  • Weatherman Ed

8 mature warriors braved the rain to make it out to Gridiron. For whatever reason, it rains 2/3 of the time that Fireman Ed Q’s at Gridiron (or about 4 times as often as the Jets win). A PAX called me the Weatherman so I made it the title of todays backblast.

After checking to see if White Deer was going to make it (and to Attila’s dismay he did not), the workout went like this: COP: 10 Russian Soldiers, 7 DQs, 10 Helicopters and 10 merkins.

Mosey to the bus loop (one of the very few covered areas in the AO). Pull a deck of cards. Ace of Spades – 15 burpees, other spades – 1 to 13 merkins, hearts – heels to heaven, clubs – Lt. Dans, diamonds – 2 count mountain climbers. It took us awhile to get through this so we split the cards with a yog around the school. There was a lot of pent up excitement for the Ace of Spades (who knew that old people like burpees). After going through the deck, we went on another yog and met back at the bus loop.

Next was a triple check with groups of 2. PAX 1 went around the triangle while PAX 2 did pickle pounders, then flutter kicks and then pole smokers.

Mosey to pavilion near cars. Elevens with derkins and dips.

Finish with American hammers and arm circles.

Closed in prayer. Please sign up for Breaking Bread as there is availability for May and beyond. I believe you can sign up on the Q sheet. Details should be on the website; reach out to Upchuck with questions. I plan to take a shift this summer; feel free to join me.

  • A Deconstructed Muph+

Eleven of the faithful posted in the far west end on a cold Saturday morning. Johnsonville (YHC) was Q for the day.

Without any side straddle hops, and without any kind of normal COP warmup, the Q sent the pax (and himself) on a particular 1 mi route around the school, up Pouncy Tract Road, around pickleball courts and to the pullup bars.

Upon arrival, each member of the pax did a round of 10 pullups and 20 merkins (OYO count and in no particular order). After all completed pullups and merkins, YHC led the pax in 15 F3-count (30 normal count) squats. Rinse and repeat the entire sequence 9 more times for 100 pullups, 200 merkins, and 300 squats in the aggregate.

Mosey a short distance over to the grassy knoll by the old shoolhouse. 5 minutes of burpees. Mosey a short distance to the original pickleball courts. 4 rounds of suicides.

Run the 1 mile route in reverse direction back to the virtual shovel flag.

COT with YHC taking us out. Johnsonville

  • Staying Safe

Three brave and somewhat crazy warriors risked the elements to visit the Gridiron this morning.  Conditions remained safe and here is how it went down as we played the hand dealt us:

Great work by the PAX great to welcome Double D.  God was good today as we remained safe! Tried to make this friendly for the virtual PAX.

  • Heavier than air

A proper dozen posted for Saturday’s GridIron. A few minutes of breeze shooting were followed by an on-time 7 AM kickoff. Mosey from the parking lot into the eastern end zone of the football field for COP with 25 x Side Straddle Hops, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Helicopters, 10 x Suzanne Somers (each side), and Arm Circles (small, forward and reverse, then big, forward and reverse). Followed each exercise with three Burpees.

Split the group in half and moved to opposite sides of the eastern end zone for Four Corners variation. Complete seven Merkins at the first corner, then mosey to the second corner and add, along with more Merkins, seven WWII Sit Ups. Continue to the remaining two corners via jog, adding Squats at the third corner and Imaginary Jump Ropes at the final corner. Complete a second round with 14 reps of each exercise. Final round included 21 reps of each exercise.

Relocate to the school and spread out along the school wall. Complete a Donkey Kick, make a 180 degree jump squat, complete Wall Walk with our hands, and return to the starting position with another spinning jump squat – all of this counted as one rep. Finish 10 reps in round one, 8 in round two, and 6 in round three.

Move to the bus shelter for a Triple Check with one guy completing Pole Smokers, another finishing LBCs, and a third making a lap around the nearby sidewalk triangle. Three rounds, of course.

Mosey back to the football field and spread out along the first seat of the bleachers adjacent the field. Complete 10 Bench Kicks, 10 Dips, and 10 Step Ups (each leg). Round two with 13 of each. Round three with 17 of each.

Stroll across the football field and pause at the center line for five Walmart Burpees. Move closer to the sideline and finish three more.

Oval up in the parking lot for some alternating Elbow Planks and Superman holds. Finish with some stretching. COT and YHC took us out.

