  • Not Grove

11 Studs posted on a Sunny and 70 Tuesday morning at University of Richmond. The route was Mount Henrico. Weather was perfect, 2nd F was spectacular. Lots of prayers for PAX and loved ones. Take inventory of your blessings and spread them as far and wide as you can.

  • Puppy talk at the Amphitheater

YHC was greeted with two brave men at WDog in a rainy morning. YHC was reminded that WDog has a nice Amphitheater. Moseyed to the theater and here is how it went down:

    • COP – Deadman hang x 10, Tippy-toe x 10, helicopter x 10, Imperial Walkers x 10, SSH x 10, American Hammers x 10, Flutter kicks x 10, LBC x 10, Merkins x 10, Scorpion Kicks x 5
    • Exercise 1 – The 11: Merkins on one side and Jump Squats on the other side of the stage: 10, 1, …
    • Exercise 2 – The 11: SSH and LBC on the stage.
    • Moseyed to the triangle for three rounds of exercise. Lunge to the street and run down the hill and SHH x 10 at the bottom of the hill and run up the hill and 10 merkins.
    • Moseyed back to the flag.

At the Amphitheater, since YHC is thinking of getting a puppy, lots of advice and knowledge were shared.

Numbers, Names, Announcements and Oyster took us out, praying over Bleeder’s one of his direct reports family.

Coffee was provided after the workout!

  • First Class Workout

The cold rain could not stop 8 wide awake gentlemen of the 5am gloom from getting their money’s worth! After Splinter falls in line and Handshake revs his engine in the middle of River Rd, the following may have happened:

    COP in front of church:

Dead Man Hang, Reach for the Sky, DQ’s, that’s enough, let’s go!

Since Splinter ran his Feb 1 continuous mile right before the workout started, the PAX will:

Run a continuous mile through the River Road Hills neighborhood ending at the entrance of $$$Windsor on the James$$$

While in WOTJ, at each mailbox (there were plenty) conduct different exercises depending on what the house number is on the mailbox. To be brief, there were many HR Merkins (front sides get wet), several Burpees, a lot of WW2’s (backs get wet), some Heels to Heaven (backs get wetter), just enough Lt. Dan’s, and some Suzanne Somers just so the PAX could get their sides wet.

After making the turn past Governor Gilmore’s house and back up to the entrance, the PAX headed back to the parking lot.

    Partner up for:

    Partner 1 elbow planks

Partner 2 lunges 15 paces and turns around and lunges back to partner.

Partner 2 then completes 10 Plerkins on Partner 1’s back.

    2+ rounds

    Back to VSF for:

Numbers, Names, Announcements (none, its raining) and YHC took us out!

    NMS:

The backblast title is taken from a Spider Run route that Marv created named “First Class Run.” Only those who have ventured into Windsor on the James will know. YHC admits, this morning sucked!!! YHC will bet anyone that the streets in WOTJ were wetter than any other street in Richmond. Take my word for it! The PAX can blame Splinter for coaxing YHC into dishing out Suzanne Somers in order to get everyone’s sides soaked.

80 WW2’s + 20 Heels to Heaven = 100 Abs Exercises and 1 continuous mile for all the February Challenge entrants!

2+ miles total. Still a tougher workout than WTH! 🙂

Way to work this morning, Men!

  • MOT Takeover (2 weeks early)

I tried to make this sound clever, but that just feels like a waste of time, so here’s what happened. Six runners showed up to SOT and there were zero bootcampers… so the entire crew ran. Way to go runners! We did the halfpipe down Mt Midlo to Coalfield and back and added the Little Caesar’s loop for the 4.25ers. The 5 milers lapped the school and track.

    Counterama, Namerama, COT

It seems fitting that in two week we’ll be kicking off MOT (Miles Of Truth) – SOJ’s first running AO. Same day, time and location as SOT (Wed, 5:30 @ Midlo Middle). Can’t wait to see many of you out there!

  • Its February! Who would even show up???

6 faithful entered the cold rainy gloom to push each other once again. As we gathered in the rain the mumble chatter was I wasn’t sure anyone would be here but yet we had strong numbers for our WTH band of brothers. 1 week to my respect day and I led the charge through the cold.

