  • Hello FitBit; Farewell Daily Grind

Five of the faithful posted to #GridIron on a beautiful Saturday morning for an honest workout. Johnsonville planted a VSF, and took the Q. This is how it went down, more or less:

COP. Disclaimer. 25x SSH; 10x Merkins; 25x Vee Ups; 10x Single-leg Alabama Prom Dates; 25x Imperial Walkers; and 10x Hillbillies.

Mosey to picnic pavilion near parking area for Elevens consisting of Box Jumps, run the full length of the parking lot, Incline Merkins. Rinse and repeat in the style of Elevens.

Mosey to playground. COP. 35x LBCs and 10x Lt. Dan OYO.

Elevens consisting of Lat Pulls on playground equipment, run to picnic pavilion in woods behind playground, Decline Merkins. Rinse and repeat in the style of Elevens.

Mosey across the footbridge to the sand volleyball court. Plan in a Ring of Fire with each PAX bear crawling across volleyball court in succession.

Mosey to schoolhouse. Line up on People’s chair with each PAX running to grassy knoll and doing 5 burpees in succession.

Mosey to grassy knoll. 5 burpees OYO.

Mosey to picnic pavilion near schoolhouse. Chiabatta dips.

    COP. 35x Freddie Mercs.

    COT

    Moleskin:

This was a tough workout and included more running than usual for #GridIron. YHC needed the extra running to help him fight off the last of an ugly chest and head cold. Earthworm was a good sport about it.

Welcome FNG FitBit! We are glad that you came out, and we hope you decide to make F3 a part of the regular routine.

Welcome back Flip Phone. You have been in our prayers!

Sadly, the Daily Grind’s Sort Pump location is no more. It’s last day was Saturday, and we were able to enjoy one last Coffeeteria there before bidding it farewell. We are considering alternatives.

    Have a great week! Johnsonville

  • ALL PAX: 1 Month Weight Loss Challenge “March FATness : BURPEE Busters”

F3 RVA: YHC has been fighting a bad knee, which has not helped my usual daily calorie burn. YHC have joined the Weight Loss Challenge, Anyone from RVA Game to Step up!

    March FATness : “Burpee Busters”

(see what YHC did…. “March MADness : BRACKET Busters” … so clever)

WHO: Any and all F3 Nation PAX willing to commit to losing a individually selected, predetermined amount of weight through disciple and hard work.
WHAT: 1 Month Weight Loss Challenge! You vs You. You determine the weight loss (most PAX chose 10lbs which is a little less than a third of a pound per day). Hit the goal, or you owe 200 burpees
WHEN: March 1 – April 1 (32 days)…. 35 days if you want to start now!
WHERE: Honor system on weigh-in (start and finish). ON 4/2 Saturday, ***200 chest-to-ground penalty burpees straight *** are owed by all PAX not meeting the weight loss they themselves committed to lose. If you are in SOB / Area51, this will be done after the Stonehenge workout together. Other F3 Nation Brothers, coordinate amongst yourselves to meet together at your preferred location, should any penalty burpees be required, or do on your own. You vs You… don’t cheat… honor yourself!
WHY: April race season is around the corner! (Spartan Race OCR, Charlotte Racefest Half-Marathon, Battefrog OCR, Ultimate Challenge Mud Run… all in back-to-back-to-back-to-back weekends), lose the weight and don’t carry it around as an obstacle for these events. Have the beach body you want for the Summer. Does YHC really need to provide you with a list of reasons to lose weight (other than if you don’t need to lose any)? Stop.
HOW: Post more, eat a healthy diet, get liposuction, drink less beer, whatever… it’s up to you but try to do it in a safe and healthy way (#asif).
BONUS: Madame Tussaud (@MadameTussaudF3) is concurrently running a April Merkin Challenge where you can see how many merkins you can do in the month …10,000 merkins = 323 per day. OR choose the amount you would like to do.
Tracking is be done on a spreadsheet that was set up by MT (#accountabilitysheet)… check it out here, log it yourself, or one of us can log it for you. But declare your starting weight and target weight (or just amount of weight you want to lose if you prefer) by 3/1 for accountability. If you are in SOB/A51 then there is a channel on Slack we can add you to (contact Wingman @trentjones).

Questions? Contact either J.R.R. Tolkien (@JRRTolkienF3) or Madame Tussaud (@MadameTussaudF3) for details on either challenge. Hope you will participate and these challenges will help you kickstart your weight-loss, keep you accountable, and make you better over the next month.

