  • A great start to summer

35 PAX converged downtown again for our annual Memorial Day convergence. Weather was a good 30 degrees cooler than in 2019 but the PAX worked up an ample sweat.

COP on Browns Island then split up PAX into 2 groups. Group 1 had Qs from YHC, Corned Beef, Upchuck, and Helix. Upchuck tried to kill the PAX with 11s on the Westrock steps. We were asked to leave the stairs midway through, rumors of a PAX flashing a security guard to have us kicked off were never confirmed but seem plausible.

PAX 2 had Handshake Q at the start then fun from there. Looked like plenty of Burpees on the island. As our tradition we met back up and found our way up to the VA War Memorial. Walk through for a moment of reflection then 22 HRMs and a BOM at the top. Number and Namorama at the bottom. Great 2nd F with refreshments at the end.

NMS: Wow 35 PAX back out, this morning was just perfect. What a great way to start summer off. Glad everyone got to hang around for food and drink afterward, although Hardywood had to split early for a bike date he arranged on Grinder last night. Great to see Emoji and Carpenter posting with this group before they move on to their new cities. YHC worries how Carpenter can help plant some new F3 AOs in NJ once the names Big Pussy and Fat Tony are taken. TClaps to EF Hutton to donated the OJ and English Muffins for the 2nd F even though he is on the IR.

Annoucements: June monthly challenge will be a Passport challenge, similar to a Summer Tour but just for June. Check Slack for details.

  • BB from Thursday

    Warm-up

    Workout

  • Mayorless Sunday

Six PAX with a collective 16 legs took to the trails. The route was Buttermilk to Belle Isle, around the east end, to Northbank. At about the new Northbank connector, YHC and Sippy paused and noted we hadn’t seen Anthrax and FNG Mike for a bit. We wondered if they had taken the “hikers” trail when we took the “bikers” switchback and they might be ahead of us. We turned back and didn’t find them, then turned around and headed to the parking lot. Cars were still there, but no PAX. After backtracking again, we still didn’t find them, then returned to the parking lot to find the cars gone. They had returned via Texas Beach!

It was great to chat with Sippy this morning about various and sundry topics. Otherwise it was a quiet day on the trails – YHC hopes everyone is saving up for the convergence at Belle Isle tomorrow.

  • There was no Hawt Potato

Half of Daville and a few others gathered for Hot Potato workout and it didn’t go as one would expect.

    Hot Potato:

COP – Handshake, a bunch of exercises

Exercise 1 – Handshake – Triple Check at the Rusty Cage (P1 5 Pull Ups then Jerkins, P2 WWII’s, P3 run to Fire Hydrant and Back)

Exercise 2 – Handshake – Triple Check at the Pipe Loop (P1 Run the Loop, P2 Squats, P3 LBC’s)

Exercise 3 – Handshake – Losey up the hill (Long Mosey) with various exercises: Bear Crawl, Bernie Sanders, Squats, Lunges, Boo-ya Merkins, Crawl Bear, etc.

Exercise 4 – Handshake – Partner up (P1 run two poles forward while P2 Bear Crawls and switch until YHC realized there were no more poles)

Exercise 5 – Handshake – Bernie Sanders up the hill then two loops around the Circle and Mosey back to the flag

Exercise 6 – Handshake – 2 minutes of Mary until the timer

Announcements – Memorial Day Convergence at 0700 at Tredegar.

Prayer Requests – Slipping Jimmy and his family after the loss of his mother two weeks ago. Additional prayers for Slipping Jimmy’s father after losing his wife a month shy of 51 years of marriage. Prayers as well for the new chapter in The Carpenters and Emojis life as they move.

NMS – as YHC woke up and checked the Q sheet there was no Q for Breakfest Club and Dogpile so YHC texted Upchuck. Upchuck said that YHC should take it, but YHC said no. Upon arriving at Breakfest Club it came up in conversation again and YHC decided we’d do a Hot Potato. YHC said he’d kick it off and he had a couple thoughts. After 35 minutes of having the potato YHC was feeling inspired by a W-Dog Hot Potato a couple years ago where Swirly kicked us off and tossed it to Oyster and Oyster kept the Potato the whole workout. YHC gets nervous leading such a big group of guys, but considering the workout was 1/2 of Daville and a few others it didn’t seem so intimidating. Thanks for letting YHC keep the Potato the whole time.

  • A crew of two

The night before there were no messages exchanged between the usual Breakfest Crew peeps, so YHC was curious who would be there. Upon arrival YHC discovered it was only us. We ran, we chatted about nothing of major note, it was nice.

Prayer requests: Slipping Jimmy lost his mother a couple weeks back. Prayers for his father losing his spouse 1 month shy of 51 years.

  • Baseball is NOT boring

8 fighters rolled into the place called The Creek for a Friday morning wake-up call that went something like this…

Mosey to the baseball field and circle up around the pitching mound.

COP All IC – 50 SSHs, 10 don quixotes, 10 helicopters, arm circles, 10 hand-release merkins (HRMs), 10 imperial walkers, 10 HRMs, 25 LBCs, 10 HRMs, 10 copperhead squats, 10 HRMs, 20 hillbillies, 10 HRMs.

