  • First Thankgiving: Turkey on an engine block!

22 dedicated warriors posted on a gloomy Thanksgiving morning.

The Thang: Mosey to side of MM for COP of Don Quixotes, WWII, Merkins, SSH. Mosey to basketball court for double triple check. Peoples chair, WWII, and run forward and backwards 2x. Mosey to field for The Beast (SSH, Merkins, LBC, jump squats, WWII). Mosey to end of field for suicide 11’s of SSH and merkins. Mosey back to the flag and COT.

    NMM

Thanksgiving talk abounded. Lots of discussion about where the first Thanksgiving was. Lots are on the Virginia bandwagon, a few of the history buffs guessed Massachusetts and there was a vote for Florida and Detroit Michigan. A few facts about Berkely VA. They did have a Thanksgiving in 1619. It was to celebrate the arrival and safe travel across the seas. It consisted of a prayer (no meal). It was so successful, that according to the sign on the capital trail wasn’t immortalized until 1958 – 339 years later. Oh, and it was in December. Massachusetts facts. November date. Feast to celebrate the harvest. Included family and friends including many native americans. Details of Detroit and Florida are unknot, except that in Detroit the turkey was cooked on the engine block of the car. So…take the facts and you decide what event our current Thanksgiving was modeled after.

We have a lot to be thankful of. The bounty that we have in our lives is unbelievable. I hope everyone enjoys the day and their families.

  • Round Mary We Go

14 warriors, including a PAX from Napierville Illinois (welcome Super 8) showed up to what felt like the first day of winter. Knowing that it was going to be cold and there is a merkin challenge I tried my best to mix cardio with different versions of merkins. I also had us cover the grounds of Mary in a clockwise fashion, trying to at least cover each quadrant.

After a jogging, karaoke run around most of Mary, the COP went like this.

SSHs, DQs (too fast for Saab), ACs, CPs

Exercise 1: Curb crawl – ascending to 5 back down to 1. Mosey to pavilion – 25 merkins

Exercise 2: 15 Derkins, 15 WWIIs, 20 Derkins, 20 WWIIs, 25 Derkins, 25 WWIIs. 60 derkins total. Mosey to filed off Cary Street

Exercise 3: Suicides with burpees. 1 burpee at first tree up to 9 burpees at 9th tree – 45 burpees. Mosey to blacktop

Exercise 4: Triple check – donkey kicks, flutter kicks and run back and forth on black top and do 10 merkins each time. – 30 merkins

Mosey around to meeting point. 15 merkins, 15 2 count AHs, 15 2 count mountain climbers and 5 very slow DQs (but still too fast for Saab). 175 merkins total based on my count. Enough to pace for 5K for November.

    Closed in prayer.

    Announcements:

Convergence Thursday Thanksgiving at 6 a.m. Come out and get a wicked good history lesson from native New Englander TYA and enjoy a kick ass workout.

CSOP: 7 a.m. at Forest Hill Park on Friday 11/27. Meet at Shelter 1.

Pray for those who are suffering from COVID or are on the front lines handling a pandemic. Do great things!

  • Speed Limit Reached

23 or 24 posted on a perfect November 12 morning. Seventy and sunny.

    The Thang

5 Don Quixote’s to start. 5 Don Quixote’s every five minutes during the workout (real crowd pleaser). Ball lickers for 55 seconds…Swirly was counting too slow so we moved on. Run to the tarmac and Triangle Up (Yep, Saabski loves a good triangle). Bunch of exercises, topped off with 55 SSH. Move to the side of the school for a triple check. Peoples Chair, WWII, run forward then backwards (twice). Repeat 5x. Mosey to the tennis courts for four corners. First corner 15 Merkins, second corner 20 jump squats, third corner 25 carolina dry-docks, last corner 30 SSH. Mosey to side of school for some more exercises and 55 side straddle hops. SAAB lead us in Esther Williams style scissor kicks and then 55 seconds of 6 inches. Mosey to the parking lot for COP where Saab took us out

    NMM

55th Birthday for Saab. Great celebration and awesome to have such a big crowd out there. We tried to stick with his favorite exercises along the way. When Saab started F3, he dipped his toe in the water and decided he was a run only guy. After the first BRR, he went all in and has been fully committed to F3 since. Cannot think of a better guy to be part of the group. It has been an honor to have you part of the group. Plus, if you ever get in a fight, he is well versed in Queen’s rules boxing.

For anyone wishing to continue the birthday celebration with Saab, he is going to go to the China Buffet tonight for a late dinner at 3pm. He said he would buy and Ensure for all that attend.

  • Friendship > Politics

13 of Richmond’s finest showed up for a Mary beatdown on a beautiful morning. Here’s what transpired:

COP: Mosey west on Grove, hang a left on Lock and gather in the First Pres parking lot. Deadman hang // Helicopters // DQs // Cherry Pickers// Imperial Walkers // Alabama Prom Dates // LBCs // Crabcakes // Merkins // Mountain Climbers // Merkins // Peter Parkers // Merkins // SSHs 21s (count to 5 in Candace, to 21 silently in our heads, all stop at the same time. A couple dudes messed up so we did 5 burpees).

Triple Check: P1: People’s Chair // P2: Plank // P3: Sprint to end of lot, Bernie Sanders back. Mosey back to MM. Stop midway for some Lt.Dans.