    COT:

Unspoken prayer concerns acknowledged and closing prayer by Attila.

    Moleskin:

Johnsonville under weather all week – he was missed (and his pre-workout text sending regrets was appreciated). Also missed were Flip Phone and White Deer, for whom concern is expressed as they grieve and heal, respectively.

Strong sophomore posting by Lucky Charm – great work and a fine description of Hurling (fastest game on grass). We look forward to the results of his head-locking efforts this week. LC will let us know when he’s ready to Q and where to purchase hurleys for a Gaelic-themed beatdown.

Chum Bucket made the Merkins look ridiculously easy, DK executed graceful Bulgarian Split Squats, and Attila’s yawns somehow prevented a full-blown narcoleptic episode. Offshore double-dipped and set the unofficial record for earliest DD posting time (0727) – he claimed that he didn’t get enough Pole Smokers at DogPile but we think he made a GridIron posting promise to LC which he was duty-bound to honor. Where’s Wilson?

DK told the PAX to listen up – that EF Hutton was executing his first Q at No Toll this coming week. Regrettably, YHC will be in Texas and will have to miss (this is where Honey Do says “yeah right – EW doesn’t do weekdays”). Others – come out and support this first Q!

The path of life leads upward for the prudent to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead. – Proverbs 15:24

    Excelsior!

    Mosey to Picnic Table Pavilion

    Dips Tabata

10 step mosey to the Parking Lot

COT: Welcome to Lucky Charm – a Dubliner by birth, Offshore’s first FNG, and a fine addition to the PAX. The naming process was enhanced, as usual, by DK who after being uninspired by the PAX offerings of Joyce, Guinness, Ulysses, etc., recalled his youthful breakfast of choice and singularized same. There was immediate approval without dissent and, despite the FNG’s obvious fondness of the handle, Lucky Charm was christened into F3.

Flip Phone remains in Memphis and the PAX expressed concern as he grieves the loss of his mother. Attila too was missed and the PAX look forward to his return next week.

Johnsonville informed the group of the planning of the Launch of F3 in Virginia Beach/Norfolk area – see Johnsonville for more information and to enlist for Launch assistance. This is an exciting opportunity to deepen F3 roots in Virginia.

Takeout prayer of thanks and supplication.

    Moleskin:

Offshore said he heard that GridIron isn’t very ambulatory so YHC decided not to disappoint. Truly, the plan was to include some Pole Smokers on the Diamond (a/k/a by the former pitchers among the PAX as Pole to Poles) but Spring Training was delayed by the locked gate. But with a bevy of football fields at the GridIron it was easy enough to re-position to the WildCat GridIron, stretch the legs, and pay homage to Mario Addison of the Panthers who executed the finest play of the Super Bowl in the opinion of YHC – still amazed at #97 and his big motor. Lots of video clips out there – but YHC just a few weeks ago learned how to add comments to BBs and there is no chance he can successfully do a Video Post to this BB – perhaps one of the Technocrats of the PAX can find one and add hereto or include a link in any comments to this BB? (see eg. http://thebiglead.com/2016/02/07/mario-addison-jordan-norwood-don-beebe-super-bowl/)

DK and Lucky Charm departed the AO looking forward to some youth basketball; J’Ville, White Deer, Offshore, and YHC regrouped at the Daily Grind for some solid 2nd F that included some highly technical discussions about Operations Research, coding, mini-computing, and home brewing.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

  • 52 Cards, 2 Jokers, and No Option to Fold

Four of the faithful posted at GridIron on a chilly February morning. Johnsonville took the Q, and this is how it went down:

    warm-up: ssh x33, merkins x32, don quiote, x31, air squats x25

mosey in front of school’s front entranceway: Take turns flipping a standard deck of cards and perform the following exercises:
hearts(9): burpees OYO x the number shown
heart facecards(3): wall thrusts OYO x15
diamonds(9): merkins in cadence x the number shown
diamond facecards(3): balls to the wall OYO x15
clubs(9): vee ups x the number shown (mixed between in cadence and OYO
club facecards(3): American hammers in cadence x15
spades(9): squats in cadence x the number shown
    spade facecards(3): jump squats x15
aces (4): partner leg toss x25 then run the bus loop
jokers (2): bunny hop about 75 yards to fixed point, lunge back to start

    COT

Moleskin: YHC has not done a “deck of cards” workout before and decided to give it a try. It was MUCH harder workout than I thought it would be. My heart rate never slowed. We also went a few minutes over the alloted time (with the PAX’s approval) because no one wanted to walk away from several un-flipped cards.

