  • Unexpected Block Party

10 men gathered for a rare Handshake First Watch Q. It was also a rarer sighting of Mr. Hollands famous “Sisyphus”

    Speedy COP

Start at the top of the triangle and run down to the first stop, 30 HRM’s run back to the top

Run further to the second stop for 40 two-count Shoulder Taps and back to the top

Run further to the third stop for 50 uphill WWI’s and back to the stop

Run further for 60 Jump Squats and back to the stop

Run further and grab the hidden coupons and back to the top

Unfortunately time didn’t permit us to back it all the way to the bottom, but we were very close.

    Announcements – none

Prayer Requests – Upchucks family and his 26 cousins.

NMS – not much mumble chatter out of the Q today, YHC was tired and was trying to keep focused/motivated to get the workout completed in the narrow time window. YHC knows running past the 45 minute clock is faux pas. YHC was most excited that none of the Pax saw or expected the Microblocks to be hidden in plain slight, let along the perfect number of blocks. YHC was also glad the blocks were at the last stop, not the third stop as originally planned.

Have a great day, everyone. Thanks again for Corned Beef for making the trip to FW!

  • Poor Attempt to Silence the Mumble Chatter

Nine Legends of the Morn rose before most to take on the cooler temps at RVA’s earliest social club. 5 am hour struck so let us begin.

Mosey to the front of the church across the grassy knoll for disclaimers and introductions. Warm ups included speedy SSH’s, DQ’s, Dead Man Hang, Cherry Pickers, Freddies, LBC’s, Merkins and Pickle Pounders. Quick taste of Broga was mixed in to work out the groin area.

Short Mosey to the rear parking lot to begin 4 corners, lady of the evening. 10 Merkins, 20 WWII’s, 30 Squats, 40 Monkey Humpers using the entire parking lot.

Mosey to the steps for triple check. LBC’s, Balls to the Wall, Runner runs the middle loop.

Wosey to the side for 11’s. Donkey Kicks, bear crawl to the opposite side for Shoulder Taps (2 count), Lunge back.

BTTVF for 5 squats. Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers.

Announcements: October is open for Breaking Bread. T-Claps to Bone Thugs and Fudd for stepping up this weekend. See Slack for all the other Happenings.

NMS: YHC had intentions on heading down to the plush fields this morning but staying dry was the much more pleasant option. Mumble chatter is always strong at FW especially with Ronnie’s return. Good to see 1-800 pop his FW cherry. Coffee was had by some afterwards, only 1 cup though.

Great works gents. Thank you for the always showing up and starting hump day right.

  • SOJ Takeover Sort of

A former SOJ Q and several SOJ regulars made this almost a SOJ Takeover of FW. This is what happened according to passers-by who also don’t sleep:

Avoid getting run over by Fudd or Handshake, the 0530, time to mosey across River Road and back around the church backlot and circle up for COP, including jazzercisers with a Hillbilly hop just to make those who journeyed across the river feel welcome.

    THANG – following COP:

11s – Donkey Kicks on the dumpster wall, run to steps and WWIIs

    recovery lap

COP #2 (The Interlude) at the stairs with various exercises including plank-o-rama, merkins, Imperial Squat Walkers and monkey humpers

Mosey back across River Road to Triangle for the No Cheat Triangle – 10 no-cheat merkins, run to next point and 20 2-ct mountain climbers, run the base and 30 2-ct Freddy mercuries and back to the starting point for plank-o-rama and someone got sprayed by a skunk – damn that stunk – mosey to the parking lot for round 2

4 Corners – same as above with the triangle but add 40 1-ct ball dippers in corner 4.

Finish with a Ring of Fire and some flutters, hello dollies, rosalitas and six inches

COT, Numbers, Names and prayers then coffeeteria.

    Announcements:

    • Senor Frog’s VQ at Hoedown on Monday

Good times boys. Thanks to the Rountrey crew (and McGruff) for making the trek.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Man Sandwich

Six – the perfect number for Dora and Triple Check. However, Handshake swooped in and made it seven. At least good for mumble chatter that one.

A little COP and mosey down the hill with some roving Lindsays. Jump Squats and Box Cutters.

Finish on Overlook. Every ending is another beginning, such as a cumulative Red Barchetta down the cup-du-sac.

Finish it off with 11s back to the AO and some quick Mary to harden those abs.

YHC took us out. The BB title refers to a flanking maneuver around Handshake during COP.

    Coffee was great per usual.

  • Summer Tour (Shirts)

7 Summer Tour finishers shared the podium to collect their Tie-Dye Trophies in the latest edition of First Watch. Conditions remained steady at 70 and sunny. According to the lone tomato running on South Ridge, the following might have happened.

