    MOLESKIN

Never skip leg day.  YHC repeats, never skip leg day.  But it’s also quite acceptable to sneak in 160 merkins and 40 Burpees along the way.  Oh, and abs are important too.  But also don’t forget the cardio.  Best off to just work it all.  Won’t speak for the entire PAX, but YHC felt it everywhere when done.  UpChuck says YHC is developing a reputation.  Pretty sure he meant for being an assassin, but maybe just for being an ass.

  • 19th Century British Lit

Thirteen budding scholars slipped and slode their way to the Commons for today’s Spider Run. Directions were once again impeccable, listening on the other hand could use a little work. Activate launch mode for:

    The Route
    – Around the baseball field then left on College
    – Right on Lakewood then right on Westham
    – Left on Lindsay to a right on Forest
    – Left on University Boulevard
    – Left on Arlington Circle

    – 5s and 6s take a left on Sawmill
    – Sawmill turns into Shelley
    – Right on Keats which intersects University after a name change to Sharon
    – 5s take a right on University and return via Forest
    – 6s take a left on University to a right on Henrico to the top before returning via University and Forest

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Moleskin
Ample confusion this morning as apparently Pucker doesn’t know the difference between the two Universities and EF Hutton and Bodos had their fill of British Lit after Shelley. Regardless, there appeared to be general positivity towards this route today. Enough so that we may try it again when the sun slowly emerges from her winter slumber to kiss our cheeks with the dawn of the new day.

Who knew we had so many English majors. No time for stopping by woods on a snowy evening, this PAX yearns for early 1800s British prose.

    No announcements today.

    Cheerio!

  • Slippery When Wet

9 Apollo Anton Ohno wannabees awoke this morning dressed for a spelunking adventure along Robious Road. Here is what was rumored to have occurred according to the Greenfield Elementary lunch ladies arriving for the early shift.

Warmarama: Mosey thru the Basketball court ice rink back over to the safe gravel for the following as we awaited for Fresh Prince to arrive in his typical fashion (hot). Exercises included SSH, DQ’s (as requested by Bone Thugs), Dead Man Hang, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Arm Circles. Prince arrives, lets mosey.

COP 1: Mosey across Robious into Greenfield Subdivision. Lindsay along Greenfield Road. Beginning at Woodmont, 30 Carolina Drydocks, 10 Jump Squats. Mosey to next intersection – 25/15, next intersection – 20/20…….ending up at the soccer field parking lot at Greenfield Elementary.

COP 2: Parking Space InchWorms. Inchworms along the parking spaces. At each line perform a merkin. AG for the 6. Return trip was Broad Jumps with Lt. Dan’s at each line.

COP 3: Triple Check: American Hammers, Heals to Heaven with timer touching 3 trees and returning.

COP 4: Burpee Road: Return trip back to Woodmont. Every SUV/Van/Truck along the way, stop for a burpee.

COP 5: Triple Check #2: Back across to Huguenot Park for a triple check including Pole Smokers, Squats with Timer running to the playground and back. 2 rounds completed due to time, BTTF

Numbers, Names, Announcements. YHC took us out.

NMS: With the monsoon impeding the ability for field work over the last few weeks, YHC sent out notice that lights would be recommended this morning for an off campus adventure. To our surprise, ice skates would have been preferred as plenty of black ice was discovered thru out the journey. Snuff came fully prepared for his Olympic speed skating trials with his hooded under armor top. Luckily no injuries along the way. Greenfield Elementary offered a variance to the typical parking lot. Possible future use when daylight is available. Prayers to Fresh Prince and his family during the recent passing of his M’s grandfather. Thank you gentlemen for the opportunity to lead. Always a pleasure to be with you guys.

  • Solid surfaces are not your friend.

11 men launched with the hopes of keeping dry and this is what transpired

Mosey around the track to the far side of the field, enter the field for COP of misc. exercises. It was then determined that running on the field with Blocks was not advisable *denial number 1*

Mosey down to Heartbreak, closer to the school for the normally drier area. Too damn sloppy. *denial number 2*

Mosey up the the raised field for a semi-sloppy/frozen Four Corners. Compounding Four Corners with Merkins, Squats, LBC’s, and SSH’s, then descending.

Mosey to the Tennis Courts, complete icy mess. *denial number 3*

Mosey up to Pemberton Elementary and shuffle across the parking lot and the back asphalt to the covered Bus Loop.

Buss Loop Partner work: P1 runs to the far end while P2 does and exercise. Rotate and work one pole back each round to get to the stop.

Mosey back to the front of Quioccasin Middle, watch Ronnie run and pounce onto frozen Asphalt and almost kill himself.

Touch a tree, 2 rounds: P1 touches 10 trees P2 does Dips, rotate. Second round P1 touches 5 tress P2 Incline Merkins.

Mosey back to the flag for a quick ring of fire and it was 0615.

NMS – YHC had a couple things planned but between black ice and wet ground it was a day of audibles. YHC appreciates the Pax’s tolerance of a lot of improv. The quote of the day was, “this is how you melt the muffins off.” YHC isn’t sure how many times Gomer said it, but it was more than 3 and less than 6 times. Thank you for to the Pax for coming out to celebrate YHC’s 37th year.

