River Road & Ridge

  • Smack it up, Flip it, Rub it down

A Sensational Six found the finest prime, manicured real estate in Tuckahoe to enjoy a leisurely beatdown that was rehearsed and played out to perfection. Here is how things went down.

Mosey to Henrico’s smallest park to the lush and pristine turf located on the south end of the park. Salutations and disclaimers were properly detailed with a warm up that included SSH’s, Helis, Jazzercise, Dead Man Hang, Michael Phelps, LBC’s and some light broga. All seemed warm and ready, no need to wander far.

Partner up for a Dora. Timer runs down to the base of Culpepper and returns. 100 merkins, 200 squats, 300 LBC’s.

Triple Check Time. Timer skips a portion of Westham Parkway up to River, running the remainder. Exercises included WWII’s & Pickle Pounders (modify to Monkey Humpers if desired).

Brocode 7’s. Jump Squats and Carolina Dry Docks. Lunge up a portion of Ridge towards River, Bernie Back.

BTTVF for a quick stretch session. Numbers, Names, Announcements and Prayers. YHC took us out.

Events: Deliverance Q next week at FW. Kubota leads the armada across the river to enjoy a romantic sunrise. Bring your own dinghy. 4th of July Convergence at Grid Iron. If you show up on the 5th, you missed it.

NMS: With Deliverance postponed a week due to water levels, Q sheet was open so YHC took advantage to control a leisurely beatdown staying close to home but avoiding the church parking lot. Park was plush and enjoyed by many. Finest Dog park in Tuckahoe. Mumble Chatter was on point as expected. Variety of topics including sleep patterns, travel adventures and a possible sighting of Handshakes towel mistress. Well done fellas. Thank you for the opportunity to lead.

  • Enthusiastic 4+3

6 gentlemen emerged from the gloom to join YHC for some First Watch fun. 3 were on the IR/walking/rucking team. The remaining 4 enthusiastically moseyed on.

    COP:

SSH, Ukrainian soldiers, arm circles, helicopters, merkins, and LBCs in the triangle.

Mosey to the UR practice field. Line up on the end line and do 3 sets of 5 reps of exercises. The PAX’s enthusiasm was palpable when burpees were called out, followed by jump squats, and LBCs.

Next – triple check with four – flutters, monkey humpers, and run to the end of field. The energy with this crew was electric.

Mosey around to the goal post for a quick pull up (no takers joined YHC), then we found a nice bench for 3 sets of dips and incline merkins.

The attempted shot put was scrapped and we moseyed back to the flag (with EF Hutton catching a sprinkler stream right in the face). A quick ring of fire with American hammers, then we caught up to the walkers and brought them home.

Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out.

    NMS:

Pure joy, energy, and downright love for working out was felt throughout the workout.

    SYITG!

A little ground and pound for the First Watch team today as we processed the romantic possibilities of a 2 bedroom condo in Hoover, AL.  1-800 peeled off to visit the taint, which seemed to be ready to accommodate only 1 visitor today.  As always, mumble-chatter was next-level for this AO.

God is good all of the time!

  • Squishy Back Noises

Seven men of questionable judgment posted forth in The Gloom to experience the pre-dawn mist that is First Watch. Temperatures remained 70 and sunny. According to Handshake’s high school sex crush, the following might have happened:

COP: mosey to the corner of Westam, South Ridge, and Cameron…50 SSHs, Dead Man Hang, downward dog, left leg high, right leg high, 10 hand-release merkins…

…mosey to the corner of South Ridge and Country Squire (coincidentally, Country Squire was Handshake’s nickname at VMI, and it’s inscribed on his travel sized Confederate Flag, handy for trips to foreign destinations, such as West Point, NY, USA). Semper paratus. YHC digresses… exercises included monkey humpers, squats, WWIIs.

…Mosey to South Ridge and Ross. Exercises included more hand release merkins, American Civil Wars (heels to Heaven plus a sit-up), and LBCs.

…Mosey to South Ridge and Overlook…more exercises, including merkins, Hello Dolly’s, and some other stuff.

…Mosey to the yellow sign most of the way down South Ridge for some other exercises…

…Mosey to the first of 6 signs at The Bottom of South Ridge (and emerge from the fog)…

    Partner up for Partner Suicides.

Round 1: merkins and run to the first sign.

Round 1: WWIIs and run to the second sign.

Round 1: LBCs and run to the third sign.

Round 1: Monkey Humpers and run to the fourth sign.

Round 5: SSHs and run to the fifth sign.

    Back up the hill…

…stopping at the sign (10 HRMs), the first street (10 HRMs and 20 WWIIs), the second street (10 HRMs, 20 SSHs, and 30 LBCs), and the fourth street (10 HRMs, 20 SSHs, 30 American Civil Wars, 40 LBCs).

    BTTVSF.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

Prayers for Charlotte, Fudd’s sister, and about 3 groups YHC didn’t catch.

Announcements: need a Q for Breaking Bread this weekend. If you have not done this, you should. This is F3RVA’s volunteer event…it has been for 9 years…YHC encourages you to sign up.

Update your emergency contact information on Slack.

NMS: Coffeeteria a good time as always. Some VMI stories from the 1980s sometimes sound like they could have been VMI stories from the 1880s.

  • Dynamite Drop In Monte with a little Respect!

0430….Recon to the area with some PAX already parked=Broga!

Kubota was parked checking emails and we caught up while Westhoe arrived in dawn’s early light. GP assisted with time keeping. YHC owns no Garmin!

