  • The In Law Suite

Twelve animals on 2 legs and one animal on 4 legs hit the gridded streets around Mary this AM for today’s iteration of RAMM. 5:00 runners launched at, well, 5:00, while the rest launched at 5:30. Only 6s and 4s today so here we go:

    The Route

    • Right on Monument
    • Left on Staples Mill
    • Right on Fitz Hugh
    • Right on Antrim
    • Right on Grove
    • 6s take two detours off Antrim. First was a right on Augusta, left on Chantilly, left on Cutshaw. Second was a right on Grace, left on Blacker, left on Monument

    • Prayers for the (S)MILs and FILs in our lives
    • Shakedown is painting with balls tomorrow at 10am. See him for details.

    Moleskin

YHC couldn’t help but inquire into in-law status after Faceplant put at teaser on Slack. Great mumblechatter ensued for what seemed like more than half the route. Good luck!

Welcome Mall Cop from Charlotte. Recently moved to Church Hill and can run anywhere from a 630 pace to a 1000 pace. Hope to see more of you in RVA.

    See y’all soon.

  • A Lake Cruise

A dozen runners plus two dogs took a cruise down Lake Lorraine on a beautiful Friday morning. The route was North on Pump, right on Church, right on Lake Lorraine–in this neighborhood, go left every time you are given the choice, hit two cul-de-sacs and work your way up the hill and back to Church. Then either John Rolfe to Glen Eagles to Ridgefield to the flag for 4.5 miles or John Rolfe all the way to Ridgefield to the flag for 5.1 miles.

It is great to see Blue Moon running again and Mr. Rogers having the day off and being there for the COT.

Announcements: Lunch next Tuesday at Firehouse Subs, Innsbook. Beer Mile and Blacksburg F3 launch on 10/29. See Slack for more details. Prayers for Gypsy’s sister and her doctors. May she find healing soon.

    Storytime:

My wife and I saw Toad the Wet Sprocket last night at the National. We saw them for the first time a little over 30 years ago at the Flood Zone.

There’s some Toad song lyrics from the song “Starting Now” that stick with me: “The best time to change was many years ago. Next best thing, is starting where we are.” I need to always work at being a better father, husband, son, brother, friend and holding onto regrets does not ever help. “I’ve wasted years, won’t waste another instant”. Let’s go out and be our best today.

  • It Pays ($100) to be a Winner

Nine PAX stood ready to launch on a perfect fall morning, soon joined at the literal last minute by a six-foot stallion driving the best 1988 had to offer. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the engineer who installed new lighting in the teachers’ F3 Parking Lot, the following might have happened:

One two three four full warm-up laps around the Parking Lot (the beatings will continue until morale improves).

Form a single line. Indian Native American lunge walk. Pax line up and lunge in single file. Last man does 10 burpees, then moves to the front of the line. Ah, forget it. Last man did his 10 burpees. Penance served.

    Mosey to the grassy corner.

15 (or so) warm up exercises, descending roughly in count from 15 down to 1. Exercises were something like:

    SSHs
    Imperial walkers
    Don Quixotes
    Hillbillies
    Littlest of Baby Crunches
    Hello Dollies
    Flutter kicks
    Rosalitas
    Something else
    Hand Release Merkins
    Merkins
    Carolina Dry Docks
    Burpees
    Something else

If Fudd counts this far, then yes, there are only 14 exercises. RVM Math Team!

21s. Pax does 5 SSHs in cadence, then continues silently until 21, finishing in unison. BOOM! Nailed it. (Somewhere Hitchhiker is doing 5 burpees on his own.)

Mosey to the Greek Church parking lot.

    Dora 1-2-3. Pair up.
    100 Carolina Dry Docks
    200 Squats
    300 Side-Straddle Hops

Twist: each time partners switch, perform 5 Boo-Yah Merkins.

Mosey to the other side of the parking lot. Partner up. (Yeah, so what if the Q knew to stand next to EF Hutton?)

Partner 1: Bear crawl to curb
Partner 2: Dealer’s Choice. A variety of PAX selected WWIIs, LBCs, and something else.
    Roughly 3 rounds.

    Anyone want to race BTTVSF?

Four Corners. One round for all the marbles.

    10 merkins
    20 LBCs
    30 box cutters
    40 Something else…maybe rosalitas.

Mosey BTTVSF. Sprint the last 20 yards.

Numbers, names, Swirl Y took us out.

    Announcements:

Beer Mile. October 29, horses report to the paddock: 7:00 p.m. Race start time, also 7:00 p.m. First person puke time, also 7:00 p.m.

Breaking Bread: 3 open nights for the year. November and December. This is F3RVA’s volunteer effort. Bring dinner to 8-12 folks recovering at the Southside Medical Clinic. They love it. You’ll love it. Sign up on the Q sheet. YHC thanks you in advance.

NMS: Great morning, fellas. Well done. Thank you for making this fun.

  • Noises in the gloom…..

Temps were a bit milder this AM with 52 and clear with no wind. Perfect conditions for a beatdown. 9 HIM left the comfort of their vehicles to circle up on the asphalt for a Fudd Q with KB’s. Here’s what happened:

COP – SSH, Don Quixote, Yoga poses, Merkins, Crunchy Frogs, Arm Circles, Hillbillies

Mosey to the back parking lot for a Farmers Carry Beast between the lampposts.

Exercises – KB swings, Goblet squats, Curls, Overhead Press, Tricep Extension, Romanian Deadlifts

Mosey back to the flag and get into groups of 3 for Triple Check: Counter runs a lap around the loop, 2nd and 3rd men do alternating clean/press and American Hammers.

Circle up near the flag for Mary: Flutter kicks holding KB extended, V ups with KB, LBC’s, Freddie Mercuries

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Mumblechatter was relatively high today, mostly from one PAX member who will remain nameless, except to say that he is named after a certain type of antlered animal. Guidance on form began before the COP even started, but quickly died off once we were 7 or 8 reps into the SSH’s. In retrospect, it is encouraging that Q’s are held to a standard at this AO…..what would F3RVA come to if things were otherwise? Interesting comments aside, if one could be compensated for flatulence this individual would be a multi-millionaire. After asking if everything was OK from a medical perspective…..did he need me to buy him some Mylanta on the way home?……. YHC was assured from multiple PAX that this was just another Thursday morning in the gloom at Circus Maximus. Thank you boys……noted.

The PAX performed admirably today, and while this did not reach the pain threshold of an Offshore Q, the level of observed perspiration indicated a decent beatdown was experienced by all. Thanks for letting me lead fellas.

    Fudd out.

  • We Should’ve Learned the Saxophone

Four runners, with one four-legged friend, and two ruckers, with another four-legged friend, launched from the Rutland Clubhouse on a perfect fall morning. This is what went down. There wasn’t even a bit of wind to blow. Job number one was to plan a route. YHC suggested a loop through Giles and Craney Island would fit the Bill for about a four-mile route. YHC’s guess was close, but no cigar. The runners covered about 4.5 miles by adding in a modified Bojangles loop. YHC visually confirmed rucking happened as well, but did not confirm the distance covered.

It was fun to catch up with the group and receive some belated advice on musical instrument selection. I was also impressed with the grace displayed by Hershey in sharing her pack with another four-legged friend. The only announcement was the upcoming beer mile. Prayers for Opus’s son’s medical procedure. Opus took us out.

NMS: YHC was not real sure how to work this Q without using shoulder muscles but between legs and abs there are actually lots of options, you just need to think on the fly. Thanks to the guys who posted this morning for having patience as I put it all together.
