Middle-Aged Dudes, Randomly Assorted
Eight social media stalkers gathered in the adequately paved church parking lot for this week’s iteration of First Watch. After offering appreciation to each for the birthday wishes, we took a left out of the parking lot and commenced our journey. When we passed the back church driveway and kept heading west on River, there was a collective sigh from the PAX.
The Thang
Traveling COP today. Right turn on Gaymont with the first stop at the bottom. Circle up for Helicopters, DQs, IWs.
Mosey up to Kingston for some more COP, then halfway down Kingston for more. Pencil roll by request in the sprinklers to cool off. Work our way to Kingston and Ralston for the first main thang.
Partner up for Dora. 100 merkins, 200 monkey humpers, 300 american hammers. Pace car ran up Ralston to the well lit American flag.
Short set of balance exercises where most of the PAX failed.
Head back up Ralston, stopping near the top for more balance exercises. We will call this warrior 1.5. Once again most of the PAX failed and the man walking nearby likely chuckled.
Right on University to the bottom. Partner up for 11s. Exercises were booya merkins and PLTs. After careful consideration, YHC decided to make this a traveling set of 11s, stopping at various places on the way back to the church to do our sets. Finish up in the parking lot with our last set then 2 minutes of Mary before Handshake called time.
Oh yeah, we saw a Prius so of course we had to do 5 burpees.
Numbers, names, YHC took us out.
Moleskin
Wojo announcing his age made YHC reflect on the fact that it’s been over 9 years with this group and 10 birthday celebrations along the way. The majority of them have started with the camaraderie and fellowship of this random assortment of middle aged men. Today was no different. A Jets fan, someone who shuts down the bar, a radio announcer, a salesman, a financier who barely talks, a carolina fan, someone who always does what his partner says (never more true than today), and a hobbyist woodworker; all convening for no other reason than to make himself a better man. Happy to have the opportunity to lead today and for many years into the future.
As TYA has once said. I bet you’ll quit before I quit.
Splinter out.

And the winner is…
Five men emerged from the gloom in search of bright sunshine and a balmy 70 degrees under which to engage in scholarly analysis of online dating evaluation criteria. After careful deliberation and cases made for evaluating political compatibility, alignment in progress through life’s accomplishments, fiscal responsibility, and accounting for quality of character it was agreed that when it comes down to it, go with the one that’s more physically attractive. Literally never fails. These studs also worked in some exercise during lulls in the debate. That part went like this:
COP: SSH, Helicopter, Dead Man Hang, DQ, IW, Copperhead Squat, Merkin, LBC, APD, Box Cutter all IC
Mosey to the Amphitheater: incrementing dips on each row starting at 1 at the top ending at 18
Amble down to the pipeline: a group of three and a group of two – one group runs the pipe loop while the other does exercises: Exercises were WWII’s, American Hammers, plank
Ascend the hill to the rusty cage: individually perform a cycle of two exercises and run to the hydrant and back: Round1 – 5 pull-ups, 5 jerkins; Round 2 – 5 Jerkins, 5 dips, Round 3 – 5 dips, 5 pull ups
As the rain picked up migrate to the triangle: First round – Bear crawl, 10 carolina dry docks, run down the hill and do 20 WWII’s, run up the hill and do 10 merkins. Second round – lunge, 10 jump squats, down the hill and do 10 double count american hammers, up the hill and do 10 merkins. Third round – lunge, 5 lieutenant Dans, 20 LBCs, up the hill and finish with 10 merkins.
After making sure Mr Rogers had both contact lenses still implanted someplace his head, saunter back to the flag and fill the remaining time with part of a round of 11’s between the light posts: start with 10 squats and 1 SSH. Called when time was reached.
Count off and identify yourself.

21’s are only good in Black jack
Started with the quick mosey to the BBall court.
WARMARAMA: circled up for my introduction. SSH’s, Ukrainian sliders, grass grabbers. Around the perimeter of the basketball court we started on the long side with lunges, then broad jump burpees, Mario hops, finished our lap with bear crawl.
From there we mosied over to the entry way polls for some pole smokers and pole dancers. Quick stroll around the cow pasture to the Pavillion for some dips, incline merkins and decline merkins. At this point someone thought it would be a good idea to call 21’s with burpees and WW2. This was a bad call that I didn’t fully understand at that time. At this point I called a modify to finish off with something different. Did a cool down with Alabama prom dates, flutter kicks, hello dollies, and American Hammers until fail. Went behind the barn with Cindy for a rifle carry through the cow pasture and curled Cindy on the way back. Mosey BTTF for some overhead stretches, arm circles, and various leg stretches.

Final Thoughts: A great effort by all the PAX today and some outstanding mumblechatter. It was great seeing Dorothy back out – rocking that 45 pounder was impressive. Conversely, an unnamed member of the PAX was mocked for having a My Little Pony Kettlebell. That’s how we roll down here in SOJ.

Good to have NTB get back into the fold after work had kept him away for a few weeks. Corn was plentiful and enjoyed by the PAX, including Machismo who is either feeding a family of 20 or generating ethanol for his gas powered vehicles. Thank you gents for the opportunity to lead. Always good being with you guys in the gloom.

Soupy Stretching
A pair of brogii veterans were joined by a rookie for an early morning sweat stretch at the humid courts of No Toll. Shoulders and back were emphasized with some hips and glutes added for good measure. Moved onto legs before finishing with a short but sweet Shavasana. She was thick today but good conversation and times were had by all.
