  • Happy 64th, Dad

11 HIMs gathered at the earliest AO in the West End to see YHC had in store on a morning where the thermostat read: 64. This morning was full of numbers near and dear. More on that later.

As the clock hit the top of the hour and the PAX were off into the gloom.

Mosey around the church, 2 burpee buy in at each of the speed bumps

COP for SSHs, Imperial Walkers, DQs, arm circles and 40 LBCs

    all followed by 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15 burpees (19 running total)

mosey to the church wall for a Triple Check

pace car runs to and from the island closest to the bus, other exercises were donkey kicks and Lt Dans

slow mosey to Kubota’s truck for Coupons

    Dora

    • pace car bear crawls and/or lunges to and from the closest PAX vehicle
    • 50 coupon shoulder presses, 100 coupon swings, 200 copper head squats

    On The Line

    • each PAX member grabs a parking spot for some good ol’ lifting
    • pace car has a 4 burpee buy in then moseys to the last exercise, PAX running total 61,YHC did a few extra for 64
    • exercises included (all with coupons): man makers, shoulder presses, copper head squats, swings, flutter kicks, LBCs, tea pots, bench presses, etc

    3 minutes of Mary

hello dollies, APDs, Freddie mercuries, 29 flutter kicks

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out

Please lift up Upchuck as his nephew goes through tough times and his daughter who’s getting her knee checked out for something major.

Grow Ruck this week, see slack for the details.

YHC had to celebrate the best man I’ll ever know, my father, this morning. Today would have been his 64th birthday. Unfortunately, earlier this year, we lost my Dad. He passed suddenly a few weeks before welcoming YHC’s 2.0 to the world. Dad lived his life with every intent to make it past the age of 63, the age his father passed.

The man, who always lived his life by the numbers (an accountant by trade), could never quantify outreach and impact on he had on his family, friends and community. Blessings, new (and unheard) stories of Dad and ways to honor his legacy show up daily; YHC’s favorite being my 2.0 shares his grandfather’s smile. Because my father would never boast about his numbers, YHC will:

    • Countless memories of Fall dictated by football seasons and tailgates, him taking over a dance floor at a wedding, learning as a youngster that cooking/grilling time is measured by beers consumed …for always being there for no matter what life brought
    • 200+ employees and their families – a number he and his business partners served daily. The number he thought about every night before going to bed.
    • 40+ years of marriage to my mother, a partnership that took care of everything for their 3 kids and future grandchildren
    • 29+ years at his final place of employment, a place he and his partners built from the original 12 employees to over 200+ strong. Part of his legacy spearheading an ESOP sale and transition from the partners to the employees a couple years ago.
    • Youngest of 5 siblings, a brotherhood that built YHC’s father into the man he’ll always be: tough as nails, compassionate, a servant leader, YHC’s North Star.

64 will forever be your number, Dad. You wore it on the gridiron. You shot it once on the links. You served nearly 64 trips around the sun as our family’s shepherd. You owned it.

Since January 14th, it’s been my honor it to go serve and own it for the next 64.

Thanks for letting me serve and share today, Fellas.

Here’s to Will Patterson. We love and miss you, Dad.

  • The GTE Ghost Haunts WestHo

Nothing shakes a handsnake like the haunting groans of jorts-sporting ruckers handling huge wood. But by the size of his own tent party it was clear Handshake enjoyed every second of this morning’s SOJ/GTE Ghost Flag takeover. A new record was set as 25 HIM’s descended on First Watch, startling a few locals out of their shavasana meditation and tackling the latest GrowRuck Training regimen, as follows:

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey loop around the parking lot and circle up (more of a rectangle to fit the small space)
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • Variable IC Reps to get the muscles warm top to bottom

    COP #1:

    • Mosey over to the small park field
    • Circle Up with x12 Ruck-bearing SOJ studs alternating position with the ruckless WestHoians
    • RUCK CAROUSEL
    • Round 1 – Pass the rucks clockwise around the circle, each PAX completing an overhead press of the ruck before passing it to their neighbor
    • Round 2 – Sit down and rucks passed around the circle with each PAX completing a Sit&Press before passing the ruck – all encouraged to complete WWII’s while awaiting a ruck
    • Rucks put back on

    COP #2:

    • Mosey to the Church parking lot where our WestHo brothers were introduced to six of the finest logs in the land
    • Form up in groups of 4, each with a log
    • LUMBERJACK KILODORA
    • While stationary 2 partners hammer out 1000 reps, the other 2 partners shoulder carry the log around the parking lot and back to switch and continue reps
    • x100 Mericans
    • x200 Jump Squats
    • x300 Oblique LBC’s
    • x400 SSH’s

    COP #3:

    • Line up logs spaced out along center line
    • TRIPLE CHECK (same groups)
    • P1 – Standing Lunges
    • P2 – Monkey Humpers
    • P3 – Bear Crawl pushing log across narrow space and back
    • This did not go as planned with the logs rolling too quickly on the pavement and nobody bear crawling
    • Return logs to trailer

    COP #4:

    • Mosey over to the church’s large brick patio and circle up in Plank
    • Drop to 6” and back up for declaration of each of these – F3 Mission, Credo, 5 Core Principles
    • Remain in plank for 1:4 Escalator with shoulder taps and mericans – made it up to 4:16 before the Q called quits (50 pounds in the ruck makes these hard and it you can’t Q it, don’t do it!)
    • 1min to Stretch it all out

    COT:

    • Counterama # 25
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

    #GTE47 💪 !!WHUA WHUA!! 🔥

NMS:  Way to go fellas! Many thanks to the First Watch gang being good sports for the Takeover (tip of the cap to our Regional 1st F Q @EFHutton for posting the idea/challenge this month), and thanks to @Handshake giving up his Q. Also TClaps to the SOJ/GTE boys for showing up in numbers and putting out as always. There were hopeful doubts from @Kubota early on that SOJ wouldn’t have enough number to do the takeover, but there was never a doubt in YHC’s mind. In fact, we had a few guys who had originally HC’d unable to come last minute. YHC enjoyed bringing a little GTE training to the West End so more folks could enjoy a taste of what we’ve been doing to prepare for GrowRuck next weekend. Thank you ALL for your support! 💪🔥 Yours, DTH

    Announcements (SEE SLACK!)

  • Where are the blocks hidden, Kubota?

Seven FW Regulars assembled in the FW parking lot wondering what YHC had in store.

    “Where are the blocks hidden?”

“Why do we need headlamps if your ankle hurts, Kubota?”

    “Does your ankle really hurt?”

“Why do you look like a fat Prince Harry?”

    0500, let mosey!

To the smallish, triangularish park for COP:

DMH, DQ’s, Heli’s, Ukr. Soldier’s, Imp. Walkers, Merkins, Scorp. Kicks, Inv. Scorp. Kicks

Mosey to the bottom of one of EF Hutton’s hills and Plankarama

“Where are the blocks hidden, Kubota?”

Partner up for several trips up and down the hill. Partners switch running the hill and doing AMRAP exercises which included: WW2’s, Reverse Crunches, APD’s, LBC’s, Hello Dollies, Rosalitas, Cross Leg Lifts (L) and (R), Scrunchy Crunchy Frogs, Flutter Kick’s, American Hammers and V-ups.

    “Where are the blocks hidden?”

Mosey to the top of the hill and keeping same partners work your way back down the hill. Partner 1 bear crawls while partner 2 does 5 HR Merkins. Catch up to partner and switch.

Back up the hill, same format with Lunges and 10 SSH’s. Switching as you go.

Back down the hill, same format with Crab Walk and 3 Burpees. Switching as you go.

    “Where are the blocks?”

Mosey back to the VSF completing a travelling Lindsey of LBC’s and Squats.

    “There are no blocks”

    Time!

Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out.

Solid group of WestHoegeans this morning (with one SOJ/WestHoe dual citizen). Tales of Spring break excitement, kitchen counters, home projects that include the M, hardwood floors, extra visitors, pool cleanliness and other random stories that can only be understood at FW, were told this morning. Handshake woke up 40 minutes before Broga started and was still late. Not sure what was occupying his time…

Thanks for putting up with me and the sore ankle this morning. I think we worked our abs some.

    Have a great day!

    Kubota

  • The defining characteristics of an F3 workout are that it takes place outdoors, almost always at an unpleasantly early hour; that it is led by one of the participants (not a paid fitness instructor); and that it is physically challenging while being inclusive of all men who show up for the workout.

0430 BROGA- In Anglo-Saxon Baby Names the meaning of the name Broga is: Terror. Last Call, Bacon Bits, Kuboto, Lock Jaw, Señor Frog, EF Hutton, Honey Do. Last Call’s BROGA instructions would make lots of Yogi’s envious I’m sure..

    Well one or two maybe….

0500- Eight Leaders worked on their pollen tolerances in an effort to better themselves in being leaders of men.

Starting in the parking lot we counted off with a task of remembering his or her number. 1- Burpee.

Mosey around the church paying respect to each speed bump.

COP Introductions & warm up in front of church. Each man that remembered his number was given the opportunity to lead a warm up exercise.

Mosey around church, paying attention to speed bumps, to back parking lot for some four corner fun & instruction in leadership.

Each man with a number was given the opportunity to lead the PAX in an evolution around the four corners with an exercise of his choosing.

Mosey around the church for 5- burpees at front of church.

