River Road & Ridge

  • Door to Door Sales

Half dozen FW regulars included 1 SOJ insomniac traveler embraced the wet but cooler than expected conditions that awaited us at Westhoe. YHC is not a fan of cold rain so off we go looking to avoid the wind and minimize the dampness.

Mosey to Triangle Park tip for introductions and disclaimers. Warmups included all standing exercises in conversation. Good times, good times.

Mosey down Ridge to next intersection to begin a Lindsay. Stops at every intersection down to Westham Station with Carolina Dry Docks & Imperial Walkers as the selected exercises. Headlamps were indeed helpful.

Complete Lindsay at the bottom of Ridge Road/Westham Station interchange. Triple Check was called with timer running to 3rd sign and return. Partners performed merkins and Lt. Dans.

Mosey back up Ridge with some Love Hill (Bearcrawls, lunges & broad jump burpees), Lunges, mosey, Bernie Sanders, mosey, Butkickers, mosey, high knees. Other exercises were called along the way to eat some clock.

Mosey back over to covered entrance at church for 4 minutes of ab work in conversation. LBC’s, APD’s, Freddies, Hello Dollies and some light stretching were all included.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers. YHC took us out.

    • Continued prayers for Charlotte.
    • 11th year convergence. 6.30 am Saturday at Dogpile. Participation Trophies will be distributed. Coffee appreciated if someone wants to lead the collection.
    • SOJ Evening Ruck happening September 26th. See slack

NMS: Not ideal conditions but grateful for those that shook off the drizzle and chill to embrace this gloom and the suck of this mornings beatdown. YHC wanted no part of lying in water so PAX remained dry and always moving. Great mumble chatter including the chance meeting of Handshakes former neighbor who answers doors in only a towel (or did) while Handshake was fundraising. Story could go many ways so let your imagination run wild. Great work this morning fellas. Thank you for joining me in the gloom.

  • First Watch + Burpee Mile-ish = Fun

Spine here. Enjoyed taking the Q at First Watch today (9/10).

9 PAX = Spine, Splinter, Gumbo, Senor Frog, Handshake, EF Hutton, Ronnie, Honeydo, Kubota

Warm Up: Stretching, Arm Circles, Circle Arms, Weed Pickers, Imperial Walkers, Hillbilly Walkers

1: Motivators (or, Man Makers as some of you might know them by). Mumble chatter made me lose count, so extra reps were provided. Plenty of moaning and groaning. Morale high by the end.

2: Burpee Mile = ~1/4 run, then 15 burpees (x4). All the PAX really loved this; didn’t want it to stop.

3: Parking Lot Fun = Cocaine Bears across lot, lunges back (part 1); side shuffles with 10 squats every three parking lines, side shuffle back with 5 merkins at every third line.

4: Mosey back for round of Mary in front of church: 25-count AmHams, 25 WWIs, 25 Pickle Pointers, 20-count Flutters

5: Mosey back to base with 15 fox holes to round things out (fox hole = 1 sit-up + 1 merkin that you roll over into is 1 rep).

COT – Morale was high and everyone was very happy that I finally began as a Q in RVA. More to come.

  • Bonus time on both ends

Nine noble warriors woke up early for some perfect conditions at First Watch. A record 7 were limbered up already from Broga so we got after it:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Scorpion kicks

Over to big parking lot for 4 corners: 10 Burpees, 20 HRMs, 30 Jump Squats, 40 LBCs. Mosey back to YHCs truck to retrieve coupons. Over to HCSP for Dora: 100 Swings, 200 Presses, 300 Squats while partner runs to light & back. Next up everyone’s favorite: Block the Plank, 3 rounds while partner does 10 Merkins.

Finish back in parking lot of Triple check: Block presses, Heels2Hean, run lot & back, finish 30 seconds over time. YHC took us out.

NMS: With 9 PAX ready at 4:58 we got an early start this morning. Tons of laughing and mumblechatter in the COP. There were some groans from the PAX with more coupon time after an hour on Labor Day of the same.

Senor Frog balled out over the weekend at the Biltmore while Ronnie pulled up in his 17th different car since he started F3. Bacon Bits has slimmed down, way to go!

  • S. FROG Turns 51

10 RSVP’d for Señor Frogs pre dawn birthday celebration at the First Watch.

YHC pulled into the parking lot at 4:30 AM to admire the early morning efforts of the Brogi’s frolicking in the gloom. He considering joining them, then thought of the ramifications of demasculation that the Brogi’s endure and thought better of it.

5AM- Mosey to the Chancel for introductions, disclaimers and basic COP warmup.

Mosey to the University of Richmond Amphitheater for some Merkins and Squats.

Mosey back to the missing Flag for a basic COT.

Please keep this mornings prayer requests on your minds and in your hearts today. Our Prayer requests are probably the most important thing we do in the mornings.

Please see Slack for announcement details concerning Labor Day Convergence.

Thank You Attila for praying over us the way you do! You are a gifted speaker.

Thank You for making my predawn Birthday Celebration special!

Thank You for letting me steal your Q Last Call!

Thank You for letting me lead.

  • FW Gets Loungey

7 early risers posted to FW for some Gumbo and it got loungey. Little counting, lot’s of mumblechatter. Topics ranged from F3 photo shoots to binge-worthy Netflix series, to political statements that may come out of the Florida truck tragedy that we all expected must be on Ronnie’s docket. We solved all the world’s problems.

