merkins, Right leg high merkins, Left leg high merkins, fist merkins

Curb crawl : start on curb  5 decline merkins –  bearcrawl to next curb 5 incline merkins crawl bear back repeat 3 times.

Field: On the end line run backwards to the middle of the field – 5 merkins – sprint back to the start 5 merkins – repeat 3 times.

Indian run merkin style : runner at the end goes to the front once he reaches front pax stops and does 2 merkins

    Ring of Fire : 2 rounds  10 fist merkins – 10 regular merkins – 1 round  10 regular merkins all together .

The story: If you have not guessed it yet YHC was wanting to make sure the pax knew that today was the start of the November Merkin Challenge!  YHC also wanted to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to get off to a good start and it seems we certainly did that by completing 400 merkins – well done guys ! Although there seemed to be lot’s of complaining – grumbling – calls and pleads for side straddle hops – there was not much mumble chatter as the pax locked in on banging out some merkins this morning.  Those of you that are only doing the breathing challenge this month – my apologies 🙂 but you did know this was a Swirly Q!

Speaking of challenges allow me to clarify the rules of an F3 RVA challenge. When a member of the pax puts out a challenge for the group it is obviously open to everyone – you choose to participate however if you choose to participate you must complete the minimum # on the challenge or increase the number you are not to sign up and write in less than the standard unless you are injured – recovering from an injury or have special permission/consideration from corporate. (if you want to do an independent challenge with your own number or exercise  – go for it) but an all out pax challenge has a standard minimum # which if you sign up for is your goal unless you would like to increase it . These challenges are there to push us and I encourage everyone to participate and push yourself while involved in some friendly competition . Example : YHC may consider the breathing challenge – cause( you don;t just participate in the challenges you are good at) – if that were the case YHC would not be doing this 100k in a month Labrat  – boom !

All this is to say – keep pushing yourselves fella’s – a great way to continue to do this is continue to come to F3 everyday because when you do –  you will be inspired / encouraged by those men around you that give it their all everyday, and this will allow you to accomplish things you did not imagine you could.  I’m so proud/blessed  to be part of this group of amazing men – you each inspire me in some way all the time – I am grateful for that and for your friendship.  Way to bang out some freaken merkins today !

Whether it’s merkins, breathing, running, reading, time with the family – whatever – challenge yourself – dig deep and make it happen put the effort in – (Growth does not happen by chance) and if you desire to be a winner – know this – Winners don;t sleep when they are tired – Winners sleep when they are done!

    Swirly out!

  • S-T-A-C-H-E

7 fearless men, including 1 FNG, broke free from the fartsack, shook off the post-Halloween cobwebs and posted to SOT to start off No Shave November (or MOvember) right with a little themed beatdown.  YHC’s back was not cooperating but we pushed through….literally.  This is how it went down:

Mosey to the front of the school for COP (all IC), including:

    • Merkins x15
    • SSHs x20
    • SLOW DQs x10
    • Imperial Walkers x15
    • LBCs x20
    • Merkins x10

Mosey to the basketball courts to begin our theme – S-T-A-C-H-E

    S = Suicides

3 rounds of suicides – regular, backward and side shuffle

    T = Tammy Wynette

Partner up and together complete 200 merkins and 200 squats as follows – 1 partner is doing merkins while the other is doing squats.  Partner doing the squats calls the tempo cadence for both (3 counts going down and up on the 4th count).  After 10 reps switch.  After each partner has completed 10 merkins and 10 squats – that is 1 round.  Complete 10 rounds so each person completed individually 100 merkins and 100 squats.

    A = Alabama Prom Dates

Just as the name suggests – complete 20 in cadence

    C – Curb Crawls

Mosey over to the side of the school and use the curb of the bus loop for curb crawls – bear crawl forward to the opposite curb and perform 1 incline merkin; crawl bear back and do 2 decline merkins.  Up to 5 and back down to 1 (25 total merkins – 175 for the day for those keeping count).

    H = Howling Monkeys

Circle up on the sidewalk and grab your ankles and pass around the monkey humpers Ring of Fire style – 10 and pass (howl after #10 optional but all PAX members indulged).  2 rounds around the circle and the dogs were BARKING!

