  • Your Mom is How Much Younger Than Your Dad?

6 quarter horses trotted up to the paddock for the latest edition of Currahee. Conditions remained constant at 70 and sunny. According to the guy shooting hoops at Godwin, the following might have happened.

    Route(s):

Part A: Right on Pump. Left immediately onto Old Prescott. Run to the end of the Cul-de-Sac and back to the VSF.

Part B: Run to the trail at the back middle of Godwin HS (up the steps). Exit onto Maremont. Immediate left onto Willowick. Right on Avenham. Right on Raintree. Left on Maremont (which loops around to Raintree). Right on Raintree. Left on Maremont back to the VSF.

    4 milers: Do Part A 1x and do Part B 2x

    5 milers: Do both Parts A and B 2x.

    6 milers: Do Part A 3x and do Part B 2x.

Run in any order you choose. The PAX chose to stay together, except for Pigskin who was sighted on the Maremont loop lugging kettlebells.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

Tomorrow, lots of options. First and foremost, there is a new AO launching. The Iron Bridge. Goyne Park. Chester, VA. See Slack for time. State Farm has the Q. Be prepared to bring it.

If you don’t fancy hanging with cool dudes at The Iron Bridge, you can always hang with Gypsy and the Expendables / Disposables / Despicables at The Gridiron, Redwood Original, F3RVA’s first (and therefore oldest, pun intended) AO. Wear your vest, and show your bottom rocker. Jax Teller has the Q.

Or, trot yourself over to Les Dogpile at 06:00 where ole’ UpChuck will lead a set of slow stretching exercises for the hour. Rumors that the PAX will migrate to The Early Bird Biscuit Company at 06:30 are not true. They don’t open until 7.

Monday, Davey Crockett himself has the Q at The Alamo. Come celebrate Wildcat’s birthday. Be there. Bring your Summer Tour passport. Special room rates at the Residence Inn Rountree.

July 4th. Convergence. Forest Hill Park. Pickleball paddle not required, just a good set of gloves and preparedness for a sweat fest.

August 21. First Watch. Come celebrate YHC’s father’s 100th birthday. Should be a hoot. 05:00.

YHC believes there is a kid’s workout at DaPile this weekend as well, but double check with those fellas.

NMS: Good chatter this morning across the 5 runners. Man, those are some good dudes. Special thanks to Mr. Rogers who clearly has a gift for listening. It will surprise no one that YHC did 90% of the talking, and Mr. Roger’s did 100% of the teaching. Super thankful for this line, “When do I get to be first?” (If you just thought, “yeah, what about me?” then you have missed the point.) Do things for other people. It’s not about you.

July Challenge: what are you going to give up? YHC suggests…embellishing, bs’ing, changing things to fit yourself. This group is about being humble enough to ask for help, give help, and build through mutual help. If someone takes the time to give you help, chances are you should take it. If someone thinks, “Man, I don’t really need help,” that might be a good time to consider whether your colleagues would agree.

BRR….still time to sign up for one of the biggest challenges F3RVA has to offer. Spend 2 days with your pals. Make friendships. Conquer many, many mountains. Grow yourself. Contact TYA for details. When he does not respond to your texts, ask for help.

BTW, YHC is usually the winner with the answer to the Back Blast title at 15 years. But, not with this crowd. Two dads of these hombres clock in at 19 years older than Momma.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • Surprise!! guess who’s the Q?

90% of the 8 men that made it to Curahee this morning assumed that YHC would be the SOJ rep to Q the run and they were correct. It was pointed out that if you are a regular at that AO, you technically shouldn’t be allowed to Q it as a takeover.

5:30 lets roll, Right on Pump, left to Dunkin, Right on Glen Eagles and up the big hill

YHC had no real plan except that I wanted to start with that hill. After some discussion with Mr Rogers and Light House about what could be added to the route YHC decided to cut through the apartments get on Pump to Broad and then come back down John Rolfe. However when YHC got close to Broad I realized I was already on John Rolfe (not Pump) so instead of going right I had to go left. Once YHC got on to Pump I saw Mr Rogers and Light House coming from the park and we all headed BTTF

Numbers / Names Mr Rogers took us out

NMS: So ends a week of Q’ing runs for the SOJ takeover, if Atlee wasn’t a 40 minute drive for YHC I would probably make it to those runs at least once a week. I encourage each one of you guys to get out and see as many new AO’s as you can or visit ones you haven’t been to in a while.

