  • Iron PAX Challenge: Week 3: Attempt 1

17 came to NoToll on Tuesday. We did the Iron PAX challenge. We all pushed each other to be better! We listened to music: that days playlist was YHC’s running mix. Apparently that means electronic music. Welcome to Club Boberry.

  • What time? GMT of course

A fearless five ran off into the gloom on a cool and quiet morning in another installment of breakfast club. Total distance including DogPile is 6 miles.

NMS – one car on the entire outbound route allowed the PAX to spread out along the roads – quite nice on a cool morning.

Some discussion of the merits of a fitness device.

  • Cecil King, 104th Timberwolf

Weather was predicted to be cold, dark and wet this morning. Luckily the prediction was wrong, as it was 70 degrees and sunny. 6am hit and we were off!

Mosey to the Corelion cul de sac for welcome to F3 and disclaimer. Side Straddle Hop, Don Quixote, Russian Soldiers, Collard Pickers, LBC, Hello Dolly, Rosalita, and WW2.

Mosey down to the Ha’ Penny Stage, and everyone gets a coupon, then back to long field. My grandfather Cecil King as a member of the 104th Infantry landed in France and remained there for 200 days until VE Day. Partner up. One PAX runs to the end of the field and back with a block (seemed like there and back is at least 200 yards). Count as team like a dora. The other PAX does the exercise. 104 Chest press, 104 Rifle Carry (Cusack) squats, 104 Manmaker merkins, 104 WW2s with coupon.

Take the blocks back. Run to the silver fire hydrant adjacent to the rusty cage. Triple check, run to the cage do 10 jerkins, other partners are doing Lt. Dans and WW2s.

“Nothing in Hell can stop the Timberwolves”. On April 11th 1945, they liberated a large concentration camp at Nordhausen. Back to the large field for a round of 4 corners: 4 burpees, 11 wide grip merkins, 19 two count flutter kicks. 45 american hammers. Swirly liked it so much he started going around again. We leave no man behind, so we joined him and finished as a PAX.

Back to the ghost flag. Circle up. Mankillers (kind of). 10 burpees OYO. Time. Numbers. Names. Announcements (see below). YHC took us out with prayers for MILs of UpChuck and Florence, Tobit’s mother, and for Phonics and his family as they deal with the loss of a parent.

    NMM

Thank you all for the opportunity to lead! Good to talk to Gomer Pyle about military history and service. Great to partner with Handshake, Seymore, and Snuff.

The story doesn’t end well. YHC never met Cecil. He survived the war but was not the same upon return. He died before YHC’s birth. He was not present in my father’s life. This is a reminder for YHC that there are many things to be thankful for due to the service of others. A reminder to not squander the opportunities we have. Also, that mental health is real. SYITG gentlemen.

  • Non-runners only, please

3 men showed up to ‘run’ around and workout on a rainy Friday morning.

    The Thang

Slowsey to blacktop for COP, SSH, helicopters, DQ, LBC’s, Imperial walkers. Slowsey to parking lot for 4 corners. YHC stole this version from Gypsy. Start in middle of parking lot, 10 SSH, run to first corner of lot, 40 calf raises, return to middle for another 10 SSH, second corner – 40 sumo squats, third corner – 40 toe taps, fourth corner-40 flutter kicks.

Mosey to middle of school, partner up, nobody wanted to be Mudface’s partner so he went solo. Switch off between teams, first team lunges while second team completes exercise then runs to catch first team, switch off until both teams complete all exercises. These were 20 each of American hammers, LBC’s, merkins, boxcutters, and Superman.

Slowsey to flag, do an exercise then run to and from where buses were parked, next exercise. These were 20 each of Alabama prom dates, shoulder taps, split jacks and Bobbie Hurleys.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Much of the Daville PAX is competing in the Colonial 70 run tomorrow, so many of The Creeks usual suspects were resting up, and those in attendance enjoyed the slower paced workout. Mudface introduced a different, harder version of flutter kicks and named them, but YHC is hesitant to put that name on a backblast. Just ask Mudface. Was great to catch up with these two, and all stuck around for 20 minutes discussing our wish that people on different sides of the political spectrum would more often engage in civil discussion of issues, instead of insulting each other. That being said, Yardsale’s version of Alabama prom dates is still pretty disturbing, but YHC said this to him in a civil manner! Kidding aside, was great to have exactly that kind of discussion, would be interesting to do at a 2nd F gathering.

Thanks for letting me lead, as usual I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Hunting for magic

6 hunters ran off into the gloom to find some trail magic on a perfect cool morning. Easy bro code run 5.4mi. Handshake took us out.

Old Prescott, Glen Eagles, Shire, Old Pump, Sunrise, Clary Preston, Church, JRP, Ridgefield.

For you future Qs: Cut out all the loops and this is a good base route for 3 mile challenges as well – easy extensions to 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. No traffic on Old Prescott and Glen Eagles. Also all routes are posted in the BB. Excuses.

NMS – we created some new suburban dictionary entries today but found no trail magic, heavy balance of flora v fauna today. Not enough obstacles for Bodo’s’s taste on this route, but ideas are flowing.

    Currahee!

  • Wilson was there to hear me fall.

