  • City PAX Can’t Shoot

9 eager beavers broke from the sack for bowl of hot Gumbo on a surprisingly brisk first morning of Spring. 3 others took to the mean city streets for some miles. This is how the bootcamp went:

Mosey to the blacktop for COP, including various IC exercises to get things warmed up despite the brisk breeze.

    THANG:

Triple Check with People’s Chair, HRMs and run to fence and Bernie back.

Four Corners with 10 werkins, 20 2-ct Freddies, 30 2-ct Mountain Climbers and 40 Bobby Hurleys (and a Duke trivia session hosted by HoneyDo (and failed by Faceplant))

Free Throws – using the random soccer balls laying around, we lined up around the paint and took turns shooting a free throw. Make = 10 SSHs; Miss = 5 burpees. Only YHC made the shot, so that equaled 10 SSHs and 40 burpees. Thanks guys

Tip Drill – a few rounds of the old tip drill made more challenging by the dim light and some random car lights.

    Shelter work –

    • Pole circuits – 10 pole smokers, 10 merkins, 10 box cutters…then 15-15-15 and then 20-20-20
    • Bench work – 20 dips, 20 SSHs…then 15-15-15, then 10-10-10

    4 Minutes of Mary

COT, Numbers, Names, Announcements and Prayers

Only announcement is the upcoming CSAUP 5/2-5/3 Century Part Deux. See Slack, join a team, participate.

    NMS:

Great morning to get back out. It has been a minute since YHC took the Q at 45MOM and no real plan was in mind, but in the end we got a good workout – thanks to our complete inability to make a free throw! Thanks for following me around guys. It was fun.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Business on Top, Party on the Bottom

Four bedraggled men, dealing with too much pollen and too little sleep, found their way to Mary for a 45 minute beatdown. Four other randos were sauntering around while we four commenced at 0530. Here’s what happened.

COP warm up on the blacktop

Beast! on the tennis court. 6 sets of excercises with 6 modes of travel, with 6 stops along the way. Round 1: Run and Squats. // 2: Lunges and Merkins // 3: Bernie Sanders and WW2s // 4: Side Shuffles and Carolina Dry Docks // 5: Bear Crawl and Monkey Humpers // 6: Run and Burpees . Mosey back to the blacktop

Dora with a partner . 100 Monkey Humpers, 200 LBCs, 300 Side straddle hops

Jerkins and Squats: 3 sets of 10 each. Mosey back to the Flag

Final COP, Ab exercises x25IC. American Hammers, Freddie Mercuries, Scissor kicks

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: None of us slept very well but it was good to be together. We appreciated Senor Frog dressing up for us. Handshake hears some crazy stories when he goes into people’s houses every day. Oyster is thankful that we think he’s so funny.

Prayers for Principal Muzik of Mary Munford, who was hit by a car on his bike on Tuesday and has 2 broken arms, a broken hip and leg.

  • With Hitch, HIMS takes on a whole new meaning

Nine fine gentlemen, at least 2-3 of which are very bald and 1 of which has more hair than ever, gathered for 45 minutes of Mary this fine morning. The clock hit 0500 and off we went.

COP on the Blacktop. Deadman hang // helicopters // DQs // Cherry Pickers // Ukrainian Soldiers // Merkins // Elbow Plank Punches // High/Low Boats + Flutters

    Four Corners on the Blacktop: 10 Squats each corner // 20 Merkins x4 // 30 LBCs x4 // 40 SSHs x4. Bonus Round! 5 Burpees x 4. Mosey to the picnic tables

Triple Check #1: P1: Box Jumps , P2: Mtn Climbers , P3: Run to sidewalk and back. Mosey back to Blacktop

Triple Check #2: P1: Dips, P2: Wall Sits, P3: Run to the Pull up bars, 5 pulls ups, run back. Audible after 2 rounds, back to the Flag

Concluding COP: High Knees and UpDowns for the final minute

NMS: Hitchiker’s kids have been taking his phone and snapping photos of his bald spot- which in turn propelled him in a fit of insecurity and panic to subscribe to Hims ™ Hair regrowth product for men. Hitch is convinced that his locks are now more luscious than ever, even as 1-800 informed us of the untold number of lawsuits currently out against “hair growth” companies. Hitch suggested that Faceplant and Upchuck give it a shot, which they demurred. Next week we will do a review of Hims ED product, which seems to cause hair loss.