  • Qinches

13 able bodied middle aged dudes (maybe upper middle age for several) showed up in the cold morning for a beat down. After being amazed at another high attendance morning, the Fireman Ed’s Q went like this:

COP: Two laps with some jogging, karaoke and Bernie Sanders. Honeydo was a casualty of the severely fast pace of the old folks and took a slight tumble. DQs, 3 punitive burpees, CP, ACs, Fred Mercuries

    Exercise 1: Start with 10 merkins, then 10 merkins, 20 WWIIs, then 10 merkins, 20 WWIIs, 30 jump squats, then 10 merkins, 20 WWIIs, 30 jump squats, 40 2 count mountain climbers, then add in 50 2 count flutters. Finish with 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 of the above assigned exercise.

Mosey to drop off loop for a Tabata style routine with 45 seconds on and 15 seconds off of the following exercises:

Burpees, Heels to heaven, elbow plank, HRMs, LBCs, Plank jack, Carolina DDs, 6 inches (read as Qinches to one person), SSHs, wide grip merkins, APDs, Crab cakes, Suzanne Somers, helix squats. After completing the sets we moseyed around the school to the front.

Next exercise was 10 donkey kicks, then 15 DKs, then 20 DKs, then 25 DKs.

Mosey to parking lot. 20 American hammers, merkin ring of fire, 3 punitive burpees, DQs and CPs, sorry PAx no SSHs:(

Closed in prayer with no announcements (none of us could remember what was going on – the beauty of getting old).

Considering the difficulties that this world, nation and locality are experiencing it is good to have a group that can come together and do something positive. Let’s help someone else this week.

    God bless,

Fireman Ed (Robert Saleh’s older thinner brother).

Continued prayers for our country and for healing and unity.  God is good all of the time!

  • Frosty you know man

Nine posted for the GridIron before last under chilly, but clear skies. COP in the main parking lot with the usual.

Hop the short fence into the nearby softball field for Vicious Circle (thanks F3 Exicon). Pax completes sideways Bear Crawl counter-clockwise around the bases. Last guy in line jogs to the mound for five two-count Mountain Climbers and jogs to the front of the line. Rotate through until all have completed one go. Second round with Lunge Walk around bases and Ball Dippers at the mound.

Cross the fence and head just down the hill from the far end zone of the football field to begin a round of Lindsays. Zombie Crawl (Exicon) up the hill to the end line for 30 two-count LBCs then Crab Walk back down the hill for 10 two-count American Hammers. Continue the sequence offsetting reps by five until 10 and 30 are done.

Mosey around the field to the sidewalk between the football concession stand and press box. Pair (with one set of three) up with one guy grabbing the press box posts for Pole Smokers while the other guy runs to the field to complete five Wal-Mart Burpees (Exicon). Complete three rounds.

Jog across the park to the pull up bars, break into two groups, and line up on each side of the bars. First guy in line completes a Pull Up with and counts out a 10 second hold. Last guy in line completes a negative Dip to the first guy’s count. Remaining PAX hold plank at the edge of the area. Rotate through until all have completed three rounds.

Return the parking lot for Wave of Merkins (yes, Exicon). Circle up. One guy completes a Merkin and as he finishes, the next guy starts a Merkin, and so on like a wave around the circle. First guy completes two Merkins and the rest of the circle does the same. Continue until six Merkins completed by all. Stand up and do the same with Squats, also stopping after six. Finish with a few minutes of stretching and a COT.

Congratulations to our friend, and GridIron regular, Quest who was married on 12/20/2020.

  • A 2020 Christmas

A frosty gloom welcomed 8 jolly and festive iron men on this day after Christmas.  The PAX celebrated the Christmas season in a manner that was befitting for 2020.  Here is how it went down:

    • Mosey back to the parking lot for COT with YHC taking us out

Great work by the PAX today on a brutally cold day that with the wind made conditions feel like the North Pole.  Good to have Probation join the Gridiron PAX as there is no truth to the rumor he was so late for Dog Pile that perhaps he just decided to come Gridiron.  The travails of a LIFO.  Also, welcome back Pigskin.  The Gridiron PAX is excited that Pigskin will become a permanent fixture come this summer as he and the M will be matriculating up to RVA.

Prayers for Gypsy with his toe surgery this week.  It was solid but frigid fellowship for the PAX at Einstein’s post workout.  Grateful for these men and their friendships.

God is good all of the time…a Savior is born!

Great work by the PAX today as we mixed some cardio with core work.  Great to have Quest back in the fold with the PAX today as he prepares for nuptial bliss.  YHC wanted to make sure he remains solid and sculpted for the big day.  Pinto sported to the Magnum PI look today for charity.  Good work brother!

Solid fellowship followed at Einstein’s.  Prayers continue to the Biggs family as they look to remain healthy following COVID exposure.

God is good all of the time!