0500 (or there about)….time to mosey around the church to COT= 50 SSH, Dead Man Hang, L leg over R leg dead man hang, R leg over L leg dead man hand, 18 Copperhead Squat, on your 6, 6 inches and hold, 18 LBC, and 10 Merkins. Mosey to the back of church.

4 corners- 50 SSH, 100 LBC, 150 Squats, 200 Monkey Humpers. Mumblechatter was high and by the time PAX hit 200 Monkey Humpers, audible was called, and 200 Arm Circles. YHC has always thought that high mumblechatter means PAX should run more. Less talking.

Mosey down the Taint aka Ridge Road S. Running….and then waiting for the 6…PAX planked with 10 Merkins performed. Mosey to bottom of Ridge, plank and hold 6 inches. Time to run back up Ridge. Mumblechatter was great and half way up..audible and PLT, 50 per PAX member.

Circle up in the parking lot with 1 minute left…..merkins AYG!!

2000 post for Handshake! Fantastic job brother!

EF Hutton has posted to First Watch 28 weeks in a row!

Mumblechatter was great and YHC obviously misses the connection with Ronnie and various other continual stories.

Honeydo said something about our wives and I cannot remember exact words….but….it was funny.

Thank you to fellow brothers who posted this morning for YHC and the ability to say, “Respect.”

I truly appreciate the brotherhood, friendship, and workouts with you men.

    Loud and Proud,

    Flatline

  • Mysterious Third Floor

The ideal prime number of 9 enjoyed the pristine conditions of the FW gloom. The anxious Pax awaited for others to join, but no takers toastaly arrived. Here is how things went down.

Mosey to Henricos smallest park for introductions and instructions. Warm ups, all in conversation, included DQ’s, helis, jazzercise (with toe taps), dead man hang, imperial walkers, squats, Ukrainian soldiers followed up with some additional helis. All seemed loose so we mosey on.

Stop at Country Squire for mailbox roulette. 5 squats for mailboxes on the right, 5 merkins for those on the left brocode style. FW clubhouse opportunity coming soon. After reeling in Wojo and Froggy from their gazellest speed, we halted at Ridge.

Lindsay was called with 30 LBC’s/10 dry docks. Stop 2 additional times with numbers modified accordingly, ending up at Overlook. Mosey up a portion of Overlook for Triple Check alley.

Triple Check 1 – Timer runs to the cul de sac. Jump Squats and WWII’s.

Triple Check 2 – Timer skips to the dumpster. Mountain CLimbers and Lt. Dans.

Mosey back down to Ridge for another Lindsay BTTVF. APD’s and Flutters. Numbers need not matter due to vehicular traffic, brocode style with various stops at intersections.

Numbers, Names, Prayers, Announcements. Kubota took us out.

Prayers for Charlotte and her family. Be nice to others.

Memorial Day Convergence at Dogpile 7 am.

NMS: Great morning and mumble chatter. Ronnie certainly deserves oversharing award following his adventures in Austin. Recommendations for great karaoke bar with Joker inspired DJ and a triple level western themed club with various mountable amusements. Jokes continued throughout the beatdown. YHC had more running planned with the Highland Loop but good stories trumped this plan for a more brocode style beatdown. Good time with great laughs throughout the morning was just what was needed. Incredible coffee followed with Hutton providing the dirty looks for single user encamping a 6 seater table. Well done fellas. Thank you for the opportunity to lead.

    MOLESKIN

Backblast title has nothing to do with anything in the workout, but YHC somehow got on the topic of wrasslin at coffee and was whisked away to the good ol’ days when we ran the high school halls telling everyone to “Suck It” with a crisp crotch chop.  Also showed the boys my 4th grade class photo rocking my favorite Bushwhackers t-shirt.  Don’t ask about my Koko B. Ware t-shirt, still hurts.  Lastly of note, Wojo has partied with the Nature Boy and lived to tell the tale.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Memorial Day Convergence – details to follow

YHC took us out. Prayers for the PAX. 2F at Starbucks.

NMS – 9 years ago today YHC started F3 and today is also the day YHC can get free coffee at McDs, and discounts at the finest retailers, except Starbucks apparently. As we assembled from our vantage, it seemed like Horneydo drove into the bush when he arrived, which the pax thought was a natural place for our favorite Ginger Redwood to be.

Mumble chatter throughout was on par, spilling into 2F, including a story about a FL based mother daughter dancing team and other local highlights for which one PAX downplayed eagerly taking notes. The value of higher education was discussed. Finally, we regaled in an interesting solution to Social Security insolvency as well as happy foretellings for our future.

Cannot express enough gratitude to the PAX that push each other. Iron Sharpens Iron.

    Get some!

  • Death and Taxes

Ten taxpayers came out to pay their due the F3 way:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Helicopeters, Merkins, LBCs, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey down S Ridge.

Halfway down we start making our way back up the tax brackets, each bracket we went back down to start a the bottom and work through each bracket

    10% Bracket: 10 Merkins

    12% Bracket: 12 Heels 2 Heaven

    22% Bracket: 22 Jump Squats

    24: 24 Carolina Dry Docks

    32: 32 LBCs

    35: 35 Mountain Climbers (2count)

    37: 37 Burpees

Time had to be called during the burpees, most were halfway through.

NMS: Solid work from the PAX taking on all the ups and downs on Ridge this morning. We had the timing almost right as we started on the most painful tax bracket. YHC had some additional block work planned but the truck wouldn’t start this morning, so we will save that for next year. Cause we will do this again next year since the only 2 things in life that are certain.
