NMS: Plenty to be thankful for today. Having Swirly back means his M is recovering. We are glad she is feeling better, but continue with our thoughts and prayers as she continues to recover. Whatever you need brother, just let us know.

My FIL was diagnosed with kidney cancer this past week. The good news is they say they can fix it, perhaps even without operation. Either way, the M and I are thankful for him and the fact that the doctors are upbeat about the prognosis.

Have a great week, men. And take the time to “stop and smell the roses.” This is a busy week for many headed into the holiday weekend. Slow it down, and enjoy it. The weekend will get here soon enough.

  • Field Day Hangover

Three Amigos posted for morning coffee at Batteau. Here’s what we ordered.

Mosey through the lion cage and up the hill to the bottom of the farmers market parking lot. COP: Helicopters x 10. Imperial Walkers x 10. Hill Billies x 10. SSHs x 10.

Flash Dance’s Coffee House Pop Up Shop: A Twin Team favorite sprinkled in to a Batteau beatdown. Frozen Mary: On your six. Hold V-up position for :60. Recover. Hold Russian Solider left leg for :60. Repeat with right leg.

    YHC took us out.

Announcements: See the Field Day BB for all of them.

Moleskin: YHC was curious to see how Flash Dance’s Coffee House would go over at Batteau. I was particularly curious to see how my boy Swirly would enjoy it. Unfortunately, his M is not feeling well so he had to miss today’s festivities. Don’t worry brother, it’ll come back out. I hope your M gets better soon.

When we got to the top of the hill to start the downward climb, it was noted that only the Q had gloves. Sorry boys, the show must go on, and it did. Posh and Sippy Cup crushed it. Lunges were never even considered. Given that the descent only took about 15 minutes, instead of the 42 required at Twin Team, there was plenty of time for more pain.

In honor of Orange Crush’s VQ on Friday, some frozen exercises were introduced to his brothers down river. Sippy – as expected – stayed frozen during the Russian Soldiers. Posh thawed out a little bit. Your boy Vinny was wet from start to finish, but the hip flexors got the message.

    Well done boys!

  • Sippy did Post!

First to arrive at Batteau with Swirly jogging in and the Flag was planted. YHC forgot his watch so Shakedown alerted the Gloom, 0530. No Sippy Cup in site….time to mosey.

Down the street to Forest Hill, along the sidewalk and almost able to place an order for coffee. COP-x 25 SSH, x 25 Imperial Walkers, x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 25 Freddie Mercuries, x 25 Flutter Kicks, x 25 Plank Jacks. Mosey back up the sidewalk to middle part of Forest Hill Park.

11’s- Squats on side, run down hill and up hill to the other side, Merkins. Only variable, Bernie Sanders run, up hill to Merkins….aka backwards. So x 1 Squat, run, x 10 Merkins. Q handed over to Shakedown. Mosey to tennis courts. In honor of Shakedown’s first Hot Potato Q……

Triple Check-Plerkins and Bear Crawls. One Pax Planks, one Pax member performs merkins with legs on planking members back, third Pax bear crawls to fence and back. Nice work to Soul Glo and Shakedown for making it work. Swirly handed the Q and over to the playground we moseyed.

First exercise-Chazz Michael Michael= Partner up. Partner 1 grabs monkey bar and places legs over Partner 2 shoulder. Performs lat raises. Only Partner 2 is facing Partner 1. 3 sets of 5. Awkward!

Second exercise: At playground border, x 15 dips, x 10 merkins. Repeat 3 times.

Third Exercise: x 20 Swing Jacks (2 Swings available) while PAX performs step ups on picnic bench till swing available. Times up and mosey back to the flag. And there was Sippy Cup!

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Field Day, May 11. See your Nano regions captain for uniform. Mothers Day, May 12! Guys, don’t forget!

    YHC took us out!

NMS: 0525, Marv drives around and asks if anyone knows where a guy could work out. Marv parked at another lot. And, Swirly asked several times if anyone saw Sippy Cup on their way over. YHC was going to take Pax down to the lake from road facing Forest Hill but caution exercised due to poor lighting. And COP was there…different.

Bleeder, hope you are only hurt and not injured! Those hill runs are no joke.

Marv, YHC is definitely closer to you after Chazz Michael Michael exercise.

Shakedown and Swirly, excellent workout this am! Soul Glo, keep up the hard work and cardio gets better!

And as we returned to the flag, there was Sippy Cup….asking “Where were you guys?” Garmins are not all keeping the same time. Sorry, Sippy Cup, COP was in weird place this morning and 11’s quickly silenced mumblechatter. Next time COP will be delayed by 1 min because you are a regular Batteau Pax member!

Be super today. Only those who post understand.

