  • Pickleball at 45MM

    Pickleball at 45MM

    YHC greeted eight strong men for the first pickleball at 45MM. Moseyed to the tennis court and did COP as follows: Deadman hang x 10, helicopter x 10, imperial walkers x 10, SSH x 10. Played double and single.

    A couple of things to note:

    • Speakeasy played tennis through high school and he quickly picked it up.
    • Given his first time play, Singer played really strongly. He did solid returns and volleys.
    • Fergie and Anthrax played pickleball first time and they seemed to enjoy it a lot.

  • I’m Thristy

    TYA showed up on crutches. We had a late comer from Charleston SC, Chaka, join us. (A good idea is to stay around the flag and do the warm-up before taking off. Another good idea is to bring your flag! Our late comer saw the flag and spotted us around the back of the school.) Hitchhiker was disappointed we didn’t play pickleball. Everyone got introduced to Mike Tyson; the exercise, not the Man.

    Announcements:

    Pickleball! Mondays and August 26! Hitchhiker’s summer fun activity is proving very popular. Swirly says he’s going to take Bleeder down, as soon as he finishes watching a few more youtubes on how to play pickleball.

    Afterwards, we drank some bottled water. In these temperatures and humidity, it’s a good idea to bring water to drink!

  • Puckers 11s & Pickleball

    YHC saw the Q was open for today and filled the need if only to ensure I had to be there in the morning. It was another beautiful day in RVA. 4 strong arrived for what they may have assumed was a well planned workout – including Chaplain on his summer tour. What in fact occurred was this…

    Mosey to corner of Grove and Westmoreland for a geriatric warmup: Deadman’s Hang, 10 Don Quixotes, 10 Helicopters, 10 Arm Circles/5 Big Arm Circles, 15 Imperial Walkers, 20 Flutters and 20 SSHs.

    Mosey on to the back of the school and do 20 WWIIs OYO then onto to the fields for the first of the planned exercises – along the way Hitch mentions he had 4 pickle ball paddles in his minivan, conveniently. YHC took that into consideration and the “plan” was adjusted.

    The group perfectly executed Pucker’s 11s, performing a set of exercises at all 11 trees along Cary Street. First 3 Burpees at each tree, then 10 LBCs. YHC then dropped most of the rest of the plan for the morning, sent Hitch to his car to get the pickle ball paddles while the remaining three did a triple check on the blacktop (Wall sit, elbow plank, run up/Bernie Sanders back).

    Hitch returned with the paddles and we were able to get a little instructional time in, a doubles match and then a singles match as well. Thanks Hitch for mentioning it.

    Appreciate the opportunity to lead this morning. I felt like I was in a pickle ball promotional video given the many plugs Hitch offered for the fastest growing sport around.

    Announcements – July 4th convergence at Dogpile 7AM, and Hitch is planning a Back to School Pickle Ball convergence on August 26th (I believe). More to come. Maybe you can even get F3 pickle ball swag at the next pickle ball outing!

    Arrive at 520something. Florence first on the scene. No PAX from north of the James? Anthrax remedies the situation. Shovel flag planted, 530 hits, speaker turns on to the classic album from Tom Waits, Rain Dogs. Off we go onto fields of adventure unknown.

  • The Three Amigos

    At 0527 YHC pulled up to Mary to see an empty parking lot. In the distance the Bat Mobile could be seen but it wasn’t clear if anyone was in the car. Moments later Bleeder exits, so there were 2. At 0529 Fergie pulls up, so then there were 3. With SOJ Takeover happening this week it was clear out Q was not coming (YHC hopes the original Q is ok), so YHC took the Q.

    Mosey to the Recess Blacktop for a COP of various exercises.

    With a pax of 3 we quickly assembled for a Triple Check. P1 Wall Sit, P2 WWII’s, P3 Run to the Fence and back.

    Mosey to Lil’ Blue to retrieve the lil’ Cinderblocks. Mosey back to the Pavilion to complete various exercises. Mosey back to lil’ Blue to deposit the blocks.