  • Donkey Kong Workout, Feats of Strength, and Being Thankful for Unexpected Gifts

Yeah, it was that kind of workout for the 10 of us. Lots of fun, no serious injuries, and coffee was great afterwards.

    Upchuck took us out.

  • 45 Minutes of White, Powdery Fun

    Eight boot campers and two walkers met and then dispersed at 0530 in the white, powdery gloom this morning. This is what went down after Bodo’s woke up the neighborhood with his Volvo horn;

Slow, cautious mosey around to the NW corner of the schoolyard for:

COP: DMH, Reach for the stars, DQ’s, Arm Circles, Imperial Walkers, Russian Ukrainian Israeli American Soldiers, Merkins

    head over to picnic tables and complete: 10 x dips, 10 x step-ups, 10 x dips, 10 x step-ups, 10 x incline merkins

Mosey over to the main school entrance and partner up for:

    Lunge/Squats switching with partner

Reverse Lunge/Lt. Dan’s switching with partners

    Bearcrawl/Jump Squats switching with partners

Head over to the Triple Check area for: not a triple check

    Partner up for:

Run to fence and back/LBC’s and switch

Side Shuffle left to the fence and back/WW2’s and switch

Side Shuffle right to the fence and back/Heels to Heaven and switch

Mosey over to the field and partner up for Touch a Tree:

Partner 1 touches one tree on Cary Street, partner 2 does DQ’s and switch. Oyster doesn’t listen and goes towards Westmoreland.

Partner 1 touches two trees on Westmoreland, partner 2 does something else and switch

Partner 1 touches three trees on Commonwealth, partner 2 does Suzanne Somers and switch

Partner 1 touches four trees on Grooooove, partner 2 does Burpees and switch

Mosey to the corner of Cary and Commonwealth for Burpee Rd

At each streetlight increase by one burpee. 36 Burpees #MABA (I saw a smile on Bodo’s face)

Back to the flag (an actual shovel flag, not a VSF) for stretching and Mary

Numbers, Names, Announcements and Honeydo took us out, twice.

    NMS:

Fun times in the powdery snow this morning! Not much laying on the ground action, your welcome! Oyster now knows the street names around Mary Munford. #SOP ruled this morning, at least until the walkers returned. No one got cold until the group picture.

Thanks for putting up with me for two days in a row! I’ll try it again in Feb. 2026

    SYITG!

  • Lost PAX Puppies

Two tardy men arrived just seconds after the clock struck 05:30. The rest of the PAX was nowhere to be found, so we took to the school and neighboring streets in search for the HIMs! First we checked the school block, nope! Once we got back to the COT area we headed out east, then west into the streets, but had no success in locating our 45MOM PAX! Once we got back to the AO we decided to run our own workout.

    Warmarama!

    • Deadman Hang, Arm Circles, Copper Head Squats, among others I cannot recall.

    The Thang

    • 3 sets – 25 Reps – Dips, Squats, Pole Smokers.
    • 3 Sets – Plank while other PAX does 10 pull-ups and/or leg raises
    • 3 Sets – Do exercise of your choosing as the fellow PAX runs across the blacktop east to west and back.

COT with the returning PAX from their stormy weather walk?
    Vandelay closed us out.

  • Frozen Triangle 2025: Pretty much the definition of completely stupid and utterly pointless.

Cold, rain, miles, and misery: the perfect combination for a CSAUP to kick off 2025.

Here is how it all went down:

20 Ruckers and a few straight through runners (Doozy and Big Rig) set worth, with the remaining 16 or so Pax joining Hitch for beatdown #1.

Hitch Beatdown (stretch session). Dude. Thank you. Hitch basically warmed us on under the amphitheater and did helped get us ready for the run.

Interesting side story: During the stretch session, a popping sound, followed by smoke came from Beaver’s head. Well, turns out his battery in the headlamp exploded. Damn dude!

Grabbed the flags, ran to Punisher in freezing rain. Runners arrived around 7 a.m.  Had a few snacks and sips of Gatorade or Water. Ready for whatever NTB had in store.

