Tag: 45 Minutes of Mary

Mary Munford Elementary

  • Round & Round & Round

13 mighty men emerged from the gloom to gather for a Mary beat down. Here’s what transpired:

COP on the blacktop: SSHs // Deadman hang // DQs // Cherrypickers // Imperial Walkers // Russian Soldiers // Crabcakes // Inverted Crabcakes // Merkins // Pickle Pounders // High Knees IC

OLD 100. Perform a set of excercises, run the track, wait for the six

    • Round 1: 100 Squats.
    • Round 2: 90 2x Mountain Climbers.
    • Round 3: 80 2x Flutter Kicks.
    • Round 4: 70 LBCs.
    • Round 5: 60 Carolina Drydocks.
    • Round 6: 50 WW2s.
    • Round 7: 40 Merkins.
    • Round 8: 30 Jump Squats.
    • Round 9: 20 Lunges
    • Round 10: 10 Burpees. Sprint back to the flag.

Numberama, Namerama. YHC took us out.

NMS: YHC likes Old 100 because it offers a well-rounded balance of cardio and strength-training, working nearly every part of the body. But it does get a bit old. Guess that’s why they call it the Old 100.

  • Esther Williams Spread

A lucky 11 descended upon 45 minutes of Gerry to see if the velcro on their Depends would hold. This is what transpired, more or less….

COT: Light stretching, merkins, and what have you

Early Bird Special: Bear Crawl, 10 Merkins, Crab Walk,10 WWIIs. Traversing about 6 trees.

Next: 10 Merkins and 10 Dips. Run point to point. 3 iterations

Catch me if you Can: One Lap. Partner does 5 merkins while other runs backwards.

Balls to Wall, Chicken Peckers, Bear Crawls, Out and Back Run, Donkey Kicks…out and back run

Partner Up: Partner runs out and does 5 pull ups while other partner does series of exercises. 4 iterations: Merkins, WWII, MC’s, Dollys.

Finish: Suicides and Crab Walks, then ring of fire.

    NMS:

Beyond the din of TYA’s excessive commentary not much to add…

YHC is continuing to be mistaken for TYA, you can make pretty much any running route phallus-shaped, and Esther Williams had it going-on for a randy 4th grader.

    Announcements:

Thoughts and prayers to Bleeder’s mom who is in the hospital.

Ongoing support to TYA as he continues his treatments.

    Saab abides – when able.

  • Jenny Maraghy for the Win

A fine 14 gathered in the gloom for a 45 MOM beatdown. Here’s what transpired.

COP: All IC. Deadman Hang // Helicopters // DQs // Cherry Pickers // Imperial Walkers // Russian Soldiers // Monkey Humpers // Crabcakes // Freddy Mercuries // LBCs // Merkins // Inverted Crabcakes // Pickle Pounders. Mosey to corner of Commonwealth and Hanover.

Burpee Alley: Run the length of Hanover from Commonwealth to Shadwell (approximately .25 to .5 miles, roughly) and perform 3 burpees at every lamppost. Mosey across Grove to parking lot.

Wall to Wall: Partner up. Round 1: P1 runs to wall and performs 10 donkey kicks, P2 Balls to Wall. 3x. // Round 2: P1 runs to wall and performs 10 man-makers with coupons graciously left by Jenny Maraghy, P2 wall sit. 3x. // Round 3: P1 runs to wall and performs 10 2-count wall climbs, P2 Chicken Peckers, or balls to wall. 3x. Mosey east down Grove to Lock Lane.

Lock Lane: sprint to Lampost 1, Bernie Sanders to Lampost 2. Mosey to First Pres lot.

    Triple Check: P1: WW2s // P2: American Hammers // P3: 50 2-count Mtn Climbers. Mosey back to the flag

NMS: Driving by that little walled parking lot every day, YHC has been scheming of how to design a routine around it. Did not anticipate the presence of coupons lying for some reason in the lot; we can only assume that Jenny Maraghy real estate team must also gather for beatdowns during their lunch break. The length of long run down Hanover was miscalculated by YHC but TYA was quick to correct. Appreciate you guys humoring the long field trip!