    Mosey to the northwestern corner of Mary for a Four Corners. Mosey to the first corner and complete 10 HRM, second corner 20 Squats and 10 HRM’s, third corner 30 WWII’s, 20 Squats, 10 HRM’s, fourth corner 40 SSH’s, 30 WWII’s, 20 Squats, 10 HRM’s.

    Mosey over to the Benches for 10 single count step ups, 20 Dips, 10 Derkins.

    Mosey back to the parking lot for 45 seconds of stretching.

  • He Gave Himself a What?

    10 men of character (or just characters) assembled in the haze for the latest edition of 45MOM. Temperatures were sunny and 70. According to the tomato counting her colleagues efforts, the following might have happened.

    Mosey along the sidewalk to the corner of Westmoreland and Grove. Circle up.

    SSHs (50), Don Quixote (5), burpees, let’s try DQs again (maybe 3), 10 burpees, Imperial Walkers 7, LBCs 20, Hello Dolly 7, Rosalita’s 7, Scorpion Kicks, Inverted Scorpion Kicks, HRMs.

    Mosey about 9 feet to the west/southwest to the picnic tables for 11’s.

    Incline merkins and step ups.

    Mosey to the blacktop. Dora 100-200–300 with a twist.

    100 merkins (split 50/50), 200 WWIIs, and 300 SSHs. Twist is 5 boo-yah merkins between sets. After about 50 WWIIs, the Q realized that was going to take all day, so audible to 4-count flutter kicks (or have Bleeder do some kind of belly dance for the tomatoes). We knew he could play pickle ball; apparently, he can belly dance, too.

    Mosey to the tennis courts for a Beast (redux). 6 sets of 6 exercises. Squats, monkey humpers, dry docks, and we are running out of time…

    Summer Tour…continues.

    For SOJ takeover and Summer Tour…Recommendation to Traveling Qs: learn / explore the AO before Qing, especially if the AO is new to you.

    Breaking Bread needs a couple of July sign-ups. New guys: this is F3RVA’s volunteer group. Give this a try. It’s far easier than you think. 4th Sat/Sun of every month. 5:30. You make dinner for 8-12 people recovering from a medical issue. Super rewarding.

    NMS: Bodo’s has a friend whose motto is, “If you can’t give yourself a vasectomy, who can you give one to?” So, he did. With a mirror. And, wait for it, his wife watched. YHC thinks this says something about trust in a marriage. Is this is a sign of “complete trust” (We can share this moment!) or the total absence of trust (She wants to make 100% sure he goes through with it)? Perhaps a topic for the next F3RVA discussion group.

    Handshake is scouring YouTube for videos to see if this is a better way to go. Saab points out the financial savings this would offer. See what people miss when they pay for a gym membership?

    YHC turns 7 in F3RVA years today (at $20/month, roughly $1680 in savings, Saab!). Thank you to HoneyDo for hounding me to join. Thank you to Bleeder for trying to kill me the first day (or at least make me puke, which YHC still has never done).

    This group has been transformative for YHC. The fitness side is simple. YHC is far more muscular, and the fat has been pushed further from the midpoint of the torso. The results are obvious: Mission not accomplished. 2nd F has been friendships galore built during beatdowns, runs through the woods, social events, and countless breakfasts at ETs and Libbie Market. Thank you.

    The real magic has been in the 3rd F. A long time ago TYA shared with me a video that should be titled,”It’s not about you.” The 3rd F is not about a specific religion; it’s about faith demonstrated by doing things for other people. Each of us can do that and collectively we can do that. This group has provided a set of role models, especially among the Old School guys, who remind YHC regularly of the importance of being there for other humans. Help the poor, visit the imprisoned, and help to carry other people along the walk of life (and be ready to welcome their help when you need it).

    Onward – Given that Pigskin is Respect, Respect, Respect AND is roughly 12 in F3 years, YHC predicts the best is yet to come.

  • Go for the Headshot

    4 men ready to dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge converged at Mary for an early morning dodgefest. Here’s what happened:

    COP: standard fare

    7 of Diamonds on the blacktop: 7 Burpees in each corner. 2nd round: 14 4x Flutters // 21 Merkins // 28 squats // 21 Carolina Drydocks // 14 LBCs // 7 WW2s.

