  • GOOOOOOOAL!

World cup is upon us and the Americans are doing great with yet another victory yesterday. For some odd reason I can not get the games on standard FOX so I am having to watch them all on Telemundo.. I need Pigskin to come over and translate for me.. but what I do know is how excited they get when there is a GOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!. with the Argentina and Brazil games , those commentators , we’re on a Tater level high , with all of those goals.

YHC appreciate all the pax showing update to help.me say goodbye to the 40s and prepare for the 50s. In what is becoming a Gridiron tradition for all of us Boneyard Expendables.. we started the Birthday Q with a shot of the Q’s choice.. today was Angel’s Envy Kentucky Bourbon. 7am.. time to mosey..

As mentioned.. it’s World Cup season so we headed to the nicest pitch in all of the Westend… no gravel asphalt for YHC.

Time to get to work. As Handshake said… we are going to Rawdog it. 1st exercise of the CoP.. Da Merkin. No helicopter.. no SSH.. no Arm circles.. and damn sure no scorpion kicks.. continue with warm up.. time for Sally Up/Down using squats as the exercise.. that’s a long damn song.

Next up is 4 Corners.. or what ever you want to call it. 1st round chest exercises 10 each…2nd round Abs, 20 each..3rd round Legs 30 each.. Start at center 5 SSH. run to a corner. Do exercise run back to center. 5 SSH.. go to next corner. For chest we had: standard Merkin, Wide, Diamond, Carolina Dry Dock. Abs we had: WW2, LBCs, American Hammer, Heels to heaven. For legs we had Bomb Squats, Jump Squats, lunges, Sumo Squats.

Circle up.. time for more music: Roxanne. Every time Roxanne is said you do an Irish sit up.. I think this is a made up Tater exercise but we go with it.. it’s a WW2 with and American Hammer at the top of the setup.

We Kill some time with a round of 11s. From the touch line to the midfield using Merkins and WW2s..

Time for last song on the Playlist…Thunderstruck. this sounded better in my head than in reality.. Plank Position for the entire song and when you hear Thunderstruck you do one Merkin.. we all modified at some point but stayed with it.

Time to mosey.. over to the Blue children play area.. another soft mat area.. still no exercises on asphalt or dirt. Lol.

10 minutes of Mary. Called every ab exercise i could think of.. messed the count a few times laughing at the expressions Polly was making.

Finish with a round of more Merkins.

    count us off.. 18 HIMs.

Thank you Mr Roger for taking the pax out while I placed myself on the IR for a few mins..

Announcements: 4th of July convergence at Gridiron. Come get your ass kicked by the Boneyard boys. We may all be RESPECT but that just means we have more practice than most.

    Summer tour still rolling along.

NMS: Another year in the history books. Thank you guys for being there with me.

    SYITG!!

4 Corners with 5 Burpees in the center (25 total) and 50 at each corner (Carolina’s, Calf Raises, Imperial Walkers, Side Straddle Hops). More abs with 50 Partner Leg Tosses (30 and 20). 5 Burpees as we left the field.

  • Escape from the Mud

Fifteen of Short Pump’s finest hit the Gridiron this Saturday for a Snake Q. It started with a mosey to the covered championship pickleball court and we circled up for some warmups. Did some SSH, Copperhead Squats, DQs, Ukranian Soliders, Dead Man Hang, Cherrypickers, LBCs, Flutters, APDs, HRM, Burpees and Merkins. Not necessariliy in that order.

15 meant perfect triple check numbers so thats what we did next. Partner ran around the parking lot or other courts picking up trash or doing one burpee (if no trash is found) while the other two did WW2 or Jump Squats. Some guy ran by and said he was from the “Princeton Chapter” and kept running. Whatevs.

After the 3X check was over, I decided we were warmed up enough for some 11s: started with 10 dips at a local bench and then 1 burpee (groans). And we were off. That was fun.

Time to leave the protection of the roof and so we moseyed to the track. Did a little hill work: bernie up and mosey back and then a couple rounds of bear crawl up and mosey back. Slow mosey across the field and to the next small hill down to the soccer field. Did some Die Hard practice and went up and down that small hill ten times.

Continued towards the school and the runners circled up for 5 burpees and then we all gathered at the benches for 20 dips and 20 bench kicks (or as many as it took to get Code Red Moon to find a place to do a few).

We finally got to the front of the school for a final triple check of the loop and some combination of balls to wall toe taps and Australians with a lot of modifications to milkers and wall sits.

We then moseyed back to the parking lot and circled up for some squats, SSH, getting all our feet and hands confused and then burpees.

Welcome to Messi from PA (where he has met State Farm). Also welcome to Offshore and EF Hutton who were looking for some variety and planning on Dogpile for Monday’s convergence. I kept us out of the mud but not out of the rain. Pax complained less than normal. Enjoy the rainy holiday weekend as see you Monday.

  • Turf Field Audible

Six posted at Grid Iron this AM and after our first exercise of cleaning up the parking of trash (darn kids), and our brief warm up, we voted to stay dry (no actual Grid Iron) and took a mosey to turf fields.

On the way over we paused for some Squats, followed by a Lindsey of Dips and Steps Ups. Then to the field for 2 rounds of 4 corners:10 Merkins each corner, then round two had 20 different exercises at each corner (Carolina Dry Docks, Squats, Lunges, WWIIs).