E = Elevens (Merkins (of course) and 2-count Freddy Mercuries)

Customary round of elevens, performing the merkins at one end of the sidewalk and the FMs at the other end by the big tree.  Run in between. (55 Merkins – up to 230 total)

Mosey back to the Flag for 20 merkins OYO for good measure and a cool 250 for the day.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    NMS:

It was a great start to the monthly merkin challenge and a kickoff for the various folks taking a month long shave vacation.  Great to have Cerrano (FNG – Colin) out today and way to push through the merkin-heavy workout.  Cerrano is another New Market guy so the Emerging Nano Region of New Market keeps growing.  He has some Cleveland ties – thus the name.  Jobu was a solid second choice.

Get those merkins in fells (and don’t forget to breathe)

    No more Gumbo for you

  • The Nightmare of Old Glory

Image result for f3 old glory

11 Davillians arose from there fart sack not knowing that Old Glory was awaiting them. The SF was briefly  planted while mumble chatter was had prior to 5:30.

This is how it went down:

    THANG

YHC yelled “let’s mosey”, grabbed the SF, and headed down the sidewalk in front of the HS and MS; across the MS parking lot to the gravel track. One loop around the track, headed to back of the MS and 3/4 the way around the bus loop to complete the 1 mile warm up.  Plant the Flag and Al Gore for the six.

YHC explained the exercises as this was the first OG for several folks. Timer was set for 20 minutes and OG was completed around the bus loop (about 1/4 mile lap) with 20 merkins at the SF, 20 Squats at corner 2, 20 Burpees at corner 3, and 20 WWII sit ups at corner 4. A two minute warning was give so the PAX could give it AYC till the end.

When time was called all PAX returned to the SF. YHC gave instructions for the PAX to return the same way they came to complete the 1 mile victory lap back to the HS parking lot. The PAX return by means of “Catch me if you can”. Quaker grab the SF was instructed to “push the pace”. If anyone wanted to take the lead they must take the SF from Quaker.

2 MOM with LBC’s and Freddie Mercury’s before YHC had noticed the six hadn’t return so all PAX mosey back to grab the six.

Numberrama, Namerama, and Emoji took us out.

    MOLESKIN

The Q sheet had remained vacant until noon yesterday when YHC remember that Old Glory hadn’t been completed at DaVille since April. A message was posted on FB messenger that YHC would be taking the Q but if another PAX member wanted it then to take it. No takes so the plan was put into place.

OG has become one YHC favorite workouts since it was first introduced to him by TYA only a month or so after starting F3. Happy to have several others participate in it for the first time

Grabber lead the PAX with 4.75 laps completed. YHC just behind with 4.5 follow by Spike, Emoji at around 4.25. Total mileage will vary for folks from 3 – 3.3 miles.  Well done fellas!

Shout out goes to LP. I don’t know many 9 year old’s that would be up for this challenge and crush it the way he did!

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Fall Classic Tribute – 2017 Style

A hearty 17 posted to NoToll for what will be a familiar sight at NoToll and SOT for the month of November…a Gumbo Q,  YHC planted the flag and off we went moseying to the back parking lot for COP, including:

    • 5 Burpees OYO for each of Alex Bregman’s (LSU product!) 5 World Series RBI, including the epic game-winning RBI with 2-outs in the 10th inning off arguably the best closer in baseball…BOO-YAH!
    • SSHs x25 for the number of runs scored in the aforementioned epic Game 5 that spanned Sunday into Monday and is YHC’s excuse for not posting at River Run – I should have just stayed up.
    • DQs x 10 S-L-O-W
    • Helicopters x15
    • Imperial Walkers x15
    • Tempo Merkins x10
    • LBCs x20

    Pre-Game Warmups

Mosey to edge of the parking lot and form up in 4 lines for some customary baseball warm-ups:

    • Sprints the length of the parking lot – starting of course like you are leading off first-base and stealing second (or so I’m told). Wait for six and then head back.
    • High Knees down and then back
    • Karaoke down and then back

    Game 6 Relay

Break into two teams – Astros (8 men) and Dodgers (9 men – a handicap since they are down 3-2 in the series).  Each team form a plank line in the corner of the parking lot.  First man in line sprints the perimeter of the parking lot back to the back of the plank line and next man takes off when first returns…so on through the line.  The Dodgers damn near won the relay despite the extra man as POSH was breathing down YHC’s neck the whole way around the parking lot.  Good thing YHC held off or else a decisive Game 7 Relay would have been needed to award the World Series (of F3 NoToll Relays) Trophy.

