  • #GridIron — Plenty of Calories to Burn

Seven of the faithful posted at #GridIron during a comfortable late-autumn Saturday morning. Johnsonville planted a SF and took Q. This is how it went down, more or less:

    COP near SF
    25x ssh
    15x merkins
    elbow plank
    25x don quiote

    Mosey to SF (Earthworm sprint!)

    COT

    Moleskin —
Ty Webb’s parents live down in Powhatan, and he was vising from Charlotte. We were glad he decided to post with us.

Ty Webb and Jolly Rancher ran together on the triple checks, and they seemed to get a bit competitive. Jolly Rancher knocked out 12 burpees per minute at the grassy knoll, but struggled later the workout. YHC suggested that he try to pace himself a bit better.

Earthworm lagged during the indian run, but then blew everyone out during the 100m “mosey” back to the SF. Unlike Jolly Rancher, Earthworm does know how to pace.

Groh had made the long track back from Alabama the day before to make F3. We like to think he is ultra-dedicated. I supposed it could be that he can tolerate family for only so long.

After having completed the 5000 merkin challenge about 10 days early, Chum Bucket is looking like he can bench press about 300 lbs.

Honey Do was the sole double dipper and showed no signs of wear.

  • Delusions of Safe Spaces

34 degrees and sunny at the GridIron this morning where 3 of the PAX gathered for an hour to open a week of Thanksgiving.  With the parking lot rapidly filling for Metro Youth Football playoff games, the Pax ran over to the Pillars behind Shot Pump Middle School for our own kickoff.  Here goes:

Mosey back to Pillars for X25 PLTs

Regular Slalom run to start of Pillars, continue run to GridIron end zone (pause for National Anthem), and sprint back to parking lot.

COT: Acknowledgment of answered prayers and expression of prayer concerns, including travel safety blessings and US leadership culminating take out prayer by YHC centered on gratitude and thanksgiving.

Moleskin: Lots of MumbleChatter involving MicroAgressions – Aye, good work.  Missed the DoubleDippers – hopefully the use of the AO hinterlands doesn’t require special recon skills.  Groh demonstrating really fine form; J’ville played MicroAggressor in Chief and taunted from the front most of the morning (though he was crushed on the final sprint by YHC who timed his jump expertly to the conclusion of the National Anthem).

Coffeeteria at the Daily Grind – excellent fellowship.

1 Chronicles 16:34 — Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

  • #GridIron enjoys Slaughter Starter, Ciabatts and Merkin Ladder

Four of the faithful posted to #GridIron on a cool Saturday morning to take that #RedPill. Johnsonville took the Q, and this is how it went down:

    Mosey to grassy knoll

    COT

Moleskin: Great job with a difficult workout. T-Claps to Honey Do, who double-dipped having completed many merkins at #Dogpile. I believe he logged 500 in all.

  • Broken Burpees

A humid morning greeted the Pax with Splinter running over from Strikers Park to join three others of the Faithful who opted for conventional GridIron parking. Here’s what ensued:

Mosey to near end zone of upper GridIron for COP:

10 sets of: X10 Squats, X10 Mountain Climbers, X10 Merkins, and X10 Side Straddle Hops

20 yard Lunge Walk, 10 yard Bear Crawl, 20 yard Lunge Walk, 10 yard Bear Crawl, 20 yard Lunge Walk, 10 yard Bear Crawl, and 20 yard Lunge Walk to back of far end zone

10 sets of: X10 Squats (including some Gorilla Squats), X10 Mountain Climbers, X10 Merkins, and X10 Side Straddle Hops

20 yard Lunge Walk, 10 yard Lateral Gorilla Walk, 20 yard Lunge Walk, 10 yard Lateral Gorilla Walk, 20 yard Lunge Walk, 10 yard Bear Crawl, and 20 yard Lunge Walk to back of near end zone

4 sets of X10 Partner Leg Tosses – Obliques

60% run to near end zone

2 sets of X25 Partner Leg Tosses

2 sets of X10 Squats (regular and Gorilla), X10 Mountain Climbers, X10 Merkins, and X10 Seal Jacks

    Mosey to Parking Lot

COT:   YHC took out the Pax with a prayer of acknowledgment and praise.

