  • Breaking Bread Thanksgiving Edition

YHC and his 2.0 daughter grabbed the Q for the post-Turkey Day Saturday and cooked up some tasty Mac N Cheese, fruit bowls and homemade brownies. The meat went a little awry with a busy Saturday, so what is a sure solution – a large tray of Chick-Fil-A strips…a quick order of that and throw in some SunJoy and the meal was set. Dropoff was greeted with smiles and gratitude. A great way to close the Thanksgiving Holiday.

If you haven’t grabbed a Breaking Bread Q – do it. You can cook a great meal, you can buy a meal or, like YHC and Snare, you can go hybrid – whatever works, just show up with a tasty meal and some smiles and fellowship for those who really need it.

  • Chicken Pot Chicken Pot Chicken Pot Pie

YHC grabbed The Breaking Bread Q this Sunday and threw down a Chicken Pot Pie that any chef from a 3 star Michelin restaurant would be proud of. Rotisserie chicken? Yes please. Sauteed vegetables? Ohhh yes…Pillsbury biscuits on the top. Absolutely.

Wegman’s cookies, fruit and some iced tea to pull it all together.

    Bag drop promptly at 530pm.

  • Breaking Bread! Pizza Party

5 in respite, 1 Michael (staff) and YHC enjoyed the cheese, the pepperonis, the bread sticks, the garlic butter, the Greek salad and these slightly addictive cinnasquares.

  • It’s Burrito Time Baby

Burritos were the call.  The M and 2.0 jumped in to help.  My 2.0 browned, drained and seasoned the ground beef.  The M picked out tea and lemonade to drink and a seasonal dessert, a pumpkin roll, prepared by none other than Kroger.  We dropped off the items, with all the fixins (shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, sour cream, salsa) a pile of tortillas and tortilla chips (party size of course), drinks and dessert and headed out to see our nephew’s evening soccer game.  Good family fun.  Oyster, thanks for the details and holding this position down.  See y’all in the gloom!

  • Breaking Bread Sunday Pizza Edition

YHC and 2.0 Snare delivered an abundance of piping hot Genova’s pizza along with some homemade goodies and sides to the great folks at the Daily Planet on Sunday. As we walked in we got a hearty welcome and a joyous “we were hoping for pizza”. Boom, wish granted! Football was on the tv. Service and fellowship was had for a short while and souls were fed.

they were still talking about Vandelay’s sandwiches too.

fill up that Q- sheet for the last weekend of the month men!

  • Breaking Bread

My 2.0 and yours truly had the privilege of serving homemade sandwiches and soup to 10 souls at the Southside Health Center. Thanks for coordinating @Oyster.

  • Backyard Barbeque

Fresh off the Annual Iron Chef competition (Saturday), nine food prospectors assembled in this evening’s edition of Breaking Bread. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the people STILL lined up in the drive-through of the now defunct Wendy’s, the following might have been served:

    Fried chicken
    Homemade mashed potatoes
    Cole slaw
    Lemon Bars
    Cookies
Iced tea, lemonade…but, no one made an Arnold Palmer

There was also a delicious looking set of leftovers from Saturday.

Numbers, names, and everyone had a wonderful evening.

  • Iron Chef – F3RVA Edition

YHC’s 2.0s entered the arena and threw down for the title of Iron Chef F3RVA.  Llama prepared the side while BB-8 tackled dessert.  Here’s what was served:

    • Aged loin of farm raised boar marinaded in a honey bacon glaze, seared and slightly smoky, cooked to 145 degrees internal
    • Diced Idaho potatoes tossed with extra virgin olive oil and shaken with assorted herbs and spices then roasted until slightly charred with a smooth soft interior
    • Vanilla mousse parfait layered with sliced organic bananas and wafers and finished with a light crème fraiche topping and wafer crumbles
    • Signature cocktail was an Arnold Palmer served over frozen cubes or spring water

    Numberama, Nameorama, COT

    MOLESKIN

Winners were the good folks at the Daily Planet Medical Respite.  Always a pleasure to give back.  2.0s agree.

  • Breaking Bread

A successful venture! They are very appreciative of the hot meal! I got there at 5:30 PM.

I brought 2 Stouffer’s lasagna (each feeds 7), a carton of mixed spring greens, a bottle of Ranch and a bottle of balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing, cut up some carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes so that they could be added to the salad, 24 mini cupcakes, and 1 1/2 gallons of lemonade. Unfortunately, I left the rolls at home.

I had to drop off because we went out of town that evening.

I had some trouble finding the place. It’s a 2-story red brick building with the entrance on the right (as you face the building). On the opposite side of the street, there is the white and yellow sign for the Richmond Police Station, 2nd precinct and an orange and white Sign for Orange Beauty Supplies. I found this more useful in identifying the location than the Wendy’s which has been shut down.

  • Breaking Chick Fil A

10 patients awaited a hot meal. A busy day made cooking not an option. No worries, fire up the CFA app order a bunch of chicken strips, some fruit, some Mac N Cheese, a gallon of tea and a gallon of lemonade and boom – dinner is served. Throw in some cookies made by YHC’s 2.0, and her and I delivered and served up a hot meal to the fine folks at The Daily Planet. It can be that simple gents. If you haven’t done it yet, do it. They need it, and they appreciate it.
