    Best Shot took us out

    Moleskin

By all accounts, The PAX ran 3.2 miles. Scrappy’s comment to Best Shot, “Bleeder Q, it’s going to be all upper body and Abs!” Although YHC is quite effective with Upper Body workouts, YHC wanted to see some mileage in BRR prep mode; hopefully Scrappy was not disappointed.

Both BT and Sippy were back in action after some time out of town, The cost differential for a cup of coffee between the two trips is being analyzed. YHC is pretty sure, Sipp’s coffee was going to fresher than BT’s; South Carolina versus South America. Both sounded like great trips!

Several announcements, Please see other backblast’s for more details on those.

    Bleeder out

  • New wakeup service tested

A Fiesty five found their way to Batteau. YHC exclaimed he needed to serve up some ab work after a week at the beach.

COP- Invisible Jump Rope, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Don Qs.

Jacobs Ladder- Run from tree to tree across the Batteau bowl fueld, up to 7 Burpees. Back to COP for Mary- WWII situps, American Hammers. Mosey to shack behind tennis courts for Donkey Kicks & lunges. 3 sets of 20.

Mosey ot Tennis courts. 4 rounds of 20 Merkins, bear crawl to net, 30 LBCs.

Mosey to Playground for Pull-ups- 3 sets of 6. Then some more mary.

Head back to Stone house for Burpee Escalator- EMOM burpees starting at 5 on up to 10.

NMS – YHC is glad to be back in the gloom after a week off. Everyone put in a strong effort. With Jacobs Ladder Burpees to start then 45 Burpees to end during the escalator we got in plenty.

During the Donkey Kicks the PAX all found a patch of brick to kick on, except for Cottonmouth who opted to kick away on the metal garage door. Luckily nobody was inside the shed. We did discover that Donkey Kicks on the garage door is a great wake-up call. Viral you can expect a visit at 5:00 next time you Q. Hopefully Cottonmouth’s procedure goes well so he can partake in Burpees soon.

Announcements – ReeseStrong5k and after party Preblast is up. 3 Yr anniversary at GridIron on 9/30.

  • Didn’t Cross the River and No Tolls Paid!

Lugnut, Jville & Wilson started SOJ takeover week with Rosie at the helm……..think of Rosie as William Wallace.

It was a beautiful morning and the New Market Clown car actually saw Swirly running (actually stopped at a light) to the AO. Eight men and one lady showed up to make themselves faster & stronger.

Here is how it went down:

COP: Short mosey around island and circle up with disclaimer. SSH, Homer to Marge, Arm Circles & Sword Fight.

    Mosey to the large field for Jacob’s Ladder – 11’s. 10 LBC’s & 1 Merkin………….

Mosey to tennis courts for the Whore!

Four corners with circle back repeats. 10 Merkins, 20 Jump Squats, 30 Box Jumps & 40 Burpees

Staying on courts circle up for Ring of Fire with Flair. YHC requested no regular merkins, but done with something extra. I think we can all agree Bleeder’s was cool, but Sippy took the cake with the amount of balance and agility it took to knock those out!

Finish with a dealers choice of Mary. that took us right tot he end. Flipper took us out and we discussed a lot of stuff going on in September. Which if I try to recreate, I will get dates wrong etc……..

Today started the SOJ takeover week. I was excited to lead today and yet nervous as I had only been to Batteau one other time. That is a cool AO with a ton to do and YHC barely scratched the surface. Many thanks to Swirly for the guidance in the dark. As YHC was deciding how far to take Jacobs ladder, Bleeder blurts out “just go tree to tree”. Yup, that was tough. It’s a good distance across that dip. And I believe it was not even the steepest part of the field. YHC is really impressed with Dr. Jim Holland’s program that Bleeder is on. YHC asked him for an exercise and the answer came out of Bleeder. Just AMAZING. Well done Dr. Jim!

Today was fun and the SOJ PAX is looking forward to a solid week!

  • Is this still July?

Six studs posted to Batteau to take advantage of the fall-like temperatures. 60 degrees and sunny, with a cool dew covering the ground made for a great way to close out July.

COP – Invisible Jump Rope, Don Q, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Arm Circles.

Mosey to Tennis Courts. Triple check of Plerkins & run around tennis court. Then partner up for PLTs – 3 sets of 20 each.

Mosey down to the lake- 4 rounds of 20 Box Jumps/Derkins, run up hill to bridge, 3 Burpees.