    Mosey to home plate.

    Nine Innings of Work

Partner up. One partner does a set of exercises at the baseball diamond while the other runs to/around the track and back. First partner starts with 1 burpee, sprints a triple, 5 HRMs, bear crawls to home plate and holds plank until the other partner returns. Next partner increase the burpee by one and does the same set of exercises while the other runs to/around the track and back. Continue the sets up to 9 burpees.

    Hold 6

Line up on the first base line. The person closest to first base takes off sprinting around the bases while the rest of the PAX holds 6 and then does an exercise IC led by YHC. Rotate through the PAX. Exercises included flutter kicks, LBCs, heels to heaven, WWII sit-ups, more flutter kicks, rosalitas (also known as gynos for gynocologist), freddie mercuries.

    Ring of Fire

Circle up around the pitching mound. Hold plank. Each person does 5 HRMs.

    Mosey to the flag.

    Superman…

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements, Pick Two took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Convergence on Monday at 7am at Tredegar
    • Next Friday is Wild Thing’s 65th birthday – he will be at The Creek
    • Plans for a going away happy hour gathering for The Carpenter are in the works

    NMS

YHC played baseball through high school and has heard, “Baseball is boring!” many times in his life. YHC has come to understand that those who say this oftentimes have never played the sport. This is like someone who has never been on a soccer team and has no idea what is going on during a soccer match (things like trying to tie with a 0-0 score and keeping the ball from the opponent).

YHC decided to provide a “fun” baseball experience. The HRMs on the dusty field led to some dirty shirts and shorts! It added to the fun. YHC attempted to match 9 “innings” with the 9 rotations at the baseball field.

Mumble chatter was high. Yardsale is a talking machine. Emoji’s energy is unmatched. Bulkhead always has something witty and funny to say. We all missed seeing Mudface.

It is an honor to lead and YHC will look to lead as many times as possible before departing for Jersey at the end of June.

  • Something We Are Use To

5 Davillians came out to get their miles in for the week

Route – Rutland Loop, skip Knollwood and run the trail loop in Cool Spring Forest. Optional additional loop around Bojangles and run back up Combs Dr.

Distance varied from 3.5 miles to 5 miles

    Great morning for a run.

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Sweet 16

Three amigos converged to celebrate the Q’s 16th wedding anniversary, so naturally, it was 16 of everything. Here’s how it’s told by the OTB SOJ runners who filled the BWE parking lot but were nowhere to be found.

    The THANG:

    COP #1:

    • Warmerama on the BWE soccer field in the usual DTH fashion, except everything was x16 reps in cadence

    COP #2:

    • Mosey down to the track
    • x4 laps completed, with x4 stops per lap, completing x16 reps at each quarter
    • Each lap had: x16 Burpees, x16 2-ct American Hammers, x16 2-ct Ball Dippers, and x16 Dolly’s

    COP #3:

    • Mosey over to the parking lot
    • Polar Bear x16 parking spaces, completing x1 merkin at each line
    • Reverso with lunging all the way back with x1 squat each line

    COP #4:

    • Mosey back to the Flag the long way around and finish off the morning with variable 16-count Mary

    COT:

    • Counterama # 3
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Comments)
    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS: Beautiful morning for a threesome with a couple SOJ studs. After 16 years in the saddle, YHC needs a little bromance here and there. So it was sweet sixteen of everything and turned out to be a decent beatdown – thanks Doozy for some exercise suggestions on the track. YHC hadn’t planned a routine like normal…just knew it was gonna be 16 of everything and we’d do some laps and burpees. As YHC will be out of town for a weekend of beer, brats, and fishing, it was a good thing to get smoked on the front end. The SOJ runners had arrived before we did and were still beating the streets by the time we left…probably lost somewhere in those Salisbury suburbs. As Buzzkill pointed out, the summer heat and humidity is definitely here. SYITG, DTH

  • Honeydo, where are you?

A group of 7 men gathered for a 4th Friday Bro Code run. Gomer texted earlier this week saying he’d be out of town, so Handshake grabbed the Q. We completed and “out back” run. Here was the route: Mosey to behind the school to the trail over to Maremont Drive, right on Willowick, left on Windbluff, right on Raintree, left on Gayton, right on Gayton, right on Gaskins to Westhampton Memorial Park for a small loop around on of the sections of the Cemetery. Reverso.

Announcements: Memorial Day Convergence at Tredegar Monday at 0700.

Prayer Requests: with Memorial Day on Monday prayers for those who have given their life in the service of our country.

NMS – It was a nice morning with the Crew. It was nice to see Greenbow out. Blue Moon used Currahee as a nice pre-run for his training. During the run YHC found out Pinto’s mother and Sprinters grandfather are both buried at Westhampton Backblast title comes for Honeydo’s text yesterday saying “Up for running 4.5 tomorrow” and then he was a no-show. Not sure if he meant with us or not, but I look forward to seeing if he showed up at RAMM.
