  • Ruck on Steroids

3 of SOJ’s finest fought off the gloom this morning to embrace the day in all of its glory. Two rallied in front of Hermie’s house while YHC pressed snooze one to many times so had to catch up on the long back 9.
Nonetheless 3 miles and hundreds and topics were covered. One was the topic of the motivation on taking anabolic steroids when well past your prime. PAX concluded it would be the same motivation as someone who buys an expensive sports car.

    SYITG!

  • FNG

3 runnahs including an FNG and 2 ruckahs came out to move around in the sauna for a bit.

    runnahs did a 4 on, 1 off

    ruckahs rucked.

    no one got hurt.

    Welcome Bam!!

  • Eight Greats

Eight great men emerged from the gloom for a sweaty smack down around M.M.E.S. on the last day of July. Fun fact: July is named after Julius Caesar. More on that in a minute.

    -Warm up

    -Merkin, Derkin, Dip

-Parking lot punishment. Bear crawls, lunges, and plenty of pain.

    -Pull ups sprinkled in

    -100 yard dash x2

    -Mary

Prayers for dads’ health today, Hitchhiker’s and Applesauce’s.

Julius Caesar got a month named after him, but the other J.C. (Jesus Christ) is the fulcrum of all time on earth, B.C. and A.D. He’s worth following.

  • Plenty of Coffee for the Regulars

The non-tour stop/tour stop at Circus Maximus.  One visitor and 13 regulars took a tour of GHS.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • DMH
      • HRM
      • LBC
      • Tour of Godwin, KB style – multiple stops with 5, then 10, then 15, then 20 reps of an exercise; adding/dropping a new exercise at each stop
        • 50 lawnmower pulls, each arm
        • 50 upright rows
        • 50 tricep presses
        • 50 curls
        • 50 KB FK
        • 50 sit ‘n presses
        • 50 KB presses

        • 30 weighted lunges, right leg
        • 15 weighted lunges, left leg
      • COT with YHC taking us out

I guess the PAX was weary of a KB workout as the only visitor was the NAMTAM himself, Rosie.  I guess that is the greater PAX’s loss. Plenty of coffee for the regulars.  Plenty of time under weight for all.

Plenty  of activity and prayer requests.  Continue to pray for Fudd’s sister Mary, Senior Frog’s father-in-law, Fireman Ed, Roger Roger, and Charlotte (Handshake’s wife’s cousin’s daughter).

God is good all of the time!

  • And-1 Tour

7 HIMs put on some baggy shorts and high tops and hit the blacktop for some knockout and 3v4. According to the shirtless and chiseled man running the track at 5am, here’s what happened…

Mosey around the school and back to the courts, circled up gave F3 message and did a series of stretches to stretch the ligaments.

started off with a game of knockout. If knocked out go do a suicide on other court, 5 SSH each time you reach the baseline. If game is still going when finished, hop back in. After a series of returning players, we upped it to 20 SSH. Classic game, Swoop prevailed.

next 3v4 half court. 3 man team held their own but fell 5-3. Round of merkins for everyone.

next mixed up teams and did 3v4 full court. Skip to my Lou Swoop had a bunch of fast break points. Hot Sauce Rudy hit some big shots out there. Professor Warby put that low center of gravity to work with some nice handles. Escalade Matlock showed how performance enhancing drugs can improve a mid range jumper. Helicopter Flyboy had a memorable 3 that’s still in the air somewhere. Bone Collector Teddy KGB owned the paint on both sides of the court. Main Event Crabgrass needs some chicken to go with his Shake N’ Bake. Team with 4 prevailed but everyone was a winner today as we had a great time and shared some laughs along the way.

Battlers Rudy and Warby. Fandango has relinquished his 4 point lead and it’s any man’s game for Boys of Summer trophy!

  • Ruckhenge 073025

7 gathered for the latest edition of RH. Waited for a straggler, then hit the streets today. A challenge was thrown out to increase usual rucking weight by 5-10% this week in an attempt to shift from a place of comfort. Goal was to cover some decent distance as well, with hills and variable activities (Bernies on hills & Farmers Carry’s) thrown in. Solid job by the pax who covered 3.5 miles in 1:02:21. Our chapter this week focused on the Greeks and the rise and fall of their empire. As always some great discussion cropped up. Thanks for joining today!

    Announcements:

    • Homegrown half on the horizon with multiple options including ruck. details on start etc forthcoming.
    • September overnight ruck – hit up Crabgrass for details
    • New routine at Timberwolf starting in September

  • WDog Revival

Five, yes five! gentlemen of the gloom met in the darkness to prove the depths of their manliness at the best AO in RVA. After some quick introductions, we were off. Here’s what happened:

COP in the bottom of the amphitheater. Deadman hang/ helicopters / DQs/ Imperial Walkers / Ukranian Soldiers/ Copperhead Squats / LBCs/ HRMs/ Elbow Planks/ Picklepounders

Up the Steps: At each of the 18 amphitheater steps, starting at the bottom moving up, perform 3 Dips, 1 Box Jump, 1 full imperial Squat Walker. Mosey to the Carillon

Dora: 100 Merkins / 200 LBCs / 300 SSHs. Partner runs up the Carillon steps, around the back, down the other side. Mosey to the Rusty Cage

Ab + Bar work: the Pax performs an ab excercise together while each man takes turn running to the bars to perform 5 reps of an excercise, returns back to the pax and sends the next man. Round 1: Jerkins, Round 2: Pull ups, Round 3: Burpee-Ups.

Mosey back to the flag for Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Awesome to have 2 fresh HIMS at WDog today, Blank Space and Stonk! It just about constituted a WDog Revival. Sounds like they may be regulars, so come out out to the Dog if you haven’t been in a while. Prayers for Hitch as he heads up to the Korean Embassy today to do some legal work for his family. He’s under a lot of stress!

Congrats to Hutton on 2000 posts!

    Peace to all- SYITG.

  • [Titan]Nashville Hot!

Ole Beaver is back on the road! This time in Nashville TN on Music Row and by golly was it hot this week(by a country mile some would say). Run a country mile from hotel to AO. 13 F3 studs emerged from the gloom to have Copycat Q a 2 round decathlon around Centennial Park. We also had a young man passing by our workout we invited in and so he did! Turns out he just came in from Kenya yesterday, now known as Raddish. I met Wolfpack – claims he’s been to Timberwolf, visits his sister in RVA. Spinal Tap says hi to SaltLick, not the first time I’ve heard Spinal Taps name. Run a country mile back to the hotel.

Moleskin – reach out to a close relative or friend you haven’t spoke with in quite sometime.

  • Stand By Me

4 Respect warriors took to the gloom last Sunday morning to launch on a quest. Not for a dead kid down the tracks but to see where things went. We did not have to deal with Ace and his gang along the way but there was some strange looks from passerby’s at a road crossing. In all 3 miles in 55 minutes were covered. Some Pax experienced vertigo due to looking down the entire trip as not to fall on the tracks. One Pax stumbled several times but never went down.
