  • And run, like you’d run from the law

    Darling, let’s run
    Run from it all
We can go like they’re trying to chase us
Go where no one else is, run

Hope you had a great time at the T Swizzle concert, Mr Holland, See you soon!

  • Post Turkey Trout

2 Davillians enjoyed cold temps on a Saturday morning to get in their long run of the week.

Route was the same as last week. Heading out the Atlee parking alot, around the school to Honey Meadows. Take the cut through road to King Charter. Turn around at the 3rd mile inside of Totopotomoy. Head back the same way but take Honey Meadows to the front the school and finished with a loop around the bus loop and the Atlee parking lot. Opus got in close to 6 miles while YHC push for the 10k.

2nd F at the Local Cup afterwards

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • North of the Wall Turkey Trout

2 Davillians got up early on Thanksgiving for the Daville’s Thanksgiving Run.

Route was a typical run around Rutland and Cool Spring Forest for 3.5 miles. Speakeasy got in more (most likely over 5) with the run to the AO and run afterwards

Sorry to miss our other Davillians on Turkey Day!

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Touch the Tree the Way You Would Touch Your Wife

7 wily F3 veterans disposed of the lure of The Fartsack and challenged themselves to meet the new day at the latest edition of The Dogpile. Temperatures remained 70 and sunny. According to the lone runner trotting through the parking lot, the following may have happened:

06:00 – Start with a slow mosey around the Dogpile parking lot, first heading south towards the River, then, accepting feedback from EF Hutton, the Q turned right / west away from the cool breezes likely to be found crossing the bridge. Two more rights had the group on the grass adjacent to our parking area for the COP.

With our Nantan present, YHC felt compelled / encouraged to repeat several disclaimers and informational messages regarding our purpose, the rules / guidelines, and anticipated / encouraged outcomes. Hard to remember the whole thing, so we concluded that, whatever else, there are two exercise principles, which are separate. Push yourself. Make it a challenge for yourself. If you are standing still (literally or figuratively), you are regressing. This group does not regress. It’s you against your ability (rather than you against the next fastest guy). Push yourself. Extend yourself. Yet, don’t feel like breaking your body is the goal. All that said, as brevity has never been YHC’s strong point, some PAX (Handshake, Bodo’s) grew tired / cold / bored, deciding on their own to start SSHs. Gomer grew only more engaged / enraptured. YHC can hold a crowd.

So, with the SSHs in full swing, today’s COP began with…

…anything but SSHs. Let’s do Imperial Walkers, call it 3 of them (4-count). Then, SSHs times 10 (4-count). Then, hillbillies, then SSHs, then, so we could all pay attention to Handshake’s story (which was GREAT and only getting better), we did Dead Man Hang. Walk out the hands into Fuddski, then down to Wilson, then right leg high, then left leg high, then hand release merkins x10. Flip it to WWIIs, some flutter kicks, then some other stuff, and we’re off…

…to touch some trees. What has been promised must be delivered. (Appropriate lack of recall or any foreknowledge of the concept was shown by most PAX. Today’s barriers de excellence were, in no particular order, a) having a prime number of men (7), and b) the concept of having 2 people perform the same exercise simultaneously. Onward. The Q practiced his eyeball rolling.

Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. YHC forgets, but at some point, we decided to touch trees. This is a delicate exercise, done appropriately, in the words of Handshake, “like you touch your wife.” Also, touching Bodo’s car counts. References to the stiffness of the wood abounded. There was also a surprising bang during the event. No pastor’s or their wives were injured in the incident. We finished with a round of burpees.

Mosey to the closer giant circle. Dora 1-2-3. Team up in 2s (or 3s). One man runs to the light post (yeah, the one that is on). Each man does his own count of 50 “worthless” Gomer-Pyle dry docks. Then, the team of 2 or 3 completes the remaining 200 squats and 300, 4-count SSHs. Griping about SSHs abounded.

While catching its breadth, the PAX did 30 of the littlest baby crunches.

Mosey to the top of the Amphitheater. Not Quite Self Destruction. Start with 18 v-ups and 18 incline merkins…then 17, then 16, and so forth. YHC put a governor on both ends, with the Six skipping a step to close the gap and the Zoomer repeating a step for the same purpose. Push yourself. Make it a challenge. Make it hard.

Mosey back to the VSF, ahem, actual shovel flag. Quick ring of fire, 10 merkins of your choice.

Numbers, names, and Handshake took us out.

    Announcements:

YHC is pretty sure there were some announcements. Please add them in the comments.

Grow Ruck coming next year. Apparently, it’s under new management. Might be worth giving it a whirl. And / or, perhaps a locally-grown, environmentally friendly CSAUP with a more cost effective price point. TBD.

NMS: Touch a Tree continues to be a rousing success with nary a hiccup in the process. Smooth like buttuh.

    Mumble chatter did not disappoint.

  • The importance of a good shoe…

After a brief stretch and strapping on the vest, YHC noticed no other Pax would be joining for the ruck so I audibled to a run with Big Rig. Mumble chatter included our Thanksgiving holiday, football, and how critical it is to have a good, quality shoe when running or rucking. YHC learned the hard way on our 10 mile Ruck for Food. Always enjoy running and catching up with Big Rig. His fitness journey is a great motivator.

    House Party

  • Remember That Time When…

a PAX named Secret Q’d and got injured and never came back? We’re going to do that today. That was the introduction to today’s beatdown. YHC was promised a “full breakfast” afterwards and wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, there was breakfast casserole, pound cake, a Costco baklava tray, pecan pie, and coffee. Tclaps!