Loose Goose was strongest at the burpees. YHC struggled at those after been injured trying to reach 3000 burpees in November.

During the COT, prayers went out to Flip Phone, who lost his mother several weeks ago. Flip Phone will remain in Memphis for the next few weeks getting things in order. Prayers also went out to Loose Goose, who is starting a new business.

    Work hard this week, Gentlemen!

  • GridIron with Ample Ciabattas

Six of the faithful posted at #GridIron on a cold Saturday morning, the ground being covered by icy remnants of the prior week’s snow storm, which had thawed into slush and refrozen several times over. In light of the solidly frozen ground, Johnsonville plated a VSF and took the Q. This is how it went down, more or less:

COP: SSH x25, LS Squats x15, Don Quiote x25, Mountain Climbers x25

    Mini-mosey into picnic pavilion:
    chiabattas (step ups)
chiabattas (alt. merkins / decline merkins)

Mini-mosey onto sidewalk beside near gridiron:
chiabattas (alt. jump squats / Lt. Dans)

Mosey to far corner of gridiron:
chiabattas (alt. snurpees / Turkish getups)

Mosey to bus lane in front of school:
chiabattas (alt. mountain climbers / standing mountain climbers)

    chiabattas (bunny hops)
chiabattas (American hammers / Freddie Mercs)

    Mosey back to bus lane:
merkin ladder (up to five with bear crawl / back down to 1 with crab walk)

    Mosey back to picnic pavilion:
    box jumps x10
    dips x30

    COT with flag in hand

    Moleskin:

Chum Bucket had on workout tights that came down just below his knees. As soon as he got out of his car at Gridiron, he self-identified those as being his “Capri pants.”

Earthworm complained mildly about the lack of partner let tosses (aka pole smokers), and promised to make it up next week.

Cheetah, being 14 years old, was nearly impossible to wake up for the workout and nearly caused the Q to be late.

The merkin ladder was tough, especially coming after rapid-fire ciabattas. Many were sprawled out after that concluded.

    Great job, men! Johnsonville

    Mosey back to Parking Lot.

COT: Prayer of thanks and request for continued watch care.

    Moleskin:

The clock ran out – more pole smokers were anticipated; nonetheless a solid, no-frills workout with six exercises.

Despite heavy legs, Attila took command at the end of the workout and converted the mosey to a sprint – YHC neither anticipated the hard charge nor did he have the legs to counter. Well done, Attila – a veritable blitzkrieg deserving of your new handle.

Some speculation of the challenges Johnsonville may have faced last night – his leaving work early to “set his campsite before the rainfall” was likely not successful. His return to the GridIron (with the anticipated stories of January camping horror) is welcome.

    Matthew 11:28-30

  • Where is TYA?

7 strong (no TYA) and 1 FNG posted to Gridiron on a relatively warm 44 degree morning and the rain held off.  Here is how it went:

Mosey to upper field for COP: 30 SSH, 12 Merkins, 25 Flutterkicks, 25 IPs, 20 Richard Kimballs

Mosey to bus lane for:  Curb Crawls.  1 up to 8 Merkins

Mosey to main field to bleachers for:  Chiabattas    Alternating – Muscle Ups & Box Jumps

    Grab a bench for: 10 Decline Merkins , 20 Dips.  Repeato x4

Mosey to front of School for Triple Check – Run , Plank, Wall Sits

Mosey to lower field for:  PLTs – 25 each partner, Repeato x4.  Finish with 10 slowcount merkins

Mosey back to front of school for:  Donkey Kick Burpees – 3 Donkey kicks then do a burpee. x10

Mosey back to flag for some Mary:  100 LBCs, 30 Alabama Prom Dates, 20 Mountain Climbers

Earthworm led us out in prayer.  Jville tried to rename all the PAX

    NM:

Good work today men.  YHC arrived early to check the field conditions, which although soggy were not too bad for some field work.  At 45MoM on Thursday TYA told YHC he would be in attendance for a Honeydo Q but alas he apparently fartsacked.  If this continues YHC may develop a complex.

Tclaps to Wilson for the double dip, while Chum Bucket tried a new option – the half dip as he arrived 20 min in.  Upon seeing Chum arrive there was some quick calculations by the PAX on how he could DD so quickly, alas he was a LIFO. Better to LIFO than fartsack!

The derkins/dips after the Chiabattas smoked the PAX, including YHC.  The PAX were challenged with the donkey burpees, those will have to make an appearance at Dogpile soon.