Head back up hill alternating Lunges & Bear Crawl. Stop for 20 Derkins then back to flag for Mary- LBCS, American Hammers, Heels 2 Heaven. Finish with 10 Burpees.

NMS- The PAX this morning was all business. YHC arrived with Hardywood and Swirly having secured the AO. With 3 min to start and only us 3 there YHC knew we’d have to get after it to challenge this pax, especially when Sippy Cup came in. We knew it was on when Flipper arrived ON TIME with 1 minute to spare, and BT to make it an even 6.

The Plerkins were a great way to start. YHC learned that a planking BT can pass for a bench in a pinch. Dude was like a doing Derkins on a bench. Also in a pinch if you ever need a 160 BPM Metronome for some reason but don’t have one handy you can grab Swirly and start him on some PLTs.

The cold dew felt great when on the ground. Hardywood must have enjoyed it more rocking his signature Jerusalem Cruisers.

Mumblechatter was on Flipper posting in another town again. Apparently RVA brings it like no other, no taking the pedal off the gas this morning.

Sippy Cup crushed the hills, he says he isn’t 100% but could fool YHC. The Bear Crawl at the end was purely to boost YHC’S morale. A Flipper -Honeydo bear crawl combo in a ghost flag relay would be similar to the  2017 Golden State Warriors, just sayin.

Announcements – August challenge is 100 Miles, just in time for BRR!   Hardywood knows a guy if you are doing a breakfast meeting in the next few weeks. Also prayers for White Deer in his father’s passing last week.

    Silent Assassin signing off.

Return to shovelflag for Namerama/Numberama and COT

    NMS:

After signing up for VQ week, YHC had a couple week break while on vacation / vacation recovery. After a lackadaisical return to F3, what better way to ensure a post than signing up to Q?

YHC wanted to return to the lake (pond?) as it was a fixture in my early days of posting at Batteau, but the PAX has not visited in recent months. YHC envisioned more time being spent on the lake loops, but when Depends needed to modify after loop 2 due to injury recovery YHC decided it was time to cut the running short and mosey back up the hill.

Not much was planned for after the lake loops, so the remainder of the workout was disjointed. Thanks to Honeydo for helping out with suggestions – and the rest of the PAX for sticking in with me on a random assortment.

Welcome to RVA, Depends! He will be staying up here for 5 weeks while visiting from Lake Murray, SC – so make him feel at home!

  • West Enders own Batteau

Three gentlemen from north of the James posted at Batteau on a brutally humid morning. Here is what went down:

COP – SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, DQs, Imperial Walkers.

Head to tennis courts- Polar bear to net, 5 Merkins then back, 5 Merkins. Repeato. Then Triple check of Elbow Planks, partner jumps over and back of planker, and run.

Mosey to playground- 4 sets of 6 Pull-ups. Mosey around the lake- take path down and around, stopping at lampposts to do either 5 Burpees, 10 Merkins, or 15 WWII situps. Msey back up to tennis courts. 5 min mary, then back to Pull-up bars for 3 more sets of 4.

Head down to run up full Forest Hill. 5 Burpees at top. Back to flag for more mary and 20 Merkins finish. Flipper took us out.

NMS – It is never good on the drive over to the AO when you have to turn your wipers on and it is NOT raining. The July humidity was in full effect making it a truly gloomy morning in the gloom.

With Swirly or Hardywood out of town, YHC began to worry he might be Solo until Flipper hauled in at 5:29. We ran around and then get Fudd in the COP.

The small numbers let the Pax get all the pull-ups they wanted on the playground. Flipper and Fudd both crushed them. On our mosey around the lake Fudd shared what fun he had being dragged at Dogpile.

At the end it was great to watch Flipper knock out the last Pull-up sets on his own. A true testament to getting stronger.

Announcements – 4th July Convergence at Dogpile at 6 am.

    Silent Assassin signing off.

  • VQ’pon

A fearless 8 Warriors showed up for a virgin Q at Batteau on a cool summer morning. Something similar to the below transpired:

Mosey to the bottom of the steps for COP

    • SSH x 20
    • Don Quixote x 20
    • Arm Circles x 20 (give or take)
    • LBC’s x 20
    • Merkins x 10
    • Imperial Walkers x 20

    Eleven’s:

    • Box jumps at the bottom, WWII situps at the road
    • Plank for 6 – pick up Rapunzel

Mosey to the stone wall behind tennis courts for receipt of coupon (VQ’pon). Partner up – Partner A grabs a coupon and Partner B runs along side for moral support. Mosey to playground.

