  • If you come to Gridiron, all of your wildest dreams will come true

A dozen warriors came to Gridiron this morning for a Whitesnake beatdown. No theme, no games–just some hard work, listening too much to Lighthouse, Attila doing his best Napoleon Dynamite impression and lots of burpees.

Started with some warmups in the new pickle ball lot including SSH, Ukrainian Soldiers, DQ, Helicopters, Hammers, LBCs, Copperhead Squats, Arm Circles, Merkins and other stuff I don’t remember. Perhaps some sic num-chuk skills. Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.

Moseyed to the track (which Mr. Rogers already ran around a couple times pre workout) and did a triple check where the timer ran half a lap and the other two (spaced on opposite sides of the track) did Squats and then Hand Release Merkins.  Overheard White Deer asking Attila what he was going to do today.  Attila’s response of “Whatever I feel like I want to do, Gosh!” was rude.

Moseyed to the parking lot and did what some call a star and others call a wheel. Four spokes of 25 count WW2, 2 count flutters, Merkins, and heels to heaven and a hub of 5 burpees. Start with 5 burpees and come to the hub for 5 more after each exercise. Total burpee count 25.

Jog over to the covered bus loop for another triple check with new partners. Timer runs the triangle, partners to the poley thing (smokers) and the other does a pole sit with airpress.  Attila telling Salt Lick that “he has the worst reflexes of all time” resulted in Salt Lick responding with “Try and hit me Attila” and that ended the discussion.

Worked our way to the basketball court for some elevens of Bobby Hurleys and Burpees. “Good idea” said Tatar and then asked how many and I repeated “Elevens” and he changed his mind on the idea. Started with ten Bobby Hurleys and one burpee on the other side of the court. 55 total of each. Most of us shot 100% (55 for 55) with our imaginary ball but Piglet only went 54 for 55 (got too fancy with his moves) and Lighthouse and Seymore went 0 for 55 as I still don’t know what they were shooting at. Seymore did not care and instead bragged: Oh yeah? Who’s the only one here who knows secret Ninja moves from the government? Total burpee count now 80.

Moseyed to Pigskin’s Parkour area and when the 4 walkers arrived, we did 4 burpees (84 total) to Lighthouse’s request and Attila/Napoleon’s protest. After Attila was asked how the workout is going so far he responded with: “The worst day of my life, what do you think?” No Parkour today just a good place to wait for the six.

Went to the front of the school and added a burpee for fun (85 total) on the way for Lighthouse. Then did two rounds of people’s chair (Elaines and milkers) mixed with balls to the wall (toe taps and Australians). Lighthouse’s love for burpees resulted in a loss of focus and a bloody knee after some bad Australian form. Almost broke his coccyx. “Freakin’ Idiot!” shouted Attila.

Back to the parking lot with the runners doing 20 dips on the bleachers while we waited for the wounded walkers.

Circled up for some Mary of reverse crunches, flutters, dollys and rosalitas and then time for 3 more burpees (88 total). We did not do the burpee count until coffee and it gave me regrets for not finding a way to add 12 more during the workout. Would have been some additional sweet jumps.

Prayers for the new graduates, Fireman Ed, Roger Roger and Fudd’s sister Mary.

Glad Limey joined us from Charlotte during his visit to Richmond for a graduation. Special coffeteria guests included Chum, Gypsy and Fireman Ed. Fireman Ed just wrapped up a big stage of his treatment and is feeling good. When the next scan comes in favorable, he can move to periodic scans and hopefully remission. And perhaps superpowers (throwing a football over them mountains?).

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • The Pig Family Expands at F3

We welcomed another member of the Pig Family (Pigskin, Chicarron, and Piglet)…Chicarron’s son, SPAM. After a brief warm up we hit an Ab, Chest, Leg workout and took breaks with Abs.

50 yards of Ukrainian Soldiers, break with 20 WWIIs, 50 yards of Bear Crawls. Then 7’s on a hill with Git Ups and Merkins. 50 yards of Bernie Sanders. Break with 20 WWIs and 20 Heals to Heaven. 50 yards of Ukrainian Soldiers.