Yesterday was a dark day for our democracy. I was moved by this prayer of the senate chaplain Rev. Barry Black, prayed at 3:45am this morning after confirmation of the election results:

Lord of our lives and Sovereign of our beloved nation,
We deplore the desecration of the US capital building, the shedding of innocent blood, the loss of life, and the quagmire of disfunction that threaten our democracy.
These tragedies have reminded us that words matter,
And that the power of life and death is in the tongue.
We have been warned that eternal vigilance continues to be freedom’s price.
Lord, you have helped us remember that we need to see in each other a common humanity that reflects your image.
You have strengthened our resolve to protect and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, domestic as well as foreign.
Use us to bring healing and unity to our hurting and divided nation and world.
Thank you for what you have blessed our lawmakers to accomplishe in spite of threats to liberty.
    Bless and keep us.
Drive far from us all wrong desires.
Inclined our hearts to do your will,
and guide our feet on the path of peace.
God, bless America, in your name, Amen.

  • F3 10-Year Anniversary Beat Down

182.6 score days or 10.005479520548 years ago, 34 PAX brought forth a new thang, eventually called F3. Do the math, and today is the 10-year Anniversary.

The leaders were smart enough to create a devastatingly simple (only 5 rules – no more, no less) and intentionally decentralized structure (they knew that men won’t listen to anyone from The Home Office anyway) which would grow like a starfish (that is, when a piece breaks off, that small piece grows organically and separately into an entirely new being, unique in its own right).

Just over 6 years ago, that Thang came to Richmond, and it has developed on its own into F3RVA. Since then, the weather has been, according to Andrew Frieden, consistently sunny and 70, day and night, summer and winter. A mental and physical Climate Change, if you will. The PAX celebrated the 10-year Anniversary with the following:

    Lap around the track.

    Circle up:

    20 mercans
    20 hello dollys
    20 mountain climbers

    Lap around the track.

    Circle up:

    20 wide grip mercans
    20 little baby crunches
    20 squats

    Lap around the track.

    Circle up:

    20 diamond mercans
    20 flutter kicks
22 side straddle hops (10% more to celebrate 10 years)

Mosey around the perimeter of MMES to the “hill” on the Mary Munford soccer fields (it’s hard to see in the dark, but YHC assures the PAX that, as long as you believe the Earth is round, the “hill” is there).

Jacob’s Ladder from the center of the fields to the outside of the fields, starting with one burpee and going up to 5.

Mosey around the remaining perimeter of the school to the school wall along the track. Line up against the wall for People’s Chair. 30 seconds.

Long speeches, confetti, balloons, ridiculing of PAX members (mostly the Q), etc. to Mark the End of the Repeat of the First Workout, all lasting approximately 10 seconds. (TYA asked YHC to note that the First Workout took place at Plymouth, Massachusetts.) Today’s rendition took 20 minutes. As OBT noted in his summary earlier this week, in retrospect, the first workout was easy. And, for the PAX today, it was.

    Yet, the PAX persisted.

    Triple Check:

1st Man: Bear crawl the basketball courts. Run back.
    2nd Man: Flutter kicks
    3rd Man: Side-straddle hops

Mosey to the Tennis Courts for UpChuck’s All Four Corners. (Some PAX noted that it’s just “Four Corners.” YHC disagrees. YHC has added a twist to it, named it after himself, and trademarked it. “UpChuck’s All Four Corners,” just like The Temptations or The Four Tops, the modern version has its own brand). And, in the words of Daffy Duck,”It’s mine. All mine. All mine, mine, mine, mine, mine.” Two rounds.

Round One: Stop at each of the four corners. Do the following:

    Corner One: 10 mercans
    Corner Two: 20 WWIIs
    Corner Three: 30 Monkey Humpers
Corner Four: 40 Flutter Kicks (in the spirit of decentralization, every PAX decided OYO whether 1, 2, or 4 count)

Round Two: Stop at each of the four corners. Do the following:

    Corner One: 10 mercans
Corner Two: 10 mercans AND 20 WWIIs
Corner Three: 10 mercans AND 20 WWIIs AND 30 Monkey Humpers
Corner Four: 10 mercans AND 20 WWIIs AND 30 Monkey Humpers AND 40 Flutter Kicks (in the spirit of decentralization, every PAX decided OYO whether 1, 2, or 4 count)

Mosey The Long Way around the School and BTTF. Circle up for 20 of Frederick Mercury’s Bicycle Crunches.

