  • Cheeseburgers in Paradise

Ten Gridiron regulars, a well rested EF Hutton, and an FNG (thanks to Johnsonville) arrived on a beautiful Saturday morning to welcome me back to Gridiron and then to be surprised I was the Q.

We hit the football field to warm up and started with some SSH and then hit the soft wet ground to do some Suzanne Somers, Freddie Mercuries and Flutter Kicks. Maybe we did more, I can’t remember.

Then in memory of Jimmy Buffet we did a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” (Quarter Pounder). To be clear, a Quarter Pounder was my plan before Hutton informed me that he died yesterday, but now I had a theme. Jog to the 25, do 25 merkins, bernie back to the goal line, jog to the 50 for 50 squats, bernie back, to the 75 for 75 LBCs, bernie back and then to the other goal line for 100 SSH and bernie back. The soccer crew showed up midway to play on the football field and we thought about fighting for our spot but then realized they would all take a dive like Salah from Liverpool and get us in trouble. So we moved to the soccer field next door.

After wondering why the soccer players play on the football field each week, we did another Cheeseburger in Paradise with merkins, jump squats, mountain climbers and SSH.

Still looking for paradise we went to the front of the school and did a triple check of running the loop (“A Trip Around the Sun”), hand release merkins and WWIIs.

After some bad math on my part, we went to the nearby parking lot for a modified 4 corners which Jimmy Buffet fans will call “A Pirate Looks at Forty Burpies”. First set was 15 American Hammers (2 count) at each corner, followed by 5 burpies in the center after each corner. Second set with 20 shoulder taps (2 count modified to 1 count), followed by 5 burpies in the center. 40 burpies total. Johnsonville’s groaning sounded nothing like a Pirate but let’s pretend it did.

We moseyed back to the bleachers to hopefully achieve “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”. We did three sets of 15 dips and 15 (2 count) step ups. I could not detect a change.

With 5 minutes left we circled up and did some stretching. The change in attitude was felt, until I was out of ideas and there was 1 minute left. We ended with 10 burpies.

“Come Monday” we have a Convergence at Dogpile, 7AM. Prayers for Roger Roger and all the other injured working their way back.

Our FNG, Ryan, is now named Swampy. He is right out of college and a baseball player. He did break a sweat but may need a Pigskin Q to learn to not underestimate grown-ups. Also please note that I had to google most of these Jimmy Buffet songs titles. He’s not my favorite musician but I do give him lot of credit for such a long prosperous career and a huge following of fans.

  • They have baskets

I was getting ready to introduce disc golf to the fine far West folks. I went to Costco and retrieved 3 boxes and had them set up for a mini course (hit the box would have been my backblast title). To my astonishment, I found 5 real disc golf baskets set up at the back of Short Pump Middle. Did they set them up for us? Well no boxes necessary. Although not everyone was on time, we had 10 PAX ready to go.

COP: DQs, DMH, Merkins, MCs, LBCs and ACs. Is that Lighthouse and Homer? Mosey to hole 1.

Hole 1: Throw, bear crawl, throw bear crawl until you get in the basket. 3 burpees for each shot.

Hole 2: Throw, lunge, throw, lunge until you get it in the basket. 5 HRMs for each shot.

Hole 3: Throw, throw, bunny hop, throw bunny hop until you get it in the basket. 7 wide grip merkins for each shot.

Hole 4: Throw, throw, polar bear crawl, etc. 5 merkins per shot. Collect discs and mosey to front of school.

Triple check with four exercises: Donkey kicks, derkins, heels to heaven run around loop. Chum shows up after a long run at SOJ. Mosey to bleachers on second field.

Elevens with 2 count steps and diamond merkins (I like merkins). Mosey to home base.

One set of PLTs, Carolina DDs, Freddie Mercuries and DQs/DMHs. Counterama.

Events: Monday get together on Mcarthur road instead of Punisher. See Chum Bucket for details as he is not much of a Slacker. Pickelball tournament on 8/26. Labor Day convergence at Dogpile at 7 a.m. (so late for that group). Ended with prayers. Thanks God for the beautiful morning. It was good to see runners Johnsonville and Gypsy and future runner Blue Moon at coffeeteria.

Fireman Ed (now we have Dalvin Cook – bet we still find a way to su%k).

    • COT with YHC taking us out

Blessed by those with us today.  It was a greatest hits from YHC’s 2 Q’s earlier this week.  The crab walks were painful for those that did Circus on Thursday.  T-claps to our runners who double-dipped and great to have Pigskin’s byproducts with us despite his absence.

God is good all of the time!

  • F2?

Despite the confusion of this not being an Ultimate Frisbee day…18 of us still had a good workout.

