  • Misted Tomatoes

While two Davillians rucked, two others welcomed an SOJ visitor for his next summer tour date. Either the weather or ticket prices rivalling the Eras Tour may have kept more from attending. With out IT bands strung tight and all sound checks completed, we strummed our way through about 4.5 miles. Some of the hits heard by the ladies seen running with Marco Polo were about lotteries, bank examining, and boot camp induced aches and pains. After numbers and names, announcements included encouraging participation at the Bridge, Spit’s 400th Q tomorrow at the Creek, and YHC’s visiting Q at RAMM tomorrow. Opus took us out.

It was pleasant to have Heist travel up from SOJ to run with us north of the wall. We all need to work hard to keep up with the pace of his summer tour. It really is a great way to meet other Pax members.

Great work by the PAX.  Pigskin and Gypsy came in neon.  There was a local runner dressed comparably.  They bonded.  They tried to create a nickname for this group.  Lightning Bugs stuck.  They are cute.

The PAX stayed dry today, so that was a win.

God is good all of the time!

  • Running with squishy shoes sucks

YHC and Greenbow left the safe space of SOT to get out and take on the wind and the rain of MOT. Greenbow predetermined that he would not be running 10 -12 miles today so together we ran to the bridge on Charter Colony which is the 2 mile mark where Greenbow turned and headed back to the flag. YHC bound and determined to get in 10 miles due to the fact that a Monday and Tuesday runs where missed kept pressing on towards Tomahawk Middle, Brandermill PKWY to Genito back up and over to St Francis, up to Manders Dr, to Coafield to Queensgate back to the flag

10.58 Miles total, didn’t feel good in the rain and had to walk more than one uphill battle. In all it took about an hour and a half +

NMS: Its always good to get out and after it with someone, while Greenbow didn’t go the whole route with YHC it was good company for the time that YHC did have with him. YHC will do this route again but hopefully in dryer weather, it has lots of short hills that add a fair amount of challenge to the already challenging distance. Starting off the day, basically (not quite) running a half marathon is not for everyone but I enjoyed it.

  • The Rain The Parking Deck and Other Things

Just Lighthouse and me today. So we headed for the parking deck and did the following: At each ‘back and forth’, did 10 merkin exercises and 15 or 20 ab exercises. For example, after warming up with SSHs and Don Quixotes, we ran up one full level and did 10 Diamond merkins and 15 Knee-ups. Next full level up, we did 10 merkins and 20 LBCs. There are, counting the first level where you enter, 4 levels. At the top level, we went to the end and back. So we stopped 8 times for a set of merkins/ab exercises. Then we (mostly) repeated up and back down. When we got to 8 minutes left, 6:07, we started back. Lighthouse took the long way around the lake and ran directly back.

  • Deliverance 4 – Sand and Rain Edition

Deliverance 4 – Sand and Rain Edition

10 Completely Stupid and Utterly Pointless Thrill Seekers decided to get wet this morning with not just sweat, but rain water and river water. After all boats had captains at 0500, the task force steamed over to the North Bank of the mighty James River.

Paddle up the little creek to our new beach area and waddle up the sand dunes for:

    COP:

Dead Man Hang, Reach for the Sky, Helicopters, DQ’s, Sand Merkins, LBC’s, Flutter Kicks, Sandy Scorpion Kicks 🙂

    5 Burpees OYO

    TRIPLE CHECK:

Using the three coupons that were collected on the voyage over, we did:

    Partner 1: Carolina Dry Docks

    Partner 2: Squats

Partner 3 (Timer): Carry coupon Hallelujah-style across the knee, then waist, then shoulder deep creek and back!

    Three rounds, of course.

Lunge Walk 50 yards back to the boats, stopping on the way for 5 more Burpees. Go ahead and do your burpees in the water, Machismo 🙂

Hop back in boats and head out of the creek into the main river for:

    INTERVAL PADDLING:

60 seconds on Hard Paddling upriver/30 seconds light paddle

10 minutes of this. Time is now 0545. Gather together and spend a minute of silently reflecting, praying, meditating. Turn to the American Flag on the South Bank and recite the Pledge of Allegiance out loud.

15 minute paddle/float at your own pace back to the landing! No pretty sunrise this year.

Circle up on the landing for 5 more Burpees OYO. Time!

    COT:

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Pictures and Upchuck to us out!

    NMS:

What a fun time this morning, Men! We knew we were going to get wet, but that did not slow us down or make it suck. The new beach wasn’t too bad to workout on compared to the old beach the first couple of years. No one flipped over this year like last year, but there were a couple of near full immersions with cinder blocks that occurred. The rain didn’t get heavy until the float back, but who cares, we were already wet.

Thanks for coming out this morning, gentlemen! This will be done again in June 2024 as close to the Summer Soltice, as possible.

    Happy Summer, everyone!

    SYITG!

  • In a pinch and a broken shovel flag.

Got to the AO, last minute audible on who’s gonna be the Q.

Went to insert my shovel flag into the ground, and with all my mighty strength, I snapped my shovel flag in half… either that or I bought the cheapest shovel I could find.

3 hard chargers showed up for a make it up as you go Q session.

    Mosey to the basketball court.

Warm up:Side straddle hops, Don Quixote’s, imperial walkers, super Mario jumps, karaoke

    Mosey to the football field.

Four Corners: 10 burpees, 20 Merkins, 30 jump squats, 40 flutter kicks, no prostitute style, there was a preacher with us, didn’t seem appropriate.

Florence’s Black Jack, Choose your own adventure style:

Black Jack, Still 1 rep on one side run 40 yards 20 rep on the other side, run back to the other side, working your way up to 20 on one side, and down to 1 on the other. The choose your own adventure part, each of us had the freedom to choose what workout we did when we got to each side. This work out is a great filler if you don’t have an extensive game plan.

Mosey back to the parking lot: few extra minutes left.

Ring of fire, 10 of our favorite Merkins

    COT: No prayer requests

Special Thanks to State Farm and Preach with suggestions during this Q.

Looking forward to the summer, hoping the weather stays the way it is, and that I can hit as many AO’s as possible this summer.

Takeout by YHC using an excerpt from Romans:

We also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
