Mary Munford Elementary

  • Lady Gaga and the Gang

Nine of RVA’s finest gentlemen converged in the dark lot of Mary for a Thursday morning beatdown. Seeing that YHC drove past the PAX at 5:25 to make a drop off on the blacktop, Pucker asked if there was a “surprise” waiting for later in the workout. Indeed there was…

COP on the blacktop. Normal COP stuff today

Chutes and Ladders at the Treeline: Run two trees, Bernie Sanders back one tree, 5 merkins. Then run two more trees, back one tree, 5 more merkins. Rinse and repeat to the last tree.
Round 2: Same program with WW2s.
Round 3: Same program with 3 Burpees at each tree

GAGA BALL: The pax moseyed back to the Gaga Pit, at which point the SURPRISE Q emerged in the person of 10 year old Franny Widmer, aka Lady Gaga, aka Poker face ,aka Gagaball champion of Mary Munford school. Franny instructed the Pax on the rules of Gagaball, although she suspiciously continued to update us on the rules through the play. The pax played several rousing games of Gagaball, the twist being that when eliminated you step out of the pit and perform the exercises directed by the Q. Franny won most of the games but the grown men won a couple too.

TRIPLE CHECK: P1: Wall sit, P2: American Hammers, P3: run to the benches at the front of the school, 5 dips, run back.

COP, COT, Numberama, Namerama. YHC took us out

NMS: Thanks for welcoming the surprise Q today. Last night when talking to Franny about my ideas for the workout this morning, Franny suggested Gagaball , and suggested that she herself could come and teach us how to play. Kudos to the kid who was willing to wake up at 5am on summer vacation and show us the ropes!

  • Mary’s hottest potato

A small but mostly respected Pax joined for a Hot Potato and this is what happened:

Swirly – COP, Jerkin Gym with various exercises for 15 minutes

BT – Parking Lot Tracers, Triple Check, etc

Handshake – Shora (Short Dora) with 50 HRM’s (each partner completes 25), 100 Jump Squats, 200 SSH’s, back to Jerkin Gym for (2) Rounds of 5 Jerkins, Mosey back to flag for 2 minutes of streching.

    Announcements:

    • Hitchiker has volunteered to Q the run for anyone would like
    • TYA is Q’ing at The Bridge. It sounds like Saab, Circle K, Upchuck? are going too. If you’d like to possibly Clown Car please reach out to them by Slack or Text
    • Houseparty VQ tomorrow at Rock and Roll

    Prayer Requests:

    • Fico recently lost his friend, Mike Wassmer, who was a great person and had a big impact on lots of people
    • Continued recovery for Lab Rat
    • Splinter’s Aunt
    • Upchuck’s co-worker

Moleskin – It was a quiet morning at Mary, especially with not having TYA or Saab to distract us. YHC enjoyed having a Hot Potato, they never disappoint.

  • There is always time for Burpees

16 of Richmond’s finest men gathered in the parking lot at Mary Mumford ES to see who would be the SOJ Q for the morning. This is what was said to have happened

Mosey to the basketball court for disclaimer and COP

DQ’s – 5 Burpees OYO, Helicopters – 4 Burpees OYO, Hillbillies – 3 Burpees OYO, LBC’s – OK TYA if you insist we will do 2 Burpees OYO but the last exercise is 10 Burpees OYO

    Mosey to the soccer fields

In the middle of the fields there is a bucket and surrounding the bucket are 12 frisbees set out like the numbers on a clock. Each frisbee has an exercise written on it. You run from the bucket to a frisbee do 25 of that exercise and run back to the bucket do 5 Burpees and move clockwise to the next frisbee. Work all the way around until you’ve been to every frisbee.

    Mosey to the tennis courts

    4 Corners Prostitute, corner 1 – 10 WWII’s, Corner 2 – 20 Scrunchy Frogs, Corner 3 – 30 American Hammers, corner 4 – 40 LBC’s

    BTTF

Numbers / Names Bodos took us out

Announcements: Sign up to Q at the Bridge Ministries

    NMS:

YHC was all set for the Q this morning but got a bit nervous when such a large crowd gathered. In my head we would have about half of the crew that showed up but I am glad the numbers where bigger than YHC expected. Burpees are always a crowd pleaser and YHC is happy to (liberally) dish them out with a side helping of running.

“If your presence doesn’t make a difference to someone around you, your absence won’t make a difference”

  • Just a Walk in the Park

A cool, but dirty, dozen worked out today. According to the squirrel that may have urinated on some of us during box cutters, these were some of our antics:

    -Lots of talk of Raptors

    -Huffing the new car smell

-Lengthy and sweaty embraces by members of our Pax and members of a transient running group. What happens in the canyon, stays in the canyon….

-A Wedding Singer doppelgänger spotting; other than being shirtless, waxed back, and neon orange shorts

Thoughts go out to our Pax members who are recovering. Handshake took us out.

  • It’s not a Joke

A perfectly divisible twelve gathered in the gloom for 45 minutes of Marian joy. Once it was clear that Fudd was indeed present and it was not just an apparition, we moseyed forth at 0530. Here’s what went down:

COP on the blacktop: normal Bodos stuff

Triple Check: P1: Copperhead Squats // P2: Ab exercises called by the Q // P3: Run to the pavilion, 50 jump ropes, run back. Switch.

