  • Fart Symphony at the Pavilion

SIXTEEN HIMs were not deterred by the cold and rainy forecast, choosing instead to jump aboard the NTB beatdown bus. The following is based on real events:

Hot Start – 1 burpee in honor of baby Zoe’s first birthday today. Then off for a mosey to the soccer fields. Stopped at the bridge to pay the toll despite Snuff’s protest.

    Warmarama

    • One lap around the right field skipping and frolicking for a dynamic warm up. Then we circled up in the middle for a disclaimer and a variety of IC movements.

    COP #1 – Kilo-Dora

    • 100 Merkins/200 Squats/300 LBCs/400 SSHs
    • Bernie to sideline and jog back/squat walk to right end of pavilion and back/squat walk to left end of pavilion and back/jog to sideline and Bernie back to the center.

COP #2 – Jack Webb (Ab Edition)

    • Movement A: Box Cutters (1-10 reps)
    • Movement B: Flutter Kicks (4-40 reps)
    • Try to keep feet off the ground the whole time. YHC could not keep his feet off the ground…
    • With 16 PAX huddled under the pavilion a symphony of farts erupted through the early morning air.

IP run back to the flag where we spent the few remaining minutes with half a round of license plate roulette. Kudos to snip for the surprise 17 burpees at the end.

    COT

    • New AOs Bon Iron and Huge Bells are being added to the Q Sheet and Map.
    • Ramp Build project happening this week. See slack for details.
    • Welcome Cotton Tail to RVA, moving here from Greensboro.
    • Reminder to give F3 away! It’s not a club it’s a mission, and sometimes a cult. Invite someone new this week.

  • Pull Ups For One

YHC was flying solo this morning, but got in some needed Pull Ups.

EMOM Pull-ups, Dips, and Jerkins, changing grips, and doing some negatives.

  • Just Another Kettlebell Q

To quote noted literary icon Snoopy: “It was a dark and stormy [morning].” But the less than ideal weather didn’t scare away 6 men from getting after a kettle bell workout at The Old Hundred.

The Workout: After a brief mosey and some warmups in the parking lot we hit the bus lot for the main event – Elevens. At the start we engaged a compound move consisting of a deadlifts, squats, and upright rows in a single motion; at the other end we performed the humble merkin. After completing the Eleven we returned to the parking lot and split our time alternating between exercises called out by the Pax and lunging between parking spaces. Safe to say, the exercises were varied and involved dumbbells. Ended with a ring of fire.

COT: Check slack for announcements regarding Chili and dancing. Prayers for Hermie’s wife and Jamaica.

This was my first time leading a kettlebell Q, and I picked it up with less than 12 hours notice. Thank you for enduring the chilly morning and my half baked workout. Its an honor to learn from you fine gentlemen everyday!

  • Not Just Four Corners, All The Corners

It was a cool, damp morning in the gloom in the Bermuda Triangle. The chance of rain managed to keep the soft commits in the fart sack, but there were 2 PAX that knew that it doesn’t rain in The Bermuda Triangle.

The clock struck 530, and the PAX were off for a mosey around Ecoff Elementary, about a half mile, then into the standard warmarama complete with Nancy Kerrigan’s, Ukrainian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, and LBCs.

1st COP Merkin Burnout Four Corners Prostitute Style

12 Merkins at each corner (Or to Failure)

    1st corner Standard Merkins

    2nd corner Wide Merkins

    3rd corner Ranger Merkins

    4th corner Diamond Merkins

Wow! That’s a lot of Merkins, even only doing a max of 12 reps per set. Ends up being 16 sets.

2nd COP Legs Galore Standard Four Corners

1st corner Goblet Squats with Cindy

2nd corner 10 Bulgarian Split Squats per leg

3rd corner 30 double count Lunges

    2nd corner 20 LBCs

    3rd corner 30 Penguins

4th corner 40 Plank Jacks (They’re done in Plank, so they’re an Ab exercise, right?)

The Four Corners might just be YHC’s favorite COP, especially Prostitute Style!

Great to have Doolittle there working shoulder to shoulder with YHC.

    Lots to Pray for!

  • DR at Terminus

In solidarity with YHC’s 2.0, who posted at Heartbreak this morning, YHC posted at Terminus in Atlanta. Another Proud Dad day!

