  • Late nights in Short Pump – or – why I don’t Q as often as I should..

Writing late night backblasts is not fun.. But I’m just not a write-the-backblast-the-same-day kinda guy. So here we go..

the INAUGURATION of WaThoHuk fell the day after the election of 2020. Too many must have stayed up late the night before watching returns and learning who our next president would be absolutely nothing about the outcome.

2 of us arrived for the 15 min. pre-run. Lap around the West Broad Village lake and back to the flag.

picked up 2 more and Gypsy led us off:
    Warm up
    30 side straddle hops
    20 imperial squat walkers

    Track work.
400M AYG followed by 200M recovery jog backward. 30 LBCs

400M AYG followed by 200M recovery jog backward. 30 reverse LBCs
    800M AYG.

    Hand off to Greenbow.

    run back to parking lot
    15 merkins
sprint to end of lot, lap back
    10 burpees
    sprint to end, lap back
    20 WW2s
sprint to end, lap the bus loop, lap back
    10 dips
    another lap

    mary
    20 flutter kicks
    20 rosalitas
    20 Suzanne sommers 10/side

    NMS:
great kickoff for a great new AO!
loving the running + PT, is driving me to a new level

Would Q more often, but my contempt for WordPress is strong ??

  • We Need More November Days Like Today

Three F3 brothers enjoyed the warm November morning, while running around the James River. Great conversations made the run even more enjoyable. We need more November Days like today.

  • Special Ed’s Guest Q

9 noble warriors braved the mean streets of the Far West End for a coupon-aided beatdown. It went like this:

COP: Dead man hangs, cherry pickers, DQs, merkins (20 merkins) and Freddie Mercuries. 5 punitive burpees. Sorry no SSHs.

Exercise 1: Run and do 10 merkins at each stop. One person gets to carry the coupon. Total 50 merkins.

Exercise 2: 4 corners with 10 burpees, 20 WWIIs (feel that cool ground), 30 2 count pickle pounders, 40 jump squats

Exercise 3: Elevens with HRMs and flutter kicks – 55 merkins

Exercise 4: 10 donkey kicks, 30 seconds wall sit and 20 seconds balls to the wall, Followed by 15, 45 and 30 and then followed by 20, 60 and 40. After chum bucket made a special ed comment 5 more punitive burpees.

Exercise 5: Curb bear crawl and crawl bear with 1 merkin up to 8 merkins – 36 merkins

Mosey to chin up bars sans coupon – 9 chinups, 18 dips, 7 chin ups, 14 dips and 5 chin ups with 10 dips. The odd numbers threw the PAX off. Do one minute elbow plank.

Finish with merkin ring of fire – 10 merkins, American Hammers, dead man hang, cherry pickers and DQs and 5 punitive burpees.

Closed in prayer. Good luck to Blue Moon and his pacer Gypsy. Prayers are with a teammate of mine who is COVID positive and for civility in politics post election.

Total merkins (including burpees) – 191, not too shabby for the geriatric ward. The Special Ed comes from a name that the PAX gave me due to someone stating they thought today was going to be a special guest Q and I said yeah I am the special guest Q. And somehow that led to the name Special Ed. Even though the Jets su$k, I am sticking with Fireman Ed and yes my mama does think I am special:). Have a great weekend.

    19TH GREEN

    Hello Friends.

Down in Joe-ja some fine southern gentlemen put on a famous little golf tourney each April.  Thanks to Covid that tourney is coming up this week instead.  Up range here at Dogwood Country Club we have our own little tradition unlike any other.  The PAX, fooled by another milestone on the calendar, had little idea of what was to come, but was warmed up and ready to tee off at 0600.  UpChuck was unable to decipher the theme from the number of reps in the COP.  Harvard, my a$$.  During the 4 Corners, Swirly playing speed golf was crossing the Hogan Bridge while the rest of the PAX had yet to make the turn.   As the PAX teed off on ten, a nasty slice sent the PAX into the deep rough of the amphitheater, luckily the PAX was able to pull a 2012 Bubba and hit a miracle shot to get back out and save par.  Moseying over to 16 for the Drive, Chip, and Putt competition, YHC polled Gomer and Swirly, block or no block?  Obviously block.  Perhaps by design, the PAX was hitting range balls rather than Pro V1s making it difficult to reach the green and set ourselves up for birdie.  YHC is pretty certain the PAX was about 6 over through 3, but we’ll just put down 1-under on the ol’ scorecard.  It was the short game, and the long game that let the PAX down.  Never played golf without a few visits from the cart girls and some col’ beer, but it’s always a pleasure to get out and play, nonetheless.  Thanks to all for the birthday goodwill, may the PAX’s days be filled with Eagles and Birdies.  Until next year…