    Loud and Proud,

    Flatline

  • Street Racing, Fire Prevention and The Flintstones

Six Park Rangers scouted the grounds at Forest Hill Park this morning, and thank goodness they did. Give a hoot, don’t pollute. Oh, wait…

Bleeder Q: Mosey to meet Sippy Cup in front of the FHP entrance. Circle up. SSHs x 15. Merkins x 10. LBCs x 20. No more grass. Mosey to the FHP 42nd street entrance. Dips x 10 / run to 2nd lamp and back. Dips x 20 / run to 2nd lamp and back x 2. Dips x 30 / run to 2nd lamp and back x 3.

Quittin’ Time. Back to the Flag. Bleeder took us out.

Announcements: Field Day is May 11th at Dogpile. See your captains for uniforms and see you clowns there.

NMS: On the way to Batteau, YHC felt the close proximity of an Audi at the back of his 2001 BMW, which could only mean one thing. I was about to get jumped, or Bleeder was feelin’ froggish. Sure enough, when I got to Batteau I was able to confirm my suspicions. Bleeder said it was a clean pass. We’ll need to check the toll booth cams for a ruling.

Fire prevention is real. Today during dips, Swirly and I noticed that one of the grills was still a blaze. Not good. Take care of your parks men.

Solid beatdown today guys, as always.

  • Show up early and you get rained on

5 PAX, 3 regulars and two out of town guests, gathered right after the freak rainstorm for a little Hot Potato Q.

Swirly led first and took us through the COP. 10x Helicopters, 10x DQ, 20x LBCs, 10x Flutter kicks, 10x Merkins, 20x SSH.

Then he took us down to the bowl for 3 rounds of: 20 dips, 10 Derkins and running up the hil and back.

He then took us to the tennis court baseline: Lunge across, 10x donkey kicks on the fence Lunge back. Repeat with Russian Soliders, and Bear Crawls.

Finally we headed to picnic tables for 3x: 15x incline merkins and 10x WWIIs with feet on picnic bench.

Sippy then led a new leg burning exercise, the Slinky. Step up onto picnic bench, step down, then reverse lunge with same leg, then one ball dipper (to switch placement of legs). Repeat with opposite leg. 3 x 60 seconds with a mosey around the stone house to rest after each set.

Then some kickboxing. 20 sec x 2 of jab-jab-cross followed by
20 sec x 2 of jab-uppercut-uppercut. Mosey around the stone house followed by 1 minute elbow plank.

Posh led us then to the stone steps for 3 rounds of 10x burpees on the top and 20 dips at the bottom. Mosey back to the flag for a ring of fire dealers choice for Merkins.

Moleskin. Some of the PAX were surprised by a freak rainstorm that hit on the jog over, but the actual workout turned out to be a beautiful spring morning. It’s really nice to be in the light for the last 1/2 of the workout. We enjoyed having Manwich and Kapow join us today. Manwich drives over an hour each way to get to an F3 workout and hopes to start a new location in his hometown of Holden Beach very soon. It struck me how fortunate we are to be able to jog or drive only short distances to many of the AOs in F3 Richmond.

    MOLESKIN

YHC commented to Swirly last Wednesday that he was overdue for a trip down to Batteau.  Rolled out of the sack and chose the red pill expecting to meet up with the usual Batteau players, but only Swirly and Sippy were in attendance.  No problem, great to see Posh and enjoy what this fine AO has to offer.  Thanks to Sippy for keeping it all business during the Chad Michael Michaels, some of the usual, less mature, suspects could make that one pretty awkward.  If LabRat was on hand he’d apologize for the 4 big holes the PAX created by the pond with the Rock Slams.  YHC personally finds those very gratifying, though today made for a muddy morning after.  YHC had a flashback to the inaugural Batteau July 4th sweatfest as the PAX carried the rocks back up the stairs to return.  That workout still gives YHC F3PTSD.  What a great start to tax day!  SYITG.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS Puppy Pile anytime soon?

  • IT’S A BIRTHDAY Q

10 Studs were up and eager for a beautiful Spring Morning Beat Down at Batteau!  Here’s how it all went down:

COP: DQ’s, Hillbillies, Russian Soldiers, Hand Release Merkins, Elbow Plank, American Hammers, Freddy Mercury’s

Stay in circle for a warm up:  15 each of 2 count Mountain Climbers, single count Merkins, Copper Head Squats, Burpees.

Mosey to the Tennis Courts and lineup on the sideline: 4 minutes of cardio, with partner.  One partner is performing SSH’s while the other is sprinting to the other end of the court and back and then switch.  Routing continues till 4 minutes is complete.

Stay at Tennis Court for a Lazy Dora (one of YHC’s favorites…and everyone else ;).  100 Merkins, 200 LBC’s, 300 Jump Squats.  One partner will start Merkins to a 10 count, while other partner is holding plank.  The switch will take place at each 10 count till 100 is reached.  For the LBC’s, partner will be holding 6″ inches and the switch will occur at each 20 count till 200 is reached.  For the jump squats, partner will be holding Al Gore and switch will occur at 25 count till 300 is reached.

