  • Remembering 9/11

At 5:30 I was solo and I wanted to recon the west side of the AO a bit more. Old Prescott, Glen Eagles, JRP, Ridgefield with some detours to see how it might work for shorter distance loops.

Some decent short runs / hills on this route on a wide road with no traffic on Glen Eagles. Also plenty of ambient light in that neighborhood for winter runs. Still it is just dark enough and there is just enough traffic that a headlamp is a really good idea for this AO.

NMS – 9/11 nineteen years ago. YHC was on a business trip at our R&D HQ outside of Minneapolis and was rushing to breakfast at the Hampton Inn when one of my work colleagues told me a plane crashed into the WTC. In the prior weeks there were some light / prop planes that were going too close to cities – cant remember where, maybe DC and NYC – my first that is that this was just a over-hyped news report like we had at the time. Then er watched the second plane as it plowed into the tower. We went over to the office and turned the news on and saw the first tower collapse. What chaos.

Apart from the tragic circumstances, this set in motion some incredible logistical challenges for people to return to their families. As the Tech Lead running a development project at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, my team was on site. Most of the team were in more reasonable driving distances in DC and Raleigh, but one team member lived in Rochester MN and was trying to figure out how to get home. Since we were really flip flopping locations and could give each other updates on what it looked like. He ended up starting Wednesday to make the 21 hour drive – one way in a rental. While planning on doing the drive in the opposite direction, Thursday around noon flights slowly opened back up and I decided to stick with flying. MSP was chaos, and after switching fights ten times due to reroutes, and delays, I finally got back to RIC. And in the weird way the world works, despite all different flight numbers and routes, I only got home 30 minutes later than originally planned. I was just happy to be back with my family – and clearly we would never view the world the same.

  • Expansion recon – Pocahontas Run

We are looking for a mid week run west of Gaskins so Gypsy and I did a little recon around the AO. 6 miles starting at Three Chopt / Church Run, then along West Broad village and Pocahontas, around the Wellesley Lake and return.

It was a good run – we are thinking that the expansion location might need to be further west.

    Get some!

    NMS:
The IPC doesn’t leave much room for mubblechatter so the moleskin is typically hard to put out there… typically random ramblings of strange thoughts that happen when its 530 in the morning and you are oxygen deprived from doing something your body will hate you for later. I will spare you all from the wonderings i had this morning while trying to catch Probation on the track as to why i have the channels i do with the free to air antenna… but i can tell you that for some random reason.. i like Grizzly Adams again. 🙂 Another thing… does any one have any idea why the 1st Merkin is the hardest when doing a ladder. The set of 40; i had to talk myself into that 1st one like a drunk sailor trying to coach his 1st step after getting up off the bar stool… I would imagine after the 90 Squats we all looked like drunk sailors trying to run that track…. oh yeah… who thought it was a good idea to make a track out of tiny sand sized rocks.. that crap is like sandpaper if you get a piece in your sock. Glad i didnt get a piece in my sock, but sure thought of it while i was pacing Light House on the 1st lap. Wait a minute?!?!?! where is Handshake? he was on the text tread yesterday.. didnt see him at HoeDown either… Bet he was watching football to late. Dang… Is that Bodos and GomerPyle already on the other side of the track.. we just started??!?!?!? i wonder if they got rocks in their socks. Are spots normal when you are doing 80 merkins after sprinting a 400? I think they are.. it must be the oxygen i’m not getting and yet still think it is a good idea to keep going when the body is screaming stop.. ok.. maybe a little break… stop it self.. no breaks until you are done.
OOOPs.. sorry about the random thoughts..

    Until next time.

    MOLESKIN

This week was nice change of pace from last week’s complex workout. YHC completed it downrange but from the sounds of it, the Daville PAX was glad when it was over.

The PAX this morning crushed it average around 35 minute pace. T-Claps to Phonics for leading the PAX finishing around 31 minutes. Glad to have you back in the gloom this morning brother

Strong showing from Mud Face this morning. He got early to get started and completed around the same time as the rest. Also YHC saw some running skills from him. Great job!

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

12 Runners (11 Davillians and Faceplant) will be running in the Inaugural Daville 35 Relay this Saturday. Stop by to cheer them on anytime between 5am and 10am

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Tour De Tuckahoe

Cooler weather prevailed today. Pre-run talks of F3 camaraderie and what it means to be a part of this group and taking care of each other. Swirly needs a bike too.

Off we went hitting three local AOs. It was dark, somewhat hilly, but it felt like Fall.