Mosey to parking lot for some would be marry APD’s.

Prayer Request- Ronnie’s long time friend (Robert McCormick) age 32 from Baltimore Maryland left to meet our God around the time of the bridge collapse.

Let’s keep Robert in our thoughts and prayers. He sounded like a very remarkable man.

    No announcements at this time.

Señor Frog took us out in a group acknowledgment of thankfulness.

Hutton seemed very thankful this morning….

  • Partner up in pairs for Triple Check?

Seven stay-in town Spring breakers made it out to FW to get beatdown in before the rain started. After a brief discussion of whether Oyster’s appearance would cause an accidental SOJ takeover from YHC we got after it. According to the early morning biker who wiped out admiring Senor Frog’s Mountain Climber form we did:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, LBCs, Scorpion Kicks (both correct and incorrect)

Mosey to back of church: Partner up in to Triple check pairs. Derkins, Freddy Mercurys, run to bus and back. Few rounds of lunge, bear crawl, HRMs, & other stuff.

Mosey to covered section for Dora 123: 100 HRMs, 200 Mtn Climbers, 300 LBCs. Mosey back to parking lot. Lunge, WWIIs, & sprint over to Henrico’s smallest park: 3 (no 2) rounds of Plerkins. Back to flag with 1 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Great to have 7 PAX out with many FW regulars out of town for Spring break. Oyster and Last Call made it 2 of 7 SOJ at the start but Last Call’s Dual region passport was noted. Technically the Q resides currently SOJ so can one region do a takeover from a same region Q? Would this be considered Fratricide? These were things to ponder that could distract the Q from clearly articulating his instructions clearly.

Gomer got some work in before he goes under the knife soon. If you are looking for a new dentist Handshake has a recommendation for you.

  • No rain, some pain and the ghost of Senor Frog

6 Pax dodged the non-rain of First Watch to enjoy a limited cardio coupon workout. After taking a fart sack sabbatical from FW over the last several weeks, he reappeared to Q ahead of his next birthday. Kubota was nice enough to bring coupons so we could look Spring Break vacation worthy.

COP: DQs, helicopters, DMH, merkins, MCs and LBCs. Mosey to covered area which was unnecessary but when a workout plan is made, thou shalt abide by the plan.

Triple check with bench press, curls and run to top end of parking lot. In the middle of the workout, a seventh PAX appeared who looked like Senor Frog. He said a couple words and he was told to get a coupon. Such PAX member vanished for the rest of the workout. Very spooky. Spooky stuff happens during Holy Week.

At the same location, we did a new Triple check with coupon flutters, squats and run to Forest Ave. and back. After completion, I asked my timekeeper Hutton for the time (I could not find my watch – stinks getting old) I realized there was enough time to return coupons and do stationary 11s consisting of dips and derkins (off the guardrail at home base). Handshake signaled he was done with a burst from his tailpipe. Mosey to home base.

Finished with American hammers, heels to heaven and some stretching.

Prayers for Handshake’s M’s second cousin who is getting treated for bone cancer and for my father n’ law who found out he has stage 4 liver cancer. Congrats for Bodos for his interview on the radio (did not know his last name was pronounced Widamer). Safe travels for all those going somewhere for Spring Break. Happy Easter to all! It was good to be back.

  • Senor Frog Dances Funny

6 exquisite gentlemen linked up at 5 to conduct 45 minutes of exercises in the latest edition of First Watch, F3RVA’s earliest workout. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to Ronnie’s Girl in her orange Miata, the following might have happened:

Mosey to the COP by heading west, nope, east around the parking lot. Circle up on the backside of the lot.

    SSHs x51 (4 count)
    Dead Man Hang
    Downward Dog
Right leg high, left leg high
    Pigeon R/L
    HRMs x10
    LBCs x15
    Flutter Kicks x10
    Frederick Mercury x10

Mosey to the truck and grab a block. Slow mosey to the Triangle.

Partner up. Dora 100, 150, 200. Each man does 50 merkins, then together do 150 4-count flutter kicks and 200 4-count SSHs. Runner’s Choice: either run to the traffic light (without the block) or to the 25 MPH sign (when carrying the block).

Slow mosey to South Westham, then pick up the pace, cross River Road, and circle up on the grass next to the “Westham” tombstone.

Triple Check. One man does block thrusters. One man does presses. Runner has 3 choices: Run to the first cut in the road with the block. Or, run to the second cut in the road without the block. Or, run to the second cut in the road with the block (this option counts as two of the runner’s three rounds).

Mosey BTTVSF. 30 seconds of Rosalita’s.

Numbers, names, and Kubota took us out.

NMS: light on the mumble chatter today. YHC could make out only a few things.

“More 4 count SSHs, please, Mr. Q.”

