  • Dora meets the Beast

9 studly dudes came out on a nice fall morning to experience some exercise and fellowship. Even though a few regulars decided to fartsack, a good time was still had.

COP: DQ, DMH, Invisible jump rope, merkins, Freddie Mercury, ACs

Mosey to lower field and take on the beast. The wrinkle was that we would go across the field widthwise or go lengthwise depending on how I flipped my coin. We started with merkins, went to Lt. Dans, plank jacks, Carolina dry docks, mountain climbers and then of course burpees.

Mosey to front of Short Pump middle.

Mega Dora with 100 HRMs, 200 WWIIs, 300 SSHs, 400 LBCs. Gotta work those abs.

Mosey to home base. 3 rounds of wall sits with coupons. Pinto had the idea of a coupon shoulder press while passing the coupons; that went well. We also worked in 3 sets of donkey kicks and 2 sets of chicken peckers.

We closed with the main announcement (no disrespect to sit and sip but by the time I write this sit and sip is in full gear) is a blood drive on Wednesday 10/20 on a church at South side (near 288). Volunteers are needed to either give blood or work the event all the way from set up to take down. All of the details are on backblast; you can also ask Pigskin the ageless one.

Thanks to god for this wonderful weather.

  • Anyone ever have Triplets?

YHC grabbed the Q to ensure attendance as he is leaving to Believeland today to take his son (Dawgpound) to his first Browns game. YHC was greeted by 5 smiling Paxers ready to take on the cool gloom. A new New Marketeer (Ponch) came to join a few minutes in.

COP: 25 SSH’s, 10 each: DQ’s, Russian soldiers, arm circles both ways, helicopters, imperial walkers, Russian soldiers, merkins, LBC’s, Flutters, Dollies, cherry pickers, deadman Hang, front side scorpion kicks. Mosey to coupon pile. Grab a coupon.

3 Run the hairpin to otterdale, Rock squats, X?X?X?X

Prayers to Mcgruff’s BIL in hospital. To our troops dealing with the mental side of coming home/getting out. It is mental health month/suicide prevention month.

Announcements: Freed to Bleed, see Bo or preblast, Retreat Saturday (Wish I could attend).

YHC took us out in prayer. Always an honor to lead. Thanks for the strength you gentleman give me everyday!

  • How did we miss the 2 in front doing COP!

The clock struck a minute past 5:30 and YHC and his trusty companion Wilson were coming in hot to Timberwolf. So hot in fact we missed the 2 member PAX in the front lot. YHC and Wilson circled around back of the building where we were reunited with Boberry and Vagabond. It was Wilsons idea to circle the back (I think he wanted to walk a bit, HAHA).

Hot Potato. COP was not part of it.

    A day of DORA’s

Boberry 100 Merkins, 200 squats, 300 plank jacks.

    Wilson 100 XXX?, 200XXX, 300????

    Vagabond 100?, 200?, 300?

Nancy: Run through cones in and out past flag and back. Finish with some stretching.

YHC took us out in prayer.

  • Better Late than Never

LockJaw didn’t show up on this day (August 27th) either to give us a route. Can’t really remember the routes taken by the group but I think it was pretty much a freestyle. Splinter, Faceplant and YHC ran the Bodos inspired Windsor Farm run.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Sorry, sort of for waiting so long to post. For you Big Data people I know that it’s annoying.

  • He’s Like Yellow Dog from Funny Farm

Every now and then there’s a reference that is simply too good not to mention on the BackBlast. Yes, Chevy Chase is known for much, much more than his role in the very pedestrian movie “Funny Farm”. But he made it during at time when he was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, coming off blockbusters like the Vacation franchises and Fletch.

So those of us who are a certain age all saw “Funny Farm.” From what I can remember, I was very underwhelmed. Needless to say, it’s not one that I’m dying to show my 14yo (unlike Fletch, Vacation and, at some point after he’s 16, the un-edited version of Caddyshack”.

I do remember one pretty funny part of the movie and that was the continual plot thread of the yellow dog just running around the Chase’s property. This morning, out of nowhere as the gloom was beginning to lift, Big Tennessee brought out the ultimate of late 80s references comparing Saab to “Yellow Dog from Funny Farm”. It was right on the mark and a truly classic line.

And classic lines should be written about in the bACKbLAST.

No LockJaw today so we were kind of on our own to make up a route. The group was leaning towards Reverse Carrilon, but instead decided to head north towards Monument Avenue.

4’s–Up Commonwealth, east on Monument, turn around at Boulevard, back to the flag.

5’s–same thing to Monument, turn around at Strawberry, back to the flag.

6’s–same thing to Monument, turn around at the circle where the Robert E. Lee statue was once located.

Saab–Just running around like Yellow Dog in Funny Farm.

You guys have a good weekend.

  • Some Late Core Broga

A pair of limber stallions returned to the courts of No Toll for the 2nd week for some Broga. With numbers doubling from the previous week, some early morning stretching was called for prior to the epic beatdown DTH was throwing down. Core work was the key with the abs being tested for the full session. Good to have Chaplain back in the fold as we continue to reignite the Broga fire.

  • Murph Graded on a Curve

A quartet of SOJ studs descended on Twin Team for a Last Call beatdown with the lunar calendar showing the last Friday of the month. Taking a page from Honeymoon, a Murph was called by the light of the moon. Here is how it went down:

Quick 1,600 meter mosey around James River High school to include 1 lap around the track and back up to Betty Weaver fields. Collect Bullseye along the way. Warmarama around the equipment that included arm circles and dead man hang followed by the Murph rountine. 10 pull ups, 20 merkins, 30 squats followed by a run across the field and back. Complete 10 rounds holding for the 6 after each round. Pull ups became more of an arm hang for YHC during the 1st round until completion, you vs. you.

Murph completed with time to spare, lets continue to work the shoulders with a curb crawl around the bus loop, indigenous people style. Caboose lunges to the front and repeato until time.

Names, Numbers, Announcements, YHC took us out

Announcements: Sip & See Retreat this weekend where Gumbo is primed to retain Corn Hole Crown. His M has found a special place in the home for the trophy to be displayed. T Claps to Bone Thugs with his incredible story and health improvement. See slack for his details.

NMS: Some mumble chatter this morning to include seeing long time acquaintances that have held up over the years. Doozy called the Murph early on noticing the unusual running distance for a Last Call Q. Moonlight really helped navigate the damp field. Good to see some regulars at Twin Team. Hope to continue sports discussion as it is a great start to the weekend. Safe travels to those going to the retreat.

  • Sunday Runday

A gaggle of men, some topless and some clothed, hit the dirt slopes on Sunday. Temps continued to be flat at 70 and sunny. According to the really fast dude who went flying past YHC, the following likely happened:

Route: South Bank (Buttermilk), optional lariat, T. Pottersfield Bridge, (meet Fire Elf), return to base via North Bank.

NMS: YHC left at the end of the run. No idea what happened. Hopefully, Sippy Cup made it home on time.

    Announcements:

F3RVA Retreat is Saturday. Bring your meat, your ball glove, your social skills, and your desire to defeat the Stache Brothers. See address on Slack.

Pigskin has organized a Freed to Bleed blood drive Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Midlothian (Tuckahoe and Mechanicsvillians: that’s south of the river.) Volunteers are needed, so take a look at your calendar and pick out a 2 hour slot on the calendar to help staff the event!

Gypsy is collecting shoes that are in reasonably good shape. Drop him a line for details.