Number-am-a, Name-a-ram-a, YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    Two options for workouts tomorrow:

Santa/Satan’s Hill at 7 for a beat down. Word is Wilson and Roscoe will each Q a group.

Run at Mary Munford at 7 a.m. Old Faithful, aka Lockjaw, will have the Q. (For those newer to the group, Lockjaw once Q’d RAMM for an entire year). YHC thanks TYA for his positive encouragement of Lockjaw.

TYA is starting treatment this week. You got this. Also, as YHC understands it, this is an experimental treatment allowing the patient to pace constantly around the treatment room while receiving radiation. Let’s hope it goes well.

Prayers for Fudd & Family, for TYAs niece, and for Bone Thugs family, all of whom are current COVID patients.

10 years in the books. What a great gift given to all of us. Here’s to keeping it healthy and to building our F3RVA community.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Name this BB

A formidable 14 descended upon Mary for a Gerry Christmas Eve beatdown. This is what transpired, more or less…

COT: Scorpions, HR Merkins, <ground-fruit>-pickers, B-Lickers

Pavilion: Poll Smokers while partner runs out-and-back to Grove (3 rounds). Balls to the Wall, Chicken Peckers, Bear Crawl, Merkins, run out and Bernie Sanders back…Two rounds. Doras: Run circle while partner works through: 150 Merkins, 200 4-count Mountain Climbers, 300 LBC’s. Courts: Bear Crawl/Crab Walk/Polar Bear/Crawl Bear…Perform 10 prescribed exercises in b/w each court. Finish: Suicides back across courts…COT

NMS: 4-count Mountain Climbers were a BAD IDEA. Thanks to Upchuck for picking up the count from YHC when he became distracted (which is a common occurrence).

    Announcements:

    • Prayers for Bleeder’s mom who was recently hospitalized at St Mary’s
    • Prayers for TYA’s young niece – a nurse working on the front lines – who is now hospitalized due to severe complications from COVID

Wishes to everyone. Merry Christmas fellas.

  • SH&T SHOW

8 studs and one half asleep Q posted on a glorious morning in January

The Thang: a bunch of random, ill advised exercises that we poorly thought out, pitifully explained and at some times dangerous to the PAX. Exercises were completed in and around Mary Mumford, Windsor Farms, and sometime in the middle of Cary Street Road with traffic roaring by at 40+MPH.

You win some and you lose some. Today the Q was a big L for me. I was thinking after the workout what went well and what went wrong. The list of things that went wrong are far too long to capture here. Two things went right. We started on time and we ended on time. Between that it was a complete disaster. Had I been a PAX member and not the so called leader this morning, I would have mutinied. My only positive gift to the PAX today was that when they are in the throws of some self inflicted disaster later today, they can think back to the Q that I laid out there today and take comfort in the fact that whatever they screwed up was less of a mess than I made of the first 45 minutes of their dayI have the Q once again next week at Mary. You have my commitment that it will be a whole hell of a lot better than today (honestly, that’s not really much of a promise, but its all I have right now.).

I have the Q once again next week at Mary. You have my commitment that it will be a whole hell of a lot better than today (honestly, that’s not really much of a promise, but its all I have right now.).

  • Raunchy Run around Mary with a Gerry

10 titans and 1 gerry took in the sites and condescending sounds of the surrounding neighborhood, stopping to exercise along the way. This is what transpired more or less….

COT (brief), Bear Crawls, Polar Bears, Crab Walks, Bear Crawls…along the pull-in.

Run to neighboring blocks. Occasional stops along the way for copious exercises, triple checks, and Lindsays. Return to campus to perform some more running mixed with merkins and jump squats. Hit tennis courts for out and back(wards) running stopping for exercises each time.

A grand time was had for all.