It was great running with Upchuck – pushing the pace and conversation. I liked your theory on the early morning Volvo rendezvous better than our other Ziontown runner’s more factual statement.

Great to see everyone again, despite no longer having my pet raccoon in tow.

    Marv took us out.

  • That is a long end zone!

The gloom’s was a brilliant sunny and 72 as YHC descended down Satan’s hill to meet the PAX. 5 strong warriors came out to start the week right. Really good to see Satan’s hill getting some regular attendance beyond the New Market faithful.

COP- Mosey for a little, SSHx20, DQ’s, Cherry pickers, Dead man hang, Helicopters, Arm circles, There may have been a few more but that is between me and the PAX.

Mosey to base of Satan’s Hill for an SH Beast.

3 stops up the hill, 3 stops back down after turning around at corner. 6 each of 6 exercises with 6 rounds.

    Merkins

    Squats

    WWII’s

    Carolina Dry docks

    Lunges

Battery of 6 each Dollies, Flutters, Rosalita’s.

Mosey to Flag where Wilson finished us off with 5 minutes of Mary.

    Numberama, Namerama,

Announcements F3 camp out 10/3 see preblast.

Prayers to all those struggling. YHC took us out in prayer. Be the light in others days! Make today Awesome!

  • Monday Tapering Run

9 Davillians got in one last practice run on the 10k loop before this race this Saturday. Since this is tapering week, we cut the route short by starting/finishing at Atlee HS to get in 3.75 miles

The weather this week is great for running. Get out even if you are not training

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Full parking lot at Hoedown

18 eager PAX got their week started off right at Hoedown on a muggy 70+ degree morning. We did:

COP on blacktop: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks.

THE THANG: Start with 4 Corners: 10 Burpees, 20 Hand Release Merkins, 30 V-Ups, 40 Jump Squats. Run the long way and bear crawl the width. Repeato but add 5 reps on all 4 corners.

Partner up & head over to Jerkin bars. Too many PAX so split up groups – 3 sets of 20 PLTs with others do 3 sets of 10 Jerkins. Mosey across street to 3rd. 50 Reverse Crunches OYO.

Partner up again: Wheelbarrow across then back. 60 LBCs. Wheelbarrow there & back again. Mosey back to Triple check alley: Triple Check of Donkey Kicks, Flutterkicks & run the loop.

NMS: There were 5 PAX at 5:26 and YHC had a few ideas for what to serve up. 12 cars later in 3 minutes and those plans changed. Kubota last night asked about 27 burpees to honor the win of the Formerskins. With Gypsy and Fireman Ed nursing their teams losses YHC opted against that.

Now that we are in mid-September Hoedown is back to form as the Darkest AO in RVA. Great to have 18 out to start the week. Been a while since we had that out at Hoedown. Good to see Huggie Bear post at Hoedown and to have Shiplap back from his Honeymoon. We did some pickle pounders at the finish in his honor.

Announcements: Iron Pax tomorrow will be 3 miles of running + 300 Merkins and 250 squats. Bring your running shoes – tomorrow at heartbreak ridge, noToll, or Daville. Also 3rd F Zoom tomorrow night at 8:00.

  • Dont back dat a$$ up

While waiting for everyone to gather for the morning beatdown Yardsale came flying in on two wheels and proceeded to BACK into a parking space which put Opus’s blood pressure through the roof. He’s got some strong feelings about back in parking and was so fired up he started the hot patato with the COP which I dont remember any of the exercises. He then went into a triple check of donkey kicks, lunges, and something else but cant remember, maybe heals to heaven? He then passed it to mr. Holland who had use job over to the parking lot and do suicides on the parking lot stripes, 1st station we did merkins (10), 2nd we did american hammers (20), and the 3rd burpes (25), did this 3 times and increased reps.. then it was passed to Yardsale, who tolds us to partner up and did a combination of balls to the wall and touch 6 trees, however, the most disturbing part of his explanation was this ass backing shaking movement that would probably be banned on Netflix which should tell you how disturbing it was to witness. Then mudface ran the fastest I have ever seen this man run back to the play ground, again triple checked with fat boy pull ups, regular boy pull ups and run and touch the school was the 3rd. Did that 2 times and time ran out. Ran back to the parking lot, numbered around, announcements, and Opus let us out… great time this morning fellas..learned a lot…Trout

  • Breakfast Club Appetizer

Breakfast Club is the chips and salsa to DogPile’s burrito. Sure you can have one without the other, but why?