  • Breaking Bread – Spring/Summer, 2021

    Breaking Bread – Spring/Summer, 2021

Gentlemen, we put out the call to the PAX this fall, and you all answered. Thank you a ton.

Now, we are onto this Spring and Summer. This message is about asking for your help to make a real-life Impact – both in time and effort – on behalf of a group of people who F3RVA has sponsored for the last 4+ years.

For those not familiar, F3RVA helps by feeding residents in the Medical Respite facility at the Southside Health Center. This is on the Q sign-up sheet as, “Breaking Bread.”

    Openings (as of today):

    March 27 (Saturday)

    April 24 (Saturday)

    May 22 (Saturday)
    May 23 (Sunday)

    June 26 (Saturday)
    June 27 (Sunday)

The Thang: The PAX (sometimes multiple PAX and/or with their family/kids) sign up to bring dinner to 10-15 people recovering from injuries or illnesses at the Medical Respite Clinic on Belt Blvd. This is a place for those who have no other place to recover.

Most of us will never need Medical Respite. That’s one more reason to be grateful for your position in life. Due to COVID, other groups have stopped providing meals. That is F3RVA’s reason to step-up. In 2020, a surge of PAX spirit moved F3RVA to take TWO nights per month instead of one (fourth Saturday and fourth Sunday). Your F3RVA brothers have challenged you to step-up. Many PAX have volunteered to take on the extra load (t-claps; you know who you are). YHC & Company ask that you do the same. Look for the sign-up slots on the Q Sheet. Look for reminders from YHC, who thanks you in advance. And, for those of you who have a Q during the week, please make an Announcement that we need PAX to commit themselves to making an Impact. Sign up.

For those who believe that making a group dinner sounds hard, it is not.

    1. You choose the menu.
    2. You make dinner for 10-15 humans.
    3. You deliver it at 5:30 p.m. (even the time is perfect for F3). Note: due to COVID, we simply deliver the food – we are not allowed inside the building to serve.
    4. The residents will open the door to take the food.
    5. The residents will thank you profusely.
    6. You are done.

Boom. It’s far easier than a Spit Q, a DTH 8-count exercise, keeping up with Gypsy on a run, posting as often as Handshake, Hitch, or Swirly, any CSAUP, doing SSH’s with The Carpenter, or birthing an anything that lives on Hardywood’s farm.

These people need F3RVA’s help (meaning YOUR help). As YHC has said many times, if you want to impress your M or your 2.0s, all the muscle-building workout stories are a paltry second place to making and delivering dinner for Breaking Bread. Tell them about that experience. Don’t get me wrong – doing your own rendition of UpChuck’s Rules for Touch-a-Tree can be riveting. But, this activity will impress the Mrs. or Girlfriend.

Sign up on the Q sheet. Reach out to me with questions. Make an Impact.

  • Good Morning at The Anvil

4 men arrived at The Anvil for a fun workout. Started with parking lot tracers, merkins, cherry pickers, lbc’s and side straddle hops to warm up. Headed to the basketball court to run a few suicides. Someone should really repaint those lines. Went to the jungle gym to touch feet to the monkey bars (Trout taught me this but I can’t remember what it’s called). Next we did a modified Dora. We paired up. 1 Ran while the other did the exercises (60 boat canoes, 100 merkins, 200 lbc’s and 300 heels to heaven. Headed over to the benches. Where we did 20 dips and 20 jumps up on the benches. We repeated this 5 times for 100 of each. Time was up so we headed to the parking lot for numberama, namerama, and a quick prayer by the Q.

I hadn’t seen Mudface in a couple of weeks so it was great to have him back. Rumor is that No Idea will be back soon. Hopefully we’ll see him at Manndate on Wednesday.

  • OG-Style Sunday Funday

20 degrees and frozen trails brought the old crew back together for a 6+mile loop – southside to northside. Lots of great conversation along the way. YHC really enjoyed being on the trails with the old-band after such a long hiatus (months/years?).

    Saab abides

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Today marks 5 years since the first day YHC showed up for F3 and was christened Bodos. 5 years has a big fat asterisk cause it was about 6-8 months before YHC showed up for workout #2, and another while longer before YHC became a regular. So grateful for this group and the fitness and friendship it’s brought into my life! Thankful for you guys. and Congrats to Singer and Oyster for winning the relay race.

  • The Wokest of All Biscuits

After procuring adequate and fully compliant parking, 3 HIM converged on Robinson for the Breakfast Club run. Those some PAX wore pants, the weather was 70 degrees and sunny.

Got in 3+ miles with a scenic route around the ponds to Dogpile. Followed by a direct route back to the biscuit joint that took the PAX past where the giant puddle used to be.

    NMM

TCLAPs to Gomer Pyle and UpChuck for the brisk pace on this one! This was the first time that YHC had ran Breakfast Club from Early Bird, and said establishment was actually open. The biscuit did not disappoint. The “no cash” policy did however. Also, GP may have a future as the next dog whisperer.