Prior to 4 Corners Prostitute Style we needed to demonstrate what a Burpee was…so we did 5. Then we began 4 corners of: 5 Burpees, 10 Carolina, 15 Merkins, 20 Heals to Heaven). Total of only 40 Burpees (despite complaints of 100).

Legs/Cardio was a Dora of 100 Lunges, 200 Squats and 300 Heal Raises. Then took another break with more Abs: 10 Irish Hammers (American Hammer but a sit up between twists), 20 WWIIs, 20 Side Crunches.

Ended with Gomer Leading us on 2 mins of Up Downs. Thank you for your service.

  • Abs, Arms, Cardio and Chest Day Until Exhaustion

7 men posted this AM at Grid Iron for a little Abs, Arms, Cardio and Chest Day.

After warm up we had a mosey and a stop for Chest with 10 Burpees. Then Arms with 10 pull ups, followed by 20 dips, then 8 pull ups and 16 dips, etc. (30 Pull ups and 100 Dips). Mosey to the big field where we started with 10 more Burpees, then 50 yards of Ukrainian Soldiers. Before our Abs we did another 10 Burpees, and then to Abs with 4 sets of 25 (WWIIs, Crunchy, Side Crunch each side). Followed by 50 yards of Bear Crawl and 50 yards of Squats. Had another break of 4 sets of 25 Abs (WWIs, Merican Hammers, Knee Ups, Heals to Heaven). Gave Abs a break and added 4 sets of 25 count Merkin variations (Stagger Arm each side, Chuck Norris, and Merkins). Another 50 yards of Ukranians. Ended with 10 more Burpees.

On the way back we repeated Arms “until exhaustion” as Jelly Roll said with the same Pull-Up and Dips (30 Pull ups and 100 Dips). Mosey to playground for a break of 100 Abs (50 2 count flutters, 25 Hello Dolly, and 25 LBCs). Gave Abs a break with a Ring of Fire of Merkin variations. Ended with 10 more Burpees (50 for the day) and some stretching.

  • Keeping the Peace for all Pickleballers

On the eve of Easter, 11 of our finest mature gentlemen converged on an Easter themed workout. We noticed two unmarked cars and a marked car gracing us with their presence. Was it for us? No it was for the following Pickleball tournament.

COP: More jumping than usual. Inivisible jump ropes, SSHs, HRMs, MCs, DQs, FMs. Mosey to field.

E1: Partner 1 broad jump burpees, other partner runs most of the way down the field and back. Switch until both reach the destination.

E2: Partner 1 bear crawls, Partner 2 bunny hops switch at 25 yards at 50 yards do lunges until the end.

E3: Wheelbarrows switch at 25 yards, run the last 50 yards.

E4: Dora with 100 merkins, 200 WWIIs, 300 jump squats. Mosey to back of school.

The main event. The Easter egg hunt while crabwalking. This took a lot less time that I anticipated. Tater came out as the winner with 9 eggs. Free coffee for him. Mosey to chin up bars.

10 chin ups 20 dips, 8 chin ups, 20 dips, 6 chin ups, 20 dips, 4 chin ups, 20 dips, 2 chin ups, 20 dips. Mosey to home base.

Triple check with wall sits, flutter kicks and run around most of the parking lot.

Ended with a few ab exercises and stretching.

Don’t forget the CSAUP in early May. See slack for details. Also, Whitesnake’s Pixies tribute band, Here comes your Band will be at the Canal Club tonight. Prayers for Fudd’s family, Roger Roger and me. I am doing pretty well though. Good job White Deer with your attempt to recruit a police officer to join F3, even while we were doing APDs. Thanks for letting me lead.

Fireman Ed – let’s see how bad the Jets mess up the draft this Thursday!

  • Really Roscoe?

Instead of attending RVA’s own Monument Ave 10k today, we did a run-heavy beatdown.

After Fudd’s dog, Roscoe, made a beeline for my shovel flag and proceeded to piss on it, we were ready to begin.

Warm up: Run around the parking lot (high knees, butt kickers, karaoke).

Circle up for COP: Disclaimer, SSHs, Arm Circles, Cherry Pickers, DQs, Mt Climbers, WWIIs, & Merkins. Recover. Enough of that: Let’s roll!