Mosey to the steps for an arm smoker:  Continue with partners.  One partner will run down the steps to the benches at the bottom of steps and perform 15 dips, while partner 2 is holding plank.  Partner completing the dips, runs back up steps to join his partner in plank for 15 BooYah Merkins, then switch.  A total of 5 rounds to be completed.

Form a Native American run line.  Pax member in front peels of to the side and performs as many Burpees as possible till the last PAX member catches up and then will fall back in line.  As this is happening, the next PAX member at the front is peeling off for Burpees.  Continue up the road and around large traffic circle back to the “flag” (YHC needs to acquire a flag to carry around…can’t take the one of the house).

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

Announcements:  Vinny asks for support of the Hoo’s!  Swirly offered prayers for those who wish to stay up for the game.  Tip off 9:20!

NMS: YHC thanks you for allowing me to lead a great group of men on YHC’s 48 Birthday!  I have been blessed many times over in my lifetime and being a part of this group has certainly been one of those great blessings.  YHC missed his one year anniversary a few weeks ago, due to a trip out of town, but fortunate enough to be present for this occasion.  Be grateful for what you have and make sure you recognize those brothers around you that may be struggling.  Have a great day, men!

  • Book-End Burpee Beast is no ABB

Seven suspects came out on April Fools day to see if it indeed might be an All Burpee-Beast. Turns out only Toga would do that to the PAX but we did do our share of Burpees.

COP – Invisible Jump Rope, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys. Head over to bowl field for the Beast:

Round 1 Burpees, R2 Merkins, R3 WWIIs, R4 JumpSquats, R5 LBCs, Round 6 Burpees Again. Then head over to playground to introduce Batteau pax to:

Chazz Michael Michaels: 3 Rounds of 8. Then 3 sets of 25 Boxing Dying Roaches. Then set of Pickle Pounders. Mosey over to maintenance vehicle lot: Various animal transportation forms up the hill.

Over to Tennis courts: Suicides of Backwards run, side shuffle, forward, then Wheelbarrow across. Back to field for hill sprint up and back. Another set of Pickle Pounders then back to flag for RoF and COT. Sugar Sock took us out.

NMS: YHC took pity on the PAX and saved the 2nd round of Burpees in the Beast for the last round. The original intent was to do round 2 of Burpees and let the PAX ponder whether we might actually do all 6 rounds as burpees. Turns out starting and ending the beast on the hill with burpees was plenty. The only one disappointed by us not doing ABB was Sippy Cup.

The Chazz Michael Michaels traveled SOJ and the Batteau pax seemed to enjoy them.

Faceplant has a $50 off tattoo coupon if anyone is looking to get Ink’ed up for Spring Break. Great to have 7 out in the 30 degree temps. Mother Nature was the one with the trick this morning.

  • Sweet 16

7 Veterans and 1 FNG descended upon the hills of Forrest Hill Park to celebrate Virginia Tech’s glorious victory and berth in the Sweet 16.

Here is how it went down, more or less.

Mosey about 10 steps to warmup and pick up stragglers. All IC: SSH x 16, Helicopters x 16, Don Quixote x 16, LBC x 16, Merkins x 15 (yes Q screwed that count up)

Mosey through the pit and down the Hill of Ill Repute only to discover all the lights around the pond were off. Well, we need to get back up the hill so partner up, 1 man runs to pit and back while other alternates between lunges and bear crawl.

In the pit, switch partners. While 1 man runs up to the top the other performs Dips. Switch to decline Merkins the second time through.

Mosey to the top for a DORA in the SOJ Farmers Market lot, which was about the only place the lights were on this morning. 116 x Merkins, 216 x squats, 316 x LBC

Mosey back to Stone House for Partner Leg Toss. 4 sets of, you guess it, 16.

Curb crawls on the street, bear crawl to far curb, 1 incline merkin, crawl bear back to first curb, 2 decline merkins…repeato at 5 and back down

Merkin ring of fire, 5 x PAX choice, different variation than PAX before.

    Mary, all IC: 2 count Flutter Kicks x 25, APD x 25, WW2 x 25.

    Announcements: Go Hokies!

NMS: Great work out there today, men. The lack of lights threw YHC a curve, but we managed. Thanks for the opportunity to lead. We saw over the weekend that there are multiple ways to give men that opportunity, and I am grateful for the path Bleeder, Swirly, and many others have chosen to do so. May we all have the strength and wisdom to remember those roots as we carry on the goodness that is F3RVA.

We welcomed a new member to our tribe, Upgrade, who absolutely crushed it this morning. Upgrade is a recent VMI grad, from Richmond, who likes to run, lift, and has spent some time with SEAL team. YHC threw out the name “Gump” which landed with a thud. Someone called out “Upgrade!”, which Hardywood pointed out was perfect as Gump needed an upgrade and the dude is young and in good shape already and an upgrade to the PAX….so the legend goes. Welcome Upgrade!
