  • Not your birthday

    Burpee beast – broken?

    Not today, Chum. Something else.

    Other stuff. Then coffee.

  • Oh Susanna

6 strong showed up this morning and we celebrated some of the lesser known Jan 13th holidays. And we sang a little bit so you can too.

(To the tune of “Oh Susanna” in honor of Stephen Foster Memorial Day)

Oh, in the F3 bootcamp morning, we gathered with a cheer,
Doing warm-ups and stretches, getting ready for what’s near.
Triple check of Alabama Prom Dates, we were on our way,
Followed by Alabama Ass Kickers and a runner, 5 burpees, hooray!

Spelling BANJO at the corners, a workout quite unique,
10 Burpees, then Alternating shoulder taps, the challenge was to peak.
Never cross dolly’s, plank Jacks, and Outlaws in the mix,
4 corners, 5 times, feeling like a workout fix.

Duck walks for Rubber Ducky Day, up and down we go,
Then celebrating Make Your Dream Come True Day, partners in tow.
Traditional Dora, we pushed ourselves to the brim,
Moseyed back for dips and burpees, the energy within.

For National Sticker Day, a quirky celebration,
20 dips, 10 burpees minus car stickers, our dedication.
Rotating with Bulgarian squats, feeling strong and fit,
Moseyed back to the flag, for Mary, a final bit.

In the F3 bootcamp, we pushed ourselves with glee,
Celebrating days, working out, a community so free.
With burpees, dips, and laughter, we made our spirits soar,
Oh, F3 bootcamp mornings, we’ll be back for more!

  • Frank’s Ball (Kickball) at Gridiron

In Gridiron’s field, ‘neath sky so vast,
A kickball game was held so fast.
Eleven players, faces bold and bright,
Gathered there in the dawning light.

Chum Bucket’s laugh, a jolly sound,
Echoed wide, all around the ground.
Polly, swift, with a limber stride,
Pulled up lame, his hamstring tied.

EF Hutton spoke, and all would hush,
While Handshake’s boot brought a gentle crush.
    Tater argued, loud and long,
His words, like thunder, fierce and strong.

Pigskin’s kick flew like a dart,
Whitesnake moved with a slithering art.
Fireman Ed, with a booming cheer,
    Rallied all who gathered near.

Oyster, quiet, with a pensive gaze,
Lighthouse, bright, through the morning haze.
And Johnsonville, both player and ref,
Made calls so fair, left no one bereft.

Eight innings played in competitive zeal,
Each call and kick, a spinning wheel.
Though Johnsonville was just and true,
    Discontent in rival hearts grew.

For in this game, ‘neath twilight’s dome,
The kickball field was more than home.
It was a place where spirits soared,
Where every run and shout was scored.

    Yet, amidst the playful fray,
    Nature’s hand would gently sway.
    Teaching that beyond each score,
Lies life’s game, with so much more.

Through laughter, strife, and hamstrings torn,
In the field where joy was born,
The kickball game at Gridiron’s end,
Left memories, like true friends’ words, to tend.

  • Skip the frozen tundra of Grid Iron

15 men posted this cold Dec morning for a little bit of cardio, abs, and arms…but we skipped the frozen tundra of Grid Iron for the comfortable turf field.

Started off with one partner doing Lunges across the 120 yard field, while the other partner jogs to the end and back and meets original partner doing lunges. Switch partner and complete until you reach the end. On the way back it was partner Marching Ukrainian Soldiers across the field. Then partner Bear Crawls to end of the field, followed by partner Crawl Bear and Bernie Sanders. Break.

Then 10 Merkins every 10 yards…pause at mid field for 100 abs (4 sets of 25 Crunchy Frogs, WW II, Heals to Heaven, LBCs)…finish the next 50 yards with 10 Merkins every 10 yards. Turn around and complete a Burpee Ladder (1-5, 5-1) and 50 yards of 5 sets of 10 Staggered Arm Merkins…with a pause at midfield for another 100 abs (2 sets of 25 Side Crunches, and 50 American Hammers). Break

To the picnic benches for 3 sets of 20 Step Ups, 20 Dips and 20 Durkins. Then to playground for some Pinto Specials (20 APD, 20 Pickle Pounders), 100 more abs (50 American Hammers, 25 WW I, and 25 Flutters). Break. Circle up, and go to coffee.

  • Trying to get to a 20% Q rate

11 men came out to find very little pickelballing (guess many hibernate for the winter) at Short Pump North. What they found is a compilation of a couple Fireman Ed classics.

COP: DQs, Helicopters, Invisible Jump Rope, Merkins, FMs, ACs. Mosey to bus loop. Tater made sure I did not forget my discs.

Bus Loop: Pacer throws disc and completes hole around temporary construction fencing. Others do the following: HRMs, WWIIs, jump squats, Burpees, pole smokers, SSHs, diamond merkins, heels to heaven, Lt. Dans, Wide grip merkins. Switch when pacer completes. the construction fencing threw me off but we figured it out. After completion we did a little yogging.

