  • Scouting Wood

Two fully erect Stallions strutted around at Morning Wood. Moseyed around perimeter of the park between 1 and 1.5 miles scouting areas that had cover for the upcoming Q. Found some nice shelter in the dog park that looked prime for some 80s music and trivia.

  • Parking Lot Karen

7 Southside gentlemen showed up at Bettie Weaver Elementary School on an excellent morning for a workout/run. All 7 started off on the road toward James River High School and the 5 boot campers peeled off to the parking lot and 2 runners kept going to tackle 6ish miles on the morning. The boot camp is where the fun happened.

After a warmup of some DQ, IW, SSH, Merkins and LBC in front of the school entrance we heard a little story about a co-worker that didn’t think the needed to make sure the lugnuts are on your car when the dealer rotates your tires (hint, the tire does not stay on the car). Parking lot tracers in the bus parking lot until YHC got tired of them and moseyed over to the tennis courts. A quick 4 corners within the fence – 10HRM, 20 Jump squats, 30 Freddies, 40 Mtn Climbers. Over to the school workout area for 5 pullups each. YHC missed the tire pile next to the school so we moseyed over there for a little tire flipping fun. Grab a tire, flip it 10x in the parking lot, run to the building, come back flip it 10x; or at least that was the plan until our own Parking Lot Karen showed up to cut this idea short. More detail later.

Pull up bars – 5 more pullups/jerkins. Track – repeato 4 corners. Playground 5 more pullups. 2 burpees per light pole on the mosey back to the flag and close out with some Mary and Ring of Fire.

Good distance traveled to show off some of the lesser seen parts of the the AO. Be on the lookout for Q’s in May when there could be plans to hit the River for some sunrise workouts.

Here’s how we threw off the morning of some poor woman in the back James River High School parking lot. After the first round of tire flipping a car shows up – we move the tires and ourselves out of the drive aisle so she can drive through or park in any of the 20+ parking spaces…no movement. Move one tire out of a parking space…no movement…she puts the blinker on…we look around, one tire left in the last parking space in the line. We move that tire so she can pull in and complete an 8 point turn to get the car just right. Somewhere a teacher is complaining about a group of hoodlums that hijacked the school’s tires and refused to move them some she could get into her preferred parking space. Sorry for disturbing your morning routine, future uses of the tires, and there will be future uses, will be done in the field (or in that last parking space depending on how bitter we’re feeling).

    Have a great day gentlemen.

    HDHH – O’Tooles Midlothian on Wednesday 3/16 – a pre-St. Patty’s day warm up for those interested.

In College There Was A Girl We Called Sharrow

A relatively light crew of 8 launched from RAMM for some fun around the city streets. Two launched at 5, the rest quickly huddled prior to 530 for the following instructions. YHC was reminded that today was Friday and we were only supposed to run. Regardless, this is what we did:

    The Route

    • 4s go north on Commonwealth to a right on Monument
    • 5s / 6s go west on Grove
    • 5s take a right on Lexington, right on Patterson, left on Chantilly, right on Monument
    • 6s take a right on Roslyn to Harlan, left on Patterson, right on Willow Lawn, right on Monument
    • Everyone take Monument to a right on Boulevard
    • Right on Floyd
    • On Floyd, every time you passed a “Sharrow” you had to do a burpee. There were many.
    • Right on Nansemond, left on Grove BTTVSF

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Moleskin

Light crew today, must be either spring break or the UVA fans didn’t want to show up after a 13 point first half last night. Either way, those who showed up ran.

YHC was inspired the other day while driving down Floyd to somehow incorporate this road into a workout, given the ample number of Sharrows that were painted on the road. Faceplant proceeded to disclose his company is responsible for many of the bike lanes that now exist throughout the city. He also disclosed any of the Sharrows that have a painted background are not federally recognized, so we skipped those burpees. Pays to have someone on the inner circle in your running group.

While sitting in my car at 515 looking to see who had the Q and realizing it was open, YHC took the opportunity to introduce the PAX to all the Sharrows on Floyd. Everyone rejoiced.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend, wherever they may be running.