But today was also a celebration of heavenly birthdays for YHC’s dad and, as it turns out, Ronnie’s mom. Happy birthday to two wonderful people we wish were still with us and who, oddly, both passed away far too early in 2012. Phil Goldman would have been 88 today. Miss ya, pops!

0500 and it was time for the earliest bootcamp in town to get moving. Mosey the long way around the church, through the dark alley (paying our burpee, speed bump tolls) around to the front for COP. And that was where things went Loungey.

We did exercises. EF Hutton tried counting for a bit. The rest were in conversation. All was good.

Mosey down to the side wall for some Donkey Kicks, lunges and Merkins – 2 rounds.

Mosey around back for The Suck x2. 6 men doing exercises. 1 man running the parking lot or “running” in the case of Atilla.

Mosey back to the flag through the dark alley (tolls paid).

    4 minutes of Mary

    Numbers, Names, COT

No big announcements or prayers. There is a party coming up for Gypsy and Pinto’s upcoming weddings. I’m told not to each other, but I can’t confirm.

    No More Gumbo For You!

  • Forty Niner

10 early risers emerged from the Gloom to embark on a muggy beatdown Ronnie style.

COP – SSH, LBCs, Arm Circles, Helicopters, Ukrainian soldiers, dead man hang, and merkins.

Then we moseyed to the neighborhood to complete some exercises based on what type of car we found. The pax was quite enthusiastic.

Next, we went back to the parking lot for a Dora with merkins, LBCs, and squats.

A quick cool down with wall sits and dips, and then 4 corners with burpees, merkins, LBCs, and monkey humpers.

Back to the flag for a quick circle of fire.

Numberama, nameorama, and the Q took us out.

Prayers for Last Call’s buddy with a recent cancer diagnosis.

Great work from the PAX, especially with 3 of the 4 doing Broga on the front end.  Freshly paved roads made the wok on one’s six much more comfortable.  Great First Watch send-off to our brothers with vacations next week.

Continued prayers for the immense number of those close to us battling cancer.

God is good all of the time!

    Attila

  • Sunshine and Rainbows

We merely sniffed the Taint today, or maybe it was a combo of 4-day old lobster tails, garbage, and raw sewage.

    Here’s what transpired:

    MOLESKIN

A lot of commentary on Splinter’s new mode of transportation.  Seems like jealousy to YHC.  Someone asked if it took premium gasoline to which Handshake commented, “that thing doesn’t take gas, it runs on sunshine and rainbows.”  That may be true.  Proceed with caution if you find yourself at the intersection of Ross and Culpepper, nasty.  YHC is sure we did 2000 of something today, perhaps we ran that many meters.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    Prayers for Charlotte

  • Triple Triple-Check

9 warriors of the gloom descended upon the earliest AO. Some surprised that Bacons Bits was leading the Q and brief discussion on whether this should be a VQ or VQ#2 since its been some time but the clock struck 5 and we were off.

Short jaunt over to the end of the lot to pick up Hitch and around the lot to the front of the Church for COP. Appreciated the guidance and chatter to keep me in line during COP, as mentioned its been a minute.

COP: various stretches, cherry pickers, side straddle hops, hand release merkins and then some.

Headed back to auxiliary lot to pick up some coupons for the days work.

    The Thang:

Triple check #1 – timer ran to far end and back while others did bench press and overhead press

Triple check #2 – same timer, block swings, and Alabama softball players

Triple check #3 – same timer, squats and curls for the girls

Wrapped up with a couple minutes to spare with flutter kicks and reverse crunches.

YHC appreciates the opportunity to lead this morning. Mumble Chatter was great since there wasn’t much focus on counting! Prayers to all with injuries and illness. Enjoyed the coffee after as always!

  • Back in the Saddle

It has been a few weeks and many excuses but YHC finally returned the friendly confines of First Watch to enjoy the comradery, humor and humidity. No Q on the sheet at 4.54 so lets make it this official. Many regulars and new faces, atleast to me, joined in for a legendary beatdown to some.

Moseyed to the point of the triangle for introductions and disclaimers followed by various exercises some in cadence, others in conversation. Good times were had by most.

Continue down to Country Squire to begin the Lindsay back up to River Road. Exercises included LBC’s and Carolina Dry Docks. Cross over River Road avoiding early morning commuters along the way. Mosey down to Club Vista cut thru for a proper Dora. 100 merkins, 200 squats, 300 LBC’s while timer runs to River and back.

Catch me if you Can. Partner performs 2 burpees and chases after skipper who is heading in the direction of the triangle park. Switch and repeat.

Mosey back to the parking lot for a quick 4 corners. 10 HR merkins, 20 jump squats, 30 2 count flutters, 40 monkey humpers.

BTTVF for an Ab ring of fire. PAX holds canoe while rotating exercises completed by each person. 90 seconds of broga until time was called.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers. YHC took us out.

Prayers for Handshakes M’s niece going thru new treatments. Good luck to Honeydo on todays scheduled backyard inspection.

Summer tour rolls on. Whitesnake leading a crew to the Bridge on Saturday leaving from various points at 5.30 and 6. See slack.

NMS. YHC has been MIA for many weeks for various reasons (100 days of May, beach week, bad back, too hot, too humid, rain, etc.) but glad to be back at FW for what has been too long. Good to meet Maurice for the 1st time along with many of the regular tales. Mumble Chatter is always the highlight and today did not disappoint. Good to get back at it and thank you to the boys for giving me the opportunity to lead. Good work fellas.