    04:59:05 Someone coughs extensively

04:59:30 Someone has an ankle injury

    05:00:00 Let’s mosey

05:00:05 Handshake announces he has a headache

With that, we are off running (walking) with the blocks.

05:10:00 PAX reaches the Smallest Park in Henrico for the COP

    COP

SSHs. Some made it to 40, some to 30, some did their own thing.

Lather, rinse, repeat for lots of stretching. Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, Hill-Billies.

Set your block on the ground in the ready position.

    Do 20 little baby crunches.

Set your block on end on the ground.

    Do 20 flutter kicks.

    05:15:00

Slow mosey (walk/run, depending on health status) to Stop Sign, roughly 30 yards distance.

05:20:00 Arrive at stop sign. 20 curls while waiting for car to pass.

20 minutes of traveling COP. Carry block. Curls, block burpees, overhead presses, squats, etc., etc. Accelerate to your maximum speed.

    05:35:00

Arrive at street sign. Run, with block, down hill, then uphill, then do 20 curls and 5 block burpees. Repeat this, alone, 3 times. Or, walk to the mailbox, and do the same, 3x.

Walk / Run with block back to the virtual shovel flag.

    05:43:00 – Stretching

    05:45:00 – Time

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

Best to those with parents dealing with health challenges, or kids looking at schools, or carrying other burdens.

NMS: Headaches, ankles, lung challenges, etc., abounded today. But, a fresh, gorgeous, sparkling Summer Tour t-shirt cures all. Mine fits great. Thanks, HoneyDo, for your hard work on this. Great to see you today.

  • Lock Blocked by the Tennis Team

Eight early risers convened in the RRCB parking lot for this week’s iteration of First Watch. After questioning Wojo’s mode of transportation and celebrating the news, off we went, some with one headlight.

    The Thang

Traveling COP as we worked toward campus. Various dynamic exercises at various stops until we reached the tennis courts by the greek theatre. Apparently those courts are for the exclusive use of private school attendees, possibly singularly for the elite tennis team. For the record, JMU has the all-time series record against the mens team and won 8 in a row against the ladies team. Nevertheless, after being blocked by the lock, we shifted over to the greek theatre for an altered tribute to the US Open.

Commence 5-set match. 3 separate exercises in 15/30/40 rep sequence, with a run to the top of the theatre and back between sets. Sets were something like:

    • Merkins, mountain climbers, LBCs
    • Shoulder tap merkins, jump squats, WWIIs
    • CDDs, lunges, don’t know
    • Werkins, donkey kicks, flutter kicks
    • Burpees, reverse lunges, american hammers

Run back to the top and work our way BTTVSF with traveling lindsay, starting with squats/lbcs and switching to monkey humpers/heels to heaven.

One final stop at the park for 2 burpee ring of fire with Señor Frog attempting a mutiny.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

    Moleskin

Mumblechatter was intermittent today, due to all the counting, but it was still strong. It was a great day for Ronnie yesterday, let’s celebrate the wins… even if models sometimes get swapped out for librarians.

Best of luck to all our pax that are on the mend, especially prayer requests for Mr Frog as he hopefully gets a diagnosis that helps.

Celebrate the wins everyone! Getting up and working out is a great start! Have a great day all.

  • Mind the Limb

7 of Tuckahoes finest welcomed an SOJ regular to the belly of the beast for an early morning sweatfest. Here is what was witnessed by the Elon Musk satellites passing overhead.

After Handshake completed his preparation, short mosey to the front of the church for introductions and legalese. Warmups included SSH, Helis, Cherry Pickers, Deadman Hang, Copperhead Squats, Jazzercise (with toe taps), Heals to Heaven, Suzanne Summers and Reverse Crunches. All is good in the world.

Mosey around the parking lot to Ridge where we stop at the base of Henricos’ smallest, yet finest park. Beast is the call of the day. 6 reps of 6 exercises stopping at every point of the triangle and 1/2 along the sides. Exercises included HR Merkins, WWII’s, LT. Dans, Carolina Dry Docks, American Hammers and Burpees.

Still time on the clock… let’s hang out here for a Dora. Timer runs to the light, 100 merkins, 200 mountain climbers, 300 LBC’s.

Lunge walk back to the parking lot. Mosey BTTVF for 5 squats. Time. Numbers, Names, Prayers and Announcements. YHC took us out with help from Bodos.

Announcements: Balls are being pickled on Saturday @ Forest Hill Park. See Hitch for deets and time. Bodos is leading a 5k run at his church in September as a fundraiser for Freeman School teacher. Dunk Bacon Bits’ M at Hardywood on Saturday and raise $$ for prostate cancer. Kubotas mother is doing better.

NMS: Always good chatter. Fortunate that Splinter was not in attendance as some low hanging limbs took out a few of the Pax including YHC. Coffeteria afterwards solved all the worlds problems. Always good to see you fellas. Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

  • I have the Q Ronnie.