Round 2 Bus Loop: Same exercises. Change is that the pacer bear crawls, picks up the disc and completes the shorter hole. No one got a hole in one. Guess we have to stick to our day jobs. mosey to Gridiron field.

Bear crawl across field go halfway then run to end of field and Bernie back. Second round: Wheelbarrow with partner across field. Round 3. Lunge halfway then run to end of field and then Bernie back. Mosey to pavilion.

Elevens with derkins and step ups. Chum appeared to be the fastest. He must practice at home. Mosey to parking lot. Blue Moon had a fascination with my off-rhythm cadence of SSHs so I entertained him for a quick set to the delight of some. Continued with MCs and American hammers. Then we done.

Tuesday 12/12 lunch at Fireman Ed’s, I mean Firehouse Subs in Innsbrook. Also Chum wants to put together what I branded “Grilliron” where we will make breakfast after the Gridiron workout. It may even have an adult beverage if you are so inclined. Details will be forthcoming once a date is determined. Good to see a not as regular “The Handshake”. Also good to see Polly at Coffeeteria; looks like he is healing pretty well.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Basic Math Skills Not a Prerequisite

The ultimate prime number PAX assembled on a wet and warm winter morning (always a savory combo) at the Gridiron.  Here is how it went down.

    • Mosey to the turf field for COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Jazzercize
      • Suzanne Somers
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • Four corners with 5 rounds (10, 15, 20, 25 reps at each corner)
      • HRM
      • WWII sit-ups
      • Squats
      • 2x crab cakes
      • Side crunches, each side
      • 1 rep of each exercise at end to make 71 total
    • 3 rounds of PLTs – 71 total
    • Mosey to the pull-up bars for 5 rounds of:
      • 8 pull-ups
      • 30 second pole sit
    • Mosey to the parking lot for a 3x check
      • Run
      • FM
      • Shoulder taps
    • COT with YHC taking us out

The PAX was asked to figure out why I added 1 extra rep to all of the four corner exercises.  That exercise included performing addition.  That part of the workout had to be quickly abandoned out of fear we might never get the correct answer.  Simple math proved difficult.  The answer – I wanted to get to 71 to honor the most respected member of the PAX, Pigskin, on his birthday week.  YHC will never ask this group to do math again.

Welcome Roundup, a local organic farmer.  Do not be a stranger.  Nice work by Piglet on the headlock.

God is good all of the time!

God is good all of the time!

  • PT Q

The Q is coming off IR, so it was not much cardio…but a lot of abs and arms. (I know, you’re shocked)

Mosey to Grid Iron for 4 rounds:

1st- 100 Merkins (10 every 10 yards), but take a break at the 50 for 100 Abs (4 sets of 25 WWI, WWII, Crunchy, and Flutters). 2nd- Turn around in end zone and march back to original goal line, with 10 Staggered Arm Merkins every 10 yards. Don’t worry, a break at mid field for another 100 Abs (4 sets of Knee Ups, Side Crunches each side, Heals to Heaven, Flutter Kicks). 3rd- Took a break of arms and did 10 squats every 10 yards. But of course we stopped for 100 more abs. 4th- Only 50 yards of Chuck Norris, followed by a break of 100 more abs.

Left the Grid Iron for the bleachers and benches: 2 rounds of 20 Dips, with 20 Bulgarians in between. Then 20 steps ups and 20 Derkins.

Finished at playground for 2 sets of 10 Jerkins on the swings, 100 more abs, and some balancing and stretching

  • 5th time’s not a charm

Ten strong warriors and White Deer came to my 5th Q in a row this week. Pigskin and Lighthouse were at all five and one of them paid for it.

The Pax requests to go straight to coffee started before 7 but the 11 endured the following first:

Warmups of SSH, DQ, Cherry Pickers, Arm circles, LBCs, Candy Corns

Dora to show off to the 2 playing pickleball: 100 merkins, 200 squats, 300 LBCs with partner running to the end of the courts and back

Mosey to the lit soccer fields to then be chased down by a lady in a golf cart telling us we must leave.

Mosey to the frosted football field for a double quarter pounder: 1st time: 25 merkins, 50 reverse crunches, 75 mountain climbers (single count), 100 SSH: bernie back to goal line after doing each exercise at the appropriate yard line. 2nd time: 25 HRM, 50 American Hammers (single count), 75 Bobby Hurleys, 100 Candy Corns (ouch).

Crab walk ten yards, ten WWIIs, repeat to the 50. Bear Crawl ten yards, 5 merkins, repeat to the goal line. Hands nice and cold now.

Burpee ladder back. (this is when the Pax told me that liked me better when I was injured) 1 Burpee at ten yard line, 2 at twenty yard line, all the way to 10 (55 in total).

Ran a lap around the field and then back to the start for 5 minutes of Mary.

Did some Freddies, Flutters and LBCs until the end.

Circled up, did some prayers and then Pigskin wanted more attention and got light headed and needed some help from the Pax. It was a combination of the cold, the tough workout and maybe a smidge of him being 70. He felt better after some water, coffee and banana bread (recommended by 4 out of 5 actors who play a Doctor on TV).

I suspect Pigskin is doing some Balls to Wall at home now for fun.