Line up on the saturated Gridiron.
25 MH on the 25 yard line, run back to the start.
Repeat and add 50 Shoulder Taps on the 50 yard line, run back.  Repeat, add 75 LBCs (we got nice and soggy here)…
finish with 100 SSHs. Roscoe had a ball running all over the place, when allowed. Besides his antics within 30 seconds of showing up, he was a perfect gentleman otherwise.

    Next up: Track Attack
Run the track twice.  If you get passed, do a Burpee.  This was gonna be fun, in my mind.  IRL, we just ran around the track twice.

    Eye of the Storm
Audible to a parking lot instead of another saturated field.  5 Jump Squats in the center between each corner exercise, which the Pax picked in random order (20 Merkins, 20 AHs, 20 Lunges, 20 Plank Jacks).  Just for funsies, we did it twice.

Triple Check in front of Short Pump MS
P1 runs loop.  P2 Balls to the Wall.  P3 WWIIs.

Mosey BTTF, but we stopped for 5 burpees OYO.  Mosey, stop, 5 more burpees.  Mosey, stop, 5 more burpees… I think we did about 40 burpees in total.  Some grumbles here.  I let Chum know that we ran out of time and got off easy.  I had a 100 burpee Dora planned.  There’s always next time.  And I still have the ghost flag.

Circle up for some Mary (FMs, Heels to Heaven, finish with 60 second elevated leg hold).

    Names.
    Numbers.
Announcements: Piglet has another little piglet joining the litter on Tuesday, 4/15/25, as his M. will be induced at 12pm. Prayers for a healthy M and baby piglet. Century Classic 2.0 May 2-3.  Don’t think about how Completely Stupid And Utterly Pointless it is – just sign up.
Prayer requests: prayers for GomerPyle’s upcoming (possibly?) knee surgery.  Prayers for Fudd’s wife’s cousin, Hannah, who at only 23 yo is facing serious health concerns.
Moleskin: If you’re breathing today, you have something to be grateful for and the ability to do something for someone else.  Make it happen.

    SYITG!

  • The Great 8

For those non-hockey fans, Alexander Ovechkin just tied Gretzky for the most goals ever. Sooooo we did a lot of things with 8s after a brief warmup.

Ovi-Ab-Beast on a 120 yard field: 8 sets of Abs, 6 times. WWIs, WWIIs, Heals to Heaven, Crunchy, Side Crunches, and American Hammers

4 Corners Prostitute Style: 8 Burpees, 16 Merkins, 24 Carolinas, 32 WWIIs. (For those at home, that’s 56 Burpees)

Lindsey of Step Ups and Squats (30-10, 20-20, 10-30)

Arms with 8 Pull ups and 16 Dips, followed by 7 Pull ups and 14 Dips, 6 and 12, etc.

    Lots of stretching…and coffee time

  • Fifty Two

I Q’d on my birthday. 10 Pax descended on the friendly confines of the land of pickleball but no pickleball for this crew.

COP: DQs, DMH, ACs, merkins, FMs. Mosey to main field.

E1: 4 corners cumulative with 13 HRMs, 26 heels to heaven (3 sets of these were kinda rough), 39 jump squats and 52 SSHs. Mosey about 50 feet.

E2: Doras with 52 burpees, 104 2 count flutter kicks and 208 LBCs. Mosey to benches

E3: 4 sets of 13 derkins with 13 2 count step ups. Mosey to burpee hill.

E5: After PAX tried to convince me that the hill was renamed LBC hill, I told them we had so far only done 26 burpees so we needed to do 26 more. We accomplished that OYO in 4 sets. Mosey to chin up bars.

E6: 3 sets of chin ups and tricep dips. First set 10 and 20, second set 9 and 18 and the third set 7 and 14. Mosey to playground.

E7: Triple check with shoulder taps, WWIIs, and lunges across parking lot and run back. For some reason this exercise had some grumbles. Finished with stretching.

Prayers for Pinto’s friend and his family, Fudd’s sister and family, Roger Roger and me. I am doing well overall (praise god) but prayers that I can manage a medication side effect. It was good to go to coffeeteria and we even had someone ask Chum and Jville for help to try to fix a large car dent with a suction cup. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for allowing me to lead.