  • TF Trail Run

YHC had a new 5 mile route planned for today. Rolled into the lot and Yardsale and No Idea started earlier on the Ruck walk both sporting their 40# pack. 3 more posted to run so YHC and Marco Polo ran about a 9 minute/mile pace and Mr Holland and Opus ran about a 9:15/min mile pace. Our route started with the reverse Bo Jangle’s loop over the tracks behind Atlee, Chickohominy Middle and Cool Spring Elementary to Honey Meadows, up the hill by the clubhouse into Taylor farms. Marco Polo and YHC ran on the trail route past the Schools over the Bridge and past the starting point for another 10th of a mile to get just over 5 miles. Mr Holland and Opus stayed on the main roads and logged in just over 5 miles also. We rolled into our Rucker’s posting promptly at 6:15.

Numberama, Namerama, Yardsale took us out in prayer this morning.

  • Concierge Q

An intimate foursome gathered in the forge gloom and each was asked “what do you need this morning?” Without a specific plan in mind, YHC gathered the PAX was interested in stretching, running DTH’s neighborhood hills, getting warm, and exercising the core. Service with a smile, here’s what we did:

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey loop
    • Circle up for IC reps

    COP #1:

    • Cross Forrest Hill Ave for a  Neighborhood mosey, stopping periodically for variable IC reps, heavy focus on Core exercises, and some stretching as well

    COP #2:

    • Form up at the bottom of the Stratford Road “Love Hill” for a DORA
    • x100 Merkins
    • x200 Lunges (single-count)
    • x300 Flutters (2-count)
    • Moving partner runs to top of hill and back down to switch

    Mosey BTTF:

    • SNUFF led a few minutes of breathing exercises

YHC apologizes – there was no formalized COT… but we had four Forge Vets who share life and love, and we ended our time with Namaste and Tailgate Coffeerama.

NMS:  After leading some painful routines at Dogpile and NoToll, YHC was ready for something a little lighter today. The week has been extremely busy, and no plan was made, except to serve the PAX whatever they needed. We left no man behind, and we found each other stronger together at the end. God is good all the time, and giving Him  our burdens, relinquishing control of our lives to His perfect Love, is where we can find a peace that surpasses understanding. Love and Grace, DTH

  • Sleepwalking

A solid PAX of 6 assembled to throw around the KBs this morning.  Mumble-chatter and bodily functions provided a lot of background noise that some of us tried to tune out.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Arm circles – forwards and backwards
      • Helicopters
      • Merkins
      • LBC
      • APD
    • Lucky Bus Loop – farmers carry to the four quadrants of the bus loop, perform 15 reps of a certain exercise, adding a new exercise for each quadrant, with a total of 8 at the end
      • Lawnmower pulls – each arm (8x)
      • Overhead pulls (7x)
      • Sit ‘n presses (6x)
      • Sumo squats (5x)
      • Curls (4x)
      • KB swings (3x)
      • Shoulder press (2x)
      • American hammers
    • Run the bus loop
    • Ring of fire – 10 merkins
    • COT with YHC taking us out

YHC was up watching UVA last night, and as a result was sleep walking today.  Thanks to the PAX for putting up with his fatigue.  Great work all around.  Time for a nap.

God is good all of the time!

    Attila

  • Dolly vs Rosalita

4 gents debated the form and function of certain exercises during an off-campus field trip to the outskirts of Mary. Some counted for no apparent reason. Doras and Lindsays were modified to accomodate the location, low turnout, and YHC’s whim.

    Saab abides

    Rosalita

Ab exercise done laying on back, legs raised to 90 degrees. Keeping legs perpendicular to ground, separate legs outward then return to start.

    Dolly

Ab exercise done laying on back, legs raised about six inches from ground. Keeping legs parallel to ground, separate legs outward then return to start.

  • The rain the parking deck and other things

At WaThoHuk, we’re not afraid of a little rain and 42 degrees. OK, Lighthouse and I aren’t. We ran out of the parking lot at Pocahontas to 3 Chopt Road, took a right, another right on John Rolfe, a right on Old Brick and headed to the parking deck on the same block as Dave and Buster’s. Three trips up and down the ramps. First time, a stop at each end of the ramp for increasing flutter kicks (4, 8, 12, etc.) Ended up doing 44 flutters kicks on the last stop. Next time, Merkins (1, 2, 3, etc). Final time, squats (4, 8, etc). By that time, it was 6:10 so we headed back. Not nearly as bad as we anticipated.

Prayers for Lighthouse’s family in Kyiv, Ukraine and Roger Roger’s family.
