  • Built Tank Tough

YHC and Broadway took the banana clown truck to Buckingham to pound the pavement with 5 Bridge badasses. As usual – it was an excellent experience with an amazing group of HIMs. If you are looking for a humbling and inspiring experience, come to the Bridge!! These guys pushed it hard, and shared some really amazing personal stories. The mascot pups roaming the grounds sniffed the following beatdown.

    Names, Numbers, Prayers

I cannot say enough how thankful I am to Upchuck, TYA, and Vinny for helping lead this cause. It reminds us all that if not for the grace of God our lives could have ended up differently. And even then, programs like this give men that second shot/helping hand they deserve. Shout out to Broadway for making the long trip with me to help bring some light and motivation to these men. Also shout out to @hardywood, these guys loved their new shoes and put them to good use! Honored to be part of this outreach.

NMS:  After a whirlwind 24-hr YHC made it back from DC after midnight in time to get a few winks before the Dapile Q. Today marked the last AO of the Summer Tour and wouldn’t have missed it for anything, especially with the AWESOME Daville gang. The PAX enjoyed a nice tour of the AO, excellent mumble chatter, and The Local Cup was brewed to perfection for a most excellent coffeerama following. Numbers bumped to 8 for coffee – Wonderful to see Bulkhead up on his feet locked and loaded with his weapon …AHEM pimpin swagger crutch. And also nice to see Surf&Turf come out. “Treat Yourself!” Really appreciated the opportunity to share about the upcoming Missions Trip at PNG. Our BLOG to read about past trips and how to support is www.hendersonsinmissions.blogspot.com Thanks again for the fine hospitality gents. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • The Lost Boat Slips of Tarrington

No runners today – but luckily I always have my ruck loaded and ready to go. 3 distinguished gentlemen hit the surprisingly busy streets of Rockwood Park at 6am sharp. We did the full paved nature trail and approximately 2 laps around the main road. Great conversation that included the Tarrington neighborhood; which inspired the backblast title, as well as alcohol (types and where to consume). We had a quick pace and the sweat was flowing with the high humidity. The PAX made it back in under an hour, just in time for the Boberry/Rubble beat down. As always, it was an honor to lead.

  • Animal control had to be called

6 Savage beasts causing a public hazard. Lucky no one got taken in, by time animal control rolled in boot camp was over. Unfortunately my HC FNG wasn’t a HC, 10 minutes before I went to pick him up fartsackitis set in as well as other excuses. I will continue to work with him.

WARMARAMA: mosey to the the lower parking lot for arm circles, bigger arm circles, and reverso. SSH, Don Qs, Alabama Prom dates, and WW2s. Mosey to the football field.

The THANG: this was the start of the best down. A ladder on the football field 25yd, 50yd, 75yd, and goal post. Started with 10 merkins, then added 10 WW2s, add 10 jump squats, finish with 10 burpees. We had so much fun we did it again to get back across the field. A 10 count some how had a 12 and 30 in there. Move over to the little hill for Bernie up the hill and crawl bear down. Mosey the cow pasture fence. Find a pole and get to work. Turkish getup into a inclined diamond merkin on the pole. 10of those before we find Cindy. A little picnic at the Pavillion tripleset farmer carry to the tree and sprint back for time, chair dips, and oblique lbc and throw in heel taps. Rifle carry Cindy behind the shed. Everyone enjoyed the 12oz curls for the water pit stop. Of to the jungle gym to finish with Dora. 100 jerkins, 200 pickle pounders, 300 ish toe taps on the curb. Next was to make it BTTF without dying.

It was a tough one and the PAX absolute brought the heat. These guys push me to push myself. Now Choo Choo and Beaver need to lock in on the VQ. I’m still learning but you saw how it can be done today. Thanks for coming out.

  • Me versus Me

    Finishing move

Rodeo Clown, Melville, and Chaplain showed up for Morning Wood as I was finishing up.
Been awhile since I did a solo workout. While nothing’s better than working shoulder to shoulder with fellow PAX, it’s good to try some new things without messing with someone else’s workout.
The uneven Depth charge merkins were awful, but not as bad as the Cindy Hoe Downs!

  • goyne for a ruck

A morning hike through the neighborhoods to see if we could EH anyone. The 6 burly men probably scared everyone off because no one was around. There is good potential for members from several of the surrounding neighborhoods. Rucks are good advertisement to draw them in. A good 3 mile trek to gave me time to think about the pain I could deliver for the iron bridge. Thanks for the conversations and company, it was a great way to warm up.