Rolling down to the AO this morning thoughts crossed my head of being a solo PAX. Rainy and wet along with many Paxers wearing themselves out on IPC. YHC was happy to spot Wilson emerging from his garage to join me. If Nancy fell in the woods would anyone hear it. Yes Wilson would!

    COP We did some warm-ups

    The thang:

We worked hard and the workout is between Wilson and I but sweat was made.

YHC took us out. Thanks Wilson for joining this AM.

  • Fan in the Fall

A lucky 13 converged for some mileage in the Fan. It was great to see everyone and catch up. Weather was perfect this morning for running.

    Labrat took us out.

TYA has a CSAUP coming up with more information available soon via preblast. October 23 relay race from Richmond to Jamestown and back. Run teams, bike teams, and run/bike teams. YHC recommends a canoe/kayak option as well.

    The Routes

East on Grove and a right on Thompson, left on Floyd. Take a left on Shields with 4s taking a left on Grove back to the flag.

5s/6s continue north on Shields with a dog leg on Allison to Monument. Hang a left and head west, turning left on Commonwealth. 5s take Commonwealth back to the flag.

6s take Commonwealth to Patterson and head west with a turn on Wisteria (for those who wanted a light 6 aka 5.87 miles) or Lexington (for those who wanted a proper 6 aka 6.21 miles) to Grove and back to the flag.

  • BONE RUBS

The dog making it an even dozen beating hearts in the Forge gloom embraced the following deal of fate:

    The THANG:

    COP #1:

    • Welcome & F3 Disclaimer
    • Variable DTH-style warmerama in front of the school

    COP #2:

    • Mosey down to the middle school awning, surprisingly lit up for once
    • DTH whips out the F3 DECK
    • Randomly chosen PAX chose three cards for a Triple Check:
    • Stationary men complete High Slow Flutters & LBC’s, while runner High Knees it out to the roses and back.

    COP #3:

    • Mosey to the front of the middle school
    • Choose three new cards (Am Ham’s, Freddie M’s, Rosalita)
    • Complete x50 of each OYO with a loop run between

    ***BONUS ROUND***

    • Entertaining mumble chatter from BoneThugs gave birth to a brand new exercise “Side Straddle Pickle Pounders”, endearingly called BONERUBS. Imagine a plank jack followed by pickle pounder each side as a 4-count.
    • PAX enthusiastically completed x10 IC

    COP #4:

    • Mosey to far side lot of middle school
    • Choose two cards for Elevens (Merkins & Dips)
    • AYG run between sides of lot
    • HARDYWOOD Mary for the SIX

    COP #5:

    • Mosey to the Amphitheater
    • 3min of Box Jumps up & down

    Mosey BTTF for COT:

    • Counterama # 11
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Comments)
    • YHC took us out in Prayer

    NMS:

    • Nothing planned except to have the F3 deck in hand, and as always, the deck did NOT disappoint. Decided to switch things up with random PAX pulling random cards to determine the pain at each COP – turns out it was mostly core today. Don’t know about the rest of you guys but YHC’s pelvic adductors (inner groin) are super sore – assuming it was those 50 rosalitas. Keep posting and keep headlocking fellas! SYITG, YHC, DTH
  • Port Cochere

12 warriors posted in the pre rain gloom for a good beatdown at MM. At least 3 PAX made their way to the AO via foot or bicycle.

The thang: COP at side of Mary, Saab started us off with Don Quixote, then to some WWII’s and finish with Helicopters. Mosey to alley way, stop at each pole/tree. Merkins, WWII, SSH and LBC’s along the way. Mosey to the Port Cochere, pair up. One pax runs, 50 merkins, 100 SSH, 150 WWII (reduced to 50) and 200 LBC. Mosey to side yard, Bear crawl/crab walk between trees, alternate merkins and SSH at trees. Mosey back to school stoping along the way for 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5 WWII’s. COT and Saab took us out.

NMM: Field trip day to First Prep Church. We ambled our way to the church via Grove and came back via Cary. Cary is a little more dangerous, but there is a sidewalk to run along. Watch your head along the way because there are a tone of low hanging branches along the way.

Lots of mumble chatter about the IPC and form this morning. If an exercise is worth doing, it is worth doing it with the right form so you can actually benefit from it….

    TYA OUT

  • Grid Iron Ad Lib

Beautiful fall day for a workout and fortunately a great group of men posted that morning. Even had a FNG, (thanks to Hand Shake for recruiting Mittens).

Began with a warm up in the parking lot and then 11’s at the pull up bars (Pull up and Dips). Short mosey to the soccer field for an ab workout of 4 Corners (5 Heels to Heaven, 10 LBCs, 15 Flutters, and 20 WWIIs), followed by a round with an incremental 5 of each. Was thinking a third round, but after our recent Convergence at Grid Iron…we didn’t need more abs.

On the mosey to the football field the Q called an audible (it’s what happens when you get old and your body tells you to stop), and decided not to do Attila’s favorite, The Beast. Went to picnic tables for 3 rounds of 20 Abyss Merkins and Step-Ups and then to the playground for a Ring of Fire, and American Hammers (after all, it was recently Sept 11th). Then a mosey to the building for 3 rounds of 20 Donkey Kicks and Chicken Peckers. Ended with some stretching.

Happy to welcome Mittens to F3 (snow gloves to an F3 workout in Sept gets you that name).