  • Stay Dry, Keep Moving

As YHC waited for the PAX I realized this should be a Murph Friday. No Murph on the Q sheet and no other PAX joined in the fun so the goal was to stay dry. I may or may not have done a Murph with extra miles, perfect pull ups, extra merkins, a visit to the James River, bonus 11s, burpees, a few trips up Twin Team, and closing out with a solo indigenous people run.

Grateful for the men of F3RVA, have a great weekend gentlemen.

  • Virginia was the first(even Kennedy admits it)

So a disclaimer….it’s taught that the Pilgrims in MA. were the first to celebrate Thanksgiving, yet at Berkeley Plantation in Virginia, 38 settlers came here, part of their charter was to give a day of thanks(hence the history is Virginia is the first to celebrate the holiday). President Kennedy 11/5/63 proclaimed that both states are great, yet Virginia was the first(so those in Massachusetts or the New England area we have that). President Lincoln was the president to declare it a national holiday in 1863. I have more little tidbits to come….here’s the main part

We had a great crowd of 32(range in age from 9 to 70) come out for my VQ with a convergence(the biggest one I lead so far was 18 but this was huge, which I hope will lead to me leading bigger ones down the road). The start, everyone met in the parking lot of Mary Mumford Elementary(I did a little walk thru prior to make sure I had an idea what I wanted), once we took off to the black top of 50 states for a WARMARAMMA(SSHs, Don Quixtoes, Helicopters, Cherry Pickers, Copperhead Squats, Merkins, LBCs, Alabama Prom Dates). Once that was completed, over to the big field for 11s(my 11s consisted of Mike Tysons(aka Beast) Merkins and Breakdancer(leg drives thru to each side). 11 trees out in the field, able to finish it off in 1 fail swoop.

Part 2….four corners(non ladies of the evening) style. 25 Supermans, 50 Carolina Dry Docks, 75 Monkey Humpers, 100 2-count flutter kicks(the only thing now looking back at it, I would have reverse the movement from one corner to another where the long sides bear crawl, the short lunges). It still taxes the body, everyone finished then it was back to the 50 states.

Part 3….triple check(remember the wall is not a person). People’s chair, Jump squats, run to the fence and back(same deal there I would have made one tweak with the run, bernie back but i was in full workout mode so I am not changing

Part 4….Dora(classic style) 100 Merkins, 200 squats, 300 LBCs(with the run around the full area with the courts. I have to admit that worked out great with the distance of the run, it really stretched things out

Final little bit…floor sprints(quick round of 10) it was finished. Numbers, names(intro for an FNG who was our youngest) prayer lead by YHC to close it out(then hang-out time and snacks thanks to Heist and Bodos)

Welcome Happy(Wilson called him Chubbs) the one that Jaws played(Richard Kiel) in Happy Gilmore was Mr. Larson(had the nail in his head). A lot of energy try to chase him down a few times. Pigskin who is someone I need to bring with to a Spartan race I know he was in it when he’s counting in German(he’s ready to go). Overall guys, thanks for the opportunity to lead this

So a couple of fun facts….favorite side dish for Virginia on Thanksgiving(Mac and Cheese), now an interesting one was Texas with chicken spaghetti(no idea). I have a lot of more workouts, different ideas planned I haven’t really cracked open things that I have to use(trust me when it happens and probably soon you will be going oh boy). One goal I have and I need to upgrade a couple of things is be able to publish backblasts quicker(I need to upgrade my Ipad and add a keyboard so example on Saturdays at Starbucks, I can knock it out then be done. Workouts I am going to be leading more next month, look at the schedule hit some spots that I haven’t been at for a while(6-8 is a reasonable number) close out 2023, get ready for 2024

Have a good one, see you tomorrow at Rock n Roll

  • Thankful for the day after thanksgiving

Warm up: 0.5 mile run and circle up with exercises

1st exercise: Triple check (run up and down satans hill while other two do curls and skullcrushers with Cindy’s)

2nd exercise: FLEX FRIDAY (one minute stations consisting of battle ropes, goblet squats (65 lbs kettlebell), Kettlebell pulls (65 lbs), jump rope, heavy bag flips, kettlebell swings (35 lbs), LBCs with 35 lbs plate, mericans)

Ended in round up with announcements and prayer, thankful for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

  • Still Thankful

With a combined 115 years of life experience, these 2 F3ers knew that on the day after Thanksgiving you gotta fight the good fight against the ever-present Jester, jump out of the Fart Sack, get out and get back to it. We did just that. With the spirit of Currahee’s end-of-the-month Bro Code in mind, we did enough laps around Godwin HS to wear some grooves into the ground. Pigskin saved his hip some pounding by mixing in a few V-Ups and Merkins, and perhaps some other gems from his deep bag of tricks. Speaking of Pigskin’s tricks, during COT I learned a few of Pigskin’s secrets for maintaining a long life of mobility, flexibility, strength and a healthy weight. I’d share here, but it looks like some of the folks reading this need some extra motivation to get after it. If you don’t post, you don’t know.

    Pigskin took us out.

Moleskin: After all the dishes from yesterday have been done and put away, my hope is that I take with me, into the coming year, an undying focus on all the many blessings I do have in my life. Despite my tendency to notice the few things not going so well at any given time, when I give it just a few moments of consideration, there are constantly an almost-infinite number of reasons for gratitude. I’m grateful for all of you guys. SYITG!