  • House Party is a Runner

YHC and House Party linked up again before Twin Team and hit the streets. I forgot my headlamp and was wearing a black shirt and dark grey shorts. The route took us past JRHS, right on Robious, then turn around at the halfway time mark. We made it back just as the TT Crew was arriving.

If you haven’t noticed – HP has been getting after it on the running front. Keep it up!

  • Warm moist air on the #$%

Life is good. made it to another Curahee BroCode run. The regular cast of characters were in attendance with a few out on a Ghost Flag mission. Was good to have Splinter back in the crew. Gomer was out as well trying to brush off some of the injured knee blues.
There are some places and time that warm moist air is not expected, and Gomer was the recipient of the receiving end of that today. One big 4 mile square of COT. Have to show to know more.

Have to go back to work. Budgets are due by COB today.

  • Weekend At Mummy Bernie’s

8 of SOJ’s finest gathered for the latest rendition of Twin Team. We were greeted with wet pavement, high humidity, and the sweet smell of fresh skunk. Here is a brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

Mosey to the back of BWES for warm-up: Side Straddle Hops, Ukranian Soldiers, Windshield Wipers, Overhead Claps, HR Merkins, Freddy Mercuires, LBC’s, Heels to Heaven.

The PAX proceeded to the baseline and also completed walking lunges, Can Openers, Open the Gate, Butt Kicks.

Exercise One: Indigenous People’s Super Mario Jumps. Couldnt resist bringing this one back from the FORGE a few weeks ago. Everyone Mario Jumps, man in the back does 5 Side Straddle Hops, then runs to the front. We did a lap around the school

Side note: When I said “Woo-Hoo” someone corrected me and said that is actually Yoshi. WTH

Exercise Two: Grab Kettle Bells for a Cumulative 4 Corners
-10 WWII sit ups with lift
-10 WWII sit ups with lift, 20 upright Rows
-10 WWII sit ups with lift, 20 Upright Rows, 30 Lawnmower Pulls
-10 WWII sit ups with left, 20 Upright Rows, 30 Lawnmower Pulls, 40 bench press

Ditch the Kettlebells and mosey to Skunk Corner:

Each PAX calls an ab exercise and Mummy Kicks to the end of the basketball court -run back. The group does that exercise until they return. Repeat until everyone had gone: Pickle Pounders, LBC’s, Oblique LBC’s, Flutter Kicks, American Hammers, Alabama Prom Dates, Cockroaches, I may have missed one.

Mosey to the far side of the school for Exercise 4: DORA with Hand release merkins, squats, and Monkey Humpers.

    BTTF: Numbers/Names/Announcements/Prayer Requests

Final Thoughts: Initially advertised this one as a kettle bell hybrid recovery workout. I would say mission accomplished. Great crew this morning and I enjoyed catching up with everyone.

  • The longest .85 miles ever

11 gents gathered for Futon’s Q, however, other plans were in motion, YHC was coming with the RVA Ghost Flag to steal the Q.

0530 we launched running up the sultry Sultree stopping at a couple spots for a traveling COP. We ran up to W Millington and hung a left and ran until we hit the dead end, this is where the fun started, the arduous journey back. The progressive regressive is always a great way to make distances take longer. We did a 3 step forward, 1 step back, using the mailboxes as our markers. The mailbox in the progressive we did 10 of an exercise, the mailbox in the regressive we did 20 of an exercise. Various Merkins, Ab exercises, squats, SSH’s, etc.

We were running low on time to we went from 3-1 to 2-1 and finally 4-1. We landed back at the parking lot at 6:14 and did a little stretching and finished with 5 Burpees. 2.45 miles covered.

Announcements – Labor Day Convergence at Nuckols Farm Elementary at the new West End AO. 0700. Coffeeteria to be directly after. Family friendly river float Sunday, September 8th. Whitesnake is looking for volunteers to help with drinks/etc. Meatball is coordinating the 10 year convergence Pot Luck, see slack for details. Team Brightside donations for the 10 year convergence, the goal is $60,000 and its currently at $55,000.

Prayer Requests for Katniss/Katniss’ family. Please be praying for them

NMS – YHC was glad to return to Satan’s Hill. YHC always feels welcome. Not too much mumble chatter since we were constantly on the move, but it was good to see Chipper out for the second time this week and TSG for his second post. Chipper said he is going to make M/W/F a routine and he already has 3 commits for next Wednesday at Green Mile. Futon is now in possession of the RVA Ghost Flag, expect to see it make an appearance again in the new future.
