    MOLESKIN

As YHC’s M would say “I hate odd numbers!” so at 5:30 when the 7 member PAX started to mosey, YHC wasn’t sure if the “plan” for a partner day would be able to happen. Thankfully Hardywood pulled in at 5:30 and 30 second so audible didn’t need to be called.

YHC witness today that completing exercises as partners brings out the best each of use. There was more encouragement then normal, during the Beast the partners not “schedule” to do Burpees still did them, and the PAX seemed to move just a little quicker. This was just a great reminder that F3 is nothing without our fellow brothers by our side everything step of the way.

Thanks to E.F. Hutton and Hardywood for the making the trip to “The North” today!

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    Announcements:

    • Convergence tomorrow morning at Tredegar Iron Works at 7 am
    • Summer challenge continues
    • Pick 2 is getting married on Saturday! Special “family” workout at The Creek on Friday where he will have some groomsmen and bridesmaids in attendance. Bring all ages to the party!

    NMS:

Some workouts are better than others. YHC knew that he would struggle this morning after helping at a swim meet last night and feeling already dehydrated. The PAX provided the fuel for the fire and we had a solid morning at DaVille.

The COP merkin party always brings groans and this morning did not disappoint. There is something great about working in a ton of merkins right out of the gate that kicks things off well. The mumble chatter was prevalent until we fired up the 11s. Spit and Spike took off and crushed it. They enjoyed some mumble chatter along the way. Most of the rest of the PAX pushed through with limited chatter. Emoji was once again full of energy and he seemed to enjoy showing off his yellow gloves and matching shoes. Pick 2 showed a burst of energy midway through the workout. Perhaps some pre-wedding enthusiasm lit him up for that moment. Helix, the silent assassin, plowed through the workout with ruthless consistency. He is a beast.

The PAX enjoyed having Lockjaw join us as part of the summer challenge. He was a strong addition to the team and helped keep us moving along. All in all, the humid morning was well spent and no man failed to benefit from the right decision of leaving the fart sack behind for the fight.

  • Fence-Hopping

A lucky-seven took over Daville this morning to challenge our bodies and even work-in a little community service. Here is what happened.

Variety mosey (regular, karaoke, bear crawl) to football field for COP.

    COP

    SSH IC x 20

    Merkins IC x 10

Flutterkicks (Mark Spitz style) IC x 20

    Dirty dogs IC x 10

    Ball dippers IC x 10

    THANG

    Mosey to playground for 11s.

    Monkey bar 11s

Alternating leg lifts and pull-ups. Skip in between stations. Modifications, as needed, were knee raises and burpees.

    Playground ball retrieval

    Divide into two teams.

Hop over the fence and retrieve as many playground balls as possible until Q calls time.

Opposing team does as many burpees as the number of balls you collected. Team A collected 17, and Team B collected 33 (holy smoke!).

Variety mosey back to flag (regular, bear crawl, crab walk, backwards, side-shuffles and forward at various speeds); stop mid-way for some up-downs.

    Minutes of Gumby (stretching)

    Numberama, Namorama, COT/BOM

    Spike took us out.

    NMS

Mumblechatter seemed minimal this morning, and there was no chatter at all during the 11s; YHC chalks this up to extreme effort put out by all. By the end most were modifying except for Liono and Pitt Bull who are pull-up machines! Awesome effort by Pick Two to push through the last round.

YHC learned during a volunteer day at Cool Spring Elementary School that the kids are not allowed to retrieve kickballs that go over the fence. Thus, it is typically up to adult volunteers to retrieve them. What an opportunity for F3. Cannot believe the PAX grabbed up 50 balls in no time. Spike decided to experience some sympathy pain and joined YHC’s team finishing up burpees of shame.

Special thanks to Wedding Singer for making the trek out to Daville this morning. Summer tour is a great thing!

Also, kudos to Spit for taking a break from new-dad duties. Hope you get some sleep!

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    MOLESKIN

During YHC’s run yesterday, he got inspiration to take the PAX today off campus today. This is always a tough call since not all PAX members would classify themselves as “runners”. Even with this being the case, YHC decided to still to put the plan in place.

Mumble Chatter was pretty low for the most part. Since most this PAX was either very new or hadn’t posted much together, the time was spent during the running getting to know each other and words of encouragement.