    NMS

Some “gentleman” who were taking an early walk decided to mock our cadence from afar. Response was as follows:

    • YHC simply wished them a good morning
    • Bodos suggested Swirly go beat them up
    • Swirly promptly jumped up, squared his shoulders and took a few steps forward before the PAX (and Bodos) instructed that he stand down.

To the title, Bodos’ M reportedly observed how F3 members (Bodos included?) can be a bit “raunchy” at times. All in good fun, YHC simply refers to that as the 2nd-F, which is why he has stuck around with this crew for so long.

  • First Thankgiving: Turkey on an engine block!

22 dedicated warriors posted on a gloomy Thanksgiving morning.

The Thang: Mosey to side of MM for COP of Don Quixotes, WWII, Merkins, SSH. Mosey to basketball court for double triple check. Peoples chair, WWII, and run forward and backwards 2x. Mosey to field for The Beast (SSH, Merkins, LBC, jump squats, WWII). Mosey to end of field for suicide 11’s of SSH and merkins. Mosey back to the flag and COT.

    NMM

Thanksgiving talk abounded. Lots of discussion about where the first Thanksgiving was. Lots are on the Virginia bandwagon, a few of the history buffs guessed Massachusetts and there was a vote for Florida and Detroit Michigan. A few facts about Berkely VA. They did have a Thanksgiving in 1619. It was to celebrate the arrival and safe travel across the seas. It consisted of a prayer (no meal). It was so successful, that according to the sign on the capital trail wasn’t immortalized until 1958 – 339 years later. Oh, and it was in December. Massachusetts facts. November date. Feast to celebrate the harvest. Included family and friends including many native americans. Details of Detroit and Florida are unknot, except that in Detroit the turkey was cooked on the engine block of the car. So…take the facts and you decide what event our current Thanksgiving was modeled after.

We have a lot to be thankful of. The bounty that we have in our lives is unbelievable. I hope everyone enjoys the day and their families.

  • Round Mary We Go

14 warriors, including a PAX from Napierville Illinois (welcome Super 8) showed up to what felt like the first day of winter. Knowing that it was going to be cold and there is a merkin challenge I tried my best to mix cardio with different versions of merkins. I also had us cover the grounds of Mary in a clockwise fashion, trying to at least cover each quadrant.

After a jogging, karaoke run around most of Mary, the COP went like this.

SSHs, DQs (too fast for Saab), ACs, CPs

Exercise 1: Curb crawl – ascending to 5 back down to 1. Mosey to pavilion – 25 merkins

Exercise 2: 15 Derkins, 15 WWIIs, 20 Derkins, 20 WWIIs, 25 Derkins, 25 WWIIs. 60 derkins total. Mosey to filed off Cary Street

Exercise 3: Suicides with burpees. 1 burpee at first tree up to 9 burpees at 9th tree – 45 burpees. Mosey to blacktop

Exercise 4: Triple check – donkey kicks, flutter kicks and run back and forth on black top and do 10 merkins each time. – 30 merkins

Mosey around to meeting point. 15 merkins, 15 2 count AHs, 15 2 count mountain climbers and 5 very slow DQs (but still too fast for Saab). 175 merkins total based on my count. Enough to pace for 5K for November.

    Closed in prayer.

    Announcements:

Convergence Thursday Thanksgiving at 6 a.m. Come out and get a wicked good history lesson from native New Englander TYA and enjoy a kick ass workout.

CSOP: 7 a.m. at Forest Hill Park on Friday 11/27. Meet at Shelter 1.

Pray for those who are suffering from COVID or are on the front lines handling a pandemic. Do great things!

Peoples Chair, WWII, run forward then backwards (twice). Repeat 5x. Mosey to the tennis courts for four corners. NMM

55th Birthday for Saab. Great celebration and awesome to have such a big crowd out there. We tried to stick with his favorite exercises along the way. When Saab started F3, he dipped his toe in the water and decided he was a run only guy. After the first BRR, he went all in and has been fully committed to F3 since. Cannot think of a better guy to be part of the group. It has been an honor to have you part of the group. Plus, if you ever get in a fight, he is well versed in Queen’s rules boxing.

For anyone wishing to continue the birthday celebration with Saab, he is going to go to the China Buffet tonight for a late dinner at 3pm. He said he would buy and Ensure for all that attend.