Moleskin:   No coffeeteria this morning with 2 of the Pax facing early morning soccer games and YHC tasked to a forced march north.  Great to have Splinter with us this morning – hoping for more early morning soccer games at Strikers Park!  Perhaps his drenched F3 shirt will be a GridIron recruiting tool among the fresh coffee-sipping daddies at the soccer game?  Flip Phone put up a strong showing – he scoffs at PLTs.  We would have had a fifth Pax but Johnsonville could not awaken Cheetah who pregamed for his soccer game by sleeping blissfully in the back seat of his father’s car.

  • Ab Wheels and Burpees

Five of the faithful, and one FNG met at #notoll on a crisp autumn morning to get their gloom in before All Hallows’ Eve. Johnsonville planted a shovel flag, gave a quick disclaimer, and commenced to Q. This is how it went down, more or less:

    sherkins x12
    imperial walkers x25

    Os x10 (cw)
    Os x10 (ccw)
single leg Alabama prom dates x10 each leg

    COT

    Moleskin:
We appreciate having Toga visit #gridiron and enjoyed meeting FNG Click’nClack. Toga double dipped, but left #dogpile early to attend all of #gridiron. Chum Bucket double dipped, arriving at #gridiron during the triple play.

The elevens were challenging due to the mix of burpees and running. Toga was strongest at those, finishing in front of YHC. Click’nClack did very well for an FNG. Earthworm expressed slight irritation at the amount of running, but he pushed through it with strength.

The 8-9 year-olds were playing flag football under the lights at the upper field by about 7:30 AM. That was fun to watch, but we are not accustomed to sharing our AO.

Although it is a little early to finalize plans, there was talk at Coffeeteria about having a 2nd annual pre-Super Bowl AT hike. YHC plans to invest in YakTrax.

    Good job PAX!

  • Prelude to Game Day, Reunion, Soccer Games …

Another beautiful morning at the GridIron greeted five of the faithful and one FNG. Here’s how we kicked off a day full of activities:

Parking Lot COP with disclaimer and welcome:

    x20 SSH IC
    X20 Seal Jacks IC
    x20 Mountain Climbers IC
    x20 Alabama Prom Dates IC

    Mosey to the upper GridIron:

Four Corners Forties: Merkins and Squats
    x25 Partner Leg Tosses X4
    120 Yard Lunge Walk
x10 Burpees with Tuck Jumps OYO
    x20 APDs IC
    Four Corners: x25 PLT X5
    x20 Dead Bug IC

    Mosey to the Pillars:

    Peoples Chair
Slalom Run to end of Pillars
Forties/Lindseys: Carolina Dry Docks and Imperial Walkers

Mosey around school to upper GridIron to Parking Lot

    COT:

Announcements: Pumpkin Run next Saturday; shout out to Honey Do and Chum Bucket at the GoRuck today.
Prayer concerns – Mark and Brian; unspoken.
Groh take out prayer concluded the BOM huddle.

    Moleskin:

Great to have Lab Rat join us for his first posting – a strong showing for a guy who “took a year off.” Glad you decided to put back on the ChinStrap.

Also great to have one of the Charlotte RedWoods join us again – Sir Topham Hat helped launch F3 RVA back in September 2014; back in town for his 20th HS reunion – older but not so much to shed the Hate.

PLT were heavy this morning so lots of team work – YHC paired with Groh who had a strong kick even on his 225th PLT. DK and Lab Rat partnered up and made a strong team. The third pair, STH and J’Ville, set the pace today – good work. STH’s gadgetry indicated 1.5 miles of ambulation under YHC’s Q – shocking.

Groh, being from Alabama and sensitive to Brain Tumor’s renaming last year of the Upward Hip Thrusts, failed to convince the PAX that we should call that exercise the Louisville or Pitino Date Nights.