A ”Tame Beast” (less running with just one direction down the field) came next with 6 stops of:

    • 6 Merkins, 6 Carolina Dry Docks, 6 Side Crunches each side, 6 Squats, 6 Lunges, and finally 6 Burpees.

    Ab Break next:

    • 10 Irish Hammers, 20 WWIIs, 30 Crunches, 40 Side Crunches, 50 2 count American Hammers…then 50 two count Flutter Kicks, 40 Crunchy Frogs, 30 Heals to Heaven, 20 Dolly’s, 10 WWIs

Left field and stopped by benches for: 10 Decline Merkins, 20 Dips, and 30 Incline Merkins. Repeat.

Playground for: 15 Head-Shoulder-Knees, 15 Muhammed Ali’s, 30 Air Presses and Toes, 2 sets of 10 Mike Tysons and 2 sets of 20 Pole Smokers.

    Stretch…and we’re done 🙂

  • Monkey humpers near the Yard Sale

16 Pax regulars including a spirited young new regular went to Short Pump to workout and clean litter from last night’s workouts.

COP: DQs, jazzercise, merkins, arm circles, cherry pickers, freddies. Mosey to football field.

Cumulative go ten yards, do 10 of an exercise. Then 10 and 20 yards 20 exercises, 10, 20 and 30, 10, 20 30 and 40 and lastly 10, 20, 30,40 and 50. Exercises were merkins, WWIIs, 2 count mountain climbers, jump squats and SSHs.

Mosey to other side and repeato with 10 HRMs (50 total), 20 Irish hammers (80 total), 30 Carolina Dry docks (90 total), 40 squats (80 total) and 50 LBCs (50 total). 80 Irish hammers suc%s pretty bad.

Mosey to field next to yard sale. Dora with 50 burpees, 150 American hammers and 250 monkey humpers. I did not look at the yard sale to see if the patrons were admiring our monkey humper form. I did notice a number of more mature folk; that may be what Pigskin would be doing if he didn’t kick so much a#s. Mosey back to home base.

Triple check with balls to the wall, flutter kicks and a run around most of the parking lot. Finished with DQs, a dancing exercise suggested by Fire Chicken and Dead Man Hang.

Closed in prayer for Charlotte, Mary and those looking for work and/or suffering from the drought. I am told that Upchuck may be looking for a replacement for the Bridge. Coffeeteria was good as always. Thanks for letting me lead!

  • People start pollution. People can stop it.

Eleven of the finest men on this side of the Mississippi got an extra hour of sleep, joined Gridiron and did their part to save the world.

5 burpee start in honor of Gomer’s 1000th post. Then after the four ruckers and a late Chum joined, we did it again. A traveling COT eventually made its way to the far end of the track. Back in 1989, when Gomer and I were doing shots of Vodka before going out to fraternity row, we dreamed about doing the biggest four corners known to Gridiron. While his days of running are over, I think the goal was met today.

The running group started at the far end of the track with 50 WW2, then ran to the basketball courts in the back of the school for 50 Merkins, then we ran to the blue playground for 50 Squats and then joined back with the walkers in the newest pickleball lot for 50 SSH. The walkers did the same exercises but their 2nd stop was the front of the school and their 3rd stop was at the football field.

It was at the parking lot that we saw that thanks to the “cool” high school kids who hung out at the courts last night, the parking lot was full of trash. I think I saw a crying Indian somewhere too. Instead of “touch a tree” we did “touch some trash” and did 3 rounds of running to grab trash & throwing it out. Chumbucket found a lovely smelling rice bowl while most of the trash was alcohol related. Rumor is finger prints could reveal Mariner or Joey Chesnutt were there (because they seem cool). We will never know. Either way, good work by the pax to clean up the parking lot.

We then went to the sunny gridiron for a Quarter Pounder. 25 HRM, 50 single count flutters, 75 jump squats, 100 SSH. At some point, Pigskin had to leave to cheer on some family at the 10K.

Shade was needed by YHC so we moved to the front of the school for a triple check with balls to the wall and heals to heaven as the fun parts.

We slow moseyed to the lower football field, did 25 WW2, then 3 rounds of Pigskin-ups with ten merkins at the top of the hill. Running out of time, we went back to the flag for numberama.

Ended up with almost 2.5 miles of distance today! Well done Pax!!

While 4 of us gathered before launch, Tater asked me to predict numbers. I said 11. Him and Pinto took the under. 11 was the final number. As a result of my Nostradamus-like genius, here are some other predictions:

    1. Commanders trade up and get the RB. Trade next years #1 which they think will be #30 but it will be top 10 (again).
    2. CM Punk retains the title at Wreslemania. Turns heal in the process.
    3. The Dow will hit over 50,000 on Monday, drop under by the end of the week and not hit it again until 2027.
    4. The founders of F3 will rename it to F3-AI and the stock will triple.
    5. Tater will Q Gridiron soon and do lots of abs.

    Thanks for letting me lead

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”
Written by English poet and cleric John Donne (1572–1631) during a serious illness.
    Life and Background
    Born: 1572, London, England
    Died: 1631
Raised in a Catholic family at a time when Catholicism was persecuted in England
Studied at Oxford and Cambridge but did not take a degree (due to religious restrictions)
Later converted to Anglicanism and became a priest
Donne’s life had two distinct phases:
Early life: Known for his witty, often sensual love poetry: Example “The Flea”
Later life: Deeply religious, writing sermons and spiritual works: Example “Death Be Not Proud”
