  • Starbucks or Suicides

A trio of boot campers and quartet of runners ascended on Betty Weaver for the wet gloom. 5.30 strikes, runners are off onto the damp roads, boot campers off to find dry cover. This is what was discovered:

Mosey to Betty Weaver covered entrance for disclaimer and warmarama that included SSH, Dead Man Hang, DQ’s, Helis, Heals to Heaven and Merkins.

Mosey over to Twin Team with glow sticks in hand. With the help and experience of Doozy, YHC laid out 4 glow sticks as PAX climbed Twin Team hill hoping for the tree canopy to shelter us from any imposing showers. Stop at the top of the Twin Team. Suicides was the call of the day. Starting at the mailbox, run to the 1st glow stick – 10 squats then back to the mailbox. Mosey back to 2nd glow stick (stopping again at the 1st to perform 10 squats) for 20 Merkins, then back to the 1st glow stick (10 squats) and then mailbox. You get the idea. 3rd glow was 30 Monkey Humpers, 4th glow as 40 LBC’s. When completed, return back to the top of Twin Team. On the way down, collect the glow sticks and perform each exercise 1 more time. Mosey back to covered entrance at Betty Weaver. 10 minutes of Broga after a tiring week for these SOJ regulars.

Numbers, Names, Announcements. In the conversation, YHC forgot to take us out but PAX got the idea.

Announcements – a lot happening in September (Field Day, BRR, IronPax, etc.). See slack for details. Prayers for those affected by Covid and those in Afghanistan. If you are looking for a family hike this weekend, see the link below. A few water crossings and 1/2 way up the trail there is a nice swimming hole with rock jumps and waterfall. Good for dogs and young kids. Parking lot can get full and breweries are all around for afterwards.

Doozy is heading up to Charlottesville Saturday for a Bootcamp. Reach out to him if you are interested in carpooling.

NMS: YHC had planned a Murph this morning, but overnight showers changed plans so we ventured over to do some hillwork. YHC was hoping for some no shows this morning and even a coffeteria was mentioned to replace the workout but that would be unsatisfactory. It had been a while since YHC had visited Twin Team and it did not disappoint. Bullseye and YHC were in awe of the Doozy pace that was set. One only hopes to have that energy when we grow up. Great work this morning gents. I believe the runners put in 7 miles, strong work.

  • Two Fingers – Repeat as Necessary

A lucky 13 arrived for a run around Mary. This is what transpired more or less…

Run West on Grove to Greenway. Take Greenway to Cary then cross over to Ampthill.

Take Ampthill to bottom then climb up Paxton to Cary. Repeat down-and-ups depending on 4, 5, or 6 mile options. Return by crossing over Cary and then back on Grove.

    Saab abides

Great to have Tryhard with us today.  Hard to believe CM had a bigger PAX than HBR this week.

Stay safe folks.  For those with COVID, heal up.  For everyone else, take care of your fellow brothers and sisters.  See you in the gloom!

God is good all of the time!

  • Hill Repeats

4 strong started at 5 for some hill repeats (Every hill in TYA’s neighborhood) 2 times up and back except for the biggest hill Charmian 3 times on that sucker – 5 miles !

3 started at 5:30 and knocked some hills out – 3 miles !

It sure was a hot one way to work guys. TYA good call on the hill repeats that was tough…. Couple weeks out till BRR so – great training !

    See y’all in the gloom…

  • You forgot what?

A notorious nine gathered in the gloom for 45 minutes of Mary beatdown. Well, um, one of the nine forgot to bring his shoes, so he had to run home and then came back to join us about 10 minutes later. So 9, then 8, then 9 again. Here’s what happened:

Mosey west on Grove, hang a left on Luck Lane, Circle up in the First Pres parking lot.

COP: Deadman hang // Helicopters // DQs // Cherry pickers // Imperial Walkers // Russian Soldiers // APDs // LBCs// Tempo Merkins // Plank Jacks // Pickle Pounders // SSHs

7 of Diamonds: Around the four corners of the parking lot. Stop at each corner, 7 Jump squats // Next round: 14 Merkinsr // 21 LBCs // 28 squats // 21 LBCs // 14 Merkins // 7 Burpees. Mosey back to Mary

Triple Check on the blacktop: P1: Wall sit, P2: Flutter Kicks, P3: Run to fence, 10 jump rope skips, run back.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: We’ve all forgotten to bring our gloves, or maybe a water bottle, but our shoes?? that’s a first, Hitch. Welcome to BENDS, a new FNG invited by Jimmy. Saab had a hard time with the Burpees on the last round of the diamond which really messed with the symmetry. But he made up for it with this triumph in the jump roping.