As 5 of us were waiting to get started at FW, a speedy Mazda comes roaring into the parking lot. Ronnie comes out and asks “Who is able to keep time for me?” After a moment of brief confusion, Fireman Ed, the PAX and their coupons got the ball rolling. COP: DQs, DMH, MCs, ACs and LBCs. Mosey to main church parking lot.

First Exercise: Four corners – 10 Block burpees, 20 squats, 30 rows and 40 2 count flutters (with coupon). Mosey to home base.

Second Exercise: Triple check with bench press, curls and run around the loop. Third set got pretty tough. Mosey to Cameron St.

Third Exercise: Down the street 5 overhead presses per mailbox. Slight confusion with a fella leaving his house early (probably to go to one of those pricey gyms). Back up the street with 7 swings per mailbox. Back to home base.

Tricep exercises – 3 sets – 1st 10 and the 2nd/3rd 15. American coupon hammers (this was a crowd favorite) and closed with DQs and DMH.

Announcements: Get together at Mcarthurs on the North Side 6 p.m. on Monday. See backblast for details. Last time I went to McArthur’s I sang some bad karaoke. That was in the previous century. I had hair on my head back then.

    Pickelball tournament 8/26 at 6 a.m.

Prayers for Fireman Ed who gets results from a medical test next week and for those who are struggling mentally or physically. And next time I will just let Ronnie Q:)

  • Site Q harassment

10 men joined for this weeks iteration of First Watch, 9 for Bootcamp and 1 on IR for a Ruck

Mosey to the Church for a COP of various exercises followed by a Bear Crawl up, over, and around the steps at the entrance to the Church

Mosey back over to the Parking Lot at Last Calls request to get the Microblocks out of ‘lil Blue

Mosey to the Triangle for a Triple Check, P1 runs the Triangle, P2 does Curls for the Girls, P3 Tricep Extensions

Mosey down the hill and set down the blocks, run further down the hill and Partner up. P1 does 10 Squats and runs to catch P2. P2 does Crawl Bear up the Hill.

Mosey back to the blocks and start to make our way back up the hill and get into a Block Indigenous Peoples Run.

    Deposit Blocks, 5 Burpees, Timer.

Announcements – Pickleball Tournament 8/26, get a partner

Prayer Request – Bacon Bits’ M’s Grandfather just passed, prayers for the family. Prayers for Amber Riley’s family. Prayers for the Smith family.

NMS – Kubota has 2 passions in life: traditional American values and Q sheet sign ups. He sent out a couple angry texts this week wanting to the FW Q for this week filled, and YHC answered the call. It was great to have Glow in town visiting from Greensboro.

  • Cool, Comfortable Taint

    Cool, Comfortable Taint

Pictured Above: Bodo’s socks! GO DUKES!

Seven boot campers and two ruckers hit the streets leading down to and back up from the EF Hutton-inspired Taint. Upon completion of Last Call’s early morning Broga session and some friendly chatter around the VSF, this what the PAX completed:

Mosey to the tiny Henrico park for COP:

Dead Man Hang, SSH’s, Helicopters, DQ’s, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, Inverted Scorpion Kicks

Travelling Lindsey toward the Taint. LBC’s and Heels to Heaven.

Almost at the Taint, 2×20 PLT’s each partner.

Arrive at the Taint and pair up or triple up. Three extra, extra large Bodo’s proof blocks await the PAX. Each team grabs a block. One partner walks with block while other partner(s) complete 10 merkins and catch up to switch with partner. Repeato until team is all the way back to the VSF!

Drop blocks off and grab some guard rail for:

11’s (10 Dips on guard rail and run across to other side for 1 WW2’s) Repeato until 1 Dip and 10 WW2’s.

Mosey back to VSF and circle up for Merkin Ring of Fire and 1 minute of Alabama Prom Dates.

    Time!

Numbers, Names, Announcements and Upchuck took us out!

    Announcements:

2nd F/3rd F event at Upchuck’s home tomorrow at 7:30pm. Bring canned goods and canned beer. Look for the big house on Westham Parkway.

Ultimate Frisbee at Gridiron on Saturday

    NMS:

Twas a nice, crisp, cool morning for another Kubota travelling bootcamp and Upchuck/Lockjaw ruck/walk-a-bout. Several past First Watches have teased the EF Hutton-inspired Taint, but this morning we dove right into it. Lots of grumbling about the large blocks and lots of grumbling from one unnamed PAX about YHC’s similar Q’s this week. Most went to coffeeteria afterward with talk of a certain USPS Mail Deliverer, a certain HVAC Repairman, Colonoscopies, Economist Magazine, Bodo’s socks and how the Starbucks Employees can’t figure out how to turn the lights on and their fans off.

Way to work this morning and SYITG!

    Kubota