Good work by White Deer (renamed from Pre per JVille) on his 2nd post and by Exile on his first post.  Jville insisted on the renaming Groh to Atilla the Hun.  YHC will leave it up to the Gridiron regulars to enforce the name change or keep it to Groh.

Afterwards at Coffee YHC learned that White Deer has some great stories and that Earthworm does not know how to comment on a Backblast, even though he has authored many a BB.  When YHC left Wilson was providing a tutorial to Earthworm.  We’ll see if it worked. Coffee after Gridiron is always a great start to the weekend.

    Go Redskins!

  • The Debut of Prefontaine at #GridIron

Eight of the faithful and one FNG (Prefontaine) posted an a chilly, but not frigid, January morning, to work off some of that holiday excess. Johnsonville planted a VSF and took the Q. This is how it went down, more or less:

    25x SSH
    25x DonQuiote
    25x Imperial Walkers
    25x LBCs

    Mosey to playground
    25x Long Slow Squats
11s (lat pulls on playground equipment and merkins)

    Mosey to pavilion behind playground
    25x Dollies
    11s (dips and step ups)

Mosey back to bus lane and meet up with double dippers
    25x hillbillies
    Short mosey to pillars
11s (standing mountain climbers and pole smokers)

Mosey to garden area behind school
    50x LBCs led by HoneyDo
    11s (lunges and wall thrusts)

    Mosey back to VSF. COT

    MOLESKIN:

Five of the PAX joined after the 2nd round of elevens, arriving en masse from #DogPile.

YHC was very pleased to get Prefontaine out after a year or more of headlocks. Prefontaine recently had a knee replaced and suffered some complications from that. He is back in good health and particularly strong at core work and ground & pound.

This workout was fairly leg-centric, largely because YHC is still nursing a shoulder injury brought on by my failed attempt at hitting 3000 burpees in December. The elevens with lunges and wall thrusts were the most challenging part of the workout. Everyone pushed themselves very hard through that. Swirly was the top-finisher.

The PAX enjoyed good fellowship at the post-workout coffeeteria. The Daily Grind, our normal Saturday establishment, was closed due to the holidays. Fortunately, we were able to secure a large table at a nearby Starbucks.

    Happy New Years and FEBA!

  • Tight Shirt (sans designer jeans)

A warm morning at the GridIron welcomed the PAX — three regulars and two “Home for Christmas.” Here’s how it went:

Mosey from Parking Lot to Courtyard of Short Pump Middle School for welcome and disclaimer.

COP: x25 SSHs IC, x25 IWs IC, x25 Air Squats, x25 DQs IC, x25 APDs IC, Superman x3, x25 Side Plank Dips (RH High) IC, x25 Side Plank Dips (LH High), and x25 Seal Jacks

Mosey to end of Pillars: x25 Pole Smokers Heels to Heaven, Penmanship (ALL CAPS), x25 PSHHs, Penmanship (lower case alternating single legs), x25 PSHHs, x25 Dollies IC, and x25 PSHHs

Mosey to Tennis Courts for the Battery: side line to side line – assortment of Karaokes, lunges, hops, back runs, high skips, butt kicks, and high knees with some air squats mixed in.

Mosey back to end of Pillars: x25 PSHHs, x25 APDs, x25 PSHHs, and cross beam hangs

    Mosey to Courtyard: x25 PLTs

Mosey (slalom) to start of Pillars: x25 PSHH

    50 yard Lunge and Karaoke.

    Mosey back to Parking Lot.

COT:  Groh took out the group with his customary strong prayer expressing gratitude for the abundance of our blessings, especially the gift of Jesus Christ.

    Moleskin:

Glad to have Jordache at the AO this morning – the former Richmonder showed us some Greensboro strong (and horrified the older Pax with mental images of late 70s designer jeans).  Also glad to have WD40 back from Atlanta for his sophomore posting (hope for brother Grub’s posting was dashed by sprained ankle suffered on a Christmas afternoon run).

Speaking of injuries, this morning’s mental Weinke was scrapped when Johnsonville announced a shoulder malady.  Query: was it an injury or was J’Ville’s simply trying to decelerate his upper body gains (barely concealed by his shirt) 26 days of his Burpee challenge?

No problem, though, with the workout adjustment – as HoneyDo will attest, GridIroners are exceedingly fond of core work. So the same was substituted in the place of Burpees, dips, and Merkins.

On the final mosey YHC got his normal “jump” only to be quickly reeled in and passed by WD40 who was instructed by Groh to chase down the old man. Note to Groh – victory by proxy does not count.