    HR Box Jumps

Mosey over to the Pavilion for YHC’s favorite box jumps.  In honor of the record-setting 22 home runs that the Astros and Dodgers have already hit in this years Fall Classic, each PAX member found some bench and performed 4 rounds (one for each base) of 22 box jumps.  A 10-count plank breather between sets was offered up for those that wanted it.

    Epic Game of Box Cutters

Pair off and together as a team perform 315 box cutters Dora Style – equal to the total number of minutes it took to play Game 5.  One PAX member runs the width of the field and back while the other performs box cutters – flapjack and repeato until you reach 315.

    Cooldown Mary

Mosey back to the basketball court for 5 MOM, including Freddie Mercuries, APDs, Flutter Kicks and 5 more Burpees OYO.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out

    Announcements:

    • November is breathing month and Merkin month – sign up and participate in the monthly challenges.
    • November 11 is the Hampton Roads 1-year Convergence.  Some guys are talking about heading down to reclaim the Ghost Flag….coordinate.
    • November 12 – Men’s 4-miler in C-ville.

    NMS:

A great group out at NoToll this morning.  A lively bunch with lots of encouragement during the Relay, though it quieted down a bit when the box jumps and box cutters came to town.  Kudos to the Dodgers team for smoking the relay and nearly overcoming the extra-man deficit.  I for one have NEVER seen Flashdance move that fast – way to push it brother.  Thankfully, YHC didn’t blow the save like the actual closers for the Astros seem to like to do, but I tell you I felt condensation on my neck from POSH’s breathe.  Good times!

I hope everyone has a safe, fun and happy Halloween!

Until next time…No More Gumbo for You!

  • Shakedown goes down

A strong 15 plus one canine partook in this Halloween edition of Spider Run.  YHC arrived to a group of fine men gathering at the commons.  When TYA announced that Splinter had the Q a noticeable groan was observed from Wedding Singer.  I’ll remember that groan next time.  This time the route was an oldie but goodie.  Mount Henrico.

    The Route
    – Meander towards College and left on College
    – Right on Lakewood
    – Right on Wood
    – Left on Baldwin
    – Cross Westham, staying on Baldwin, left on Rock Creek
    – Quick left on Forest then right on University
    – 4 and 6 milers do the Arlington circle loop.  4 milers return the way you came.
    – 5 and 6 milers continue on University to Glendale and take a right
    – Immediate left on to Julian
    – To the top of the mountain, returning the way you came, admiring the esteemed Castle of Robinson on the way

Numbers, Names, BT took us out.

    Moleskin
YHCs Spider Run reputation must be strong.  May have been record numbers for the hills around UR.  Singer apparently loves hill repeats and was disappointed when YHC announced Mount Henrico.  Saab on the other hand was smiling like a school boy.

We have done this route at least 5-6 times so YHC was surprised that with 15 people + a canine that there were few that actually knew the route. Bleeder said he had it but luckily a Tuckahoe native in Taxi Cab helped him along the way.  At least he was able to provide a detailed inspection of the outbuildings @ Marv’s future house.  Swirly still can’t find Glendale and worked his way up to the moontower instead.  BT is getting a few kegs there this weekend since his party got busted.

Dutch running with Kenya is a sight.  That bitch can flat out run.

Glad to see Lab Rat effectively found his way to the AO.  TClaps for assisting Shakedown on the way back after he stumbled on the well lit streets of Westham.  Hopefully the ankle recovers soon.

Pair running was the theme of the day.  Lots of 2 by 2 traversing the streets.  Except TYA who was so excited YHC could’t event get out “Henrico” before he was off to the races.  Must still be burning off some aggression from attending two Boston sporting events this weekend.  The picture above is how YHC imagines TYA in a triathlon.

The weather is absolutely perfect for running these days.  Reflective gear is still necessary for another week.  Glad to see that Singer and Pucker have joined the miniature size reflective vest crew with YHC and Sippy.  May be a takeover in the works.

Always fun gentlemen.  Love running those hills.

    Announcements
    – November Challenges galore.  Breathe if you must.