    Coupon Playground:

Partner A does 5 pullups and 10 Incline Merkins while Partner B grabs the coupon and does lunges around the perimeter of the playground. Switch off when Partner A is complete – repeat up to 3 rounds.

Partner B grabs the coupon and the PAX mosey’s to the Stone House.

    Coupon Chair:

Partner A does People’s Chair with the coupon on their lap, while Partner B runs a lap around the magnolia and back. Switch off and repeat up to 3 rounds.

Partner A & B tag team the mosey back to the stone wall to deposit the coupon in it’s resting place. Mosey back to shovel flag for 10 minutes of Mary.

    Mary’s Merkins

    • LBC’s x 20
    • 10 Merkins OYO
    • Flutterkicks x 20
    • 10 Merkins OYO
    • Freddie Mercury x 20
    • 10 Merkins OYO

    Namerama/Numberama/COT

    NMS

YHC arrived to the AO “Swirly early” to scout out the coupon situation – I could have sworn there were coupons located next to a tree near the Jacobs ladder field. No matter – YHC found 4 coupons at the stone wall and 8 PAX were in attendance making the plan work as desired.

After scouting the AO, YHC was waiting by the car when he heard the ominous hooting of an owl from a neighboring tree. Thinking this was an ambush planned for Sippy Cup, YHC kept a weather eye on the road from the Nickel Bridge to see the carnage in action…no air attacks happened today as Sippy drove to the AO.

Tobit and Swirly crushed the Eleven’s – way to go fellas. YHC messed up the counting a bit on the Arm Circles, and even called merkins pushups once (thanks Singer for the reminder!). After the Eleven’s the PAX stayed close together and crushed everything as a group.

Thanks for allowing me to lead this morning, fellas! It was an honor and a privilege. Thanks to Tobit and Rapunzel for coming out to support YHC on his VQ.

Why walk when you can Wheelbarrow?

  • 5 Potato

5 steely knuckleheads got the week started off on the right foot and tackled the challenge that is Batteau.  Here’s how it went down.

    The Thang:

Swirly on the Q:  COP:  SSH, Helicopters , Windmills, Imperial Walkers, LBC’s, APD’s, Flutter Kicks

Start at playground for 3 sets of:  5 x pullups, 10 x incline merkins, 10 x decline merkins,  run to tree.

Mosey to benches for 3 sets of: 20 dips and 20 step ups

Q pitched to BT, mosey to field for Super 7’s (7 burpees, run across field to perform 7 merkins and 7 squats, run back to start.  Complete 7x).

Soft handoff to Phonics for last Q.  Adjourn to the near field for some ab and chest work.  LBCs, Freddie Mercuries, and a whole bunch of tortuous merkin exercises to include (5 ) 2-ct merkins, 2″ plank hold, (5) 2-ct half merkins.  2, maybe 3 rounds.  Some other stuff? Quick tempo for sure.

Run to 6 trees, perform 5 burpees at each.  Mosey back to flag and finish out with 20 merkins apiece.

    COT:  Phonics took us out.

Moleskin:  YHC was Lifo for the first time that he can remember, having had to turn around to get his gloves and being 99% certain curb crawls were on the menu.  Thankfully, none of that nonsense happened, but plenty of other pain was there to greet us.  Great to meet Mindfreak for the first time, and since YHC has been on the road waaaay more than needed it was good to get back to a solid beatdown and sweat with Swirly, Hardywood and Phonics.  If my count is correct, we completed 195 merkins for those doing the challenge this month.  Things I learned today:

    • Mindfreak is a super talent and can beat China’s best 7 yr old at Rubik’s cube completion while juggling on a unicycle.
    • Hot potato Q’s always, always bring the pain.
    • If your choices for the last Q are Phonics, Hardywood and Mindfreak, chances are it’s gonna hurt.

    Announcements:

    • ReeseStrong 5k is in September, get ready.
    • BRR training is in full swing.
    • Lockjaw has the HDHH reins, not sure when it is but it’s coming!
    • Bleeder is doing well across the pond and intends to beat Will and Harry down in the gloom in front of Buckingham Palace.

Great to be part of the Q Crew today, and always great to be back.  See you in the gloom!