Seven intrepid warriors put in miles before and after the main event. The PAX humored YHC and took the route less traveled. Cary to Freeman past City Stadium, Douglasdale, Rugby to Pumphouse Drive past the Church Roundabout and up the hill to the flag. 2.55 miles in, rougly 1.5 back.

  • Gloves and cards don’t mix

A beautiful fall morning brought out 4 Davillians ready to kick start their day. Here’s what went down. Mosey to blacktop with a lap around to COP.

COP: SSH, LBC’s, DQ, Zombie Russian soldiers (Q mistake/invention named by Mr. Holland), mosey to middle of school for Workout Deck fun. Exercises were as follows: 3 sets, 20 reps, of merkins, flutter kicks and monkey humpers; 4 sets, 10 reps, of squats, SSH, and high knees; 3 sets, 10 reps, of American Hammers, plank jacks, and merkins, with a backwards run to other side of courtyard and back in between sets; 5 sets, 5 reps, of low, slow squats, shoulder taps, freddie mercurys, and 10 second plank; and last, 3 sets, 10 reps, derkins, calf raises and hand clap merkins.

Mosey to flag, 10 merkins, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC’s work and home life has been a lot busier of late, so didn’t have time to compose a workout–no problem, I have the wonderful Workout Deck! The cards can be great, but a Q should still have more of a plan than YHC had (none) and gloves, cold weather and slick cards make choosing and figuring out things a lot more time consuming. Tclaps to Mr. Holland for consistently choosing Aces, YHC does not want to play poker with him; to Opus for knowing all the random songs we talked about, along with the right time for a good polka; and Mudface for NOT listening when YHC called out the exercises, leading to multiple repetions of what is next. To be fair to Mudface, the total lack of a plan was confusing at times. Even with that, a good time was had by all, with mumblechatter about whether a Sharpie can mark a ballot (consensus was yes), 80’s bands (Eurythmics, anyone), and other stuff YHC can’t remember 24 hours later. For the Merkins challenge, total count was 160. Thanks for letting me lead.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing..

  • No I was not.

YHC arrived to find some the Satan’s Hill faithful and one FNG. Some mumble chatter persisted culminating with the decision to flush your system before or after the workout. Hearing that YHC called for a mosey and according to the white Tesla this is what went down.

COP: SSH, DQ’s, IW’s, Cherry pickers, Helicopters, Merkins, LBC’s Flutters. And off we went.

The Thang: Run up to first entrance to first sac. After AGing for the 6, Run to sac end and perform 20 merkins, WWII’s and squats and repeato at starting point. Mosey to next sac. Double sac: perform all 3 exercises at both sacs and starting point (SSHx20, IWx20, Russian soldiersx20). Mosey to the next sac, continue mosey to a cinder block pile in front of new construction. Cindy’s triple check: block curl, block press, running to end of sac. Head BTTF while stopping at each intersection and doing first set of exercises. Wilson shouted 2 minutes and YHC called hustle BTF. Everyone received a bonus minute.

Prayers to Rosco and his career search as well as for our country.

Announcements TYA’s Thanksgiving beat down, see preblast.

Always an honor to lead and thanks for the push! Welcome Beavis!

    • November merkin challenge is in full force – we got in somewhere around 110-115 merkins this morning
    • Prayers for Don Draper’s dad and Spit’s aunt who are in the hospital with COVID
    • Prayers for YHCs grandma and family

    NMS:

YHC was looking to get a little bit of mileage in this morning. According to the watch, we got in 3 miles as part of the beatdown.

Nice to have Spit at Twin Team this morning as he continues on his personal tour.

Lots of chatter today. The complaints regarding the wetness of shoes and gloves during the Killer Bs was hilarious.

Today’s title quote comes from OC, who, immediately following COT, turned to Don Draper and said “We forgot to pray for your scrotum.” It really doesn’t get more title worthy than that.

    Have a great Friday everyone!