Dora: P1 run to the end of the courts and back. Escalating Sets of Excercises increasing by 50s: 50 Burpees // 100 WW2s // 150 Merkins // 200 Squats

Final COP: Pickle Pounders // Flutter Kicks // LBCs

Mosey back to the Flag. Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: A professor of mine said that the only basis for healthy democracy is friendship. As silly as it might sound, F3 demonstrates a model for the healthy functioning of democracy, because the foundations of our friendship run deeper than our diverse political views. In a moment when nearly everything is reduced to political categories, F3 models a way to put the brotherly love and mutual respect of friendship above political reductionism. Let’s model a better way.

Here’s prayer written by a pastor friend that we used to close out the time today:

Lord, we pray for our nation. Our country is hurting. Families are torn apart. Friends have turned into enemies. Lord, may we see how morally inconsistent we are. How self-righteous we can be. How fear has deeply poisoned our hearts. How the lust for power has blinded us to the gospel. Lord, deliver us from evil. May we all repent first. Before we can pray for unity, we must personally do the hard work of unmasking our own duplicity. Forgive us when we demonize another. Forgive us when we speak truth without love. Forgive us when our moral outrage is simply a facade covering our need to be right. Forgive us when we reduce love to sentimentality while we ignore the cries of injustice. Forgive us when we sin against another. And may we learn to forgive when we are sinned against. Teach us to be salt and light. May our speech be always filled with grace seasoned with salt. Teach us to put our hope in you; to properly discern our civic responsibilities, and to live from a non-anxious place. Lord, before we speak, may our lives be marked by silence. But guard us from silence when you call us to speak. Lord, you are always at work, making all things new. Make us new people with new hearts who can join you in this project of restoration. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

  • 6, 17 and a VQ Redo

14 pillars of manliness showed up expecting a Swirly-Q and were instead treated to an old-fashioned BT experience. As the remnants of Zeta approached, we got down to business. Here’s how it went:

    COP:

Mosey around the tennis courts to grass. Merkins x 10, Copperhead Squats x 10, Imperial Walkers x 11, LBC x 20, SSH x 25, maybe something else

    Thang:

Mosey onto tennis courts for Tracers: backpedal sideline, slide step baseline, sprint up far sideline. Down and back.

Stay on courts: traverse the 4 tennis courts and alternate exercises: lunge/bear crawl down, crabwalk/crawl bear back.

    Split into 2 groups on the track to tackle a 4-exercise circuit. Exercises were Flutter Kicks x 17, Pull-ups x 6, LBCs x 17, Dips x 6. 3 rounds.

Mosey to soccer fields for Super 6’s. Exercises were Merkins x 6, Carolina Dry Docks x6 and Squats x 6. Sprint across field to other side and the exercises. Sprint back and do them again. Repeato x 6.

On way back to the flag, stop on courts to do 6 Burpees in cadence and 6 OYO.

COT: Saab took us out the way only Saab can.

    NMM:

It’s been a minute since ol’ BT Q’d, but with a little nudge, and offer from Swirly and some gear-grinding that box is now checked. Just like riding a bike and looking forward to more.

While getting in a decent amount of runs, YHC has been largely absent from bootcamps in the past year due to a variety of issues/injuries. But, a 6-yr anniversary with this incredible bunch of dudes needed to be honored, hence the incessant number of 6-counts. 17 was thrown in there as an homage to the passing of my 17 year old dog which caused YHC to miss the actual anniversary in the first place. She was a special pup for sure.

While there was rust for the Q, it was knocked off quickly. Leave it to the PAX to provide a “gentle” and guiding hand when forgetting certain protocols and trying to turn a burpee into a 4-count. Thankfully, mumble-chatter was minimal during the Super 6’s else it could have been a long morning.

Grateful for the opportunity to lead and especially appreciative of the bonds YHC has formed with this group. Here’s to another 6. SYITG!

  • Gerry Q’s take a week off

Gerry Q’s take a week off

Thanks for coming out this morning and celebrating YHC’s three year F3 Anniversary. YHC is very grateful for the friends/brothers that he has made and for your continuing to push me to higher levels.

Also, thanks for enduring a Q by a PAX member that is still under 50 years old at Mary. YHC knows that’s a rarity!

Everyone have a great day and SYITG!

NMS: Great morning, perfect temp. Saab and TYA had one long continuous conversation the entire 45 minutes, never stopped talking. I like to picture them in a nursing home one day together, trying to eek out some DQs.

Here’s the prayer from St Francis I mangled at the end:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring love.
Where there is offence, let me bring pardon.
Where there is discord, let me bring union.
O Master, let me not seek as much
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love,
for it is in giving that one receives,
it is in self-forgetting that one finds,
it is in pardoning that one is pardoned,
it is in dying that one is raised to eternal life.

  • Port Cochere

12 warriors posted in the pre rain gloom for a good beatdown at MM. At least 3 PAX made their way to the AO via foot or bicycle.

The thang: COP at side of Mary, Saab started us off with Don Quixote, then to some WWII’s and finish with Helicopters. Mosey to alley way, stop at each pole/tree. Merkins, WWII, SSH and LBC’s along the way. Mosey to the Port Cochere, pair up. One pax runs, 50 merkins, 100 SSH, 150 WWII (reduced to 50) and 200 LBC. Mosey to side yard, Bear crawl/crab walk between trees, alternate merkins and SSH at trees. Mosey back to school stoping along the way for 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5 WWII’s. COT and Saab took us out.

NMM: Field trip day to First Prep Church. We ambled our way to the church via Grove and came back via Cary. Cary is a little more dangerous, but there is a sidewalk to run along. Watch your head along the way because there are a tone of low hanging branches along the way.

Lots of mumble chatter about the IPC and form this morning. If an exercise is worth doing, it is worth doing it with the right form so you can actually benefit from it….