The Thang: Head out towards west broad village stop at a familiar spot to do some warms ups 3/4 mile into the run. 10 Imperial walkers, 11 Ukrainian solders…its raining lets go. Mosey to parking decks for the work: Start for climb stop at each level Merkins: 10, run to next 15, run to next 20, run to next 25, finish the final open climb to top 10 Burpees. Head back down to base stop at the levels and in reverse 25, 20, 15, 10 American hammers back to start. 2nd climb to top was squats on way up at each level 10, 15, 20, 25 and 10 burpee chaser at top. Back down with American hammers again descending 25 to 10. Mosey out of parking deck to head to gazebo, all are please to see rain dying off. At gazebo 3 sets of 15 dips and 15 merkins, once done 25 american hammers and 25 LBCs. Head out to flag long way around lake. Finish up just in time. 3.57 miles covered in total for run. Good workout 36 degrees wasnt so cold after all. Closed in prayer and thanks given to Tator for pulling me into F3 nation 3 years ago this week. I used to tease him I wasnt going to go to Zumba to workout, id stick with running. First time at GridIron i quickly learned this was not Zumba and have been hooked every since! Love the brotherhood and friendships formed.

  • Back in the Saddle

For a litany of reasons, had been a while since YHC had 1) posted 2) Q’d. A late night group text from Lighthouse asking for a Q and I decided to take the reigns. Having given no thought to a gameplan, I decided to reheat a workout I Q’d at WTH back in July. Here’s what we did:

    • Head out from the AO and run to Windsor Place/Thamesford Way neighborhood
    • Halt at the small cul-de-sac right off Thamesford for the disclaimer and a brief warm up
    • We then headed to the parking lot at Church Run Community Pool for Elevens, consisting of squat jumps and merkins
    • After Elevens, caught our breath with a smattering of Mary exercises
    • Departed the parking lot, back to the cul-de-sac for 6-count burpees
    • Continued the run, back across Three Chopt, around the lake to the gazebo for dips/derkins
    • Run back to the shovel flag for CoT
    • 3.5 to 3.6 miles depending on who’s watch you looked at

No announcements or prayer requests. Appreciate the opportunity to lead!

  • Breaking Baked Ziti

Fireman Ed and one of his 2.0s made baked ziti and brownies for the guests at Breaking Bread. Ed had no idea how many different cheeses went into baked ziti so after a few trips to different stores, he and his 2.0 (Olivia) were ready to go. For once, Ed actually followed his 2.0’s directions to the T and did not mess anything up. Add a salad and away we went. Even though we were unable to serve the guests, it teaches both of us a good lesson in gratitude. Below is a view of my 2.0 with a staff member at Breaking Bread. We will do this again (although I may need to bribe my 2.0 to lend her culinary skills). It is good to serve.

  • Blame Splinter

Splinter tooketh away a duplicate BB, YHC is adding a missing one back.

  • I’m Writing This Because Someone Else Is Scared To

Eight or nine folks gathered at Mary for a legacy master Q. We ran over to the parking lot for COP then met on the track for something like this:

    The Thang

    • Run a lap, then 10 merkins
    • Run a lap, then 20 merkins
    • Run a lap, then 30 merkins
    • Run a lap, then 40 merkins
    • Run a lap, then 50 merkins
    • Then back down?

The rules were concocted along the way and included:

    • If you pass Q and his mate, you have to stop and do 10 burpees
    • If you pass in the workout zone, no burpee penalty (don’t tell anyone this one)
    • Others which may or may not have been announced

Numbers, names, and the Q took us out.

If YHC missed your name, comment on slack.

  • Choose Your Own Adventure

6 early-rising Davillians enjoyed this spring-like weather the right way. YHC sent out a route the night before. The route was meant to be flexible to make it either a 4-mile loop or a 5-mile out-and-back. YHC underestimated the PAX’s creativity. While YHC and Hash took the advertised 5-mile route, the rest of the PAX improvised. Opus and Mr. Holland found a 4.2-mile route there somewhere, and Corned Beef and Boo Boo did a run/walk for 3.5 miles. Numbers, names, and Mr. Holland took us out.

While we missed the ruckers today, it was good to see Boo Boo out running for the first time since joining our nanoregion. The foot must be feeling better.

A lot of good chatter about upcoming 2nd F events. Tuesdays and Thursdays were mentioned as possible recurring events, and Marty’s and PBR were mentioned as possible locations. It was great running with everyone today, and thank you to Hash for pushing me.
