Welcome back Garbage Plate, and good to see Gypsy and get a health update.  Prayers remain up for Fireman Ed, Fudd and Roger Roger.

Lunch this Wednesday at Firehouse Subs in Innsbrook.

God is good all of the time!

Likewise for Tater. He’s raising funds. https://m4krichmond.org/donate-to-a-grower/grattansmith

    Circle of Trust

Thanksgiving services were routine in what became the Commonwealth of Virginia as early as 1607; the first permanent settlement of Jamestown, Virginia, held a thanksgiving in 1610. On December 4, 1619, 38 English settlers celebrated a thanksgiving immediately upon landing at Berkeley Hundred, Charles City. (One of Tater’s ancestors landed in 1619 with the group.)

George Washington designated November 26, 1789, as “a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness”.

    Pigskin with the COT

When I used to work for a living, one of the things I did was work at a nuclear station. Nuclear stations are very complicated and there is always a concern about Human Performance. (I was the Business Manager so fortunately, I was not responsible for running or maintaining the plant.) One of the programs that was implemented was STAR, which stands for

    • Stop; Before you begin a task.
    • Think; About what the steps to your task is. Typically, you have a set of procedures you need to follow.
    • Act; Do the task.
    • Review; what you just did to make sure you did it right. You might want to think about what improvements you might do next time.

This same process can be used outside of work. For example, if you find yourself in a debate, Stop. Don’t feel like you have to respond immediately. Think. About what you’re going to say. Act. Say your piece. Review. Reflect upon how your words were received.

  • Gridiron – the Movie

11 PAX showed up to play parts in the greatest movie filming of all time, or at least the best one filled at Short Pump middle school, at 7 in the morning.

COP: DQs (with an abundance of mumble chatter), helicopters, HRMs, Freddie Mercuries (in honor of Tater Mercury who is growing a mustache for a good cause), LBCs and arm circles. Mosey to track.

4 corners on track 1/4 of the track, 10 merkins, 1/4 track, 20 merkins, 1/4 track 30 merkins and 1/4 track 40 merkins. 100 merkins – not shabby at all my friends. Mosey to nearby soccer field which looked like a swamp so audible to nearby asphalt.

Bear crawl as far as you can or to the stop sign. When you can bear crawl no further, lunge.

Lindseys: Lindsey 1: Carolina Dry docks and monkey humpers. Lindsey 2: plank jacks and squats, Lindsey 3: APDs and pickle pounders. Mosey to front of school.

Triple check with wall sits, dips and run around the road in front of the school. Mosey to bus loop.

Burpee for each two posts. ~15 burpees total, Burpee per two post on way back. Mosey to home base.

Ab mary with each PAX calling out an ab exercise for all PAX. Finished with a stretch.

Prayers for Fudd’s sister Mary (and Fudd/family too), Fireman Ed and Roger Roger (wife). A lot of this workout was being filmed with Attila and Mariner for PE class. I bet the film will be rousing and entertaining for all. And the Emmy goes to…..

Have a great rest of your weekend.

  • Grab my balls

On beautiful Saturday morning, twelve gentleman went to Gridiron, had some fun, and left without any new injuries. That is a successful morning.

We started with some warmups in the new fancy parking lot then moseyed to the covered bus loop for some smokers and a timer of burpees (5). Ended up with way too many smokers.

Hit the basketball court for a couple rounds of four corners. First round was 25 HRM, Jump Squats, Hammers and Plank Jacks. Second round of 25 Merkins, WWIIs, Mountain Climbers and finished with 53 SSH.

All of this was just to get us near the Tennis Courts. After we moseyed around the courts a bit, I took out my balls and we played Dodgeball.

Basic dodgeball rules except when you are hit or your ball is caught, you have to run to the other end and do 3 burpees before returning. If a team ends up with no one in the court, that team loses. We eventually changed it to a 5 burpee penalty and at the end, moved to if you are out you are out. Each team got one win. Highlights included Attila with a one handed catch of a ball that previously hit a teammate and Piglet with a winning catch of the same. Those young kids get all the glory. Everyone helped grab my balls at the end and then we moseyed back to the start for some stretching & burpees.

Prayers for Fireman Ed and Fudd’s sister Mary. Coffeteria at Starbucks afterwards was fun as always.

My week of Q’s has ended. Someone else fill up that Q sheet for next week!

Great work from the PAX this morning.  Lots of mumble-chatter at the start, no so much at the end.  As opposed to grass clippings, the PAX collected rubber pellets on clothes, in hair and all around today.  No workout with White Deer is complete without a “carpet matching the drapes” comment.  Got that early.  Wondering if he is just wishing his did?

Whitesnake’s band is playing down at the satellite Kindred Spirits by the Diamond tonight.  Be there, aloha.

Prayers for Fireman Ed and Fudd.

God is good all of the time!

  • Musical Circle of Prayer

10 mature warriors showed up in Northern Short Pump and dodged pickleballers for a Fireman Ed beatdown. Mosey to the football field that is the inspiration for Gridiron.

COP: DMH, DQ, merkins, HRMs, FMs, Phelps the arms out to get them ready.

Line up at goal line for a Triple Check.

Pacer bear crawls to 20 and crawl bears back. Others do Carolina Dry docks and APDs. Three sets of bear crawls and crawl bears are tough especially when you are next to energetic Tater. Line up at 50.

Pacer lunges to 25 and bernies back. Others do squats and jump squats. Mosey to little hill next to parking lot.

Burpee time with first set 30 seconds of burpees with 30 seconds rest, then 35 and 25, 40 and 20, 45 and 15, 50 and 10, and finally 55 and 5. This one was a crowd pleaser. Mosey to the Gator bars.

First set 10 chinups/jerkins and 20 dips, then 7 chin ups/jerkins and 30 dips, then 5 chin ups and 40 dips. Mosey to Marcy’s playground.

Doras with 100 derkins, 200 2 count flutter kicks and 300 LBCs. Other partner runs a half loop around the parking lot.

Finished with APDs, American hammers, diamond merkins and stretching exercises (I am allowed to lead those since I am an AARP member).

Firehouse subs on Tuesday. Pray for Fudd’s sister, Fireman Ed’s father and law, Fireman Ed’s medical test on 10/14 and those recovering from Helene’s aftermath. While Attila graciously took us out in prayer, a parent of one of the young football players decided to come in with 90 decibel modern rap music. Hence the title of the backblast.

    Let’s go Mets!