    Dodgeball! Seymore + Bodos v. Last Call + Hitchhiker. If you get hit, run to the other end of the tennis courts, 3 burpees, run back and jump back in the game. If both men get knocked out before the other is back, game over. Team Seymore + Bodos edged out the win 2 games to 1.

    Play of the day goes to Hitchhiker, who caught a ball hurled at him by Seymore while holding 3 other balls.

    SMS: Apparently dodgeball is not a draw for the pax. Really want to do this again with a bigger group- it’s SO MUCH FUN . We did find TYA huddled in a corner of the blacktop trying to repair his bike, but he would not join us. Neither would 4 other guys working out around the playground. And Handshake slept in. ?

  • Born to Burpee

    7 studs said no to the fartsack and gathered for a beatdown at Mary. Here’s what went down:

    Quick COP on the corner of Commonwealth and Grove.

    Burpee Alley: Run the length of Hanover from Commonwealth to Shadwell and perform 3 burpees at every lamppost/streetlight. Crunchy Frogs IC for the six. Mosey across Grove to parking lot.

    Wall to Wall: Partner up. Round 1: P1 runs to wall and performs 10 2x Chicken Peckers, P2 People’s chair 3x. // Round 2: P1 runs to wall and performs 10 Donkey Kicks, P2 wall sit. 3x. // Round 3: P1 runs to wall and performs 10 2x Dirty Hookups, P2 Chicken Peckers, or balls to wall. 3x. Mosey east down Grove to Lock Lane. 

    Lock Lane: Stop midway for ab exercises IC

    Triple Check in the First Pres lot P1: WW2s // P2: Hand release merkins // P3: Run to fence, Bernie back. Audible after 2 rounds. Mosey back to Mary. Stop on the corner of Westover and Cary for more ab exercises.

    NMS: a fun group this morning, lots of good mumble chatter, also lots of running. Shakedown is happy to take his shoes off and show you his five finger toe socks.

  • Southside Complications

    YHC got the 50/50 committal from an FNG, which in F3 parlance means ‘not a chance in hell.’ Best practices according to Shakedown: ‘offer to pick him up on the way in.’ Lesson learned.

    Ruckers headed out and the warmarama commenced: SSHs, Don Quixotes, helicopters. Imperial squat walkers… what? Is that some kind of complicated southside mating dance? LBCs, then some Rosalita whips… what? It’s true what you’ve heard, the SOJ evolution has led to some exercise inbreeding.

    Mosey to the pavilion for some 5 station picnic table rotation: incline mirkins, dips, step ups, dirty hookups and WW2s.

    Mosey to the basketball courts for a mini-beast: burpees, LBCs, mirkins, jump squats, heels to heaven and Lieutenant Dans. Then we ran the loop.

    Some nice wall work: 3 rounds of wall sits, 15 donkey kicks OYO, and balls to the wall. With a bonus round of dirty hookups.

    Mosey back to the flag for some ab Mary x5 with a 1.5 minute elbow plank to finish it out.

    Ruckers came back and we took it out in the COT.

    Grateful to be out there in the gloom with the guys – way to put in the work. Won’t make the same mistake with the FNG next time.

  • Bleeder’s Revenge

    An intrepid six convened for 45MOM. After some COP stretching, we jumped right in.

    OLD 100. Perform a set of exercises, run the track, wait for the six

    • Round 1: 100 Squats. 
    • Round 2: 90 2x Flutter Kicks. 
    • Round 3: 80 2x Mountain Climbers. 
    • Round 4: 70 LBCs. 
    • Round 5: 60 Carolina Drydocks. 
    • Round 6: 50 WW2s. 
    • Round 7: 40 Merkins. 
    • Round 8: 30 Plank Jacks. 
    • Round 9: 20 Jump Squats
    • Round 10: 10 Burpees. Sprint back to the flag.

    Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS: Is the track at MM really .25 miles as claimed? Lots of mumblechatter and testing of distances to determine the answer. Bleeder saved all his energy for the very last sprint back to the flag- the man’s still got it.