NTB Beatdown aka the never ending fire bucket brigade: I saw the GrowRuck-style sandbags and started having GTE 47 flashbacks, but it wasn’t too bad. We were basically shoulder to shoulder, with our backs against the wall, in a squat position—handing over three bags repeatedly around the entire perimeter of the school (which took about sixteen minutes). One bag (sand-filled) was heavy as crap and became even heavier as it got waterlogged. The other two bags were not too heavy, and there were many guesses as to their contents (charcoal, Lincoln Logs, COVID spike proteins?).

Looking around at the cold and soaked guys, Rosie and I could tell people needed to keep moving…off to Mary.

Run to Mary was fairly uneventful, runners arrived around 7:45 a.m. Triple claps to the pit crew who had all the refreshments ready to go!

Beaver Beatdown: Triple check on the basketball courts. Runner to the fence and back, other Pax on merkins and sloppy donkey kicks. Next up, a very wet and cold Beast (all abs) on the tennis courts. I think this is where everyone’s hands started to freeze.

Everyone was eager to get moving, so away we went for the final stretch back to Dog Pile.

Runners arrived at Dog Pile around 8:40/8:45 a.m. and very much ready to get out of the cold rain. Everyone back by 8:50 a.m.

    Numbers/Names.

Very cool to have an FNG brought out by Broadway to join the Pax today. Former Army and retired police officer. Murtaugh (Lethal Weapon) was the perfect name. Even at 54, Murtaugh is “not getting too old for this shit.”  Please watch this classic clip from Lethal Weapon 2

Announcements (and sorry for rushing these, I was feeling pretty miserable):

    • April Hike/Ruck with Rodeo Clown to support Make-A-Wish.
    • Beaver invited guys to grab some grub at Taco Bamba
    • And most importantly, Belay joins Team America as a US citizen in the next few weeks!

Ball of man. Wildcat took us out.

Hey – Big Thank you to everyone that showed up today, pushed through the weather and physical challenge of Frozen Triangle. Made me proud to see all the HIMs out there this morning.

And…HUGE thank you to the guys that volunteered to stand in the rain and make sure the participants had refreshments. Bulkhead, Cornbeef, Faceplant, Fudd, and UpChuck.

    Everyone deserves a nap!

Stats below: Looks like runners go over 10 and ruckers just under 9.

  • Mean Girls, 45MOM edition

YHC was hitting every red light as he made his way up Three Chopt and down monument on his way to meet his friends for a morning workout. YHC pulled up to the school at 5:29:30 excited to see all his friends. YHC opened the car door and could hear snickering from barely audible jokes. All YHC wanted to do was spread fitness joy.

After a long 10 seconds YHC launched the workout heading up Wiletta to Kingscrest. We completed an extended and interrupted COP.

YHC had to contented with a great deal of verbal resistance this morning. Therefore, YHC brought out Pencil Rolls, Burpess, HRMs, Parklot Tracers, etc.

Hitch was picked up along to way, it was impressive that he found us.

    Announcements – Frozen Triangle

    Prayer Requests – non

NMS – YHC was happy to sign up and build greater emotional resilience.

  • Its not that cold

Prayers for all F3 brothers experiencing illness and those doing missionary work.

Thanks for letting me lead today Fellas,

    House Party

  • Seven for Seven!

A lucky seven (sans Handshake despite his vow to be there) met on a frigid morning for a beatdown. We ventured out at 5:29 because we could barely stand it to sit around in the cold for another minute. Here’s what happened:

COP: beginning with DQs, Saab was not pleased. Various regulars here.

    Seven of Diamonds: Running and stopping at each of the 4 corners of the blacktop, perform the following: Round 1: 7  squats // Round 2: 14 Merkins // . Round 3: 21 LBCs // Round 4: 28 2x Mtn Climbers // Round 5: 21 2x Flutter kicks // Round 6: 14 Carolina Dry Docks // Round 7: 7 Burpees. 28 Burpees done, only 73 to go ! #maba

11s in the Pavilion. start with 10 pole smokers, bear crawl to other Side of the pavilion, 1 Jump Squat on the pole. And so forth

Choose your adventure: at this point, there were 10 minutes remaining. Those participating in #maba could commence burpees, those not participating did rounds of dips and merkins. UPCHUCK- NO ONE WAS FORCED TO DO MABA FYI

COT: Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Great morning of frigid air, warm conversation and lots of mockery. Well done crew! SYITG