  • Trail run for the Sour Cream Boys

It is finally light enough in the morning to hit the trails. So that is what we did. There were warnings that the trail would be under water. I scoffed at the notion and off we went. I was right. Trail was filled with the normal root obstacles but no water. The first group down the trail ended up taking the long way through the condo complex at the end while the second group, led by Gypsy, took a short cut and ended up in the lead. We all met up on Cox and made our way back before the 45 minute clock expired. Almost 5 miles total with some good hills mixed in. It felt cool to start but by the end was hot and muggy.

We then took part in National Donut Day. Sour cream donuts were popular with some. Good to see Carl out a second time post Gridiron although when he learned 5:30 was the normal weekday start time, you could hear the gears turning in his head. Can’t blame him. No rising senior in high school should think that is a good idea. I barely do.

  • Run Forest Run! OH *@#!! He missed the turn…

Perfect morning for a run. We gathered to put in the Miles today in preparation pools and beaches. Last Friday of the month is Bro-code run, we try and stick together as a group and circle back regularly to pick up anyone who is following at a different pace. Doozy managed to get himself lost(again) and lighthouse and Mr. Rogers went on recon to bring him back to the flag. Mumble chatter along the way was conversation about kids in college and exploration overseas; as Upchuck daughter will be headed to London in the fall for her freshman year college. Concerns for her well-being and socialization was discussed and shared. All ended up back at the same place eventually. Prayers for splinter and his mom as she is battling leukemia. Prayers lifted for all those graduating and starting new experiences and/or adult life. Closed in prayer and some of us headed to Dunkin for coffee time. Have a great week. Hope June is fantastic for all summer tour.

Don’t forget, Whitesnake’s band tomorrow at Kindred Spirits (City location near Score) 2-4 Saturday.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Prayers for Pinto’s GF’s son post leg surgery

  • Sweaty Lorraine

4 of us ran five miles to Lake Lorraine and back, 1 Grow Ruck survivor ran and walked a bit less and 2 others probably worked the hardest doing laps around Godwin with some combo of Merkins and dips and maybe a squat or two.

    We were all sweaty.
    Have a great Friday everyone!

  • Scavenger Hunt

When you have a fierce group of men, you don’t treat them like babies and give them step-by-step instructions. You treat them like teenagers, and give them a Scavenger Hunt – teens love that crap.  These Westhoian Warriors, and a speed demon called Doozy, were challenged to find a Covered Bridge, a Publix, a Waffle House (Westhoe’s finest new establishment, besides Perry’s), a Dunkin and to run a loop around John Ralph Square.  Any order.  Any way possible.  Improvise & Adapt.  Overcome & Get ‘Er Done.  Some ran to all 5 locations and earned a Gold Star.  Doozy and Gypsy really went for it and made the task harder intentionally.  Pigskin found one item on the list and then did whatever he wanted.  Who’s gonna stop him?!   And just like teenagers, some just walked around and talked.  In short, it was Amazing.

    Announcements:

It’s Grow Ruck time.  Only hours away!

Cul-de-sac Series. This is a running event/group/thing. They get together every Monday night in July. Gypsy could use a training partner for intervals. If you have an interest, hit up Gypsy.

Westhoe Shield Lock is starting a new book, 12 Rules for Life.  It’s a great time to jump in and join us.

Prayers for creative new ways to help bring in FNGs, so they can get what we so freely enjoy.  And prayers for safety and spiritual growth for all Grow Ruckers this wkend.

    See y’all at the Convergence!

  • Glen Eagles Hills

Eight of us gathered on a crisp spring morning for a run/walk session. Four of us, inspired by Mr. Rogers’ discovery, took on the challenge of running Glen Eagles Drive, complete with its inviting cul-de-sacs—a route thoroughly enjoyed by all. Meanwhile, Blue Moon and Pig Skin circled the school grounds, and E.F. Hutton was rucking in preparation for May 4th, with Handshake providing companionship. The runners logged five miles in total. At the conclusion, we gathered to send our prayers for Gypsy’s success in his upcoming half-marathon—a challenge he triumphantly met.

  • Aircraft Carrier Landing

Rather than explain today’s route, YHC ran out front and signaled each turn as if directing a fighter jet landing at sea.  Here’s where we landed:

    The Route

    • R on Pump
    • L on John Rolfe
    • R at Rico’s and through the woods to TLL
    • Loop around the TSI building and out Little League Drive
    • L on Copperas
    • L on Ridgefield
    • R on Old Prescott and back to the Shovel Flag
    • Loop of Godwin for those out front

    Numberama, Nameorama, COT

    MOLESKIN

No new roads added to the repertoire this week, but some off-roading added a little spice.  Slightly disappointed the PAX didn’t have to go full Parkour exiting the TLL complex.  Wally and Lulu said enough of your rambling and called the COT to a close.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    • GTE – still time to sign up
    • Good luck to the Monument 10k-ers
