Completely Stupid and Udderly Pointless

  • Sunday bonus beatdown, with Snurpees

Four from Sippy’s Dogpile gathered again for an extra Sunday beatdown in the snow and to plant a shovel flag in maybe the deepest snow seen at any F3..  Conditions were 20 degrees and a little icy but to those of us who like to play in the snow it felt like 70 and sunny:

Start on Lindsey Rd with Mosey to Westham Pkwy.  COP in the road: 30 SSH, 15 Merkins, 20 Jump Squats, 25 Don Qs.  Mosey back up to School:  Bear Crawl up fresh snow on hill x4

Mosey to Forest – Merkins in the road, Mosey back to Westham.  Stop midway for 100 LBCs.  More Merkins at Westham.  Lunge 50 yards then mosey back to Forest.  Merkins in the road x12, 25 Jump Squats, then Crab Walk 50 yards then mosey back to Westham.

Stop in school parking lot:  Broad Jump length of parking lot in virgin snow.  Mosey back to Westham, more merkins, then Bear Crawl up hill x3 again.

Finish with 4 min Mary in the road-  60 LBCs, 20 Alabama Prop Dates, 20 BoxCutters, 20 Rosalitas.

Finish back at Shovel Flag with 10 Burpees in virgin snow – Snurpees.

    Moleskin:

YHC threw out a suggestion after all the fun at Dogpile yesterday to have a Sunday beatdown since the Trails were closed.  Since TES is near many RVA PAX with the road conditions YHC chose it.  Glad to see 3 others from yesterday there.  There was a lot of going back & forth on Lindsey as the 14+ inches of snow made it difficult to go off the road.  When the PAX did venture off the road it got messy quick with the uphill Bear Crawl getting the PAX covered in snow.

The broad jumps across parking lot were very tough, YHC was wiped out after that.  The Snurpees at the end were fun to see how our weight could leave a detailed impression after finishing.  Lots of discussion on the mosey about BRR, again if you haven’t signed up – do it!

With all the snow and ice none of the PAX slipped or wiped out.  YHC fell backwards during the broad jumps but that was from exhaustion not ice.

For those who haven’t posted in the snow yet – come out to an AO you can get to this week, the snow isn’t going away anytime soon. If you are worried about your feet getting cold talk to TYA about his wrapping your feet in grocery bags strategy. It is always fun to get out and play in the snow no matter what age you are!

  • Bear (or Beer) Creek Trail Run

8 Faithful F3ers and 142+ other folks posted for a trail run at Bear Creek State Park. Weather was a little chilly to start but was glorious by end of the run

    The Thang:

5 mile out and 5 mile back trail run. Try to follow the white markers and white blazes on the trees to stay on route.

    Moleskin

Much like the BRR descriptions of the terrain, the Bear Creek description that YHC received from Saab and LockJaw was nowhere near what was described. Relatively flat, no significant elevation changes. I saw no flat ground the whole run and although the elevation change was not a mountain goat hard leg, there were some pretty good hills. Five (or more) stream crossings along the way. Thankfully the recent weather left the stream levels low and at most the water hit the top of your shoes.

First trail race for several of us. I know that it was the virgin trail run for Splinter, Oyster, Offshore, and TYA. I know for sure that Saab, Lab Rat and Lockjaw have done trail runs before. Not sure about Honeydo.

Tclaps to Lab Rat for the post race meal. He threw together a rice, chicken and hot dog treat that hit the spot post race. Great second F after the race with a variety of adult and non adult beverages available. Splinter and Oyster’s daughter enjoyed a post race chocolate milk. Tclaps to Oyster wife for the post race Dunkin Donuts. Beer and donuts are a great combination.

Much talk after the race about the BRR and this experience. Saab declared that he would most likely not do the BRR again because “how could it possibly top the first experience at the BRR”. Well, I say that we find out how.

Back to the RVA trails next week.

  • Rugged Mania Part-Deux

6 Pax and 8 friends and relatives posted at 11 am for the second running of the Rugged Mania.

    The Thang:

3.1 mile trail run, 26 Obstacles, Mud all around and plenty of cold water.

    Moleskin

Bleeder posted at 10:59:59 for the 11 am start.  He taped his shoes to his body during the first quarter mile and was off from there.  Loose Goose brought the family out to cheer the team on.  Carmen and his 2 children were a great cheering section.  They were joined by Circle K’s M and 2.0.  M Circle K did a great job of capturing a bunch of pictures of the crew.

Wilson had the best (worst) pair of shoes for the rugged maniac.  At the start, the sole of one shoe was hanging on by  a thread.  They survived the race, but I am not sure they are usable after.  Wilson’s M warned him not to wear any clothing he wanted to keep as she was throwing away anything he wore during the race.  YHC should have taken Wilson’s wife’s advice because after doing his laundry the washing machine is now littered with small pebbles.  Good lesson for next time, either trash the clothes or hose them down before putting in washer.

Herbie brought her sister, four gymnastics pals and a school friend to the race.  They all ran the race together with new hand decorated shirts.  They all did a great job, handling all the obstacles. They did showboat on the small balance beams by doing a handstand on them on the way across.  M TYA and friend rocked the race as well.

Rugged Maniac drastically improved the parking process this time around.  No waiting in line to pay for parking.  Much better experience as a result.

  • 1st Annual BrewThru Recap

Eight reindeer ran into the gloom for a special holiday tradition that will be repeated.  We had perfect weather and a solid dose of good cheer to see us through.

    THANG:

Welcome and disclaimer.  Consume.  Run from Stangeways Brewing to Ardent Craft Ales.  We planked a couple of times to stay in a group and had a celebratory set of decline merkins on the steps of Ardent.  Consume.

Run from Ardent to Isley Brewing Company.  Peoples chair, rosalitas, and staggered merkins before entering.  Consume.

Run from Isley to Hardywood Park Craft Brewing.  Consumed and talked about doing it again with different venues.

    Moleskin:

The PAX agreed that this was a worthy endeavor, and it’s a shame so many were in the sick ward and couldn’t attend.  YHC barely made it following his own illness #CarrierMonkey.  Dabney Rd proved to be the most “interesting” section as there was no sidewalk, lights, and very little cautious driving.  We were well equipped with lights and leftover Halloween glow sticks provided by Pelosi 5-0.

Lockjaw, who helped plan this little excursion, remained oddly certain of our directions through the industrial park despite two errors, #SelfConfidence #IDontNeedDirections.

There were a couple of stares as we executed merkins in front of Isley.  YHC chalks it up to jealousy of the fun being shared.  We just need a bigger reindeer team the next time we do this.  Doner Kebab earned a LIFO for leaving us at Isley, but it should be noted that he was going straight to an event with his wife.  Lesser folks would not have attempted this.

This will without go down as my favorite Christmas/Holiday Party.

We also had some great pics along the way, but the ghost of Mr Jobs killed my phone this morning.  Recovery is looking unlikely.