Coffeteria – the usual banter but, sadly, no show and tell (aka spousal gift giving instruction) by DK.

    John 1:1-5

  • An Inverse Dirty McDeuce at #GridIron

Three of the faithful came out to the #GridIron gloom. YHC (cheerfully) took to the Q, and this is how it went:

    ssh x 25, don quiote x 25, lbc x 25, imperial walkers x 20, hillbillies x 20

    Mosey to track.
Chiabatta — alternating single leg Alabama prom dates
    Dirty MacDeuce #1: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #2: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #3: 200m sprint

Chiabatta — leg circles alternating cw and ccw
    Dirty MacDeuce #4: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #5: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #6: 200m sprint

    Chiabatta — bear crawl, crawlbear
    Dirty MacDeuce #7: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #8: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #9: 200m sprint

    Chiabatta — merkins, flutter kicks
    Dirty MacDeuce #10: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #11: 200m sprint
    Dirty MacDeuce #12: 200m sprint

Chiabatta — dips / Carolina drydocks

    10x burpees
    10x scissor lunges

It is funny how 200m repeats can feel so easy at first — and so hard after 10 or 12 them. The PAX looked like it was going to mutiny for a while there, but pushed through. Extra T-claps to Groh, who posted after having worked past midnight all week (including Friday).

    Annoucements:
Humpday Happy Hour Splinters House Oct 21st
    GORUCK Oct 24th
    Great Pumpkin Run Oct 31st

  • You can always count on Groh!

4 faithful members of the RVA Pax and 1 Double Dipper assembled at Short Pump Middle school for a Saturday morning beat down that went something like this:

    THANG:
Mosey to back of End Zone at Grid Iron for COP: SSH x 25, Merkin x 15, Flutter Kicks x 25, Dead Cockroach OYO x 10, Hillbillies x 25

Run easy lap around track and up the hill to high ground for 10 minutes of Burpees (8 per minute)

2 easy laps around track and down to school for Quadruple Check: Peoples Chair, Plank, Run, Donkey Kicks/Wall Walkers (repeato for total of 3 cycles)

Mosey to bus lane for Zombie Walks to end.

Mosey to baseball bleachers for Tabattas:
    1) Imperial Squat Walkers
    2) Bear Crawl-a-rama on hill

Mosey back to shovel flag for COT

    Moleskin:
With so much Fall activity, YHC was convinced this would be the first F3 RVA workout with 1 person posting…and bet TYA as much…but, you can always count on Groh to show at The GridIron…Thanks to Chum & Ricky Bobby for joining us as well! We picked up a double dipping Honey Do during the Quadruple Check.

This was the first time Ricky Bobby had performed a Dead Cockroach…we might need to work on those.

10 Minutes of Burpees are always difficult and smoked us for a good few minutes afterwards.

The Quadruple Check took much longer than anticipated. YHC was hoping to squeeze in a Dora 1-2-3, but had to call an audible with the Bear Crawl-a-rama

This may have been the first time in weeks where The GridIron saw ZERO partner leg tosses.

Honey Do shared that he only came out to his first F3 workout in June. Damn, that dude has improved in a short time!

Thanks for letting YHC lead, fellas. I really enjoyed our time together.

  • Respect the AO by Expansion

53 degrees, nice breezes, and a much better than expected morning greeted 4 of the Faithful who were later joined by 2 of the strong DogPilers who swallowed the DoubleDip Pill. Here’s how it went:

    Parking Lot COP:

Discussion re Q coverage needs – DK confirming availability to Q next Saturday at GridIron; also need Q at GridIron for 10/17/15.  Signups on Google Sheets under Schedule of F3 website for F3 RVA.

    Prayer concerns – unspoken

Strong Groh-led prayer concluded the BOM huddle.

    Moleskin:

The AO expanded this morning with a venture to the High Ground to avoid any turf damage to the football and soccer fields.  Groh, DK, and J’ville – senstive and wise PAX?  Or mud-adverse?  In any event, the High Ground proved to be a solid site for the Beast.