    Couple more highlighters:

    • Helix was at the head of the PAX the whole time. Way to crush it!
    • Bulkhead is looking strong at every post
    • Glad to have Glide out for his 2nd post
    • Pick 2 wishes he had worn his Fitbit today since we traveled over 2.5 miles
    • The PAX ran into Hurricane while on the track. Hope to have him back out again soon

    • 2019 Reese Strong 5K is a few more months away

    NMS:

YHC’s older sister has reminded him that June 12th was one of the worst days of YHC’s life… It was on June 12th, 1993 that a girl smashed YHC’s heart after the junior prom. YHC was kinda dramatic back in the day and the memory has taken on a life of its own.

YHC’s goal for today’s workout was to dish out the same level of pain that he felt on that fateful day 25 years ago!

The PAX took off running toward the News 12 van (election day!) and made their presence known early. YHC led the PAX to some new territory “off campus” at the neighboring building. Mumble chatter was light at first and everyone noticed that Lab Rat wasn’t present or maybe only YHC noticed that…

The curb crawls provided all kinds of surprises. Spit and Spike noticed a frog at the end of the parking lot as they bear crawled toward it. The frog eventually leaped toward YHC’s spot and then was gone. The sound of more frogs in the background led some to believe that we might be under attack by a swarm of frogs soon but that never transpired.

A new section of road is being built on Atlee Rd and it involves a sizable elevation gain toward the bridge that will eventually go over the railroad tracks. YHC had in mind to make the PAX run up and down the road after seeing someone jog on it a few weeks ago. Mission accomplished. The PAX seemed to enjoy conquering new territory and getting a nice view of the surrounding area. Spike wondered if the police would arrest but then realized that he could blame the two pastors present for the decision to run on the new road. YHC let SLASH know that he could hide in the port-o-john if needed since it was halfway up the hill…

Emoji was full of crazy energy. Some things never change. Kit Kat was a silent assassin who went to work and killed the workout. Spit dominated the hill and left everyone in the dust.

YHC revealed the June 12th theme at the very end of the beat down. It may not have been as painful as having someone crush your high school heart but it was still painful. Maybe one day I’ll get over it but it may not be until June 12th, 2043 (the 50 year anniversary). I hope to still be attacking the F3 workouts at that point with my brothers in the gloom!

  • Swirly Finally Comes out to DaVille

22, yes I said 22 pax, showed up in the parking lot of Atlee to see what this Ultimate thing was all about.  Things started off with a bang with Vinny rolling out with a red Philly’s shirt on…WTF?!?  This coming from the guy that put out some coded tweet about buying tshirts from our elementary schools, or something like that.  After taking some ball busting, it turns out he did have the appropriate shirts for the workout.  It seems Spike did too, but left them in the truck…

We got things started with a quick warm up of parking lot tracers and the easiest COP ever done.  Then to make sure everybody knew we were down for a workout, we flew through a Lindsay  with merkins and WW2 situps.  Cones got set by the front runners, which you would think got done quickly…..nope!  I am herding cats while yelling across the field at Shakedown and Phonics to RUN!  Phonics is one of the fastest guys I know and there he is, meandering thru the field picking dandelions while the rest of the pax holds plank.  All in good fun, we got the field set up and went over some basic rules, like NO CONTACT (Swirly is here, mind you).  Then we got to playing…

While the white team tried to figure out how to change shirts once they were already soaked from the dew, the black team marched down field to throw the game in.  Whites took advantage of first possession by scrambling quickly in for the first score!  We didn’t get to celebrate for long though, as team black scored the next two points to take the lead.  Not to let the game get away from us, team white led by Spike and some awesome offensive plays by Wilt (Opus’ 2.0), scored a couple more of our own to take the lead back. The only major hiccup of the game came when Swirly threw a perfect throw 20 yards up the field to Wheelie….problem was he was on the wrong team, but wearing a gold long sleeve shirt (go Golden Knights?!?).  This prompted Wheelie to shed the shirt and become officially TEAM WHITE.  We reset that play as it was obvious the throw was a result of “wardrobe malfunction”.