    Great work guys! SYITG.

  • F3 style disc golf

6 LPGA want-to-be’s showed up to a Forge beatdown knowing not what was in store for them. According to the off color, color man this is what went down.

Mosey / try to out run GP coming in hot

COP – DQ’s, Helicopters, Weed Pickers, Russian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers

Mosey to the back of the school at the bottom of the steps Crab Cakes and LBC’s, Box Jump to the top

Find 12 (cheep Wal Mart) Frisbees take one and write your name on the painters tape on the bottom.

YHC will pick an object (as the flag) for each hole. Everyone tees off at the same time (hence the names on the bottom) before you can throw your disc you have to do a burpee for the number of shot that you are on. Start with your first shot is one burpee, your second is two so on and so forth. Once you have taken your shot you run to your frisbee and do your next round of burpees before you shoot again. If you catch an opponents frisbee they have to do an extra 5 burpees as a penalty.

In total I think we did 8 holes possibly 9 (YHC lost track) at minimum 40 burpees but I think most of us did much more than that. I know YHC had at least 2 holes that where 8 shots and twice YHC’s frisbee was caught giving him 5 extra burpees each.

After last hole near the flag stop for a quick round of Man Killers

    BTTF

Numbers / Names YHC took us out

    NMS:

Last Time proved to be the best hands of the PAX this morning, both of the penalty catches YHC had where caught by Last Time and one was off a quick skip that YHC was trying to get around him on.

Frisbees where .10 each at Wal Mart and flew like you would expect a .10 frisbee to fly. They may get you banned from an actual Disc Golf coarse if you where brave enough to play with them in public. For a bunch of 30 to 50 year old goof balls they where perfect.

  • The Cooper

Lucky number 7 PAX posted in high humidity at Timberwolf to take on The Cooper. Here’s what transpired.

    McGruff – WWII’s

Time expired before Vagabond and Nancy could call an exercise

YHC took us out in prayer

    NMMS :

Welcome Brian, now known as Pearl. He’s a guitarist and Pearl Jam sounded too kool so we shortened it to Pearl. You’re welcome.

The Cooper was a good warm up for POG who lapped everyone by the time it was over.

  • All apologies to Oyster

    Mea Culpa

Oyster ended up missing the start of our run last week but ended up running his own route. He did meet us at the end for our COT. YHC offers humble apologies to Oyster for leaving him off the backblast from last week.

  • Swampy Burpees

A lucky 7 turned out for a soggy hot potato Q at WDog. Despite the slop, spirits were high. Bodos grabbed the reins and here’s how it went down:

    COP:

Mosey into the base of the amphitheater for Dead M Hang, Cherry Pickers, Helicopters, Imperial Walkers and Russian Soldiers.

    THE THANG:

Bodos Q: Triple Check with Incline Merkins, WW2 Sit-ups and a lap around the amphitheater steps. One group of 3 and one group of 4. Hand off to BT…

BT Q: Stay put in the amphitheater for a Mint Julep (5 Box Jump Burpees, run to top of steps, 10 merkins, run back down to bottom. Repeat x 5). Hand off to Hitch…

Hitchhiker Q: Mosey to the Carillon field for a shortened Dora (100 Burpees, 200 SSH, 300 Jump Squats). Can’t really remember the last 2 exercises for certain since we ran out of time.

Mosey back to VSF for COT. Announcements: check the backblasts for Sit and Sip, Field Day and Field Trip to Vinny’s Chateau in the great C’ville Mountains. Neutral took us out.

    NMS:

Good to have two father/son combos out in the Gloom this morning, especially with soggy result of a late night deluge. Men molding men! It made things a bit challenging on the triple check with uneven numbers and gave Bodos a headache, but it worked out. YHC brought back some Box Jump Burpees in the pit, much to my own chagrin as Hitch doubled down and kicked off his turn with 100 burpees on the Dora…yikes. I’m not sure if anyone finished the first round since we ran out of time, but YHC was blacking out and may have missed something. T-Claps to Gigabyte and Ishmael for coming out pushing their dads; can’t wait to see them out next time. Way to push, fellas. It was soupy mess out there! See you in the gloom, boys!

    -BT

  • We’re gonna do that again?
