Missed out on the RVA Labor Day Convergence sadly, but posted down range with 7 F3 Grandstrand HIMs at AO – Sharknado. Houdini lead the group in a good mix of running and exercises to get in about 2 miles and plenty of merkins, squats, big boy sit ups and a few others. Coffee after…appreciate the southern hospitality fellas. Until next time!

Labor Day Convergence
On this Labor Day morning, while the rest of RVA snoozed away in holiday slumber, 48 HIMs of F3RVA laced up, rose to the challenge, and clocked in for a true labor of love. Under the glow of the dawn, YHC had crafted a beatdown worthy of the day—a gritty, sweat-soaked symphony of effort and determination. Because what better way to honor Labor Day than by putting in some serious work?
Mosey to the Carillon basin. A few SOJers know my style and were on the lookout for a pile of coupons stashed away somewhere for us to “find”. When we arrived at our AO for the day, “There it is” could be heard…Circle up, F3 mission and creedo, and a light warmup to get the heart going.
Everyone grab a coupon of choice. The veteran move today was to grab the smaller of the blocks. Circle up and get ready for Kool-Aid (Extra Sugar). According to the Carillon’s security cameras, here’s what took place.
800 meter run around the devil’s triangle
20 Flutter Kicks holding the coupon
20 WWIII’s
20 Squat Thrusters400 meter run through the field
20 Manmakers
20 Bicep Curls
20 Bent Over Rows400 meter run up Carillon steps and around a random light post
20 Kettlebell Swings
20 Squats
20 Calf RaisesSeries of exercises performed by those opting out of the runs. I don’t know what they were doing, but it had to be excellent as they were poaching runners throughout the workout.
60 second rest (must be an SOJ thing…)
Same workout, but now in reverse! Mumble chatter called for creativity and LBCs(!?) but when we got to Manmakers all mumble chatter ceased and there was peace in the kingdom…Another veteran move was deployed and a block was broken – no extras = savvy!

RFK Jr. Thinks Social Security Causes Autism
8985 of F3’s veterans formed up at the oldest continually operating F3 Sunday workout in Virginia. Temperatures were sunny and 70 and generally incredible. According to theMarathon Training Teamtalented runnersjerkish mountain bikersgood lookin’ lady running with her dogjogger who clapped for us on the loop today, the following might have happened:54 guys ranNorthSouth Bank (watchfixed the hole in the bridge!) toT. PottersfieldBelle Isle Bridgeeither T. Pottersfield Bridge orBelle Isle BridgeForest Hill Park toButtermilkNorSouth Bank (skipoh, yeah, we did the lariat twice). About6.57.7 miles, or so says YHC’s Apple Watch(feels not quite that long). One guy plus Gloom rucked a loop.
2 1 guys rode from Elwood Thompson’s. Rumor has it…45+ to Ashland 50 miles and back. Yeah, baby. Impact.1guy ran 10 OYO on roads.Numbers, names, and YHC took us out. Remember, it’s Sunday Funday, so the COT is thorough and throughout.
If you show up for coffeeteria, YHC counts you in the workout, unless the workout was go-carting last night.NMS: exceptional morning to chat and run with
ShakedownOffshore, Shakedown, Sippy Cup, and Helix. Excellent discussion with Salt Lick over coffee. Solid way to spend the morning assessing our fitness, our faith (in many things…each other, society, a higher being, the benefits of scientific learning, and the oddity of those few Christians who oppose scientific learnings), and fellowship (never a lonely or dull moment building friendships). So, yes, F3 does have regularly scheduled Sunday workouts…always has. If that’s new, time to educate yourself (and YHC would encourage you not to take someone else’s word for it…come out and meet some men whose friendship will be new to you…Sundays, 07:00, Pump House parking lot).
Announcements (literally the same as the last 3 weeks):
Reminder: Being a HIM is about doing things for others, not yourself. Third F is not about church or religion – it’s about doing something bigger than yourself (if this sounds unfamiliar to you, make sure to read “Freed to Lead”). Help in the community. Volunteer. Put your time and effort into making other people better. Can you do that reading a book? Sure, though it’s most likely that helps you. And, let’s be honest…if something was written in Aramaic, how literal can the meaning be, unless you speak Aramaic? (Fun fact: YHC’s counsin does speak Aramaic.)
F3RVA has multiple opportunities that are 3rd F focused – doing things that are bigger than yourself. Breaking Bread brings meals to people who are struggling. Healing Place leads men and women struggling with addiction down a path to better health through exercise (sound familiar?). The Bridge helps men fighting the habit of committing low level crimes by giving them structure, role models, a profession, and hope.
Each of us has limited time to give. With all the challenges of being a man in your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, etc., what can you offer to others that is designed to put that person in a better place?
Doing the same Backblast
2 3 45 weeks in a row is super efficient. This is the way to do it. -
half marathon training in full effect
4 runners are getting serious about half training. 2 did 11+ today and 2 did 6.75. Slow and steady baby. Still time for anyone wanting to get in on this to join. We will help you ramp up.
4 walkers solved all the world’s problems and identified others, as usual.
Come for the walk/run. Stay for the coffee.

Bermuda Mornings
Four HIM’s took the morning by storm and kicked up some dust. We also broke in a new FNG “Al Bundy”.