Spike on team white and FNG Glide on team black showed the way as standouts for their squad, but glory was found throughout the pax.  Handshake caught 2 of the goals for team black that I know of.  Shakedown and The Carpenter were all over the field for team black.  Wilt as previously mentioned played up to rep the shorties very well indeed!  Also, ET (Phonics’ 2.0) showed me some of the Mudd family speed as he effortlessly dusted me when I tried to guard him for a minute.  It’s not fair.  Helix as always was all out, making sliding blocks and always in the right place at the right time, just like on the racquetball court.  Play of the day ALMOST went to Vinny, who made an epic sliding catch that nobody thought was possible….then promptly flubbed a 4 foot throw to me to kill the play.  On one hand, he could have just stood up and made the handoff….on the other hand, I hope the shoulder is ok.

When team white scored again to take the lead at 5-4, the bonehead move of the day was made by the Q (team white), who declared next score wins.  Team black marched right down our throats to make the score to tie the game for the win.

All in all, as long as Vinny’s shoulder is ok, this year’s DaVille Ultimate went awesome!  The teams were evenly matched and it was a battle to the end.  It’s great to finally get Swirly out to DaVille, even if we had to borrow one from Raleigh to get it done.  Welcome to our three FNG’s, Glide and Bulkhead, plus one that had to leave early.  Also, glad to have Swirly from Raleigh with us this morning.  Finally, thanks to all that traveled from around the RVA to see a portion of arguably the best weekday AO out there.

    FNG names:

Glide:  Glide was wearing a Houston Astros hat…I threw out ASTROGlide, which after reconsideration got shortened to Glide.  He still doesnt like the name, which makes it perfect.  Plus, everybody now KNOWS it means ASTROGlide.  Also, on a parallel note, he has a wicked Ultimate game and can Glide a frisbee.  But it’s really more about the Astroglide theme.

Bulkhead:  Bulkhead is an inactive Marine (they dont like to be called “former”) and I am Navy, so I love love love to name Marines Navy stuff.  Shakedown had a collision with him during the game and mentioned it was like hitting a brick wall…walls in the Navy are Bulkheads, so slam dunk!  The alternative was “Booze Cruise” due to his Jimmy Buffet Tshirt, but he liked that name waaaayyyy to much.

Apology of the week goes out to Vinny for making fun of your red tshirt….actually screw that!  If you were going to wear red today, it should have at least been a CAPS shirt!  Ahhhh….just busting your chops.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

The Carpenter who original had the Q today is still recovering from run-in with a nail and his foot reach out to YHC to switch Q’s. Aye, get better soon Carpenter you are missed in the PAX.

YHC brought a little Phoenix back to RVA. While posting last Wednesday, YHC learned some new exceries to share with the PAX. The partner push and pull seemed to be a success so hopefully some more will work out in the future.

Although the mumble chatter was pretty low must of the workout the PAX did help example to Emoji while Deadpool wouldn’t be a great move for the kids.

According to Phineas and Ferb, there are 104 days of summer.  What a better way to spend the summer than challenging yourself to visit all 24 F3 RVA AOs.  Although procrastinators can wait as late as August 6 to start, it would be best to spread this challenge out over the entire summer.  Once you complete the tour, you will have done the following:

    • 14 bootcamps
    • 7 runs including a trail run and evening run
    • 2 Kettle Bell workouts
    • 1 bike ride

Don’t let not having a kettle bell or bike prevent you from participating in this challenge.  Borrow them if necessary.

The challenge starts starts on Saturday, May 26 and ends on Labor Day.

  • Big Blue Ain’t Got Nothing on Pick 2

6 Davillians did let some late night thunderstorms keep them from enjoying Day 2 of Spit DaVille takeover week. YHC and Opus arrived early, Emoji and Helix short there after, Pick 2 arrived in a bus (more on that later), and the one minute warning was given as always when Phonics pulled in.

    MOLESKIN

YHC had a long day at work yesterday and wasn’t completely sure the plan this morning. When the PAX ended up being even he knew today would be a partner day.

Opus, Emoji, and YHC all arrived before 5:25 and enjoy some pre workout mumble chatter. All of a sudden a large 15 passenger bus pulls into the parking lot. YHC first thoughts were “That has to be the largest clown car ever”! But then after reading the side of the business said Mechanicsville Church of Christ, YHC remembered that Pick 2 was without his truck for this week. Pick 2 give us knew meaning to driving your company car to the AO.

YHC enjoyed watching Opus and Helix giving their best Johnsonville impressions during the Hillbillies. Also Opus seem gave a great impression of what a Dying Cockroach should look like after completing that exercise.

Mumble chatter was pretty low the rest of the way through as the PAX was focus on the task at hand.