TBR works at Chik fil a and had visited VCU’s location recently. He was very impressed with RVA, including the trail system. YHC hopes he posts next time!

  • Krav Maga tomorrow

13 Heartbreakers showed up to either see if Gomer was going to set a record for the fewest steps in a workout (alas not today) -or- how many APDs were practiced last night (YHC worked hip rotations after). According to the shadow Krav Maga fighter that Gomer scared off (he said he’s coming tomorrow), this is what went down more or less.

Gitty up start: 8 Burpees. Mosey to the first circle for the CoP. Welcome. Mission. Disclaimer.

Attila took us out. Prayers for those seeking jobs, working through challenges, health for PAX and family members.

NMS – Whitesnake was out so YHC had to jump on a Q. YHC was especially motivated by Gold Digger counting the “right way”. This workout is a lot on chest and shoulders but we need more as we age to over power the Dad belly.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

    Get some!

  • Celebratory Crash Landing

Somewhere along the line this BB was deleted. Recreating for continuity. Happened before School of Rock.

  • Was that Oval Ohs?

Twelve accomplished gentlemen fought off the allure of a warm fartsack for today’s drizzling edition of Spider Run. Even though there were complaints offered on Slack last night, directions were spot on so off we went.

    The Route

    • 4s: Refuted impeccable instructions and went across the bridge and back
    • 5s: Up along the lake by the baseball field
    • Across the parking lot to College
    • Right on Campus
    • Left then hard left on West Bostwick to the parking lot and back
    • Up Bostwick proper back to Campus
    • Left then hard left on Old Mill to the end and back
    • Up Old Mill proper back to Campus
    • Cross Campus to Towana to Roselawn up to Campus
    • Back Roselawn to a left on Ridgeway
    • Left on Fairway and left on Tapoan to Three Chopt
    • 6s added a little more
    • Everyone else BTTVSF

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Moleskine

After a few weeks of flatter routes, YHC was feeling spicy. With no one on the Q sheet after coming home from volleyball last night, YHC conjured up a perfect route for this morning.

Lots of great mumblechatter amongst the 5s group. A particular highlight was Bodo’s recollection of his most recent concert, The Oh Hellos. Everyone else heard the Oval Ohs, which was close but not accurate. Either way, worth a listen!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Splinter out.

  • Waiting for Handshake

Upchuck said he was coming. Look, he said, there he is. He pointed to a vehicle pulling into the bus parking area at St. Christopher’s.

The vehicle made a U and pulled away.

I do not believe you, I said. Did not Faceplant’s Slack post imply that Handshake was Qing elsewhere this morning, torturing others with his accursed, Apple Watch alarm-inducing Pencil Rolls?

Look, Upchuck said, pointing into the Gloom. Here he comes now, walking with Faceplant.

Silly man, I said, that is not Handshake; can you not see that is Applesauce?

Wait, Upchuck said. He will come. I have even brought spare Implements of Whoa for him to use in strengthening his already prodigious muscles.

At 0530, we performed a set of exercises in the manner of Tabata. We ran a lap on the track.

    Handshake did not come.

We performed a second set of exercises in the manner of Tabata, this time using our Implements. Applesauce borrowed the Implements intended for Handshake. We ran another lap.

    Handshake did not come.

We performed a third set of exercises in the manner of Tabata. We ran another lap.

    Handshake did not come.

Surely, I said, Handshake will not come now. Even Hitchhiker would not show up this late to a workout.

We performed a fourth, fifth and sixth set of exercises in the manner of Tabata. We ran four more laps around the track. Faceplant engaged in jocular discourse with a husband-and-wife pair of runners. He told disjointed story about Handshake being a first-year student at the Virginia Military Institute. We spoke of colleges with simulated airplane cabins and steakhouse dining halls on their campus.

    And then it was over.

    Shall we go, said Upchuck.

    Yes, I said. Let’s go.

    We went.

  • Bark!

Three HIMs hit the gloom this morning and knocked out just over 3 miles. The mumblechatter was strong the whole way. Beaver’s getting back into the groove and heads into his first day back at work since the baby arrived. Dexter’s touring a new school for his little girl. YHC is grinding at work but grateful to be doing it local. Solid morning of miles and fellowship! Also waking up every dog in the neighborhood!

    Don’t waste the day!