And, “f-ing, m-th$r f-in 4-count SSHs, Mr. F-in’ Q.” YHC didn’t quite get the full transcript, but is sure there was more mumble chatter.

Thanks for letting me lead, fellas. We’ll go a smidge lighter on the SSHs in the Dora. Way to push.

Announcements: nada. Prayer Requests: YHC had one for his family.

  • Any Day Now Clark

9 Tuckahoe Natives and 2 Traveling Regulars made up a merry band of 11 sleep deprived titans of the morn in effort to make the world a better place. All problems were quickly solved and then forgotten but here is what will go down in chronicles of history.

Timer arrived so short mosey around the church parking lot and back up to the brickyard for introductions and disclaimers. Warmups included DQ’s, Helis, Jazzercise (with toe taps), Dead Man Hang, Merkins, LBC’s, Dying Cockroaches, Suzanne Summers and APDs.

Mosey back to church parking lot for a variety of triple checks. Round 1: Timer runs to vans and returns to find partners performing Curbside Merkins and WWII’s. Round 2: Same timer with Air Press Wall Sits and Heels to Heaven.

Short Wosey to the VIP Church parking area to allow Kubota to hear the answer to his question to Swirly followed by 11’s . Donkey Kicks and Merkins. Bear Crawl between, lunge back.

Return Mosey to brickyard for Mankillers that turned into 5 minutes of Mary (core concentration) followed by brief Broga session.

Numbers, Names, Announcements (See Slack), Ronnie took us out.

NMS: After weeks of traveling off campus it was YHC intent to remain close to home. Good mumble chatter throughout. Good to see the return of Bacon Bits, Swirly and Jack Sparrow for the 2nd week. Also nice to have Billy Surf branch out to other Tuckahoe AO’s. Great job by Ronnie taking us out with meaningful words after being put on the spot. Great work today fellas. Broga season will soon be upon us. Enjoy the slumber while you can.

  • Open Q sheet at First Watch???

10 gathered to include Honeydo in his Uncle Buck mobile for this weeks First Watch. Surprisingly at 6:30 on Tuesday there was no Q, so YHC jumped in and this is what transpired:

Mosey around the parking lot and over to the tip of the triangle for a COP of various exercises to include the newest hawtest exercise, the Pencil Roll.

Mosey down the hill of S Ridge to Overlook and let the 6 catch up. Mosey the rest of the way down the hill. Grab 2 partners for a Triple Check. P1 runs up to Overlook, P2 Alabama Prom Dates, P3 Squats. YHC was in the first group and quickly realized Overlook was really far away so YHC called and audible to turn around when people saw the sign on the left side of the road about 2/3rds of the way to Overlook. There wasn’t a single headlight in the group so people turned at various points.

Grab a single partner and do (2) rounds of 20 PLTs.

Keep the same partner and exercises were completed to make the way up the hill. R1 P1 does 20 Merkins while P2 Bear Crawls up the hill and then P1 runs to catch P2, switch. R2 P1 does 40 LBC’s while P2 Lunges up the hill and then P1 runs to catch P2, switch. R3 P1 does 10 downhill Burpess and P2 Bernies up the hill and then P1 runs to catch P2, switch.

Indigenous Peoples run the rest of the way up S Ridge to the Parking Lot.

Curb Crawl (Sans Curb), Bear Crawl to parking spot 1 and do 1 Merkin, then Bear Crawl to parking spot 2 and 2 do Merkins, keep going up to 10 Merkins.

1 minute of stretching to reach the time.

Announcements: March Streaking Challenge. Grow Ruck in May, Senor Frog 1 year Q on Monday at Hoedown

    Prayer Requests – none

NMS – Not too much Mumble Chatter this morning, or at least YHC wasn’t participating. YHC had nothing planned and was trying to figure out the next step in the midst of the current step. Hopefully it was a good workout by all. Welcome back to Jack Sparrow.

  • National Inconvenience Yourself Day – 2024

A Lucky 7 hit the streets, fields and driveways of First Watch in order to honor NIYD. As the clock struck 0500, the celebration began. Mosey almost one loop of the parking lot to warm up before circling up for:

Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    NMS:

We always pray about putting others first and doing good deeds for others, but did you know that there is a special holiday every 4th Wednesday of February called National Inconvenience Yourself Day?? This means to get out of your comfort zone and to do something for someone else that will help that other person. It could also mean other things, like running down River Rd at 0500. Anyway, tie this in with the Golden Rule and your life and others’ lives will be better off.

Happy last real day of February to the PAX and enjoy the extra day of the year tomorrow. Find something memorable to do on Leap Day 2024!

Too bad whoever made the image above doesn’t know how to spell.

Way to work this morning, all! Have a great rest of the day and SYITG!