Dora on the tennis courts: 100 Merkins // 200 LBCs // 300 SSHs

Ring of Pull ups: Plank up around the pull up bars and each pax member jumps up in turn to preform 5 pull ups. Second round:3 pull ups while pax performed incline merkins.

Numerama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: We’ve all been talking about Fudd moving back to RVA for a while, but Swirly thought it was a big joke until today. Anthrax just learned what a “backblast” is and didn’t know about “Slack.” Fudd kept complaining about how humid it was, apparently no one sweats in Colorado. Welcome back buddy!

  • World Cup Preview 2022

9 of USMNT soccer studs came out to Mary to get a scrimmage in before World Cup play begins. Hitchhiker led us in some stretching and then divided us into teams. A quick of recap of what transpired….

The Golden Boot was given to Goldberg and Snuff, both delivered an arsenal of goals.

Handshake and Upchuck were the Defensive MVPs with their defensive tactics on the football field translated well on the pitch.

Hitchhiker wins best game plan with not alerting anyone when he decided to randomly switch teams.

TYA wins best play of the game with his beautiful slide tackle on Shiplap. Textbook form and has the bruise to prove it now. It was worthy of being on Sportscenter’s Top Ten. You just can’t coach heart…

With the wet field, many slips and falls were had (some more for others…), but fun was had by all. Luckily no injuries came about!

    Great idea and Q Hitchhiker!

Numberama, Namerama, Hitcherhiker took us out.

  • Balls in the Mist: Reprise

12 warriors and the ghost of Toga gathered in the mist for 45 minutes of Mary. Here’s what transpired:

COP: Mosey to corner of Grove and Westmoreland. Deadman hang // Helicopters // DQs // Acorn Pickers // Imperial Walkers // Ukranian Soldiers // 1 legged APDs // LBCs // Hand release Merkins // Inverted Crabcakes // Elbow Plank to Pickle Pounders // SSHs 21s // 5 burpees

Lindsay: 30 Dips at the Picnic Tables // 10 Merkins at the school entrance. Repeato decreasing and increasing by 5, always total of 40.

Dodge Ball! : Mosey to the Tennis Courts. Teams of 6. When you get hit, run to the other end of the courts and do 3 burpees, run back and then jump back into the game. Headshots allowed. After 5 minutes, whichever team has the most players on the court wins. We played 3 five minute games, Team A (aka “shitheads”) won one game and Team B (aka “awesomeness”) won 2 games.

COP back at the flag, American Hammersx50 IC.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: It felt like a reprise of the most commented BB ever with the misty weather and plenty of slippery balls. Many amazing sports-center worthy plays, and many terrible middle aged men throws. Handshake had some highlight moments, TYA is surprisingly wily, and Shiplap likes taking out men nearly twice his age. so much fun!

Praying for comfort, peace, justice and change for the people of Uvalde and for our violent society.

  • On the ground???

13 warriors gathered for an itchy version of a Tuckahoe Takeover of 45MOM. Here’s what went down:

COP: Mosey to the side of the school for SSH, Don Quixote, arm circles, dead man hangs, merkins, and LBCs.

Mosey to the field for a set of exercises at each of the 11 trees that line Cary Street: burpees (55 in total), squats (110 in total), reverse crunches (55 in total), and merkins (110 in total).

Next, we went to the tennis court for 3 sets of PLTs. Then, with the same partner, we played catch me if you can. 2 rounds with 5 burpees.

We then moseyed to the flat top for a triple check: balls to the wall, Freddie Mercurys, and run to the tennis court fence.

Finally, we circled up back at the flag for a round of American Hammers (yes on the ground), LBCs, Alabama Prom Dates, and merkins.

Numberama, nameorama, and the Q took us out.

NMS: It was great to be back at 45MOM and see a bunch of familiar faces and several new ones. The field near Cary Street has gone rogue, with lots of spiky/itchy plants. Be warned. See you in the gloom. Ronnie out.

  • Field Trip Day

10 strong pax members arrived for the regularly scheduled programming – although one normally punctual pax member moseyed in a couple of minutes late. Here’s how it went down…

Moseyed to blacktop for a warmup. 25 SSH, dead mans hang OYO, 10 DQs, Arm Circles small/big and forward/backward, 25 flutters, 10 Merkins.

Time for a field trip – moseyed to Reveille Church first for a triple check. Dips on benches, WWIIs and run a lap. Then moseyed to front of Church for a Oora. 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs and 300 SSHs run Bernies Sanders to end of drive and runs back.

Returned to Campus to the pavilion for partners to alternate 10 pole smokers and wall sits for 5 rounds. Finished with a round of merkins at the flag.

Numberama, Namerama. Prayers for Labrat and Tryhard’s family.

HDHH being organized for next Wednesday likely at Answer Brew Pub more details to come. Blood Drive on Saturday June 4th at Epiphany Lutheran Church see Slack channel for more or tab on Q sheet to signup. Also TYA has signed up RVA to Q the Forge once/month see TYA for details.

  • 45MOM – Wedding Edition

8 gents arrived to wish Mary well on her upcoming nuptials. This is what transpired, more or less….

    • Run around the circle/square/block while partner does a series of exercises: LBC, HR Merkins, M-Climbers, Squats.
    • Tennis Court Crawls: Bear, Crab, Crawl-Bear, Polar. Pause for exercises between each court

YHC appreciates the well wishes on his daughter’s upcoming event, and condolences regarding the state of his checking account. Enjoyed observing Hitchhiker learning the stark economic differences between Korean weddings and those of the USA…

    Saab abides