Stretching, a little warm up, welcoming 2 F3 members from PA, and then we began with a dozen burpees in parking lot and a mosey to soccer field to begin Arms/Abs/Arms/Arms/Abs/Arms:

Arms- 10 yards, then 5 Hand Release Merkins (5x). Abs- 5 rounds of 20 sets of WWIs, WWIIs, Heals to Heaven, Crunchy Frogs and Ukrainian Hammers. Arms- 10 yards, then 5 Merkins (5x). Arms- 10 yards, then 2 Merkins (5x). Abs- 5 rounds of 20 sets of Flutters, Freddy Mercury, Mercury Freddy, Knee Ups, Ukrainian Hammers. Arms- Bear Crawl 50 yards with 2 Merkins every 10 yards.

Legs with a Dora of 100 Squats, 200 Heal Raises, and 300 Leg Curls

More Arms– 20 Dips and 5 Pull ups for 3 rounds, followed by a mosey and 10 Jerkins (2x) and 20 Dips

Forgot the prayer, but did remember all 18 names. Plus, we did have a little celebration at the end.

God is good all of the time!

  • Chickens, Geese and Other Farm Animals

A dirty dozen seasoned Pax and a FNG were the early risers in the park joining the soccer players, softball practice, and Pickleball enthusiasts.

Off to the nice football field for a disclaimer and welcome. COP commenced and we meandered off the field out of respect to the soccer players assembling.

With the middle school football field “closed”, we went to the soccer field to begin the fun. Oh, I forgot to mention that we have been carrying around an 80# sandbag.

Lining up on the 0 yard zero yard line, the Pax karaoke’d to the other end of the field and back to the 10 yard line. The sandbag made its way down and back too.

10 yard line – 10 HRM; lunge to far end and back to the 20, sandbag makes its way too

20 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers; jog to far end and back to the 30, sandbag makes its way too

30 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers, 30 squats; jog to far end and back to the 40, sandbag makes its way too

40 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers, 30 squats, 40 2-count mountain climbers; jog to far end and back to the 50, sandbag makes its way too

50 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers, 30 squats, 40 2-count mountain climbers, 50 4-count flutter kicks; jog to far end and back to the 60, sandbag makes its way too

60 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers, 30 squats, 40 2-count mountain climbers; jog to far end and back to the 70, sandbag makes its way too

70 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers, 30 squats; jog to far end and back to the 80, sandbag makes its way too

80 yard line – 10 HRM, 20 4-count American Hammers; jog to far end and back to the 90, sandbag makes its way too

10 yard line – 10 HRM; lunge to far end with sandbag

Mosey over to the front of the school for triple check. Partner 1 bear crawls or lunge walks across the two lane roadway and back. Partner 2 performs 100 donkey kicks, 200 monkey bumpers, 300 box cutters.

Chum picks up the sandbag and the Pax lines up behind him. Mosey back to the parking lot with the 6 running to the front to take the bag.

Quick round of Mary and Attila took us out.

We originally landed on “Cheesesteak” as the FNG’s name. Unresolved with the name, YHC reached out to Handshake – a man well versed in bourbon and barbecue (FNG’s hobbies). After a brief consult, we landed on “peg leg”. Handshake can attest to the quality of “Peg Leg Porkers BBQ” in Nashville, where they also make their own bourbon. It is also easier to say quickly while winded doing exercises.

    Welcome Peg Leg!

  • The Heat is On

13 Pax of various ages (what other AO can boast attendance from a teenager and a septuagenarian) descended on the friendly confines of Short Pump North. Lighthouse came in running and warned us of the heat and man he was right.

COP: DQs, DMH, Merkins, MCs, FMs, LBCs.

Mosey with a merkin run. We run together (sort of) and then I call out 10 merkins. We went around to Short Pump Middle and did 40 merkins.

Dora with 100 HRMs, 200 Squats and 300 monkey humpers. Run in a loop in front of the entrance. The monkey humpers got more challenging after the first 100. Mosey to newly paved basketball court (did they do that for us).

Four corners: 10 burpees, 20 squats, 30 2 count mountain climbers and 40 2 count flutter kicks. It was noted that the temp on the asphalt was a bit high. Mosey to tennis court.

Slight audible: A kid was practicing tennis with his mom so the suicides with an exercise was constrained to the first two courts. We still may have scared them. 1st one – 5 Carolina Dry docks then 10 CDDs. 2nd set – diamond merkins, 3rd set – wide grip merkins. Mosey to field next to main Gridiron field.

1st set – partner wheelbarrows run back. 2nd set – bear crawl run back and 3rd set – lunge Bernie back. Mosey to bleachers.

Elevens with derkins and 2 count step ups. I was asked whether my M wanted me to build my arms today. Fair question since we did lots of merkin exercises.

Finished with American Hammers, Freddie Mercuries, Heels to Heaven and stretching.

Convergence this Tuesday at 7 at Dogpile for those that are in town. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thanks for our democracy.