A Burpee-free workout today (except for DK who self-imposed after he caused a workout disruption by kindly arranging for the gloveless Groh to become gloved).

It seems that Honey Do and Chum Bucket DoubleDipped because of their affection for PLTs – they were not disappointed (and pushed them out rapidly).

Coffeteria discussions covered lots of topics but one of the more interesting concerned the variety of dispositions brought by J’Ville to the workouts.  It was observed that J’ville was highly determined today, exhibiting excellent Merkins and CDDs form during the Beast.  There ensued discussion about the “angry J’Ville” (usually reserved for his Qs), the “mellow J’ville” and the intervening degrees of J’villeness.  #JekyllandHyde.

  • No Sunshine Patriots

Five of the Faithful and posted this morning at the GridIron with Donor Kebab planting the ShovelFlag.  We were joined at halftime by two committed Double-Dippers who, after a solid beat down at DogPile, wanted some more (or, in the case of one, thirsted for the post-workout coffee fellowship).  The PAX got a reprieve from the heavy rain forecast and instead enjoyed a refreshing temperature and a light breeze.  YHC took the Q on the fly so reserve is made for errors and omissions in that which follows.

    THANG:

Mosey to the front near side of Short Pump Middle School for COP:

    x20 IWs IC
    x20 DQs IC
    x20 SSHs IC
    x20 Seal Jacks IC

    x20 Predator Jacks IC

    x20 Reverse Mountain Climbers IC
    Superman Holds

Mosey to front of school for Triple Check – Wall Chairs, Planks, and Runs (rinse and repeat for 3 sets)

Stay on curb for x20 Decline Merkins, x20 Incline Merkins, and x20 Dips OYO (rinse and repeat for 2 sets)
Carolina Dry Docks OYO to failure

    Mosey to Pillars:

x25 PLT, All CAPS Protractor, and x25 PLT
    x20 APDs IC
    X20 Reverse Mountain Climbers IC
x25 PLT, All CAPS Protractor, and x25 PLT
    x20 Squats IC
    x20 Alternating Lunges IC
Squat Jumps with Pillar Pavilion Roof touch OYO to failure
    x3 Merkin ISOs
Planks to Pikes (rinse and repeat for 3 sets)
Pillar Cross Beam dead man hangs to failure (rinse and repeat for 2 sets)

Slaughter Finisher – x20 Burpees OYO

    Lunge Walk

    Mosey back to ShovelFlag

    COT:

    Announcements:

Discussion re Q coverage needs – no man is indispensable, every man is equipped to lead.

Donor Kebab reported on Bottom to Tap 3-Miler on October 17.  DK is the czar on this – see him for detail and commitments.

GoRuck on October 23 and 24 – Honey Do is the man to speak to about this event.

Rugged Maniac – talk to Wilson

Prayer concerns – blessings of wisdom and discernment requested for our children; unspoken concerns acknowledged.

YHC closed the BOM with prayer.

    Moleskin:

Solid second posting by London – well done (especially after the disappointing Wahoo showing last night)!  And bring your in town visitors next week as FNGs.  Is there a youth movement afoot at the GridIron?  Great EH by DK!

Johnsonville must have really liked last week’s Convergence because he was chomping at the bit for a GridIron kickoff (or a pre-game gut-check) a good 20 minutes before 0700.  Though not quite as early, Chum Bucket posted in plenty of time for more good morning pleasantries than generally permitted.

Conspiracy and Wilson double-dipped and were “exclusive” by partnering up on the PLTs.  That’s good because YHC has observed among the PAX some maneuvering to avoid pairing with Conspiracy given his proclivity for throwing down some “optional” obliques.

Coffeteria at Daily Grind – Iron sharpens Iron.  Also, the PAX include a couple “go to guys” with exquisite and sensitive spousal gift giving skills.  DK and London: thanks for the show and tell – there may be hope now for my M and the Ms of other PAX who suffer from gift-giving impairment syndrome.

    Stand Firm!
