  • Gridiron Runs F3 Dodgeball

A dozen warriors trained all morning to take on any region in a future F3 Dodgeball tournament. After some warmups in front of the school and a triple check of balls to wall toe taps, WWII and a runner, we hit the tennis courts for dodgeball. White Deer brought his balls and we split up into two teams: team DeerAtillaSnakeletville and team BluePintoSkinbuckethouse. Each team also had one of the FNG young Magnano’s, later named Crocket (moving to Miami) and Carl (landscape business).

Rules: you get hit or have your ball caught, you have to run to the far side (past 3 courts) and do 3 burpees. If your team is still alive when you get back, you are in. Ready, set, dodge!

After 15 minutes of a draw, we took a quick break of flutters and the 3 burpee dodgeball rule became 5. That rule change seemed to do the trick.

Team DeerSnakeville took 3 in a row. Carl and Piglet led the way. By the third game, the losing was getting to BluePintoSkin and the bickering across both teams got louder. We had time for one more game and once you were out, you were out. Chum rallied his team and it was soon 3 on 1 with the 1 being White Deer. Could White Deer be the hero? Crocket, in his white blazer and pink t-shirt, soon took White Deer out and BluePintoSkin was the victor.

We collected White Deers balls, moseyed back to the flag, did some LBCs (except Pinto who wanted Merkins), and then did some monkey humpers for the walkers as they made their way back.

And best of all, no injuries!!

So which AO is going to challenge Gridiron to the next Dodgeball contest?

  • Rainy and 60

A wet day but at least it wasn’t really cold. I keep thinking about the saying “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.” I dressed appropriately today. But that didn’t stop me from getting wet.

  • (Honey) Did 1,000

Thirteen gathered for yesterday’s GridIron. Following a few minutes of greetings, we started with a short mosey around the nearby sheds, concession stand, and bleachers before assembling our circle at the usual spot in the parking lot.

    Initial COP with 15 x Full SSHs, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 10 x Don Quixotes, 15 x three-quarters SSHs, 16 x Helicopters, Dead Man Hang, 15 x half SSHs, 10 x Merkins, 10 x Suzanne Somers (each side), 35 x APDs, and finish with 12 x one-quarter SSHs.

Move to the nearby grassy hill adjacent to the parking lot. Line up for 11s. Run downhill for 10 x Carolina Dry Docks, Bear Crawl uphill, and complete one x Prisoner Squat. Run back downhill for nine and continue in the usual fashion until completion of one and 10 of the called exercises. Replace the Bear Crawl with a Bernie halfway through.

Run across the football field to the rectangular parking lot just beyond the other side. Start in the middle of the parking lot, running to each corner to complete 50 of a different exercise, including WWIIs, Reverse Crunches, Jump Squats, and Single Count Side Lunges. Complete exercises in whatever sequence you like, but return to the center after each round and complete five Burpees.

Relocate to the Middle School’s field, circle up, and take a knee for Jack Webb with Arm Circle chaser. Stay together for each round completing one Merkin, four Overhead Presses, and eight Arm Circles. As usual, add a Merkin each round and maintain the same ratio for the other exercises. Break briefly midway through with some short runs and Al Gore.

Mosey off the field, across the parking lot, and back to the football field and line up on the sideline for a few rounds of taking turns running across the field and back.

Return to the parking lot with a few minutes to spare for some stretching. COT and Attila took us out. Most of us hit the usual coffee spot after – Starbucks at Lauderdale and Broad.

While great to see our GridIron regulars, too, we appreciated seeing EF Hutton, Honeydo, and Kubota this morning. Congratulations on 1,000 posts Honeydo.

  • Gridiron’s baby is 48

11 PAX came ready to rock in the far West End. Some were getting ready for the big convergence on May 4th at Dogpile. Some are getting ready for the Whitesnake Bluegrass next week. So much to do! So little time!

COP: The normal Fireman Ed special: DQs, DMHs, merkins, FMs, ACs. Seymour says now I will show up. Head to field.

Cumulative exercises with 10 HRMs, 20 WWIIs, 30 Carolina DDs, 40 jump squats, 50 LBCs. Mosey to side of field.

First round: wheelbarrows across field, bernie back. Round 2: Bear crawl halfway across field run rest of field Bernie back. Round 3: Lunge across field, run back. Round 4: Broad jump burpees halfway across field, run or Bernie back. Mosey to benches.

Elevens with dips and derkins. Mosey to chin up bar.

Elevens with chin ups and 2 count step ups. I admittedly had to move to the jerkin bar because my arms are not super beefy. Mosey to home base.

Triple check with wall sits, elbow plank and run around the parking lot. Finished with American hammers, heels to heaven and DMH.

Grow Ruck with convergence at Dogpile on 5/4. there is an upchuck led workout for those who think sleep is overrated at 6. For other folk, meet at Dogpile before 7. No workout at Gridiron on 5/4. Bluegrass festival on 5/4. Park at James River High school and a shuttle will take you to the beer, I mean bluegrass, See Whitesnake for details on the festival. Prayers for those participating in Grow Ruck. Stay safe.

It is the draft which gives Jets and Commanders fans hope. And then week 1 hits and hope then evaporates. We shall see. By the way, Gridiron’s youngest participant was 48. We are oldish but we are mighty.
